• AU Deals: Today's Hottest AAA Discounts to Heat Up Your Game Cave Winter Hibernation

Winter is well and truly biting, but this fresh crop of game deals is bringing the heat. From mythological mayhem to pocket-sized platformers, there’s something here for every taste and timeframe. If your digital shelf could use a mid-year injection of chaos, charm, or challenge, this week’s offerings are primed to please. This Day in Gaming In retro news, I’m lighting a 26‑candle cake for Silent Hill, the fog‑laden survival horror fest that kept '99-era me perched on a seat with barely 2% of the surface area of one butt cheek. I still remember tentatively sweeping my flashlight across those grainy, polygonal streets, only to have the beam half illuminate some scurrying something in the dark.
Though the OG Resident Evil certainly vexed me first, the unique magic of Silent Hill lay in how its graphical limitations—thick fog and encroaching darkness—became tools of terror rather than platform limitations. Every ring of static from your radio or *that* air raid siren heralding the "other plane" of this madhouse could ratchet up the dread in an instant. Lastly, I recall working game retail at launch and having to help absolutely bloody everybody with a solution to the piano puzzle.Tank controls andbugger all visibility. • 'The Best Competitive Multiplayer Games' Book Is Chock-Full Of Nintendo Titles

Image: Ollie Reynolds / Nintendo LifeLast year, we were kindly sent a sample of 'The Most Relaxing Video Games' from Ryan Janes, a lovely book that delved into a collection of games handpicked to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Now, Janes is back with another book, this time looking at some of the best PvP games ever made – in fact, it's straight up called 'The Best Competitive Multiplayer Games', how about that! Much like the first book, this one doesn't merely list out a bunch of games and have done with it, but instead incorporates a lot of Janes' own personal history and anecdotes, making for a pleasant read from start to finish.Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube814kWatch on YouTube
It also happens to be chock-full of Nintendo titles; obvious choices like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Land, and Splatoon 3, but also games that might fly under the radar in the modern age: Pikmin 3, Warioware, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!, and Kirby's Dream Course, to name but a few. Other platforms are represented too, mind you, with classics like Tekken 3, The Typing of the Dead, and Marvel Snap all featured.
If you picked up Janes' first book and enjoyed it, then this is more of the delightful same. It's got lots of interesting facts that you might not have known before, plenty of cool choices that we perhaps won't have considered ourselves, and the product itself remains high quality and pleasantly big; a lovely coffee table book, then.

  • The Best Multiplayer Video Games for 2025

Sometimes you want to play alone, whether your game of choice is a relaxing solitaire session or an engrossing, cinematic campaign. We get that. Still, some of the best gaming-related experiences come from moments shared with other people. After all, an excellent multiplayer mode makes a video game endlessly replayable and enables good times with local friends or strangers across the country—as long as the servers stay up. Our list of the best multiplayer games casts a wide net that includes console and PC games, competitive and cooperative titles, casual board games and serious esports fare, and, of course, battle royales, shooters, and fighters. If you're interested in playing a game with at least one other person, you'll find something that catches your eye here. These are the best multiplayer video games that you and your friends should play right now.

    Apex Legends

From the ashes of Titanfall rose the best battle royale game. Respawn’s Apex Legends combines unbelievably fluid movement with impeccable gunplay and innovative team communication features. Each character’s unique abilities open strategic options on the expansive battlefield.

    Among Us

    Among Us4.0 Excellent

Among Us is more of a social experiment than a game. You and your friends play as crewmates attempting to repair a spaceship, but some players are deadly impostors who are picking off others. Constant lying and manipulation turn even the friendliest relationships into pure paranoia.

    Clubhouse Games

Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics4.0 Excellent

This compilation contains more than 50 classic games that have stood the test of time, including bowling, backgammon, and billiards. You can have fun with friends or family, but beware getting so heated that you'll never want to speak with them again. Online play ensures the goodtimes aren't limited to your immediate vicinity.

    Counter-Strike 2

    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

    4.0 Excellent

Counter-Strike is a founding father of multiplayer online shooters, and Counter-Strike 2 continues the legacy. • ‘Real talk…No’: Tekken 8 players still livid after Fahkumram gameplay, Armor King reveal

Tekken 8 is not sitting well with its community, and the latest gameplay trailer for Fahkumram didn’t do them any favors.Bandai Namco released the trailer on May 26, showing off the character’s move set, motivations for fighting, and subtle changes to the fighter’s design. The returning character will arrive as paid DLC on July 8 in early access and July 11 in general access, a part of Tekken 8’s Version 2.03 update. And if that wasn’t enough, Bandai Namco included a teaser for Armor King — another returning character — toward the end of the trailer. A specific release date wasn’t provided for the fan-favorite fighter, but is currently planned for a fall release.Neither reveal completely won over an already agitated Tekken community. Armor King appeared to garner mixed views from players, with some excited about getting King’s rival back in the fray, but others weren’t impressed with his inclusion.“Honestly, I had low hope that he would come back. But I’m so glad he’s coming back now,” a player commented on X.“THE GREATAST MOTHERFUCKIN CHARACTER IN TEKKEN HISTORY IS BACK!” one passionate fan typed, misspelling “greatest” out of sheer excitement.“LMAO, you know what’s funny,” someone else quipped. “They had to reveal this dude cuz they’re trying so hard to return the player base afterup the start of this season & revealing Fahkumram a dlc character from the previous title that nobody liked.”And speaking of Fahkumram, the community’s ill feelings toward him did not waver — gameplay or not, they’re still unimpressed. Players threw out a slew of comments calling the reveal “the most boring DLC trailer” and insisting they would “never like him.”Other commentary called out Bandai Namco for choosing to recycle Tekken 7 DLC and repurposing those characters for Tekken 8.“Man said we are paying for the same characters from T7 DLC all over again,” said one fan.“Why almost all of the DLC is DLC from Tekken 7?” questioned another account.“Real talk...No,” one player posted. “Could have added these people into the regular roster and bought back some we have not seen in a while like Bruce, Christie or made new characters for Tekken 8 DLC. used to have imagination in the industry.”Along with the mixed reviews of Tekken 8’s DLC, the game’s gameplay and mechanics have been a touchy subject, with the community irked by the devs making input changes to legacy characters. Gameplay changes were also made to a huge part of the character roster, adding forced 50/50 options with no defensive answers to respond.Tekken 8’s Version 2.02 and 2.03 are arriving in June and July so, these issues may be addressed. But as of right now, things are not looking too great for the Tekken 8 community.See More:

‘Real talk…No’: Tekken 8 players still livid after Fahkumram gameplay, Armor King reveal
• Tekken 8 Adds Armor King in Season 2 This Fall

The reception to Fahkumram as the second DLC character for Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 hasn’t been the best. While he’s about two weeks off from release, the developer has announced the next DLC fighter – Armor King.
As a fan favorite, Armor King debuted in the first Tekken and has appeared in numerous entries, with Tekken 7 being the last. He’s an accomplished luchadore who entered a rivalry with King, though they would eventually become friends.
After his death at the hands of Craig Marduk, his younger brother took up the mantle, becoming Armor King 2. Given everything that’s happened in the world of Tekken since the previous game, it should be interesting to see how he’ll factor into the story and whether Marduk is still an issue.
Armor King is out this Fall for Season 2 Character Pass holders. Stay tuned for a concrete release date in the coming months, and check out our review for Tekken 8 here.

US FTC Officially Drops Antitrust Complaints Against Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard
Microsoft president Brad Smith took to social media to celebrate the fact that the FTC has dropped its appeals against Microsoft.

Posted By Joelle Daniels | On 26th, May. 2025

The US Federal Trade Commission has officially dropped its appeals for an antitrust case against Microsoft for its acquisition of Activision Blizzard entirely. The FTC released a statement, saying that at this point, public interest is “best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case.”
“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the complaint in this matter be, and it hereby is, dismissed,” said the FTC in an order announcing the dismissal of the governing body’s complaint. Microsoft president Brad Smith took to social media platform X to praise the decision. “Today’s decision is a victory for players across the country and for common sense in Washington, D.C.,” wrote Smith. “We are grateful to the FTC for today’s announcement.”
The FTC complaint being dropped comes a few weeks after its appeal for a denied injunction from 2023 also getting denied by the 9th Circuit US Court of Appeals. The court stated that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard was not violating US antitrust laws, with Judge Daniel P. Collins writing that the FTC hadn’t shown the “likelihood of success on the merits as to any of its theories,” with regards to the case.
Back when the FTC had first set out to fight Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, one of its core arguments was that the company would use its position in the industry to dominate the console market by releasing games exclusively on its own platforms. This led to Microsoft inking deals with both Sony and Nintendo to ensure that major franchises like Call of Duty wouldn’t be withheld from other consoles.
Collins also pointed out that, despite being industry practice to have exclusive games in order to push console hardware sales, Microsoft is currently in the weakest spot behind Sony and Nintendo when it comes to having exclusives of its own. “All major manufacturers have engaged in this practice,” Collins wrote, continuing that competitors like Sony and Nintendo have “both have significantly higher number of exclusive games on their platform thandoes.”
Back in 2023, the original injunction was denied at the time because the Judge at the time noted that Microsoft’s push into cloud gaming on various platforms dispelled the idea that Activision Blizzard games being “exclusive” to Xbox in some way would harm competitors in the gaming market.
This now-dropped case by the FTC was the last thing plaguing Microsoft when it came to potential antitrust issues with regards to its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The deal has otherwise been considered complete since October 2023, however, with Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer welcoming the new studios under the Xbox Game Studios banner.

US FTC Officially Drops Antitrust Complaints Against Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard
News US FTC Officially Drops Antitrust Complaints Against Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard Microsoft president Brad Smith took to social media to celebrate the fact that the FTC has dropped its appeals against Microsoft. Posted By Joelle Daniels | On 26th, May. 2025 The US Federal Trade Commission has officially dropped its appeals for an antitrust case against Microsoft for its acquisition of Activision Blizzard entirely. The FTC released a statement, saying that at this point, public interest is “best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case.” “Accordingly, it is hereby ordered that the complaint in this matter be, and it hereby is, dismissed,” said the FTC in an order announcing the dismissal of the governing body’s complaint. Microsoft president Brad Smith took to social media platform X to praise the decision. “Today’s decision is a victory for players across the country and for common sense in Washington, D.C.,” wrote Smith. “We are grateful to the FTC for today’s announcement.” The FTC complaint being dropped comes a few weeks after its appeal for a denied injunction from 2023 also getting denied by the 9th Circuit US Court of Appeals. “All major manufacturers have engaged in this practice,” Collins wrote, continuing that competitors like Sony and Nintendo have “both have significantly higher number of exclusive games on their platform thandoes.” Back in 2023, the original injunction was denied at the time because the Judge at the time noted that Microsoft’s push into cloud gaming on various platforms dispelled the idea that Activision Blizzard games being “exclusive” to Xbox in some way would harm competitors in the gaming market. • Tekken 8’s Fahkumram Arrives on June 10th, New Gameplay Revealed

While the developer alleviates many of Season 2’s balance complaints, Tekken 8’s next DLC character, Fahkumram, is surging ahead. Out on June 7th for Season 2 Character Pass holders and June 10th for everyone else, the Muay Thai fighter brings his signature dose of destruction.
As a relatively new combatant to the series, having debuted in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Fahkumram is battling for the Thai military for the sake of his wife and daughter. His style mixes hard-hitting elbow and knee strikes, faints, and channeling lighting to enhance his attacks.
His Rage Art is especially breathtaking since it’s a powerful kick that sends his opponent flying. How he’ll fare in the current meta remains to be seen, so stay tuned for more details.
Tekken 8 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC and has sold over three million copies. It faced controversy recently due to Season 2’s changes, for which the developer promised extensive fixes.
