Coming to PC, Xbox and PlayStation, the newly upgraded version of the Stalker Trilogy will arrive on May 20, 2025. Owners of the previous versions of the game on all platforms will also receive a free upgrade to the new enhanced edition. The new version of the game will include a number of new graphical features, bug fixes and new optimisations as well as changes to make the game “more modern and immersive” for modern gamers. Of course, PC players will still have access to the original versions if they prefer it. “Several key areas have received updates to enhance the visual experience compared to the original games,” the developer explained. “These improvements include updated skyboxes, enhancements to GodRays and the overall lighting system, and refined surface reflections, including effects for wetness, improved 3D models for NPCs and guns. Furthermore, the textures have been upscaled and upgraded for greater detail. Additionally, some UI elements have been updated to improve usability on both PC and Consoles.” GSC explains that the new remasters do not alter or add any content to the Stalker Trilogy. (Sony Interactive Entertainment) As Sony projects a decline in PlayStation 5 console sales over the next year, the company is hoping software will pick up the slack. Sony’s first-party line-up for the PlayStation 5 has been an increasing disappointment over the past five years, with standouts like Returnal and Astro Bot, but too few new releases and too many remasters and failed live service experiments. The lack of first-party games is reflected in the company’s financial report for the 2024 fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025). As outlined by Sony, first-party software sales dropped to 28.9 million in FY24, a 10.8 million decline from 2023’s 39.7 million. While overall game sales were up over last year, at 303.3 million, Sony is expecting an increase in both first and third-party software sales over the 2025 financial year – which seems to indicate it has some surprises up its sleeve. Sony is set to release Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach in 2025, and according to Sony’s definition of the term, the latter does count as first party even though it’s not made by one of their internal studios. There are also projects like Bungie’s Marathon and the Sony-published Lost Soul Aside, which are both slated for this year and also come under the definition of first party. While Sony will likely increase its first-party sales with these games alone, there’s a chance another unannounced project might be lined up for 2025. Earlier this year, rumours claimed a new God Of War game set in Greece is planned for 2025, but nothing has been officially announced yet. It’s also perfectly possible that other, current unguessed at, titles could be waiting in the wings. Despite these positive forecasts for software sales, Sony is less optimistic when it comes to hardware. The company is expecting PlayStation 5 sales to drop in the 2025 financial year, which isn’t exactly surprising as we’re over five years into the console’s life cycle (and the next 12 months no longer has GTA 6 as a potential boost). More Trending Over the 2024 fiscal year, PlayStation 5 hardware sales totalled 18.5 million, selling 2.8 million in the last quarter. This is a small drop from the previous year’s 20.8 million. This means total PlayStation 5 sales have hit 77.8 million, which is just 1.4 million units behind the PlayStation 4 at the same period in its life. However, whether that means it’ll end up with a similar lifetime total, of around 117 million (making it the fifth most successful console of all time), is hard to guess. We’ll likely have a better idea of Sony’s upcoming software slate over the next month, if not through a State Of Play presentation, then at Summer Game Fest on June 6, 2025. A former Rockstar veteran has responded to recent rumors that a GTA 4 re-release on the latest generation of consoles could be in the works to say the game should be remastered.The GTA 4 rumor began life with a post from Tez2, who is known within the GTA community for leaking Rockstar information. Tez2 suggested a GTA 4 port for modern systems may be released this year, and its existence was part of the reason Rockstar recently had a GTA 5 Liberty City Mod shut down.However, it’s worth stressing that Rockstar has made no indication it plans to re-release GTA 4, and in truth such a game would come as a huge surprise, given the studio's ongoing focus on GTA 6.Every Celebrity in GTA 4Obbe Vermeij, former Rockstar Games technical director who worked at the company from 1995 to 2009, was asked about the GTA 4 rumors on social media. While he hadn’t heard about them, he did say GTA 4, which he worked on, “should be remastered.”“It's a great game and there have been a number of successful remasters recently,” he added, perhaps referring to the hugely popular The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.“I would like to see it updated,” Vermeij continued in another social media post. “Niko is still the best protagonist in any GTA game I think.”As for how this potential remaster might work, Vermeij suggested Rockstar would perhaps port GTA 4 to the latest version of the Rage engine, which it uses to build its games.PlayAgain, it’s worth pointing out that Rockstar has provided fans with no indication it plans to remaster GTA 4. We should remember the enormous undertaking that is GTA 6, and to take on a GTA 4 remaster or remake amid all that would perhaps be beyond the scope of Rockstar, even with its seemingly endless resources.Rockstar could have an external studio handle the port, as it did with the port of Red Dead Redemption, but the timing of a GTA 4 re-release in 2025 makes little sense when you think about GTA 6’s initial fall 2025 release window. If GTA 6 were not delayed, it’s doubtful Rockstar would sell a GTA 4 remaster and GTA 6 in the same window, diverting the audience's attention away from the main event.Sticking with Liberty City, some GTA fans think the location may end up in GTA 6 either at launch or as post-launch DLC.Liberty City is the GTA series’ take on New York City, and was the setting for 2008’s GTA 4 as well as 2009 spin-off GTA: Chinatown Wars.
