As seen over on YouTube (thank you, VGC), the deciding match of the 'Full House 2025' tournament in Pennsylvania, USA, ended up being all kinds of unexpectedly exciting when Canadian player Moky decided to get a little bit too tricksy for his own good whilst 2-0 down to America's Cody Schwab on the game's Pokémon Stadium stage.Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube813kWatch on YouTube With a deficit to make up (the rules are first to three), Moky decided to employ a pro strategy in Smash Bros. Melee known as 'Wavedashing', a high-level technique/physics engine exploit performed by air-dodging diagonally down into the ground. All good. However, as Moky takes to a tree on the left of the arena (as shown in pro Smash player Hungrybox's time-stamped video above) and begins to employ Wavedash, he vanishes through the tree and out of the stage to his doom, handing the winning point — and a delicious pile of dollars — to a very surprised-looking Schwab. Images: Youtube.com/@hungrybox The glitch that occurred is actually a well-known one related to the Pokémon Stadium arena, and these pro players know all too well about it, which of course has led some on Reddit to accuse Moky of having done it on purpose at 2-0 down, which Moky denies. (Language warning on that link!) Whatever the case, and judging by the video itself, the incident certainly surprised his opponent, and gathered onlookers, and we can't help feel a little bad watching Moky's expression change as he realises all of that sweet moolah is sailing away on the good ship 'Never Get Fancy When It's Business Time' (not a real boat). Unless he did mean it. Of course, Super Smash Bros Melee has a whole bunch of weird glitches and bugs that players know about at this stage, some 24 years since its first release. There's the likes of the 'Ice Climbers Wobbling Glitch', which has been banned in tournaments. There's also the much darker sounding 'Black Hole Glitch', which...well...it makes a black hole in the stage you're on, if you shoot the Super Scope in a certain coordinated way with other players. A threat actor known as Hazy Hawk has been observed hijacking abandoned cloud resources of high-profile organizations, including Amazon S3 buckets and Microsoft Azure endpoints, by leveraging misconfigurations in the Domain Name System (DNS) records. The hijacked domains are then used to host URLs that direct users to scams and malware via traffic distribution systems (TDSes), according to Infoblox. Some of the other resources usurped by the threat actor include those hosted on Akamai, Bunny CDN, Cloudflare CDN, GitHub, and Netlify. The DNS threat intelligence firm said it first discovered the threat actor after it gained control of several sub-domains associated with the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) in February 2025. It has since been determined that other government agencies across the globe, prominent universities, and international corporations such as Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Ernst & Young have been victimized by the same threat actor since at least December 2023. "Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Hazy Hawk is that these hard-to-discover, vulnerable domains with ties to esteemed organizations are not being used for espionage or 'highbrow' cybercrime," Infoblox's Jacques Portal and Renée Burton said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "Instead, they feed into the seedy underworld of adtech, whisking victims to a wide range of scams and fake applications, and using browser notifications to trigger processes that will have a lingering impact." What makes Hazy Hawk's operations noteworthy is the hijacking of trusted and reputable domains belonging to legitimate organizations, thus boosting their credibility in search results when they are being used to serve malicious and spammy content. But even more concerningly, the approach enables the threat actors to bypass detection. Underpinning the operation is the ability of the attackers to seize control of abandoned domains with dangling DNS CNAME records, a technique previously exposed by Guardio in early 2024 as being exploited by bad actors for spam proliferation and click monetization. All a threat actor needs to do is register the missing resource to hijack the domain. Hazy Hawk goes a step further by finding abandoned cloud resources and then commandeering them for malicious purposes. In some cases, the threat actor employs URL redirection techniques to conceal which cloud resource was hijacked. "We use the name Hazy Hawk for this actor because of how they find and hijack cloud resources that have dangling DNS CNAME records and then use them in malicious URL distribution," Infoblox said. "It's possible that the domain hijacking component is provided as a service and is used by a group of actors." The attack chains often involve cloning the content of legitimate sites for their initial site hosted on the hijacked domains, while luring victims into visiting them with pornographic or pirated content. The site visitors are then funneled via a TDS to determine where they land next. "Hazy Hawk is one of the dozens of threat actors we track within the advertising affiliate world," the company said. "Threat actors who belong to affiliate advertising programs drive users into tailored malicious content and are incentivized to include requests to allow push notifications from 'websites' along the redirection path." In doing so, the idea is to flood a victim's device with push notifications and deliver an endless torrent of malicious content, with each notification leading to different scams, scareware, and fake surveys, and accompanied by requests to allow more push notifications. To prevent and protect against Hazy Hawk activities, domain owners are recommended to remove a DNS CNAME record as soon as a resource is shut down. End users, on the other hand, are advised to deny notification requests from websites they don't know. "While operators like Hazy Hawk are responsible for the initial lure, the user who clicks is led into a labyrinth of sketchy and outright malicious adtech. The fact that Hazy Hawk puts considerable effort into locating vulnerable domains and then using them for scam operations shows that these advertising affiliate programs are successful enough to pay well," Infoblox said. If you received a racist email from security camera provider Ring, you're not alone. It appears that pranksters exploited the vendor’s sign-up system to send the hateful messages to users. Over the weekend, numerous social media users reported receiving the emails from the official ring.com domain at “verify.ring.com.” The emails were meant to confirm that the user has signed up for Ring’s online service, but names in the email were changed to a racist slur. A PCMag reporter also received one such email, which came from verify.ring.com, but through a Ring subsidiary in Amsterdam. A "Verify Now" button in the email can also be clicked to officially create the user account with Ring. (Credit: PCMag/Ring)The emails sparked concerns that Ring was hacked. But it looks like the pranksters simply exploited Ring’s sign-up form, which is openly available on the web. That form merely asks for a first name, last name, and email address before Ring sends a confirmation email to the user. Recommended by Our EditorsThis suggests the pranksters took a trove of stolen email addresses—which often circulate on hacker forums—and ran them through Ring’s sign-up page to spam out the racist emails. The emails were also spotted using different racial slurs in the name field. In a statement, Ring added: “We’re aware of an issue involving non-customers' emails being used without their knowledge to create Ring accounts. These accounts appear to have been created by an unauthorized actor who obtained email addresses from a source other than Ring.”Although no breach occurred, the racist emails are still creating worries that the prank could allow people to create a Ring account for them without their consent. However, Ring told PCMag: “We are deactivating these accounts.”In addition, Ring appears to have fixed the exploit in the sign-up system. Now confirmation emails from Ring will simply say, “Hi, Neighbor,” rather than add the name of the user who signed up. Ring also says no unauthorized access or impact to Ring customer accounts or information occurred.

Mike Kiev - Fotolia News Hacking contest exposes VMware security In what has been described as a historical first, hackers in Berlin have been able to demo successful attacks on the ESXi hypervisor By Cliff Saran, Managing Editor Published: 20 May 2025 16:30 The cyber security team at Broadcom has acknowledged that during the Pwn2Own hacking contest in Berlin in March, there were three successful attacks on the VMware hypervisor.  On March 16, Nguyen Hoang Thach, a security researcher from Star Labs, successfully exploited VMware ESXi. “This is the first time VMware ESXi was exploited in the Pwn2Own hacking event,” Praveen Singh and Monty Ijzerman, from the product security and incident response team in the VMware Cloud Foundation division of Broadcom, wrote on the company’s website.  This is something that has not been achieved before, according to a LinkedIn post by Bob Carver, CEO of Cybersecurity Boardroom. “This was the first time in Pwn2Own’s history, stretching back to 2007, that the hypervisor has been successfully exploited,” he wrote, adding that the hacker was able to deploy a single integer overflow exploit. Singh and Ijzerman also noted that on 17 March, Corentin Bayet, chief technology officer of Reverse Tactics, successfully exploited ESXi by chaining two vulnerabilities. According to Singh and Ijzerman, one of the vulnerabilities used in the exploit was already known. The third successful attack, also on 17 March, was run by Thomas Bouzerar and Etienne Helluy-Lafont, security experts from Synacktiv, who managed to successfully exploit the VMware workstation. Singh and Ijzerman said the team at Broadcom were actively working on the remediation. “We plan to publish a VMware Security Advisory to provide information on updates for the affected products,” they said. Read more VMware stories No workaround leads to more pain for VMware users: There are patches for the latest batch of security alerts from Broadcom, but VMware users on perpetual licences may not have access. VMware patches put spotlight on support: Recent security updates in VMware products have highlighted the challenge IT decision-makers face as they navigate Broadcom licensing changes. While Broadcom has so far committed to providing patches for zero-day exploits, its current strategy to move customers onto VMware Cloud Foundation subscription bundles may leave some VMware users with gaps in their security, especially if their support contract is up for renewal. As Computer Weekly reported earlier this month, Broadcom informed customers it would no longer renew support contracts for VMware products purchased on a perpetual licence basis and that support would only continue for those that moved to a VMware subscription. On 12 May, Broadcom issued a critical security advisory, CVE-2025-22249, which affects the Aria toolset. The Cybersecurity Centre for Belgium said that given the vulnerability requires user interaction, it could be exploited through a phishing attack if a VMware admin clicked on a malicious URL link. “If the user is logged in to their VMware Aria Automation account, the threat actor could gain full control of their account and perform any actions the user has the rights to perform. The vulnerability has a severe impact to the confidentiality and low impact to the integrity of the affected systems,” it warned, urging VMware users to “patch immediately”. Broadcom has issued patches for VMware Aria Automation 8.18.x and version 5.x and 4.x of VMware Cloud Foundation, but it has not provided any workarounds, which means those users running an older version of the tool remain at risk. There are a number of reports that many VMware customers have been sent cease-and-desist emails from Broadcom regarding their perpetual VMware licenses, which demand removal of patches and bug fixes that they may have installed. While details of the successful exploits of the VMware hypervisor have yet to be published, the patches are not yet available, and questions remain as to how widely these will be distributed. Scammers are always coming up with new tricks. Just when you start feeling confident about spotting phishing emails, suspicious links and fake banking apps, they find a new angle. Lately, they have been getting more creative, turning to the built-in features of our phones to pull off their schemes. One of the latest targets is NFC, the technology behind tap-to-pay. It might seem harmless, but a new scam is using it in ways most people would never expect. An Android malware called SuperCard goes beyond just stealing your card details. It gives attackers the ability to use your card remotely for real transactions. And the worst part is that it all begins with something as simple as a text message. As reported by researchers at Cleafy, instead of stealing usernames, passwords or verification codes, it uses a method called NFC relay. This allows attackers to copy card data from a victim's device in real time and use it elsewhere to make payments or withdraw cash. The process does not require physical access to the card or knowledge of the PIN.The malware is offered through a Malware-as-a-Service model, which means different cybercriminals can use it in their own regions. This makes the threat more scalable and harder to contain. Unlike most banking trojans, SuperCard X is not focused on one specific institution. It targets any cardholder regardless of which bank issued their card.Another key difference is how stealthy the malware is. It uses minimal permissions and does not include extra features that would make it easier to detect. This lean approach helps it avoid detection by antivirus software and allows it to operate quietly on infected devices. This is the first step in gaining the victim's trust.Once on the phone, the attacker poses as a bank representative and walks the victim through a fake security process. This may include asking them to confirm personal details or adjust settings in their mobile banking app, such as removing spending limits on their card.Next, the attacker asks the victim to install a mobile app that is described as a tool to verify the account or enhance security. In reality, this app contains the SuperCard X malware. After the installation, the attacker instructs the victim to tap their card against the phone. The malware then captures the NFC data from the card and sends it to a second phone controlled by the attacker.Using the copied data, the attacker can make contactless payments or make ATM withdrawals almost instantly. This method allows them to steal funds quickly and leaves little opportunity for banks or victims to intervene in time. Use strong antivirus software: Fraudulent campaigns often begin with an SMS or call that seems to come from your bank. These messages usually claim there's suspicious activity on your account and urge you to click a link or dial a number to resolve the issue. However, this is a tactic used to gain access to your personal information. Always approach such messages with skepticism.The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have strong antivirus software installed on all your devices. Instead, only download apps from trusted sources, such as the Google Play Store. Additionally, carefully review app permissions and avoid granting unnecessary access, particularly to sensitive data like NFC, location or personal contacts.3) Turn off NFC when not in use: NFC, or Near Field Communication, is a useful feature that allows contactless payments and data exchanges. However, it can be exploited by attackers to capture your card information without you even realizing it. To minimize your risk of falling victim to NFC-based malware like SuperCard X, turn off NFC when you're not actively using it. On most Android devices, you can do this by going to "Settings," then "Connected Devices" or "Connection Preferences," where you’ll find the NFC toggle. By disabling NFC, your phone won't transmit data wirelessly, which helps protect your payment card information from being stolen by nearby attackers.4) Keep a close eye on your bank accounts and cards: If your device has come into contact with the SuperCard or anything similar, it’s possible your banking details are already compromised. That’s why it’s important to regularly check your transaction history for anything odd, like a small payment you don’t remember making or a charge from a strange location could be a sign of misuse. If you spot anything suspicious, report it to your bank right away. By limiting the information available, you reduce the risk of scammers cross-referencing data from breaches with information they might find on the dark web, making it harder for them to target you. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.6) Contact your bank and freeze your cards: If you think you’ve tapped or handled a suspicious card, or if your phone acted strangely afterward, don’t brush it off. Call your bank and let them know what happened. They can freeze your card to stop any unauthorized payments and issue a new one for added safety. You should also ask them to monitor your account more closely for a while. On top of that, place a fraud alert with a credit bureau so no one can easily open a new line of credit in your name.7) Consider enrolling in identity theft protection services: If you've been targeted by a sophisticated scam like SuperCard X, there's a chance your personal information, not just your card data, may be at risk. Identity theft companies can monitor personal information, like your Social Security number, phone number and email address, and alert you if it is being sold on the dark web or being used to open an account. EPIC GAMES C’est une histoire qui condense à elle seule plusieurs problématiques liées à l’utilisation de l’intelligence artificielle (IA) dans le monde du divertissement. Depuis quelques jours, les joueurs de Fortnite peuvent recruter dans leur équipe le personnage de Dark Vador, et discuter de vive voix avec lui. Et pas n’importe quelle voix ! Le méchant iconique de Star Wars répond avec celle du comédien James Earl Jones, son interprète original… mort en septembre dernier. Une prouesse rendue possible grâce à un programme d’IA capable de reproduire son timbre et ses intonations. Epic Games, l’éditeur de Fornite, va même plus loin : ce Dark Vador ne se contente pas de répéter des phrases préécrites, il élabore en direct des réponses à ses interlocuteurs grâce à Gemini, l’IA conversationnelle de Google. Naturellement, les joueurs ont aussitôt tenté de faire dérailler ce Dark Vador dopé à l’IA. Avec un relatif succès. La streameuse australienne Loserfruit a par exemple réussi à le faire jurer, dans une vidéo très partagée, peu conforme à l’esprit Disney, qui possède la licence Star Wars. D’autres sont parvenus à lui faire répéter des mots comme « seins » ou « Skibidi Toilet », la web-série irrévérencieuse. Pas grand-chose de plus, mais Epic Games a tout de même réagi à la vidéo de Loserfruit, annonçant le déploiement « immédiat » d’un correctif et promettant que « ça ne devrait pas se reproduire ». L’autre problème, pour l’éditeur du jeu, vient du SAG-Aftra (Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), le syndicat des acteurs américains. Lundi 19 mai, celui-ci a annoncé qu’il lançait une procédure devant l’inspection américaine du travail (NLRB). Ce syndicat est à l’origine de la grève des scénaristes de 2023 qui avait paralysé Hollywood, et dont les revendications concernaient, entre autres, l’usage de l’IA. Il mène aussi, depuis juillet 2024, un mouvement de grève des comédiens du jeu vidéo, qui craignent de perdre leur emploi à cause de l’intelligence artificielle. James Earl Jones était d’accord pour voir sa voix reconstituée par IA. Avant sa mort, il avait signé un accord avec Respeecher, une entreprise ukrainienne d’intelligence artificielle, visant à recréer sa voix pour la série Obi-Wan Kenobi. Pour Fornite, Epic avait précisé en mai avoir obtenu l’accord de ses ayants droit, et les avait cités dans un communiqué : « James Earl Jones lui-même disait que la voix de Dark Vador était un élément essentiel de l’histoire de Star Wars. Il a toujours souhaité que les fans, petits et grands, puissent continuer à en profiter. This serpentine behemoth is a one-of-a-kind threat packed with unique mechanics and an aggressive attitude. The Tempered version takes it to another level and is considered by many to be stronger than anything encountered in the campaign or after. The only requirements are being at Hunter Rank 21 and having already completed the “Fishing: Life, In Microcosm” side mission for Kanya. Once you’ve hunted the monster down one time, it will start spawning in both the Scarlet Forest and Ruins of Wyveria.Tempered Mizutsune can spawn in these same areas, albeit only once you’ve leveled up more and at least reached chapter six of the main quest line. I can say from personal experience that the Tempered version spawned more often during a Fallow season or an Inclemency. Feel free to use the Rest function a couple of times to make it show up.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuMizutsune’s most distinctive aspect are its bubbles, which are dispersed during many of its attacks. Getting hit by most of these will inflict you with the unique Bubbleblight ailment. This ailment is split into a minor and a major stage. Minor Bubbleblight isn’t too bad, as it’s a buff that enhances your evasion. Getting hit with another bubble will change it to the more frustrating Major Bubbleblight, which causes you to slip while running and be sent farther away by large attacks or explosions.A Nulberry is unfortunately not able to cure this status ailment, although they’re still worth bringing since Mizutsune can additionally inflict both Waterblight and Fireblight. The quickest way to cure Bubbleblight is to use a Cleanser. Alternatively, if you have fought this monster before and are just farming, equipping Mizutsune-forged armor is a big help. Its Bubbly Dance skill will prevent Major Bubbleblight so that you can focus more on dealing damage. If you don’t have the armor or run out of Cleanser, your next best bet is waiting 30 seconds for it to disappear.Some bubbles apply different effects, which makes things more complicated. Thankfully, they’re color-coded; however, you’ll still need to be quick on your feet when they’re coming right at you. Here are the different-colored bubbles and what they do:Clear: Deals damage and inflicts BubbleblightGreen: Provides healing and inflicts BubbleblightRed: Provides a temporary attack boost and inflicts BubbleblightFiery Blue: Deals damage and inflicts FireblightTrying to dodge these bubbles isn’t always the best use of your time. Both Slinger ammo and attacks from your weapon can pop them, although slower melee weapons can require precise timing. Using ranged weapons like Heavy or Light Bowguns is a lot more convenient.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuMizutsune is a highly mobile monster that can hit hard and use its water-based attacks to trigger a variety of status ailments. Start your hunts with the following weaknesses in mind because you’ll want to take advantage of them:Elemental Weaknesses: Thunder, DragonWeapon Type Weaknesses: Cut, BluntBreakable Parts: Head x2, Claws x2, Tail (can also be severed), Dorsal FinWeak Point: MouthSusceptible Status Ailments: Blastblight, Exhaust, Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, StunScreenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuEven though you can tackle this thing as early as Hunter Rank 21, I suggest holding off for a bit. Mizutsune dishes out massive damage that can be mitigated with better armor and weapons. Wait until you’ve finished chapter five and can farm Gore Magala hunts. Weapons crafted from Gore Magala parts dish out Dragon element damage, while its armor offers great Water resistance. These are huge advantages to have when fighting this creature.Any weapon type can work, but slower ones will feel extra cumbersome against Mizutsune. Between the erratic movements and seemingly endless bubbles, it’s convenient to have quicker weapons like Dual Blades or Sword and Shield. Their multi-hitting nature will help with applying elemental damage as well. I advise pinning it down using traps and different ailments if you’re still having trouble landing hits.You should also watch out for its Waterblight-inflicting jet stream attacks. Mizutsune has a handful of moves that involve vertical or horizontal sweeping water beams. Thankfully, they’re easily telegraphed and have small hitboxes. Make sure to exploit Mizutsune’s long recovery periods after using these attacks.Mizutsune’s long-reaching tail attacks are another notable characteristic. The most deadly of these are the tail slams, which come out fast and can take out all of your health if your defense is low. There is a backflip variant to hit anyone behind and another where it twists its body in the air to slam those in front. I’ve seen the latter countered with an Offset Attack, but dodging it is the less risky solution.All of the above is amplified when the monster enters its unique enraged state. Breaking its head will enable it to transition into a powered-up mode akin to Soulseer Mizutsune from prior entries, complete with blue fire flaring from its left eye. Mizutsune will start shooting fire-covered bubbles in addition to using attacks more rapidly and aggressively when this state is triggered. While you can try to avoid this by not breaking the head, the trade-off is that you’ll be inflicting less damage. The one positive to this enraged state is that it will tire quicker and eventually become exhausted. That’s your cue to start dealing as much damage as possible.Don’t feel bad if these hunts leave you frustrated. There is a lot to keep track of with little time for reaction. Tempered Mizutsune is even more challenging and might just be the toughest fight in Monster Hunter Wilds yet. Still, everything we’ve mentioned will apply all the same. Memorizing which animations initiate which attacks will go a long way. Otherwise, bring your best gear, outfit them with appropriate decorations, and carry the Armorcharm and Powercharm items for good measure.Screenshot: Capcom / Samuel Moreno / KotakuNothing makes a tough fight feel worth it more than some good loot. Flipping through the monster’s Detailed Info tabs will break down all the various drop rates for the end of a hunt, destroyed wounds, and body part carvings. It’s a lot to take in, but worth perusing to narrow down what parts you need. I’ve provided a simple list of the attainable Mizutsune materials below that’s sorted by the overall drop frequency, with the most common parts at the top.Mizutsune Fin+ (100% chance for breaking the Head or Dorsal Fin)Mizutsune Claw+ (100% chance for breaking either Claw)Mizutsune Purplefur+ (100% chance for breaking the Tail)Mizutsune TailMizutsune Scale+Bubblefoam+Mizutsune Certificate SMizutsune Water Orb The community’s pleas for harder hunts certainly seem to have been heard.
