Chatbot upgrades, hot and fresh. The latest versions of OpenAI’s multimodal GPT AI models are now rolling out to ChatGPT. OpenAI announced on Wednesday that GPT-4.1 will be available across all paid ChatGPT account tiers and can now be accessed by Plus, Pro, or Team users under the model picker dropdown menu. Free users are excluded from the rollout, but OpenAI says that Enterprise and Edu users will get access “in the coming weeks.” GPT-4o mini, the more affordable and efficiency-focused model that OpenAI launched last year, is also being replaced with GPT-4.1 mini as the default option in ChatGPT for all users, including free accounts. Users on paid accounts will also see GPT-4o mini replaced by GPT-4.1 mini in the model picker options.  Both GPT-4.1 and GPT‑4.1 mini are optimized for coding tasks and instruction following, and outperform GPT‑4o and GPT‑4o mini “across the board,” according to OpenAI. Both of the new models support a one million context token window — the amount of text, images, or videos in a prompt that an AI model can process — that greatly surpasses GPT-4o’s 128,000-token limit. OpenAI says that speed improvements also make GPT-4.1 more appealing for everyday coding tasks compared to the powerful OpenAI o3 & o4-mini reasoning models it introduced in April. GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini were made available to developers last month, alongside the GPT-4.1 nano model, which OpenAI described as its “smallest, fastest, and cheapest” offering to date. We know that Grand Theft Auto VI will have a massive impact on the video game industry when it launches, so it's no surprise that its delay into next year is also having a huge impact on the industry in 2025. Analytics firm Ampere Analysis has lowered its revenue and sales forecast for the video game console market, specifically for PlayStation and Xbox, The Game Business reports. Ampere's Piers Harding-Rolls expects PlayStation and Xbox to sell 700,000 fewer consoles than they would have if GTA VI were still being released this year. Harding-Rolls and Ampere also estimate that 21 million fewer game sales will be made, and that between hardware and software revenue, the console market is missing out on approximately billion in revenue. Of course, the knock-on effect of all this is that expectations for 2026 are that much higher, but we're not yet halfway through 2025, and the year already looks drastically different from the one the video game industry thought it would have in January 2025. Without GTA VI in the holiday lineup, the one platform that will benefit, Harding-Rolls suggests, will be Nintendo. Harding-Rolls and Ampere Analysis also aren't alone in this suggestion, as DFC Intelligence reports that in its estimates, it sees Nintendo benefiting from Grand Theft Auto VI's delay, while PlayStation and Xbox have a much more muted year. Overall, Ampere now estimates that the industry will only grow by 0.9%, with a bigger 2.2% jump coming in 2026. Shortly after the news of Grand Theft Auto VI being delayed was announced, it was reported that the game had no chance of actually releasing in 2025. Unfortunate as that might be for fans hoping to play it this year, the delay doesn't seem to have really impacted excitement, as eager fans continue to salivate over the small bits of the game we have seen. After Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link was canceled earlier this week, fans joked that within it was the most information we’ve gotten on the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 since it was revealed in an announcement trailer three years ago. Square Enix said it is “hard at work” on Kingdom Hearts 4, which will continue Sora, Donald, and Goofy’s adventures in a new story arc.The same day that it announced Missing Link’s cancellation, Square Enix casually dropped several new screenshots of Kingdom Hearts 4, causing the fandom to leap for joy. There’s so much to break down in these images that there’s enough to do a deep diveon all of them. There are more new Heartless in the back rocking fists the shape of shields. The Form Change ability for the keyblade we saw from the traileris being used to deal with the new group of Heartless instead of using it to travel as previously shown.According to Tetsuya Nomura, a new Build mechanic in the command menuwill allow Sora to scrap and rebuild things. There’s also a Japanese-language version of this exact moment posted on the Japanese Kingdom Hearts social media account that shows it from another angle. In this image, we can see a third creature with long legs, a bell-shaped waist, and a long neck with a spike protruding from it. Also, phones make a return to the series since Kingdom Hearts 3’s introduction of Gummiphones, but this time it’s a rotary phone. Will whippersnappers like Sora even know what it is? We get to play as Mickey in what would appear to be a minigame. It’s been theorized this library could be within Scala ad Caelum, since Mickey was previously tasked to look into the Foretellers from Cross Union last we saw him. The next image showcases what would appear to be a Darkside Heartless from the original trailer, albeit with a new design that includes wings and an even larger presence. But there are two forms of light rushing toward it. Could it be our hero joined alongside another? Yozora perhaps? Only time will tell.The next photo shows Sora standing in the street in the dark, with sparkles surrounding him on the ground. Some believe the sparkles to be rain, but it could also be broken glass from the surrounding cars following a battle. In the distance is a bright light, which suggests things haven’t settled down in the streets. The last image looks to be from this same scene, but from the perspective of Sora, as the light in the distance illuminates his face.Although there’s no release date or news on a new trailer, Square Enix promises it’s hard at work developing Kingdom Hearts 4. Resident Evil 9 release date narrowed down by Capcom and it’s not good news GameCentral Published May 15, 2025 1:13pm Updated May 15, 2025 1:41pm Evil is stirringThe chances of Resident Evil 9 being released next year have just shrunk dramatically, unless Capcom feels like putting it up against GTA 6. The summer preview season is about to start soon, with Summer Game Fest due on June 6and Xbox’s showcase a few days later on June 8. Although so far there’s no indication of PlayStation having an event, even though they usually have theirs in late May. Capcom sometimes has one in the summer as well, although they have also used Summer Game Fest to make big announcements, such as for Monster Hunter Wilds. So plenty of fans are hoping we might finally get a proper reveal of Resident Evil 9 at that time. The game has already been officially announced, last July, but nothing has ever been shown or said about it. It’s therefore reasonable to hope for a full reveal in the near future, but Capcom’s own financial targets make it very unlikely it’ll be out until after March 2026. Although Capcom made no new mention of Resident Evil 9, their latest results – which showed the company to be in rude financial health – included sales predictions of only 8 million for new games in their current financial year, which ends on March 31. That’s less than at any time in the last five years, which makes sense because at the moment they don’t have anything new scheduled for that period, beyond some Switch 2 ports. Unless they’re expecting Resident Evil 9 to be a flop, that makes it seemingly impossible that they’re preparing for a launch before April. That’s particularly significant because you’d have to go all the way back to Resident Evil 6 to find any mainline entry that launched later in the year than May. Even that was an anomaly, with the majority of new Resident Evil games coming out between January and March. There’s nothing stopping Capcom from changing the way they do things, except their kind of is, because GTA 6 is out on May 26 and they’re not going to be stupid enough to release it anytime around then. More Trending GTA 6 is almost certainly going to be dominating sales and mindshare for the rest of 2026, so while it’s not impossible that Capcom is planning an autumn release for Resident Evil 9 the more likely bet would be that it’s not out until 2027 or later. What do we know about Resident Evil 9? Officially, Capcom has said nothing about the next mainline entry in the series but there have been persistent rumours that it is an open world title. With Resident Evil Village’s DLC tying up the plot threads from the last two games more quickly than expected, there’s also suggestions that Resident Evil 9 will go back to a third person view, rather than first person. The only thing Capcom has said is that Resident Evil 9 ‘feels substantial’ but while there’s a good chance we’ll find out more relatively soon it may be a lot longer until anyone gets to actually play it. New papal names often drip with meaning. Pope Francis, in 2013, named himself after Saint Francis of Assisi, signifying his dedication to poverty, humility, and peace. Pope Paul VI, in 1963, modeled himself after Paul the Apostle, becoming the first pope to make apostolic journeys to other continents. When Robert Francis Prevost announced on Saturday he would take the name Leo XIV, he gave an unexpected reason for his choice: the rise of AI. The most recent Pope Leo, Prevost explained, served during the Industrial Revolution at the end of the 19th century, and railed against the new machine-driven economic systems turning workers into mere commodities. Now, with AI ushering in a “new industrial revolution,” the “defense of human dignity, justice and labor” is required, he said. With his name choice and speech, Leo XIV firmly marks AI as a defining challenge facing our world today. But also embedded in the name is a potential path forward. Leo XIII, during his papacy, laid out a vision for protecting workers against tech-induced consolidation, including minimum wage laws and trade unions. His ideas soon gained influence and were implemented in government policies around the world. While it's still unclear what specific guidance Leo XIV may issue on artificial intelligence, history suggests the implications of his crusade could be profound. If he mobilizes the world's one billion Catholics against AI's alienating potential as decisively as his namesake confronted industrial exploitation, Silicon Valley may soon face an unexpected and formidable spiritual counterweight.“We have a tradition that views work from a theological perspective. It’s not simply burdensome; it’s where we develop ourselves,” says Joseph Capizzi, dean of theology and religious studies for The Catholic University of America. “Pope Leo XIV is going to be drawing on our tradition to try to make a case for finding work that dignifies human beings—even while making space for AI to do things that human beings will no longer be doing.” Rerum NovarumAt the heart of Leo XIV’s new name choice is Leo XIII’s formal letter Rerum Novarum, which he wrote in 1891. At the time, the Industrial Revolution was upending society. Mechanized production and factory systems generated unprecedented wealth and productivity, but led to the displacement of many agrarian jobs and people to move into overcrowded, unsanitary urban centers in search of work. The jobs there were grueling, unsafe, and paid terribly. The wealth gap widened dramatically, leading to massive social unrest and the rise of communist ideology. In the midst of these many challenges, Leo penned Rerum Novarum, an encyclical that marked the first major example of a pope commenting on social justice. In it, Leo wrote that “a small number of very rich men” had laid “upon the teeming masses of the laboring poor a yoke little better than that of slavery itself.” There now existed as “the gulf between vast wealth and sheer poverty,” he wrote. To combat this trend, Leo explored potential solutions. First, he rejected communism, arguing that workers had a right to the fruits of their own labors. But he also stressed the need for a living wage, time for workers for family and church, and the right to form Christian trade unions. “He was really championing the rights of workers,” says Dr. Richard Finn, director of the Las Casas Institute at Blackfriars, Oxford. One of the first major advocates of minimum wage laws in the U.S. was the priest and economist John A. Ryan, who cited Pope Leo as a significant influence. Many ideas in his text “A Living Wage and Distributive Justice” were later incorporated into the New Deal, when Ryan was an influential supporter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the 1960s, the Catholic Church eventually came out in support of César Chávez and the United Farmworkers, which Chávez told TIME in 1966 was the “single most important thing that has helped us.” In Australia, Rerum Novarum influenced political leaders who forged a basic wage in that country. And in Mexico, the Rerum Novarum spurred the creation of many Catholic labor unions and mutual aid societies. “It really shaped Catholic activism, with organizations working to ensure that Mexico was neither an unfettered capitalist country nor a Marxist state-owned state,” says Julia Young, a professor at the Catholic University of America. “It was successful in creating Catholic associations that were very politically vocal.” The Church and AIMore than a century after the industrial revolution, a similarly impactful technological revolution is unfolding, amidst many similar economic circumstances. “In terms of similarities between now and then, there was rural to urban immigration changing the workplace, widespread exploitation of workers, and seemingly growing poverty in urban areas,” Young says. “And so you had the church trying to respond to that and saying, ‘We have a different response than Marx or the robber barons.” While Leo XIV hasn’t yet explicitly called for any of the same measures as Leo XIII, it is clear that he believes the rise of AI necessitates some sort of counterweight. And his citing of Rerum Novarum also perhaps reveals a hunger to provoke widespread social change and offer a third path in a two-power arms race. “In our own day, the Church offers to everyone the treasury of her social teaching in response to another industrial revolution,” he said on Saturday. Across the world, people are expressing intense anxiety about AI causing job displacement.Like in the industrial revolution, the initial spoils of AI are flowing to a few ultra-powerful companies. And AI companies have also reinforced some of the worst aspects of predatory global capitalism systems: OpenAI, for instance, outsourced some of its most grueling AI training to Kenyan laborers earning less than an hour. Leo’s interest in this area continues that of Pope Francis, who became increasingly vocal about the threats to humanity posed by AI in his later years. Last summer at the G7 Summit, he called for an international treaty to regulate AI, arguing that it could exacerbate social tensions, reinforce dominant cultures, and undermine education. “We would condemn humanity to a future without hope if we took away people’s ability to make decisions about themselves and their lives, by dooming them to depend on the choices of machines,” he said. Some leaders have signaled the importance of prioritizing workers’ rights during the AI revolution, like Senator Josh Hawley. But until a coherent political movement emerges, moral leadership on human dignity in the face of AI may flow from the church, and Pope Leo’s outspoken leadership. “He’s saying AI is going to change the workplace—but it's got to change it in a way that fits with the dignity of employees,” says Dr. Finn.  #pope #leos #name #carries #warning

Roblox announced on Thursday that creators can now sell physical merchandise directly within their experiences and games on the platform with the launch of new Commerce APIs. The offering provides creators with a new way to generate revenue beyond the purchases of virtual goods or one-time fees to access specific experiences. The company first began testing the ability to buy physical merchandise within a few branded experiences in mid-2024. Last September, Roblox announced that creators would soon be able to sell physical items in experiences thanks to a partnership with Shopify. Now, Roblox is making that integration available to all eligible creators and brands after completing a closed beta test of its Commerce APIs. The ability to purchase physical products will be available in all-ages experiences for U.S. users ages 13 and up. Roblox plans to add more partners and expand the feature to additional markets in the future. For brands, the Commerce APIs offer a new way to reach customers. News by Connor Makar Staff Writer Published on May 15, 2025 Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios has announced the Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition, which will contain all the DLC characters, new movie skins, "and more". This newly packaged version of the gory fighter is available now, and offers a chance for folks to hop in with all the content. But this news has been met with an intense negative reaction, and stands out as especially dire given the recent Warner Bros quarterly financial report. This definitive edition, which will more than likely be the final version of the game, comes only two years after its release back in 2023. Definitive does literally mean the end of something, after all. The game has sold, as far as we know, at least 5 million copies and remains a high ranker on monthly downloads on consoles, a fact recently highlighted by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon. While Mortal Kombat 1's 5 million sales figure sounds wonderful, Mortal Kombat X sold more than 12 million copies in its life, while Mortal Kombat 11 - the best seeling MK ever - broke the 15 million sales milestone. As such, Mortal Kombat 1's sales performance seems significantly smaller than past releases would lead you to expect. In the Warner Bros Q1 2025 financial report, the company highlighted a 48% decrease in revenue from its gaming department compared to last year. This was attributed to last year's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and last year's higher carry-over from Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1. Why this is particularly frustrating for a portion of fans is that this definitive edition marks an end to a short life for Mortal Kombat 1. In September of last year, Ed Boon went on Twitter to state that the team had not begun work on NetherRealm's next game, and "NetherRealm is still fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come." To give Mr Boon a break, if Warner Bros wants NetherRealm to move onto a new game, that's not exactly his call. I'm sure he and the team would be cool working on Mortal Kombat 1 for years if they could. But given this statement, you've got to wonder how far we are from NetherRealm's next game if it's had only eight months to work on it. But it's a bummer for Mortal Kombat fans! It feels as though a game that's performing pretty well compared to other fighting gamesis potentially getting the DLC rug pulled from under it. The competitive scene will now be left with a final version, kinda hampering its potential to grow, and it'll fade out from people's minds as they wait for Mortal Kombat 2 or Injustice 3, or what have you.
