During the ongoing Game Developers Conference 2024, Unity Technologies shared a comprehensive presentation discussing the latest developments in the Unity engine and offering a closer look at Unity 6, an upcoming LTS version of the engine.
First announced at Unite 2023, Unity 6 is set to introduce performance enhancements, accelerated multiplayer game creation, early access WebGPU support, and deeper XR device support. How could AR devices help people cook? Software engineer Stijn Spanhove shared a cool experiment with a multimodal LLM in WebAR. The demo shows AI identifying ingredients, setting up bounding boxes, and preparing them for AR. The app then also generates recipes and corresponding images.

Controlling digital particles by blowing into a sensor
Steven Mark Kübler shared a bunch of impressive demos of a setup that allows controlling digital particles in real-time by employing an Arduino-based controller alongside Derivative's TouchDesigner. The setup interprets information from various sensors and uses that data to dynamically adjust the gravitational acceleration within the scene.
Oh, gosh, I'm such a nerd. What I meant to say is that you can blow air into a sensor or move your hands, and the setup will do the rest of the magic.
