  • We Couldve Had An Interactive Social Hub By Valve That Is Nothing Like Facebook
    cgshares.com
ValveSteam was launched twenty-two years ago, in 2003. But before that, its creator, Gabe Newell, had some other pretty interesting ideas in mind, which are not related to software or games. One of them is a social hub, according to Monica Harrington, one of Valves founders and the companys first Chief Marketing Officer. In an interview with PC Gamer at GDC, she recalled those ideas from over two decades ago, around 1998 to the early 2000s.One of them that just struck mebecause this was not in a games context at allan interactive social hub Im trying to remember some of the conversations we had at that time, but he was not talking about, like the community that exists on Steam or anything like that, she said.During that timeframe, many of the social apps that changed the lives of our generation started to appear: Myspace launched in 2003, followed by Facebook in 2004, Twitter in 2006, Tumblr in 2007, and Instagram in 2010.Apparently, their vision that the Internet could be an incredibly social place was quite advanced at that time, because people werent thinking about the psychology and the social aspects of it.Where Gabes mind was going [was] about expanding that social element, but not in a gaming context I think it probably wouldnt have looked anything like Facebook or what happened, but yeah. But that idea was abandoned and never came to life. Valves effort has evolved into a beloved PC gaming platform with user-friendly policies and features, and over 40 million players played on the platform simultaneously. The creator co-founded Starfishin 2022, a neural interface company that is working on brain-computer solutions.Join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post We Couldve Had An Interactive Social Hub By Valve That Is Nothing Like Facebook appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • Atomfall Review - Bunker Thrill
    www.gamespot.com
Atomfall is not Fallout. The comparison has been a popular one, but the developers wanted to make it clear that this new IP from the creators of Sniper Elite is "its own thing for sure," and they're right. It is. But there are times when the similarities jump off the screen. Both focus on a post-apocalyptic world full of mutants, warring factions, and--most relatable of all--they both feature a sprawling locked bunker at the heart of their stories. But where the inciting incident in most Fallout games is escaping that bunker, Atomfall asks you to get inside its mysterious facility, The Interchange. It's in that simply stated objective that Atomfall's open-ended world design elevates the game to be something different and interesting in its own right, even as things like stealth and combat drag it down at times.Just as Atomfall's major brushstrokes are derivative of Fallout and other post-apocalyptic fiction, its story starts with a similar penchant for the cliche. You awaken as an amnesiac in a 1950s-set British countryside. A nearby phone booth rings, and the voice on the other side demands you destroy someone or something called "Oberon." That same voice will call back nearly each time you approach a phone booth in the wild. The cryptic messages don't make a bit of sense, but it does swiftly push you toward your objective: Find and get inside The Interchange, a locked-down facility of some sort that seems to have been the site of a science experiment gone wrong. In there, Oberon can perish, if you so choose. The region's people have been left to put the pieces back together following this event, and it's resulted in the forming of several opposing groups, such as the military force that claims authority, roaming bandits who use the chaos as an invitation to resort to lawlessness, and a cult of pagans who believe the catastrophe was good, actually. These territorial factions are often isolated to their own regions, which are experienced as a series of open-world maps that can be explored without limitations as soon as you start the game.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The patch notes are on the lighter side, despite some of the large file sizes, but Update 1.0.1 for Assassin's Creed Shadows includes better stabilization and fixes for the game's photo mode.According to the patch notes, the main highlight of Update 1.0.1 is fixing problems with the photo mode on PlayStation 5 and PC. This hotfix addresses a crash that could happen for PS5 users when fetching photos to display on the world map, and it fixes an issue that previously could cause a crash when taking a photo on PC.The small update also makes global game-stability improvements across all platforms, and the download size for each platform can be seen below.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Xenoblade Chronicles X's Combat is Way Better With This Targeting Setting
    gamerant.com
Xenoblade Chronicles X features an engaging combat system that requires players to constantly change their position, monitor the cooldowns of their Arts, complete timing-based events, and more. This can be a lot to keep up with, and players may occasionally find that they have attacked an unintended target while attempting to maximize their efficacy in battle. Fortunately, there is a setting that can prevent such an accident from occurring, and it can make combat in Xenoblade Chronicles Xfeel way less frustrating.

  • Fortnite finally brings back a fan-favorite mode, but its filled with bots
    www.polygon.com
Fortnite fans have been waiting for the return of its original 50v50 limited-time mode (LTM) for years, but the renewed version is reportedly full of more bots than real players. In 50v50, two teams of 50 players fight to be the last ones standing on the original Fortnite map at least thats the pitch. In reality, the 50-player teams arent all real players. There are AI-controlled bots mixed in presumably to help balance games and keep queue times low, but seasoned players arent happy about it.Thats ridiculous. I was hoping Id be able to re-experience how it was back in the day somewhat where youd win a game being last alive against like 10 players or more, Reddit user Zenith_Atom wrote in a thread about the bot problem. Now looks like its gunna be 10v10 Players VS 40v40 AI Bots. Made the comeback of the LTM pointless.half the team in 50v50 is bots this brings me immense painmight as well be 25v25 at that point pic.twitter.com/msul4bkxTq bee (@BeeYourseIves) March 25, 2025Bots are typically a way for developers to onboard new players with easier opponents as they learn the game. Marvel Rivals will put you against teams of bots when you first start playing, for example. But theyre also used to quickly fill empty slots so youre not waiting too long for a match, especially in games like Fortnite where there are tons of different modes to play. While casual players might not notice the difference between a real player and a bot, seasoned Fortnite players can sniff them out from a mile away. To them, it trivializes matches and ruins the spirit of a mode like 50v50, which didnt originally have bots. And more practically: Bots can be a liability in a mode where the only way to respawn is to be revived by another player. Why should I bother trying to rez somebody if theyre just gonna be a bot and instantly die again? asked X user Ridiculous_Ties.The players most likely to be bummed out by bots are the ones who would be excited for 50v50 to come back in the first place, so it does seem like a risky choice. But I also doubt most people care as much as long-time players. Just like all the technically inaccurate changes in Blizzards World of Warcraft remake World of Warcraft Classic, it might not be feasible to perfectly recreate Fortnites original 50v50 mode without introducing new problems. This might be the best we get.Fortnite OG Chapter 1 Season 3s 50v50 mode will stick around until April 14.
