Just like Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong is getting a minor makeover as Nintendo moves into the next generation. And like the elder DK, Diddy will look a bit more like his The Super Mario Bros. Movie counterpart, with the addition of… teeth. A poster on the Famiboards forums noticed this week that the Nintendo Switch news channel showed off new artwork for Diddy Kong, and while the differences may be small in the grand scheme, they make the old, Rare-era Diddy look weird by comparison. Diddy Kong’s new look now includes a full mouth of teeth, the apparent removal of the Nintendo “racetrack” logo from his signature cap, and more realistic looking toes. Diddy’s pot belly has also been raised a bit, so it’s clearer where his tummy ends and his fur begins. Yes, he had a full set of pearly whites in Nintendo and Illumination’s animated film, but the cinematic version of Diddy appeared slightly more muscular, had eyes that were set apart, and sported a basketball-style jersey, as opposed to a tummy-accentuating crop top. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Diddy with teeth, though. While many of his video game appearances render him toothless, Diddy Kong’s second amiibo, from the Super Mario collection, shows the younger DK with chompers — something the Diddy amiibo released as part of the Super Smash Bros. collection didn’t. All of this is to say that Diddy Kong has teeth now, and for the foreseeable future, no longer has to gum all of his food. The XR Interaction Toolkit (XRI) is a high-level, component-based interaction system for creating VR and AR experiences. It provides a common framework for interactions and streamlines cross-platform creation. This update adds three key features: eye gaze and hand tracking for more natural interactions, audiovisual affordances to bring interactions to life, and an improved device simulator to test in-Editor. XR Hands is a new XR subsystem which adds APIs to enable hand tracking in Unity. It includes built-in support at release for OpenXR, with support for Meta platforms soon to follow. In addition, external hardware providers can pipe in hand-tracking data from their existing XR SDK by following the provided API documentation.This release of XRI includes the Hands Interaction Demo, a sample package showcasing a hand interaction setup where you can switch between hands and controllers without changing anything in your scene on-device. This system is built to work with any combination of interactor and interactable in both new and existing projects.The new XR General Grab Transformer reduces the complexity of the hierarchy and allows one general-purpose transformer to support both single and two-handed interactions on an interactable, rather than multiple grab transformers. It also enables two-handed scaling, letting you scale objects up and down by moving your hands apart or together, similar to zooming in and out on a mobile phone.We’ve also added an Interaction Group component. This behavior allows a developer to group interactors together and sort them by priority, which allows only a single interactor per group to interact at a given time. For example, when a Poke, Direct, and Ray Interactor are grouped together, poking a button will temporarily block the other interactors from interacting with the scene. This can keep you from accidentally grabbing something nearby when you’re working in the distance, and prevents rays from shooting into the scene while you’re grabbing or poking an object up close.Testing XR apps on a headset is important, but testing in-Editor helps reduce iteration time. In this release, the XR Device Simulator received a major usability update with a new onscreen UI widget that makes it easier to see what inputs drive the simulator, and which ones are currently active.New simulation modes have also been added so you can toggle between commonly used control modes. At startup, the device simulator activates the new first-person shooter (FPS) mode, which manipulates the headset and controllers as if the whole player was turning their torso. You can then cycle through the other modes to manipulate individual devices: the headset, the left controller, and the right controller. Once in a while, you might look up and marvel at magnificent views of our moon, its surface dramatically lit by our sun’s light. But have you ever paused to wonder what other moons might look like from the surfaces of other planets in our solar system? NASA’s Perseverance rover, which has been exploring Mars since arriving there in dramatic fashion in 2021, has just shared an exquisite image of Deimos, one of the red planet’s two moons.  Recommended Videos “Wishing upon a … moon?” NASA’s Perseverance team, based in California, wrote in a post on the rover’s X account on Thursday, adding: “That bright ‘star’ is actually Mars’ moon Deimos.” Perseverance captured the image in March “in the hours before dawn” via a long-exposure using its left Navcam. The picture also includes two stars — Regulus and Algieba — from the constellation Leo, which NASA has helpfully pointed out: NASA With a diameter of 7.7 miles (12.4 kilometers), Deimos, which scientists believe is likely to be a captured asteroid, is much smaller than Earth’s moon, which has a diameter of 2,159 miles (3,474 kilometers).  And while Deimos orbits Mars at a distance of 14,577 miles (23,460 kilometers), Earth’s next door neighbor orbits at a far greater distance of about 238,855 miles (384,400 kilometers). Also, our moon has a spherical shape, whereas Deimos has an irregular form that NASA has rather unflatteringly described as “potato-shaped.” The rover’s image offers a refreshing departure from its usual focus on the martian terrain where it’s searching for signs of ancient microbial life, allowing us to appreciate for a moment the broader cosmic context of Perseverance’s mission.  In many ways, the striking photo is more than just a technical achievement as it also offers a moment of reflection during the rover’s epic mission to seek knowledge beyond our home planet.

Today, Apple announced that veteran actor Michael J. Fox will appear in a guest role in Season 3 of Apple TV+’s acclaimed comedy series Shrinking. A poignant guest for a poignant show The news marks Fox’s first on-camera performance since his “second retirement” in 2020, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease, a condition he was diagnosed with in 1991 while filming Doc Hollywood. While there are no details on Fox’s character as of yet, his casting is particularly fitting, given that the show explores Parkinson’s disease through Harrison Ford’s character, Dr. Paul Rhoades. Fox’s involvement in Shrinking also reunites him with series co-creator Bill Lawrence, with whom he previously collaborated on the hit sitcom Spin City between 1996 and 2001. In fact, Lawrence has cited Fox as an inspiration for portraying the condition in an “inspiring rather than tragic” light. Fox’s return to acting comes after his Emmy-winning 2023 documentary, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, which was also released on Apple TV+. The documentary chronicled his career and journey with Parkinson’s disease. Season 3 of Shrinking will also feature other new guest stars , including Jeff Daniels, who will play Jimmy’s father, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. The series continues to follow therapist Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) as he navigates personal and professional challenges, with a cast that includes Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Luke Tennie, and Michael Urie. There is no word yet on when fans can expect the series’ return, but Apple has already promised “big feelings” up ahead. Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, and Silo. Susan Clark, whose singular vision for Radnor has reshaped the landscape of contemporary design curation, stands at the threshold of the gallery’s most ambitious chapter yet – Evolution in Form – a sun-drenched penthouse perched 70 floors above Manhattan within the soaring Sutton Tower. Her influence on how we experience design in residential contexts has been transformative, creating dialogue between object and space that transcends traditional gallery paradigms. The transition from previous locations to this light-filled, 5,000-square-foot penthouse marks more than a change of address. It represents a conceptual shift in Clark’s approach to presenting contemporary design. She has deliberately embraced a cleaner, more minimalist aesthetic that responds to the architectural vocabulary of Thomas Juul-Hansen’s residential tower – now the tallest on Manhattan’s East Side at 850 feet. “I’m delighted to open our newest location at Sutton Tower with this new collection of works,” states Susan Clark. “In many ways, Evolution in Form reflects not only our exploration of new creative horizons with our designers, but also our desire to create an evolving dialogue between design and architecture. The spaces we show in give us specific problems to solve, and specific potential to fulfill. It’s a more meaningful exercise for designers, and a more relevant way to show designs. At Sutton Tower, the collection’s exploration of soft, textured materiality and authentic, personal design language comes into a new focus.” The light spills across the unvarnished surface of Toshio Tokunaga’s newest dining table, catching in the shallow ripples of hand-planed Japanese Zelkova wood. This 350-year-old timber, touched only by traditional Kanna techniques rather than modern machinery, holds centuries of growth within its grain. The exhibition’s centerpiece, Sebastian Cox’s Sendal collection, stands as a powerful testament to the potential of regenerative design practices. Cox, whose work exclusively uses wild-sourced British wood and natural finishes, has created pieces that hover between substantiality and lightness. The collection’s armoire, credenza, and console table feature an undercut base that creates a floating effect, reducing the visual weight of even the most massive forms. Evolution in Form brings together work that explores the tension between tradition and innovation across materials and techniques. The collection most notably includes Radnor’s first venture into outdoor furniture – the Pausa sofa collection by longtime collaborators Bunn Studio. These sculptural rattan pieces with their generous proportions and enveloping forms connect historical craft traditions with contemporary sensibilities.
