• Grand Theft Auto 6s Release Might Lead to Developers and Publishers Delaying Their Games
    gamingbolt.com
While its no secret that Grand Theft Auto 6s release later this year will likely be a major event for the entire gaming industry, it looks like some developers and publishers might be vary about releasing their own games in the same time frame. Speaking to Christopher Dring of The Game Business, developers have said that they wont only have to compete with GTA 6 for money, but for time as well. This comes from the fact that GTA 6 is going to be a major open-world release with plenty of things for players to do. Considering the popularity of GTA 5 even 12 years after its original release, it is likely that players will be spending quite a bit of time with the newest game in the franchise.Rockstar games always suck a lot of money and, more importantly, time out of the market, said the head of one game publishing company to Dring. We dont want to be anywhere near that. We are working up multiple different plans for our titles. An exec followed this up by pointing out that free time from players is the main resource that they would be competing with against Rockstars next outing. Even without GTA its immensely difficult to find free time for new games to shine, said the exec. Time is the real scarcity for us, not money. Its tough out there.A fair bit of uncertainty for developers and publishers comes from the fact that GTA 6 still doesnt have a solid release date yet aside from a Fall 2025 release window. EA CEO Andrew Wilson, for instance, is considering pushing back the release of the next Battlefield game in order to not have to compete with GTA 6. This is to ensure that the company has the appropriate time, energy, and player acquisition opportunity for this Battlefield to be all that it needed to be.Another head of a publishing company, this time from Europe, also spoke about the uncertainty regarding GTA 6s release date. Speaking to Dring, the publisher talks about wanting to avoid releasing its games right before or after the release of GTA 6. This also puts the company into unenviable positions of having to compete with other Summer releases, or having to compete against games that would be going on sale during Black Friday. We dont want to launch just before or just after the game, they said. If it arrives in late October, that means you either have to launch early which a lot of people seem to be doing with the recent glut of summer release dates. Or go later, putting you up against the Black Friday sales. If we move out to 2025, what if Rockstar do, too? they continued. Will we have time to push our game up? Or will we have to delay further? Its stressful. The head of one development studio compared GTA 6 to a meteor that is on a crash course with the industry. The studio hopes to avoid being in the blast zone, but is also worried about other companies doing the same thing to ensure that their releases dont suffer under GTA 6s big shadow.GTA 6 is basically a huge meteor and we will just stay clear of the blast zone, said the studio head. We will nudge our releases back or forward three weeks to avoid it. Of course, the problem is everyone is going to do the same. So three to four weeks before or after GTA 6, youre going to get a load of games dropping content in what they believe will be the safe zone.Theres no point swimming against the current, said another developer. We just need to prepare to win players back once the excitement has started to die down.Others have a more optimistic outlook surrounding the release of GTA 6. Day of the Devs head curator Greg Rice spoke about the release of the game being a net positive for the industry in an interview during GDC. His opinion came down to the idea that GTA 6 will introduce new audiences to gaming, and these new players will ultimately start seeking out other games to play on their gaming systems.Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently under development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is no word yet on a PC release.

  • Microsoft revamps its Windows Game Bar
    www.theverge.com
Things are looking prettier. | Image: MicrosoftMicrosoft is sharing several new Xbox gaming updates for March that include a new look for Game Bar on PC, a new Cloud Gaming feature, and fresh benefits for playing some free-to-play games through Game Pass.Game Bar on PC, which gives you the ability to quickly launch games, control audio mixes, and monitor game performance, now comes with a cleaner UI. The Home Bar and widgets, including Capture, Performance, Resource, and the Widget Store, now look more lightweight with fewer lines and colors, giving them less of an Adobe Photoshop tools vibe. Microsoft says this is only the beginning of the visual changes rolling out this week. The update happened the same week Discord changed its UI with improved spacing between sections in the app and support for a full dark mode overlay. Both Game Bar and Discord let you view widgets while playing a game.As for the Xbox Cloud Gaming update, theres now a way to shift between games without having to jump out and return to the Home page. For now, it only works with several Assassins Creed titles, but Xbox promises it will work with other cloud games soon. Also, Cloud Gaming is expanding more titles that support Stream Your Own Game. Finally, Xbox is expanding in-game benefits to include more free-to-play titles such as Heroes in the Storm and, in April, Call of Duty: Warzone. It lets you acquire cosmetics, characters, in-game currency, and more in games like Overwatch 2 and Valorant.

  • ChatGPTs new image generator is delayed for free users
    www.theverge.com
OpenAI is pushing back the rollout of ChatGPTs built-in image generator for free users. In a post on Wednesday, CEO Sam Altman admitted that the image-generation tool is more popular than he expected, adding that rollout to our free tier is unfortunately going to be delayed for awhile.OpenAI only just added image generation capabilities to ChatGPT on Tuesday, allowing users to create images directly within the app using the companys reasoning model, GPT-4o. Since its launch, users have flooded social media feeds with photos transformed into images generated in the style of Studio Ghibli, a trend that even Altman has gotten in on.GPT-4o comes with improvements to text rendering and uses an autoregressive approach to image generation, which means it generates an image from left to right and top to bottom instead of all at the same time. Its currently available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, but now its not clear when it will arrive for free users.

  • There's a Star Wars BB-8 Version of Bop it! That Is Both Adorable and Really Cheap Today
    www.ign.com
I owned the original Bop It! game as a kid and played it with my friends and family way too much. Having to quickly respond to the commands of some bossy toy was far more fun than it should have been. Now that it's been almost 30 years since the original Bop it! was released, I had foolishly assumed this game had disappeared for good. Only recently have I discovered that it still exists, and now comes in a much more adorable form. The Bop It! BB-8 Edition is a cute little interactive version of the lovable Star Wars Droid and Amazon has recently dropped a big discount on it. It plays just like the original Bop It! game, but comes with the added bonus of having C-3PO's voice telling you what to do. At just $12 right now, this deal is only available for a limited time as part of Amazon's Spring Sale.Bop It! Game Star Wars BB-8 Edition at AmazonBop It! BB-8 EditionIncludes the voice of C-3PO.With Amazon's discount, this fun little Star Wars toy has dropped to its lowest price on Amazon since 2019 when it briefly dipped to under $10. Overall, $12 is a great price for what is essentially a Star Wars-themed fidget toy. Thanks to its small size and fairly hidden Bop It! branding, it also doubles as a great desk companion when you aren't using it. Although I personally think R2-D2 is the better droid, I can't deny the cuteness aura that BB-8 radiates. If you happen to be looking for a Bop It! toy more aligned with the original trilogy, there is also a Chewie version that you could consider. Unfortunately, Chewie doesn't appear to take as well to the Bop It! design as BB-8 and Hasbro has created one of the most horrifying versions of the Wookie I've ever seen.Bop It! Chewie EditionIncludes the voice of Han Solo.See it at AmazonCan you imagine holding Chewie in your hand as he stares blankly beyond the horizon, only to be bopped, twisted, and pulled while Han Solo commands you to do his bidding? If that does appeal to you, then this is the right toy for you. And it's just as cheap as the BB-8 version I featured above.Even more Bop It! toys to considerIf you're like me and only just discovering that Bop It! still exists, let me take you on a quick journey through some of the other versions of this toy currently available on Amazon:Bop It! • It's Never Too Late to Protect Your Nintendo Switch These Are the Best Switch Cases
    www.ign.com
The Nintendo Switch was a game-changer in handheld gaming space, acting as both a portable device and a console, when it came out seven years ago. Even though we're in the last stretch of the Switch before the Switch 2 comes out sometime this year, there's still plenty of life left in the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch Lites. One of their biggest virtues is also a drawback: Its versatility means its susceptible to damage, especially to the screen and Joy-Con when you're on the go. To prevent any major or minor scratches and blemishes, a case is the absolute best Nintendo Switch accessory you can grab. Waterfield Designs crafts some great bags for a range of devices, and it has created a sleeve specifically for the Switch or Switch Lite. Unlike most cases that require fussing with a zipper or velcro to access the console, this one features a case-length rare earth magnetic strip secures the opening when needed but lets you slip out the console for gaming in seconds. The lightweight and compact carrying sleeve is basically a Switch dopp kit with a subtle design to suit just about anyone's style preferences. Each bag is made in the USA with high-quality fabrics, including canvas, nylon, and leather, which are all stain and water-resistant. Inside the pouch is a fuzzy lining to stay gentle on the screen, and two slim interior pockets hold a few accessories like cords and games. How to Choose a Nintendo Switch CaseIf you need something to carry your console around, look for a carrying or travel case; basically, something with straps and is big enough to hold a charger. If you're throwing it in bag, something with a hard shell is a smarter bet. It should have a way to protect the screen from scratches (usually with a flip-down tongue or sleeve). Consider what you need to carry. Perhaps all you need is the console itself, maybe a few game cartridges. But if you're traveling away from home for a while, you might need a case large enough to hold the dock and an HDMI cable. Some cases come with an integrated battery. Its probably not worth considering a charging case with less than about 10,000mAh of power, as thatll power your Switch through just short of two complete charges. Bonus points if the battery charges quickly, and can also charge other devices in your inventory.Remember that these are cases youll need to cart around in the real world. What, exactly, do you want to be seen wearing or carrying? Some cases look a little goofy or childish, which is fine if youre a child, and less so if youre a grownup who takes a Switch to work to game on a lunch break.Nintendo Switch Case FAQWill my Switch case fit the Switch 2?Unfortunately, most Switch and Switch OLED cases will not fit the Switch 2, especially if they were made to be slim and discreet. Allegedly measuring 10.5 inches, the Switch 2 seems to be a full inch wider than the Switch OLED, which is just a hair bigger than the original. Unless your case or bag is already fairly roomy, you'll have to size up with a new one. We'll be testing Switch 2 accessories to find the best of them as they're available.Does a Nintendo Switch need a case?Unless youre playing your Switch exclusively at home, you will absolutely want a case to ensure the longevity of the device. Although the portable console is relatively durable, if you toss it in a bag or accidentally drop it without protection, you always run the risk of cracking the screen, damaging the Joy-Con, or breaking other key components, essentially bricking the device or needing to fix it for far more than the cost of a case. Cases also add convenience, as many come with extra storage for game cartridges and accessories and straps for easy carrying. Youll even find options that serve as grips to make gameplay more enjoyable or cases offering integrated batteries, ensuring youre never without juice during crucial moments in the action. Do new Nintendo Switches come with a case?None of the Nintendo Switch models come with a case. In some instances, there may be a bundle deal that includes a case, but for the most part, youll have to seek out a case on your own. If we're super lucky, that might change with the Switch 2.What size does a Switch case need to be? A Nintendo Switch is 4 x 9.4 x 0.55 inches with the Joy-Con attached; a Switch OLED is 4 x 9.5 x 0.55 inches; and the Switch Lite is . Youll need to account for the material required in the cases design, about 0.1-0.2 inches or so, but by no means does the case need to be massive. Sleeve-type cases, like Waterfield Designs Magnetic Case, are especially good for keeping a low handling footprint. If youre looking for a hard-shelle case to boost protection or want additional storage for accessories, the case size will increase more drastically. You can expect to add an inch or more to the Switchs size to accommodate these additions. When putting accessories into a case, its also important they dont press up against your device, causing accidental misspresses or damage to the screen. Pockets and separate storage areas can help prevent this. Danielle is a Tech freelance writer based in Los Angeles who spends her free time creating videos and geeking out over music history.

Incorporate the pastel palette through fresh blooms and the produce that the early spring has to offer. I remember watching my mom set tables for special occasions, each one created with so much joy, love, and understanding of the people around it. It wasnt about perfection (though her tables always were, in my opinion). Instead, she would add soul. Old family photos tucked into flowers, funny wind-up toys scattered down the center or a sprinkle of glitter for, well, just because! She knew just how to bring life to the table, and it encouraged us to talk, listen, laugh, and celebrate our core values. And when I see my own kids drawing pictures or writing silly jokes to decorate family dinner tables, Im filled with pride. • Try out this iOS 19 mockup on your iPhone with an interactive App Clip
    9to5mac.com
Weve been talking a lot about iOS 19 over the last few days, as rumors suggest that the next version of the iPhones operating system will receive a new interface inspired by visionOS. Although we dont know exactly what it will look like, someone has created a live mockup of iOS 19 and made it interactive via an App Clip.App Clip brings iOS 19 mockup to lifeA user known as Shane shared the mockup via an App Clip created with Play. The concept takes visual elements from visionOS such as frosted glass-inspired backgrounds combined with more depth and shadows to imagine what iOS 19 will look like. It also has rounded icons, just like the Vision Pro operating system. To make the concept more realistic, you can interact with parts of it. For instance, it lets you access the Settings, Music, and Camera apps this one with a live preview (if you give permission to the App Clip).Of course, the mockup is based on the latest iOS 19 rumors and is not an accurate representation made of a leak. Even so, it gives us an idea of what to expect for the next iOS update.YouTuber Jon Prosser was the first to suggest that Apple has been working on a new interface for iOS 19. He shared a mockup of what could be abrand new Camera app for the iPhonewith buttons floating on the screen. The rumor was corroborated byBloombergsMark Gurman, who said earlier this month thatiOS 19 and macOS 16 will mark the most significant upgrade to the interface in years.Yesterday, Prosser shared more iOS 19 mockups based on what his sources showed him. To back up the rumors, theWWDC 2025 artwork unveiled yesterdayis heavily inspired by visionOS.Apple will unveil iOS 19 at WWDC 2025, which begins on June 9 with an opening keynote. Until then, you can try out the iOS 19 mockup on your iPhone using this App Clip.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. • Tesla Forced to Change Name of "Full Self-Driving" in China, Since Its Cars Can't Fully Drive Themselves
    futurism.com
Tesla is being forced to change the name of its so-called "Full Self-Driving" driver assistance feature in China. As spotted by Electrek, the Elon Musk-led company is now going by the name "Intelligent Assisted Driving" in Chinese on its website. The news comes days after the carmaker abruptly suspended a free trial of its infamous software in China."All parties are actively advancing the relevant process and we will push it to you as soon as it is ready," Tesla's customer support account wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo, as translated byReuters. "We are also looking forward to it, please wait patiently."Tesla has run into major headwinds while trying to roll out the software in China, where regulators can have a heavier hand than in the United States. Last month, insider sources told the Financial Times that Chinese regulators had informed them that the timeline for FSD approval was "indefinite," despite previously indicating that it would be approved by this spring. The software itself appears to be suffering from some potentially dangerous flaws. Drivers had been testing the software before it was paused on public streets in China, racking up a huge number of fines. Chinese Tesla owners have found that the system is misinterpreting bike lanes as right turn lanes, running red lights, and hogging bus lanes illegally, as Electrek reported last month. The carmaker has already run afoul of regulators for its misleading naming convention after all, as Tesla admits on its website, the "Full Self-Driving" feature doesn't make good on its promise of fully autonomous driving and requires drivers to be ready to take over at all times. In 2022, the California DMV alleged that Tesla put out "untrue or misleading" advertisements on its website in relation to its Full Self-Driving and Autopilot tech. In 2023, former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg also called out the company, saying that the name of the system lacks "common sense."However, Tesla still uses both monikers in its marketing materials in the US and many other parts of the world.Besides changing the FSD feature's name tobetter reflect reality, Tesla also removed the word "Autopilot" from the Chinese name, according to Electrek. The entry-level software, which is included in the base price of the vehicle, is now called "Basic Assisted Driving."In short, it's a change that Tesla should've made worldwide years ago. For almost a decade, Tesla has been marketing its driver assistance software using misleading language. That's likely already had severe consequences. US regulators have linked the carmaker's software to hundreds of collisions and dozens of deaths, warning that Tesla's marketing is lulling its customers into a false sense of security.Where that leaves Tesla's attempts to bring its driver assistance features to the Chinese market remains to be seen. There's a good chance the latest name change signifies Tesla falling in line with the demands of Chinese regulators. The company is still committed to rolling out the software in the country, pending regulatory approval but that's turning out to be a lot easier said than done.Share This Article
