• Here Are the Attack Plans That Trumps Advisers Shared on Signal

PoliticsHere Are the Attack Plans That Trumps Advisers Shared on SignalThe administration has downplayed the importance of the text messages inadvertently sent to The Atlantics editor in chief.Andrew Harnik / GettyMarch 26, 2025, 8:19 AM ET So, about that Signal chat.On Monday, shortly after we published a story about a massive Trump-administration security breach, a reporter asked the secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, why he had shared plans about a forthcoming attack on Yemen on the Signal messaging app. He answered, Nobody was texting war plans. And thats all I have to say about that.At a Senate hearing yesterday, the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, were both asked about the Signal chat, to which Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, was inadvertently invited by National Security Adviser Michael Waltz. There was no classified material that was shared in that Signal group, Gabbard told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee.Ratcliffe said much the same: My communications, to be clear, in the Signal message group were entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information.President Donald Trump, asked yesterday afternoon about the same matter, said, It wasnt classified information. These statements presented us with a dilemma. In The Atlantics initial story about the Signal chatthe Houthi PC small group, as it was named by Waltzwe withheld specific information related to weapons and to the timing of attacks that we found in certain texts. As a general rule, we do not publish information about military operations if that information could possibly jeopardize the lives of U.S. personnel. That is why we chose to characterize the nature of the information being shared, not specific details about the attacks.Read: The Trump administration accidentally texted me its war plansThe statements by Hegseth, Gabbard, Ratcliffe, and Trumpcombined with the assertions made by numerous administration officials that we are lying about the content of the Signal textshave led us to believe that people should see the texts in order to reach their own conclusions. There is a clear public interest in disclosing the sort of information that Trump advisers included in nonsecure communications channels, especially because senior administration figures are attempting to downplay the significance of the messages that were shared.Experts have repeatedly told us that use of a Signal chat for such sensitive discussions poses a threat to national security. As a case in point, Goldberg received information on the attacks two hours before the scheduled start of the bombing of Houthi positions. If this informationparticularly the exact times American aircraft were taking off for Yemenhad fallen into the wrong hands in that crucial two-hour period, American pilots and other American personnel could have been exposed to even greater danger than they ordinarily would face. The Trump administration is arguing that the military information contained in these texts was not classifiedas it typically would bealthough the president has not explained how he reached this conclusion.Yesterday, we asked officials across the Trump administration if they objected to us publishing the full texts. In emails to the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Council, the Department of Defense, and the White House, we wrote, in part: In light of statements today from multiple administration officials, including before the Senate Intelligence Committee, that the information in the Signal chain about the Houthi strike is not classified, and that it does not contain war plans, The Atlantic is considering publishing the entirety of the Signal chain. We sent our first request for comment and feedback to national-security officials shortly after noon, and followed up in the evening after most failed to answer.Late yesterday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emailed a response: As we have repeatedly stated, there was no classified information transmitted in the group chat. However, as the CIA Director and National Security Advisor have both expressed today, that does not mean we encourage the release of the conversation. This was intended to be a an [sic] internal and private deliberation amongst high-level senior staff and sensitive information was discussed. So for those reason [sic] yes, we object to the release. (The Leavitt statement did not address which elements of the texts the White House considered sensitive, or how, more than a week after the initial air strikes, their publication could have bearing on national security.)A CIA spokesperson asked us to withhold the name of John Ratcliffes chief of staff, which Ratcliffe had shared in the Signal chain, because CIA intelligence officers are traditionally not publicly identified. Ratcliffe had testified earlier yesterday that the officer is not undercover and said it was completely appropriate to share their name in the Signal conversation. We will continue to withhold the name of the officer. Otherwise, the messages are unredacted.Listen: Jeffrey Goldberg on the group chat that broke the internetAs we wrote on Monday, much of the conversation in the Houthi PC small group concerned the timing and rationale of attacks on the Houthis, and contained remarks by Trump-administration officials about the alleged shortcomings of Americas European allies. But on the day of the attackSaturday, March 15the discussion veered toward the operational. At 11:44 a.m. eastern time, Hegseth posted in the chat, in all caps, TEAM UPDATE:The text beneath this began, TIME NOW (1144et): Weather is FAVORABLE. Just CONFIRMED w/CENTCOM we are a GO for mission launch. Centcom, or Central Command, is the militarys combatant command for the Middle East. The Hegseth text continues:1215et: F-18s LAUNCH (1st strike package) 1345: Trigger Based F-18 1st Strike Window Starts (Target Terrorist is @ his Known Location so SHOULD BE ON TIME also, Strike Drones Launch (MQ-9s)Let us pause here for a moment to underscore a point. This Signal message shows that the U.S. secretary of defense texted a group that included a phone number unknown to himGoldbergs cellphoneat 11:44 a.m. This was 31 minutes before the first U.S. warplanes launched, and two hours and one minute before the beginning of a period in which a primary target, the Houthi Target Terrorist, was expected to be killed by these American aircraft. If this text had been received by someone hostile to American interestsor someone merely indiscreet, and with access to social mediathe Houthis would have had time to prepare for what was meant to be a surprise attack on their strongholds. The consequences for American pilots could have been catastrophic. The Hegseth text then continued:1410: More F-18s LAUNCH (2nd strike package) 1415: Strike Drones on Target (THIS IS WHEN THE FIRST BOMBS WILL DEFINITELY DROP, pending earlier Trigger Based targets) 1536 F-18 2nd Strike Starts also, first sea-based Tomahawks launched. MORE TO FOLLOW (per timeline) We are currently clean on OPSECthat is, operational security. Godspeed to our Warriors.Shortly after, Vice President J. D. Vance texted the group, I will say a prayer for victory. At 1:48 p.m., Waltz sent the following text, containing real-time intelligence about conditions at an attack site, apparently in Sanaa: VP. Building collapsed. Had multiple positive ID. Pete, Kurilla, the IC, amazing job. Waltz was referring here to Hegseth; General Michael E. Kurilla, the commander of Central Command; and the intelligence community, or IC. The reference to multiple positive ID suggests that U.S. intelligence had ascertained the identities of the Houthi target, or targets, using either human or technical assets.Six minutes later, the vice president, apparently confused by Waltzs message, wrote, What?At 2 p.m., Waltz responded: Typing too fast. The first target their top missile guy we had positive ID of him walking into his girlfriends building and its now collapsed.Vance responded a minute later: Excellent. Thirty-five minutes after that, Ratcliffe, the CIA director, wrote, A good start, which Waltz followed with a text containing a fist emoji, an American-flag emoji, and a fire emoji. The Houthi-run Yemeni health ministry reported that at least 53 people were killed in the strikes, a number that has not been independently verified.Later that afternoon, Hegseth posted: CENTCOM was/is on point. Notably, he then told the group that attacks would be continuing. Great job all. More strikes ongoing for hours tonight, and will provide full initial report tomorrow. But on time, on target, and good readouts so far.It is still unclear why a journalist was added to the text exchange. Waltz, who invited Goldberg into the Signal chat, said yesterday that he was investigating how the heck he got into this room.Explore More Topics

  • Amazon launches personalized shopping prompts as part of its generative AI push
    techcrunch.com
Amazon continues to infuse AI into its shopping tools to encourage customers to make more purchases. The company announced on Wednesday a new feature called Interests, aimed at creating a more personalized and conversational search experience. With the new feature, customers can enter tailored prompts in the search bar, reflecting their interests, preferences, and even their budget. For example, users might ask for model building kits and accessories for hobbyist engineers or brewing tools and gadgets for coffee lovers.Interests leverages large language models (LLMs) to convert everyday language into queries that traditional search engines can understand, resulting in more relevant product suggestions.Additionally, the tool continuously works in the background, notifying users when new items that match their interests become available, as well as providing updates on relevant products, restocks, and deals.Currently, Interests is available to a select group of users in the U.S. via the Amazon Shopping app on iOS and Android devices, as well as on the mobile website under the Me tab.The company plans to expand access to more U.S. customers in the coming months. The Interests feature represents a natural progression for the tech giant as it continues to integrate AI into its app. The feature joins a host of AI-powered features already on Amazon, including its AI shopping assistant Rufus, AI Shopping Guides, review summaries, AI-generated product information, and more.Plus, several other companies are likely to follow suit in order to enhance the shopping experience for customers, and some have already begun to do so.For instance, Google has recently upgraded its Shopping tab, introducing a Vision Match tool that allows shoppers to describe a garment they envision, with the AI suggesting similar ideas based on the description. It also launched an AI summary tool to provide product information.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures | Nic Lehoux, Academy Museum FoundationOpened in 2021, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has become a significant landmark in Los Angeles cultural landscape, seamlessly blending historic preservation with bold contemporary design. Located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue within the Miracle Mile, the museum comprises the restored 1939 May Company Building (now the Saban Building) and the Sphere Building, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop in collaboration with Gensler and SPF:a. This architectural dialogue between the past and the future mirrors the evolving narrative of cinema itself. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Technical InformationArchitects1-26: RPBW | Renzo Piano Building WorkshopArchitect of Record: GenslerCollaborating Architect: SPF:aLocation: Los Angeles, California, USAClient: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)Area: 23,225 m2 | 250,000 sq. ft.Project Year: 2012 2021Photographs: Nic Lehoux | Academy Museum FoundationThe Academy Museum gives us the opportunity to honor the past while creating a building for the futurein fact, for the possibility of many futures. Originally designed as a department store in 1939, the building embodies the optimism of pre-war American modernism with its iconic golden mosaic-tiled cylindrical corner. Renzo Pianos intervention respects this legacy, restoring the faade while adapting the structure to house over 50,000 square feet of exhibition space. The removal of post-1946 additions allowed the building to regain its original form while accommodating contemporary museum functions.Inside, the architectural language is one of continuity and fluidity, ensuring that the exhibition spaces retain a sense of openness. The adaptation prioritizes natural light, reactivating the buildings relationship with the street and inviting visitors into an immersive experience that unfolds through a sequence of spatial transitions.Contrasting the historical solidity of the Saban Building, the Sphere Building embodies movement, lightness, and innovation. Elevated on four reinforced concrete piers, this volume houses the 1,000-seat David Geffen Theater, a space dedicated to the cinematic experience. The spheres glass and steel structure creates a sense of levitation, reinforcing the ethereal quality of film as an art form.Piano describes the design as an imaginary voyage through space and time, a metaphor that aligns with the cinematic experience. Visitors transition from the galleries of the Saban Building into the theater through a carefully choreographed sequence, creating a spatial journey that echoes the narrative structure of film. The Dolby Family Terrace, located atop the Sphere, provides a visual and conceptual pause, offering panoramic views of Hollywood, a symbolic reference to the origins of cinema.Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Structural InnovationThe Sphere Building is an engineering feat that demanded innovative structural solutions. Designed with Buro Happold as a structural engineer, the buildings primary support system consists of four massive concrete piers, allowing the sphere to maintain its floating appearance. The theater enclosures glass-supported steel framework provides transparency and lightness, reinforcing the interplay between materiality and form. The museums material choices reflect its dual identity. The Saban Buildings limestone and golden mosaic tiles preserve the texture of history, while the Spheres steel and glass look toward the future of architecture. This contrast is not simply aesthetic but programmatic, emphasizing the museums role in bridging past narratives with future cinematic explorations. The interior materiality follows a similar conceptual approach. While the restored historic building embraces warm, textured finishes, the Sphere incorporates high-performance acoustic materials designed in collaboration with Arup North America and Jaffe Holden, ensuring an unparalleled cinematic experience.Urban and Cultural Context: Reinventing the Miracle MileThe Academy Museums design is not merely about form but about creating urban engagement. The project opens onto Wilshire Boulevard, connecting with Los Angeles broader cultural institutions, such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and the Petersen Automotive Museum. The outdoor piazza, an essential design component, extends the museums influence beyond its walls, creating a public space that fosters interaction and cultural exchange. The museum integrates sustainable design strategies, ensuring long-term environmental resilience. Atelier Tens sustainability consultancy played a crucial role in optimizing energy efficiency, passive ventilation, and daylighting strategies. The adaptive reuse of the May Company Building is itself a statement on sustainability, preserving embodied carbon while reducing demolition waste.Additionally, the faade engineering by Knippers Helbig and Simpson Gumpertz & Hegers waterproofing expertise ensure the buildings longevity in response to Los Angeles climate conditions. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures PlansSite Plan | RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop ArchitectsFloor Plan | RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop ArchitectsSection | Piano, RenzoSketch | Piano, RenzoThe Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Image GalleryAbout RPBWFounded in 1981 by Renzo Piano, the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) is an internationally acclaimed architectural firm known for its innovative, context-sensitive designs that merge technology, materiality, and environmental consciousness. Online document conversion sites have been a lifesaver, whether you need to turn a PDF into an editable document, convert a PPT into a PDF or open a lesser-known file format. Most of these sites are free and deliver quick results, but many also pose serious privacy risks. When you upload your documents, youre essentially handing them over to a service with no obligation to protect them. Now, the FBI is warning that some free online document converters go a step further by loading malware onto your computer. These malicious sites complete the conversion but also silently install malware on your device.STAY PROTECTED & INFORMED! These malicious tools can lead to serious incidents, including ransomware attacks.Hackers worldwide are exploiting any type of free document converter or downloader tool to carry out this scheme. The scam may involve websites that promise to convert files, such as turning a .doc into a .pdf, or tools that claim to merge multiple images into a single document. Some even pose as MP3 or MP4 downloaders. While these tools perform the advertised task, the resulting file may contain hidden malware, giving attackers access to the victims computer.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?These tools can also extract sensitive information from submitted files, including personal details like Social Security numbers, dates of birth and phone numbers. They may also harvest banking details, cryptocurrency data such as seed phrases and wallet addresses, as well as email addresses and passwords."Unfortunately, many victims dont realize they have been infected by malware until its too late, and their computer is infected with ransomware or their identity has been stolen," the feds note. Use official conversion tools:Instead of relying on random online tools, download and use reputable document conversion software provided by reputable companies like Adobe Acrobat, LibreOffice or Microsoft Office. These programs let you convert files securely without exposing your data to potential threats.2. Check the websites reputation:Before using an online converter, research the site. Look for reviews and see if cybersecurity forums or sources have flagged it as unsafe. If the site lacks basic security measures, avoid it.3. Avoid downloading executable files:If an online document converter provides an .exe, .bat or .scr file instead of a standard document format, do not download or run it. Legitimate converters should only generate files like .pdf, .docx or .png, not executables that could contain malware.4. Scan files after conversion: Even if you use a trusted converter, always scan the converted file with up-to-datestrong antivirus software before opening it.5. Check file permissions: After conversion, verify that the new file doesn't have unexpected permissions or properties that could indicate malware.6. Create backups and enable ransomware protection:Regularlyback up important documents on an external drive or a secure cloud service. Some security suites, like Microsoft Defender, offer ransomware protection features that prevent unauthorized changes to your files.7. Be cautious of browser extensions: Avoid installing browser extensions for file conversion, as these can often be browser hijackers or adware.8. Consider paid services: If you frequently need to convert files, invest in a reputable paid service that offers better security and privacy protection.9. Use cloud-based solutions: Consider using cloud-based productivity suites that offer built-in conversion tools, reducing the need for third-party converters.Kurts key takeawayThe convenience of free online tools often blinds us to the risks they carry. Many users assume that if a website looks professional or ranks high on Google, it must be safe. Cybercriminals understand this mindset and take full advantage of it.The real issue is not just malware-laced converters but the habit of trading security for convenience without a second thought. The internet is filled with services that appear free but come at the hidden cost of stolen data, financial fraud or compromised devices. Instead of trusting every tool that offers an easy solution, it is important to think critically about what we are giving away whenever we upload a file or click a download button.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPDo you verify the reputation of websites before uploading sensitive files? • More than 200 Lloyds bank bosses to receive artificial intelligence training
    www.computerweekly.com
Lloyds Banking Group is training 200 of its senior leaders to ensure the organisation can get the most out of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The bank is working with training provider Cambridge Spark on the programme, which will embed AI skills in the leadership ranks.Participants of the programme will receive training in an 80-hour programme, known as Leading with AI, delivered by Cambridge Spark alongside experts from Cambridge University.Ron van Kemenade, chief operating officer at Lloyds Banking Group, said: AI is a game-changer for financial services, and were investing to enhance our services with cutting-edge technology. The programme with Cambridge Spark will empower our business leaders to further innovate with AI and drive commercial excellence using this transformative technology. Our approach to AI is based on integrating it deeply throughout every aspect of our business rather than limiting it to a centralised technical team. Were building on our existing expertise to develop the most AI-capable leadership team in banking.Lloyds Bank has also made investments in AI training beyond senior leaders with a Data & AI Academy, GenAI Masterclasses and a Data & AI Summer School available to all its employees. It has worked with Cambridge Spark before on a graduate bootcamp focused on practical industry skills for emerging data scientists and data engineers. For the senior leaders, the Leading with AI programme will focus on areas including identifying transformational opportunities for AI and spearheading its implementation.Raoul-Gabriel Urma, CEO at Cambridge Spark, said that embedding AI know-how at the top of organisations is vital: Advancing AI capabilities represents both the greatest challenge and opportunity for todays businesses. Enhancing these capabilities in senior leadership creates a powerful multiplier effect that drives innovation throughout the organisation. The Bank of England and the FCA have been tracking how financial services firms in the UK are using AI and machine learning. The results of its recent survey, which covered 120 firms, found that three-quarters are already using some form of AI in their operations. This included all the large UK and international banks, insurers and asset managers that responded, and represented a 53% increase on the same survey in 2022.There will be challenges for senior bank leaders who must understand the risks that AI poses as well as its benefits, as they will be expected to work within regulatory regimes.During an international financial conference in October, Sarah Breeden, deputy governor of financial stability at the Bank of England, said that regulation must stay ahead of AI take-up.She said this will help us to understand more deeply not only AIs potential benefits, but also the different approaches firms are taking to managing those risks which could amount to financial stability risks. The regulator will then try to spread best practices and decide when regulatory guidelines and guardrails are needed. The power and use of AI is growing fast, and we mustnt be complacent, said Breeden. We know from past experience with technological innovation in other sectors of the economy that its hard to retrospectively address risks once usage reaches systemic scale.Read more about GenAIMany organisations are testing out uses for generative AI, but how are they getting on? • 4 Day Week Foundation launches tech sector pilot

The nine-to-five, five-day working week was invented 100 years ago and no longer suits the realities of modern life. We are long overdue an update Sam Hunt, 4 Day Week FoundationAs hundreds of British companies have already shown, a four-day, 32-hour working week with no loss of pay can be a win-win for workers and employers. The nine-to-five, five-day working week was invented 100 years ago and no longer suits the realities of modern life. We are long overdue an update. In January 2025, the 4 Day Week Foundation announced that over 200 companies in the UK have permanently adopted a reduced hours four-day week with no loss of pay for more than 5,000 employees, with the vast majority working 32 hours a week or less. Of these, 24 companies are from the technology, IT and software sector.According to Sian Herrington, CEO of IT firm Noteworthy Support one of the companies supporting the pilot programme four-day weeks have been a game-changer for the firm, which implemented the practice at its inception in 2018.Its not just about giving our team more personal time its about creating a culture that values efficiency, well-being and balance, she said.Weve seen consistently high productivity, engagement and overall job satisfaction. Adopting this model has helped us attract top talent and reinforced our belief that happier teams build better businesses. We will always offer a four-day working week to our team.In December 2024, learning technology firm Thrive took part in the UKs first medical trial of the four-day week, which saw researchers at the University of Sussex collect data on 115 Thrive employees between July and October 2024, including MRI scans, blood tests and sleep tracking, as well as weekly questionnaires covering their workplace experiences and well-being.According to the results, there were notable improvements in a number of employee well-being metrics particularly those related to stress levels, sleep quality and detachment from work indicating a significant improvement in work-life balance. Researchers concluded that, overall, the shorter hours led to happier, more productive staff. In November 2023, the think tank Autonomy a supporter of the 4 Day Week Foundation published a research paper that argued automating jobs with large language models (LLMs) could lead to significant reductions in working time without a loss of pay or productivity.Autonomy noted that although people have long beenpredicting and expectingfar shorter working weeks due to technological advances, historical increases in productivity over recent decades have not translated into increased wealth or leisure time for most people, largely as a result of economic inequality. However, it also said that realising the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven productivity gains in this way will require concerted political action, as these gains are not always shared evenly between employers and employees, and depend on geographic, demographics, economic cycle, and other intrinsic job market factors such as workers access to collective bargaining. This is a paper that identifies an opportunity and not a destiny. The actual diffusion and adoption of technology is always uneven, driven by a variety of factors: wage levels, government policy, levels of sector monopolisation, trade union density and so on, it said.Needless to say, widespread adoption of these new AI technologies will require a robust industrial strategy that traverses national, federal and municipal levels, and that deploys incentives and regulations for the private sector. Most importantly, workplace technologies are social and political technologies, and therefore worker voice those who will be working alongside and in collaboration with these tools will be essential.Read more about the four-day weekAfas leads the way with four-day work week in the Netherlands: Dutch labour unions want a shorter working week and software company Afas is leading the way, introducing a four-day work week from 1 January 2025.Four-day working week set to stay at Atom bank: Challenger bank Atom has formalised a four-day working week policy after a successful trial.Highgate IT Solutions trials four-day working week: Channel player Highgate IT Solutions is on the brink of a pilot to investigate if changes to the structure of work could benefit employees. In The Current Issue:Can a future digital NHS survive another change?Digital twins drive efficiency across machines and infrastructureDownload Current IssueWhat to expect from Qlik Connect 2025 CW Developer NetworkSLM series - Memgraph: The SLM-knowledge graph combo CW Developer NetworkView All Blogs
