Federal workers appear to be split on Trump's return-to-office executive order.A Washington Post-Ipsos survey found that 49% of federal workers back the order while 50% oppose it.The order had long been a priority for Trump, who is working to pare down the federal workforce.Federal workers appear to be split on President Donald Trump's return-to-office mandate, a new survey found. The survey, conducted by Washington Post-Ipsos, showed that 49% of current civilian federal workers support Trump's executive order. About 50% oppose the measure, which mandates that workers come into the office full-time.For many workers accustomed to COVID-era working arrangements, the need to now commute has disrupted their work-life balance. Some workers say they have arrived at offices starved for workspaces. Others have lamented the financial costs of the return-to-office order, especially for those who moved away from the Washington area because of their ability to telework.Overall, 95% of the more than 600 civilian federal workers polled said they were proud of their work from the past five years. Almost 90% of respondents said their respective agency has been a "good" place to work, while 11% said it has been "bad."However, with the new administration has come shifting attitudes. Only 67% of respondents said their agency would now be a good place to work, while 31% felt the opposite. The poll also found that 57% of current federal workers believe Trump's executive actions to remake the government are illegal. More than 40% said the president's executive actions are legal.Trump's return-to-office mandate and broader cost-cutting efforts from Elon Musk and the White House DOGE office have roiled much of the federal workforce in Washington as well as many federal employees who work far away from the nation's capital. Most federal workers don't work in the DC area, but they have a disproportionate impact on the region's economy, given the plethora of departments headquartered in the city and the services and businesses that those workers support.Musk himself has been highly critical of remote work in the federal government, extending his corporate philosophy, which he is well-known for among employees at Tesla and X, to the government.

  • My husband and I met thanks to a wardrobe mishap

2025-03-22T22:56:02Z Read in app The author and her husband have been together for almost 20 years. Courtesy of the author This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Become an Insider and start reading now.Have an account? I've always preferred brutal honesty, so I told a total stranger that his fly was down. He bought me a beer and a corndog, but I wasn't looking for a relationship. We've been together for almost 20 years now. "Your fly is down." That's the first thing I ever said to my now-husband. In my defense, even though I didn't know him, he was talking with two other people I did know. Also, I'm the kind of person who wants people to tell me when I have food in my teeth. I prefer brutal honesty over silent embarrassment. He thanked me and offered to buy me a drink for my kindness. "I'd rather have a corndog," I countered. Mortified doesn't begin to describe what I probably should've felt. I had just told a guy his fly was down and that I wanted a corndog as a thank you. But when he offered to buy me both and his eyes lingered on mine, I suspected he might like me, and my mortification slipped away.I wasn't looking for a relationshipFresh out of a relationship, I had just promised myself that morning that I would not get involved with anyone new for at least a few months. We were at a local band concert in a small venue, and the corndog in question was at the restaurant next door. So, I told him maybe later on the food and drink. He told me to find him whenever I wanted to collect my thank you, that he would be ready. We parted ways, me back to my group of friends and he to his. I thought that would be the end of things, but when I went to leave after the show, he saw me and asked if I was ready for the drink he owed me. I don't remember what words I stumbled through, some version of "you don't have to do that, really." But a few minutes after I slid onto a bar stool next door, there he was next to me.We sat side-by-side at the bar, ordered beers and corndogs as promised, and started a conversation that lasted until the wee hours of the night. People came and went, the music pulsed around us, but nothing interrupted the comfortable intimacy building between us.It was the start of an endless conversationIt didn't matter what we talked about (and our topics covered the gamut from banal details to deeper thoughts); the conversation was easy. One topic was that he was sure he would be a lifelong bachelor but wished that wasn't the truth. His ex-girlfriend was at the show, and it made him think perhaps he'd made a mistake with their break-up. I told him that I thought he was too caught up on the wrong thing, and I was sure he'd find someone if he wanted. As our conversation stretched into the night, we discovered something surprising we weren't strangers after all. One of my good friends had been cutting his hair for nearly a decade. I knew his last roommate. Our social circles overlapped in a dozen ways, yet somehow, we had never really met. Or so I thought. Then he said, "So, where is your curly-haired boyfriend?"It turned out this wasn't our first meeting. We had actually met twice before, also at concerts. He remembered. I didn't. And as I explained that my boyfriend and I had recently broken up, I watched his expression shift. I could see the exact moment he realized he wished he hadn't mentioned his ex-girlfriend earlier in our conversation.I never doubted his interest in meAs the night ended, he asked for my number and then texted me before I made the five-minute ride home. He wanted me to know, without a doubt, that he was interested in seeing me again whenever I was ready. We went on our first date two days later and never stopped dating.Nearly two decades, three cities, three children, and plenty of life's ups and downs later, we're still building on that same connection we felt that night. Throughout it all, my husband has been steady and unwavering. In our early dating days, my friends used to wish he had a sibling; these days, they jokingly call us "relationship goals." And I couldn't agree more.A loose zipper and a real-life meet-cute led me to a life more perfect than I could have imagined. It turns out that sometimes love is like the movies just with better snacks.

Video game makers should bring back the best feature of the Xbox 360 Readers FeatureGameCentralPublished March 23, 2025 1:00am Not every Xbox 360 innovation caught on (Microsoft)A reader calls for one of the more forgotten aspects of the Xbox 360 era to be brought back, and help gamers get a better idea of what a games like before they buy it.I dont think theres any real answer to what is the best generation of video game consoles. It all depends on not only your age but what you were doing at that time in your life. The Xbox 360 era was a very happy time for me, so maybe that influences my positive feelings about, but I think theres more to it than that. The release of the Xbox 360 feels like the start of the modern era, in terms of digital downloads and online, and while that was always inevitable it only happened as soon as it did thanks to Microsoft. Which together with things like achievements is the sort of innovation thats been so lacking from them lately, especially in terms of things that Sony are then forced to adopt themselves to keep up.Backwards compatibility is the only similar things since then, but there is one feature of the Xbox 360 that I sorely miss and which I find no one seems to talk about. Perhaps theyve forgotten but back in the day it was a rule from Microsoft that every game, no matter what it was, had to have a demo. I miss that and I wish theyd bring it back. The reason that Microsoft changed the rules behind demos is that publishers found that if people played a demo they were actually less likely to buy the game. I dont think they ever explained why that was, but I think the assumption was that with games people were on the fence about, or couldnt really afford, they felt theyd already played it to some degree and so it was skippable.I kind of get that but it still seems a bit strange to me, since surely people wouldve liked some of the games they demoed, enough to buy the whole thing. Although I guess were talking averages here.By the end of the Xbox 360s life the rule had been taken away and demos were up to a publisher and most chose not to do them. The thing is, that was 15 years ago now and a lot has changed about gaming. There are less big name games overall and we learn very little about them before theyre released. Some arent properly announced until a few months until theyre out and they often get little or no hands-on previews from websites. At the time the Xbox 360 was getting demos for every game we knew a lot about them, through previews and interviews and often a good year or so of hype before its released. That is bound to affect how people viewed the demos.Maybe, after all that build-up, they thought the demo was a letdown, whereas now theyd be more wowed because they didnt even know what the game was until they started playing it. Indie games have got more expensive nowadays so demos for them are a lot more important than they used to be, and often its even less clear what an indie game is until you try it.Publishers must value demos to some degree because theyll often do beta tests for multiplayer games. These are usually released so close to the games release I cant believe they are at all useful in working out technical problems, let alone whether people liked it or not. Theyre just demos with a degree of plausible deniability if theres something wrong with it.More TrendingSony certainly didnt take any notice of everyone saying they hated Concord, and it came out anyway and, well you know the rest. So why not release demos for every game and then not only can people understand better what your games are, but companies can get advanced warning of a problem. Whether they choose to pay any attention to it or not is their business.By reader Cyclops Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a demo on PS5 (Square Enix)The readers features do not necessarily represent the views of GameCentral or Metro. You can submit your own 500 to 600-word reader feature at any time, which if used will be published in the next appropriate weekend slot. In the landscape of the old leather street, the cycle of leather consumption turned large and quick. The expressions of the merchants who have maintained their place until today carry a serious emotion, recalling the old prosperity and explaining the differences between that era and the present. While new materials are rapidly emerging and changes are occurring in modern society, there are still limits to leather become a culture all generations can enjoy.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! To more intuitively convey the beauty and value of leather, the space was designed around the history and characteristics of leather, and stories were created through collaboration with local merchants. Additionally, to present a dessert-themed around leather, we propose a new type of space where both desserts and the environment can be experienced simultaneously, going beyond the existing caf culture. During the day, visitors can enjoy desserts and relax, while at night, they can watch the process of cocktails being made, creating a space where day and night are organically connected.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! This space focuses on the unique characteristics of leather and the authenticity of the space, allowing people to have a special experience within it. Through this space, we hope to help people re-recognize the leather street and its value and create an environment where people can more easily interact with leather. Furthermore, through a new culture called 'Gat,' we expect to establish a culture where leather is consumed more naturally within modern sensibilities.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Sungin-dong, Seoul, South KoreaLocation to be used only as a reference.
