• Resident Evil 9 is big reinvention like Resident Evil 4 and 7 claims leaker
    metro.co.uk
Get ready for another shake up (Capcom)A prominent insider has compared Resident Evil 9 to previous game-changing entries, describing the next instalment as very ambitious. With the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds out of the way (after having gone extremely well) Capcoms attention will inevitably start to move towards Resident Evil. The next mainline instalment, Resident Evil 9, was officially announced last year, but we still havent seen or heard anything about it. The only information we have has come via rumours, with claims it will be open world, using technology from Dragons Dogma 2.None of this is confirmed, but the same leaker has now teased the sequel again, claiming it will almost definitely be shown this year.In a post on X, AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem claimed the reason Capcom has been so quiet about Resident Evil 9 for so long is because it is very ambitious.I know a lot of people are also antsy at the lack of Resident Evil news for a year and a half now, they noted on X. The thing I think people will realise when Resident Evil 9 is revealed is the reason this game is taking so long is because its like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7.Its not going to play just like Resident Evil 7 and [Resident Evil Village] or the remakes, its trying new things and [its] very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.Considering Resident Evil 4 completely did away with fixed camera angles and Resident Evil 7 moved the series to first person, these comments suggest Resident Evil 9 could mark a similarly drastic shift in perspective, or another kind of overhaul like the previously rumoured open world.More TrendingIf its using technology in Dragons Dogma 2, theres a chance it could incorporate reactive world elements (like the Dragonsplague disease which can dynamically infect towns) or more spontaneous monster clashes to evolve persistent enemies like Mr X.Its tough to imagine an open world Resident Evil, considering so many of its best moments are scripted sequences, but it seems like the most obvious way to upend the series in a significant way.As for when Capcom could debut the next Resident Evil, the obvious answer is around Summer Game Fest in June. Remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code: Veronica are also apparently in development, so a dedicated presentation from Capcom could be on the cards too especially as theyve held one the same week as Summer Game Fest before.None of these projects have a release date but considering the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil is in 2026, its likely Capcom has a whole bunch up its sleeve for the occasion. Live service game for major IP shut down after 9 months but no refundsAdam StarkeyPublished March 17, 2025 1:42pmUpdated March 17, 2025 1:43pm Yes, this is an actual image from Star Wars: Hunters (Zynga)Another live service game has announced its going offline less than a year after it launched, and this one has the backing of a blockbuster IP. The history of licensed video games shows how the support of a major franchise doesnt always translate to success, but it can certainly help. as seen with games like Marvel Rivals and Hogwarts Legacy.Unfortunately, that isnt the case for Star Wars: Hunters though. The little known free-to-play, competitive arena combat game was released in June last year but just over nine months later, developer Zynga has announced it will go offline on October 1, 2025.We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly, the announcement post reads. Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process. In light of this news, Season 5 of Star Wars: Hunters will be extended by three weeks, starting from March 25. The games final content update, with new support hunter Tuya, will be released for free on April 15. On this same date, in-game purchases will be disabled across all platforms. The online servers will shut down on October 1, which is when Star Wars: Hunters will be delisted and no longer playable in any capacity. As confirmed in a Q&A page, players are not entitled to refunds on any in-game currency they have purchased. The post reads: The intention of the 30-day notice we are giving between March 17 and turning off in-app purchases on April 15 is to give players ample time to prepare and spend the in-game currency they have purchased.Zynga also confirmed the previously announced PC port will no longer launch, for obvious reasons. The game is currently available on Nintendo Switch and mobile. As one Star Wars game shuts down though, another is set to rise next month. A strategy game based on the franchise is set to be revealed during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan on April 19.More TrendingThe untitled game, which was originally announced back in 2022, is a collaboration between Star Wars Jedi: Survivors Respawn and Bit Reactor, a new independent studio comprised of former XCOM and Civilization developers.A listing on the Star Wars Celebration line-up promises a first look at a new Star Wars turn-based tactics game, with representatives from Bit Reactor, Respawn, and Lucasfilm Games. As for other Star Wars games in the pipeline, Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch recently told Game File the long-troubled Knights Of The Old Republic remake is still in development, although theres still no indication of a release date or indeed proof of how the game is coming along.A sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is also in the works at Respawn, which will be the third and final entry in the series, albeit without series creator Stig Asmussen. • Webb Telescope Captures First Direct Evidence of Carbon Dioxide on an Exoplanet
    gizmodo.com
By Isaac Schultz Published March 17, 2025 | Comments (0) | An infrared image of the HR 8799 system. Image: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, W. Balmer (JHU), L. Pueyo (STScI), M. Perrin (STScI) NASAs Webb Space Telescope has captured direct images of carbon dioxide in a planet beyond our solar system for the first time. The images feature HR 8799, a multiplanet system 130 light-years from Earth. The discovery not only reveals a chemical compound essential on Earth for processes including photosynthesis and the carbon cycle, but also indicates that gas giant planets elsewhere in the galaxy formed in a similar way to our local giants, Jupiter and Saturn. The teams analysis of the Webb imagery was published today in The Astrophysical Journal. By spotting these strong carbon dioxide features, we have shown there is a sizable fraction of heavier elements, such as carbon, oxygen, and iron, in these planets atmospheres, said William Balmer, an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University and lead author of the study, in a university release. Given what we know about the star they orbit, that likely indicates they formed via core accretion. The HR 8799 system is roughly 30 million years old, making it downright infantile in the scales of deep time, as it only began about halfway between the dinosaurs being wiped out and the modern day. (Our own solar system is about 4.6 billion years old). Because of its nascent development, the planets in the HR 8799 system are seen emitting lots of infrared lightperfect emissions for the Webb Space Telescope, which images at infrared and near-infrared wavelengths. By analyzing these emissions, scientists can determine how the planets formed and uncover other characteristics of these distant worlds. Our hope with this kind of research is to understand our own solar system, life, and ourselves in comparison to other exoplanetary systems, so we can contextualize our existence, Balmer said in the release. We want to take pictures of other solar systems and see how theyre similar or different when compared to ours, they added. From there, we can try to get a sense of how weird our solar system really isor how normal.Large planets like Jupiter form one of two ways, as far as planetary scientists know: They either develop solid cores that then glom on gas gravitationally, or they collapse quickly into a planet from the disk of cooling material around a young star. Based on its analysis, the team believes the four planets in HR 8799 formed from the bottom up, and studying more Webb observations could reveal how commonor rarethat approach to world-building is. Illustration: Melissa Weiss/Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian In 2022, the Webb telescope detected unequivocal evidence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a distant exoplanet called WASP-39b. But that detection was made indirectly, so the latest accomplishment newly validates the telescopes ability to spot the gas in distant star systems.Scrutinizing the giant gas planets like those recently observed in HR 8799 can help clue researchers into how those huge planets affect less massive worlds around us, for better and for worse. The teams observations also made the first-ever detection of the systems innermost planet, another testing ground on which Webb passed with flying colors. The multibillion-dollar space observatory is collecting reams of data for astrophysicists to sift through, revealing the sources of the oldest light we can see and teasing out details of planets previously too faint to identify.Webb is revolutionizing the astrophysical discoveries scientists can make peering into deep space. The telescope is expected to operate for at least a decade, and perhaps longer, so buckle up for years of new insights into planetary formation.Daily NewsletterYou May Also Like By Isaac Schultz Published March 14, 2025 By Isaac Schultz Published March 13, 2025 By Isaac Schultz Published March 13, 2025 By Passant Rabie Published March 12, 2025 By Passant Rabie Published March 12, 2025 By Margherita Bassi Published March 12, 2025

Discover the Winning Projects of the Upcoming 2025 Edition of Concntrico Festival in LogrooSave this picture!Al agua patos de K37.lab (Carlos Iraburu Elizalde, lvaro Oriol, Jos Rodrguez-Losada, Carlos Iraburu Bonaf), Espaa.. Image Cortesa de k37.labThe renowned festival of ephemeral architecture and the city, Concntrico, is gearing up for its eleventh edition, which, as every year, will take place in the city of Logroo. In 2025, the event will be held from June 19 to 24, featuring a program that includes various activities, conferences, and tours aimed at reflecting on public space, cities, and the ways we intervene in and interact with them. The upcoming edition of Concntrico will introduce new formats and initiatives, with activities not only in Logroo but also in Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Dammam, and Huesca. With this expansion to different cities and formats, Concntrico will also strengthen educational programs and citizen participation, fostering dialogue between architects, designers, and communities.Save this picture!Among these new formats, the call for the incorporation of a permanent project stands out as a new development, with construction planned for 2026. This project responds to a call for the design of a Permanent Urban Climate Island in Logroo, which will be located on the lake of Parque Felipe VI. The winners of this call were Carlos Iraburu Elizalde, lvaro Oriol, Jos Rodrguez-Losada, and Carlos Iraburu Bonaf, from the Madrid-based architecture studio K37.lab, with their project titled 'Al agua patos.'The goal of the project is to create a climatic island that revitalizes a unique space and encourages interaction with the natural environment. It will be structured in three elements: two main layers and a boundary that connects them, forming a central garden with vegetation adapted to the climate. A modular pergola will provide shade, and, together with an interactive and accessible pond, the aim is to reactivate and give new life to this space, inviting the community to enjoy it.Save this picture! On the other hand, the open call for temporary pavilions was structured around three thematic axes: Objects in the City, Third Landscape, and Picnic in the Vineyard. As a result, four winning projects have been selected, three of which will be installed in Logroo, while the fourth will be part of the Romanian Design Week in Bucharest.Below, all the winning projects that will be showcased at Concntrico 2025.Objects in the City:Recycling the Ecology of Abad (Iker Abad Aguirre, Jon Abad Aguirre) SpainSave this picture! This project proposes, through design, new ways of relating to non-human ecosystems in cities. It questions the hegemonic approach of the circular economy and suggests alternative methods of being ecological, moving away from utilitarianism and anthropocentrism. Inspired by the symbiosis between living beings, it creates elements that interact with existing urban objects to form new holobionts, avoiding the need for new supports and highlighting the abundance of the built environment. In this way, the design adopts a hybrid and relational dimension, prioritizing interaction over aesthetics.Me Apunto! by Studio An-An (Zixuan Luo, Bella Wu) United States (Bucharest)Save this picture!Save this picture!Me Apunto! is a proposal that strengthens the connection between pedestrians and urban trees through modular benches designed to integrate with them. These adaptable seats transform trees into companions for passersby, encouraging daily interactions with nature. By emphasizing participation and companionship in public spaces, the initiative aims to revive the emotional bond with the city and its green ecosystems.Third Landscape:The Battle of the Borneo Planetary Gardener (Antonio De Paola, Flavio Mancuso, Antonio Seghini) GermanySave this picture!Save this picture! This project is inspired by Gilles Clments concept of the planetary garden, where humanity takes on the role of gardener and custodian of biodiversity. The city is presented as a key space to explore new ways of inhabiting and caring for the environment. The installation, conceived as a veranda of the planetary gardener, transforms an urban void into a Third Landscape enclave, promoting the conservation of biodiversity and its role in mitigating climate change. Through play and participation, it invites visitors to reflect on their responsibility in preserving the planet. At the end of the experience, it aims to foster renewed awareness and collective commitment to a more sustainable and inclusive future.Picnic in the Vineyard:Earth Cooking by JMBAD (Joseph Melka, Balthazar Auguste-Dormeuil) FranceSave this picture!Save this picture!Earth Cooking is an interactive installation that blends gastronomy, craftsmanship, and sustainability in a communal space. Participants mold their own ceramics using local clay, which then becomes the vessel for a communal meal prepared on-site. Inspired by ancient culinary traditions, the project renews the connection with the earth and promotes a circular cycle where the ceramics return to the soil after use. More than just a gastronomic experience, Earth Cooking celebrates local production and craftsmanship, blurring the lines between creator, cook, and diner, and fostering the value of making and sharing together.Discover the other submitted and finalist projects, as well as more information about the Concntrico Festival, here.Image gallerySee allShow lessAbout this authorPaula PintosAuthorCite: Pintos, Paula. Previously owned by Victorian Architect Allan Powell; this building was known as the office of Powell & Glenn Architects. Our project brief was not to add amenities but rather to convert a former office into a family home.Save this picture!Save this picture!During construction, the existing roof revealed its problematic leaks, and the scope of the building works grew to include an entirely new slate roof, the refurbishment of both chimneys, and a re-rendering of the faade. All restoration works were done in accordance with Heritage Victoria guidelines and ensured the preservation of the significant building. The street frontage is particularly unique with Powell's 'Crigan House' to the left and the Valma, an art deco block of flats to the right. During construction, we became aware of the St Kilda Heritage walking tour, which occurs every Wednesday. The tour highlights these three properties and was another reminder of our project's historical significance.Save this picture! We reused the bricks and predominately maintained the existing footprint whilst reinterpreting the non-original 'lean-to'. The living is arranged around a central garden which is experienced upon entry and throughout spaces within the house. As the old accepts the new, the new will become less prominent, and we envision the newly built walls will soon be covered in ivy. We hope that the house will be 'better' with age, 'better with the ivy.'Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The link between the old and new is perhaps the most important element of the alterations. A combination of our client's appreciation of the ivy and the design challenge of a south-facing backyard brewed the glass link. On reflection it's difficult to imagine the project without this link and without the light - the feeling would be completely different.Save this picture!Save this picture!Throughout the house are elements of surprise.
