Days Gone PC Gets Update With Improved Visuals, Lighting, and Sky Effects
Bend Studio and PlayStation have released a new update for the recent PC release of Days Gone. As the studio counts the days up to the release of the upcoming Broken Road DLC, the released update brings with it improvements to the game’s visuals, as well as support for the haptic feedback feature when using a DualSense controller. The major feature of the update is the fact that Days Gone gets improvements to the visuals of its world. While the studio hasn’t gone into too many details about this in the patch notes, there are mentions of new sky atmospheric and simulations that help make the game’s skybox look generally better thanks to more accurate intensities of sunlight. The same lighting enhancements also apply to night time in Days Gone, making it “significantly” darker. The visual improvements were likely made to bring the PC version of Days Gone more in-line with the upcoming PS5 release of Days Gone Remastered on April 25. The new console release will feature visual enhancements, along with new game modes with options like Permadeath and a Speedrun mode. This gameplay content, along with the Horde Assault mode, will be available on PC through the Broken Road DLC, which can be picked up for $10 and will be available on the platform on the same day as the PS5 release of Days Gone Remastered. Days Gone, originally released on the PS4 all the way back in 2019, made its way on to PC in 2021. The title is an open-world game that puts players in the shoes of a biker trying to survive in a world that has been infested by zombies. One of the main hooks of Days Gone is the fact that the protagonist’s bike is an incredibly important thing. Along with being the main method of exploration in the open world, the bike can also be upgraded in various ways, ranging from making it more fuel efficient and faster, to even being able to kill some zombies more efficiently. The PC version of Days Gone was released with a host of features, including New Game Plus, Survival Mode, Challenge Mode, and additional bike skins. There were also quite a few PC-centric features added to the game, such as unlocked frame rates, improved visuals, and support for ultrawide displays. Leading up to its upcoming PS5 release, Days Gone Remastered got a new trailer showing off its new Horde Assault game mode. In the trailer, we got to see insanely large swarms of zombies, as well as new playable characters for the mode like Boozer, O’Brian, Iron Make, and a NERO soldier. For more details about Days Gone, check out our review from back when it came out on PC. In the meantime, also check out our thoughts on why the Days Gone Remaster on PS5 might be worth a look. Days Gone PC Update patch notes: DualSense haptic feedback support Accessibility features World graphical improvements New Atmospheric/Sky simulation using ozone and spectral light simulation: Improves overall color tone and produces more accurate light intensities for the sky and sunlight Significantly darker night time Improved screen space indirect lighting and ambient occlusion effects Double shadowmap resolution when Shadow Quality is set to Highest Additional improvements

Nintendo files request to subpoena Discord for Pokémon leaker identity
Nintendo files request to subpoena Discord for Pokémon leaker identity The 'teraleak' revealed confidential information about the series in October 2024 News by Samuel Roberts Editorial Director Published on April 22, 2025 Nintendo of America has requested a subpoena for online community platform Discord as it attempts to reveal the identity of the person behind October 2024's Pokémon 'teraleak'. That's according to a legal filing obtained by Polygon, which outlines Nintendo's efforts to learn who the leaker was. The subpoena request cites Discord user GameFreakOUT, who allegedly posted "confidential materials unreleased to the public" on a server called FreakLeak. The request was submitted to San Francisco's district court on April 18, 2025, with Nintendo's legal team at Mitchell Silberberg and Knupp LLP filing the subpoena under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. An accompanying declaration by attorney James D. Berkley explains the subpoena would "order" Discord to disclose the identity, name, address, telephone number and email address of GameFreakOut. Last October, developer Game Freak confirmed that staff data for more than 2,000 current and former employees had been breached in August 2024. This was shortly before assets and information related to the Pokémon series were widely leaked on social media. The 'teraleak' encompassed a host of information on games past, present, and future in the Pokémon series, including the source code for the DS games Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. "The Content infringes NOA's exclusive rights under copyright law," says the request. "Specifically, it infringes NOA's rights in the copyright-protected artwork, characters, and other materials related to the famous Pokémon franchise, including but not limited to videogames developed in connection with the Pokémon franchise, such as the videogame Pokémon Legends: Arceus." Nintendo's request also includes an exhibit of a partially redacted screenshot from Discord including messages from the user in question.

Uber users can now earn miles with Delta Air Lines
Delta SkyMiles members can now link their accounts to Uber, earning miles for money spent on rides and food delivery, the companies announced today. The news kicks off a partnership between Uber and Delta Air Lines that was first announced earlier this year.Once a customer’s accounts are linked, they can earn one mile per dollar spent on UberX rides to the airport, two miles for every dollar spent on premium rides like Uber Comfort and Uber Black, and three miles per dollar on Uber Reserve trips. For Uber Eats, customers can earn one mile for every dollar spent on orders over $40 from restaurants and grocery stores.Likewise, Delta customers can now use the airline’s smartphone app to book an Uber ride to or from the airport. And later this year, SkyMiles members who log in to the in-flight WiFi will receive a special offer of 30 percent off to book an Uber Reserve ride for pickup when they land.Uber is the latest to team up with Delta for expanded loyalty earnings. The airline has also formed partnerships with Starbucks, Hertz, and Ticketmaster.Delta had previously teamed up with Lyft on a similar deal to earn miles from ridehail trips. Now, the airline has dropped the smaller rival in favor of Uber, which is significantly larger in terms of market share, ride volume, and revenue.Uber is also announcing the launch of an airport shuttle in Atlanta, after launching similar shuttles for JFK and LaGuardia airports in New York City. (The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is a major hub for Delta.)Introductory pricing will be $10, which rises to $18.50 after the promotion. Starting in May, Uber will offer multiple routes from Downtown and Midtown locations to and from the airport, with service every 30 minutes from 6:00am - 10:00pm, 7 days a week. The company says it said it’s currently in talks with Boston’s Logan International Airport about bringing its shuttle service there.See More:

With Baldur's Gate 3's Steam Player Count Booming Following Patch 8, Larian Now Has 'Room to Focus on Making Our Next Big Thing as Good as We Can'
Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen a significant boost in player numbers on Steam following the release of the hotly anticipated Patch 8, and this has set developer Larian up nicely to focus on its next big game. The enormous, game-changing Patch 8 launched last week and with it added 12 new subclasses to Baldur's Gate 3. Its release sparked a player surge as fans flocked to test out the new subclasses as well as the brand new photo mode.On Steam, Baldur’s Gate 3 hit a player concurrent peak of 169,267 over the weekend — an incredible feat for a single-player focused role-playing game in its second year. Sony and Microsoft do not make PlayStation nor Xbox player numbers publicly available.PlayReflecting on the release of Patch 8, Larian chief Swen Vincke tweeted to say he expects Baldur’s Gate 3 to “continue to do well for quite some time,” not just because of the Patch 8 player boost, but because of “thriving” mod support. This in turn gives Larian “room to focus on making our next big thing as good as we can,” Vincke continued. “We’ve got big shoes to fill.”"Feeling good today about where we are with BG3," Vincke said. "Patch 8 got a lot of people playing again. It took a lot of development effort but I'm happy we did it."With mod support thriving, I think the game will now continue to do well for quite some time. It gives us room to focus on making our next big thing as good as we can and that focus is more than welcome. We've got big shoes to fill."Patch 8, as Larian has signalled, is the final major update for the game and draws a line under what has been a remarkable time for the developer. Baldur’s Gate 3 launched to critical acclaim and enormous commercial success back in 2023, and has continued to sell strongly throughout 2024 and into 2025.Larian shocked the gaming world by confirming its intention to leave Baldur’s Gate 3 and Dungeons & Dragons behind to work on a brand new game, which it teased at various points before announcing a media blackout to focus on the new mystery project.PlayD&D owner Hasbro, however, has teased plans to continue with the series. Speaking to IGN at the Game Developers Conference, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, Dan Ayoub, let on that with Larian moving on, Hasbro has "a lot of people very interested in Baldur's Gate.""We're kind of working out our plans for the future and what we're going to be doing with that," Ayoub said. "And actually, in pretty short order, we're going to have some stuff to talk about around that."Ayoub didn't offer any further information about whether this "stuff" would be a full-blown new Baldur's Gate in the works, or some sort of crossover like the characters had with Magic: The Gathering previously. However, he did acknowledge that he eventually wants a Baldur's Gate 4, but that making one will likely take a while."It's somewhat of an unenviable position," he said. "I mean, we're not in a hurry. Right? That's the thing, we're going to take a very measured approach... We've got a lot of plans, a lot of different ways to go about it. We're starting to think about, okay, yeah, we're ready to start dipping toes a little bit and talking about a few things. And I think, in really short order, like I said, again, not to over-tease that point, we're going to have some other things to talk about around that."Wesley is the UK News Editor for IGN. M4 MacBook Air helps drive market-beating growth for Apple
The launch of the M4 MacBook Air back in March helped Apple enjoy faster growth than any other computer maker in the first quarter of the year, according to a new report. However, there are concerns that this boost may be short-lived, due to the potential for tariffs to be imposed later in the year … M4 MacBook Air While the launch of the M4 MacBook Air may not have been an especially exciting update, reviewers agreed that this is the Mac most people should buy. It was described as the perfect time for people to upgrade from an Intel model, delivering a huge amount of Mac for a $999 price. Apple saw 17% growth in Q1 A market intelligence report from Counterpoint Research estimates that overall PC shipments grew 6.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of the year – but Apple was way ahead of the pack with a full 17% increase. This was more than any other PC brand, with Lenovo the only other PC maker to see double-digit growth. Global PC shipments grew 6.7% YoY in Q1 2025 to reach 61.4 million units, according to Counterpoint Research’s preliminary data. The growth was mainly driven by PC vendors accelerating shipments ahead of US tariffs and the increasing adoption of AI-enabled PCs amid the end of Windows 10 support […] Apple and Lenovo delivered strong performances in the quarter, largely due to new product launches and market dynamics. Apple experienced 17% YoY growth in shipments, driven by its AI-capable M4-based MacBook series. Lenovo’s 11% growth reflected its expansion into AI-enabled PCs and its diversified product portfolio. Admittedly the impact on Apple’s market share was limited, given that shipments of all brands were up, with a modest nudge from 9% of the market to 10%. Tariff fears for the future As we predicted, Apple has so far escaped the full impact of Trump’s new tariffs on tech manufactured overseas, but it’s unclear how long that will remain the case. Counterpoint says the first quarter of the year drove a spike in demand which may not last. This surge may be short-lived, as inventory levels are likely to stabilize in the next few weeks. The impact of the US tariffs is expected to dampen the growth momentum in 2025 […] Despite recent US exemptions removing tariffs on laptops, uncertainty persists as the Trump administration is planning to impose new duties on semiconductors and other tech products within the next quarter. My money remains on a resolution, but there’s no denying the fact that it’s impossible to predict what the current administration might do next. The latest development is the imposition of a new tariff on South East Asia solar panels … of 3,521%. Beyond Cupertino: Uber’s 32-step cancellation process, Bluesky blue checks, and more
Tech companies have often been accused of making it hard to cancel subscriptions, but Uber appears to have taken things to a whole new level! It’s being sued by the FTC for forcing Uber One subscribers to take as many as 32 separate actions when they want to cancel. The Federal Trade Commission also says that Uber illegally started charging subscribers before the end of their free trial period, and lied about the cost savings … Uber’s 32-step cancellation process Uber One is a subscription service which claims to offer a range of benefits, including discounts on rides, free delivery with some food orders, and selection of the highest-rated drivers for your trips. However, not all subscribers were happy with the service, and the company appears to have made it as difficult as humanly possible to cancel. Engadget reports on the lawsuit. “Users can be forced to navigate as many as 23 screens and take as many as 32 actions to cancel,” the commission claims. The company also reportedly charged some users before their bill their free trial was up, and misrepresented the savings Uber One offered by not taking its subscription fee into account. The lawsuit says that Uber’s actions violated the FTC Act and the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act, which “requires online retailers to clearly disclose the terms of the service they are selling, obtain consumers’ consent before charging them for a service and provide a simple way to cancel a recurring subscription.” Uber admits that users could start being charged two days before their free trial ended, an issue it says it has now fixed, but denies the other charges. A new law was introduced last year, in which companies were required to make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to start one. Bluesky blue checks Social network Bluesky has started rolling out its own account verification process, emulating the blue checkmarks first introduced by Twitter before they were devalued as part of the X rebrand. Wired reports that it’s currently being limited to accounts whose authentication matters most, but will later be open to all. “It’ll be a rolling process as the feature stabilizes, and then we’ll launch a public form that people can use to request verification,” says CEO Jay Graber. The highest-priority accounts right now are government officials, news organizations and journalists, and celebrities. Tariffs hit more tech imports The impact of tariffs on technology imported from China and elsewhere is continuing to have unwanted effects. BBC News reports that DHL has suspended all deliveries to US consumers for goods worth more than $800, citing the increased bureaucracy introduced by the Trump administration to apply the new tariffs. Game Boy clone maker Anbernic has also suspended all shipments to the US, reports The Verge. Airbnb now shows true cost of a stay Finally, Bloomberg reports that Airbnb is now showing customers the true cost of a stay in search results, in order to comply with a law banning hidden costs, introduced last year. Previously, costs shown in lists were highly misleading, as they excluded cleaning and service fees, which had a particularly large impact on sort stays. 5 Major Concerns With Employees Using The Browser
Apr 22, 2025The Hacker NewsSaaS Security / Browser Security As SaaS and cloud-native work reshape the enterprise, the web browser has emerged as the new endpoint. However, unlike endpoints, browsers remain mostly unmonitored, despite being responsible for more than 70% of modern malware attacks. Keep Aware's recent State of Browser Security report highlights major concerns security leaders face with employees using the web browser for most of their work. The reality is that traditional security tools are blind to what happens within the browser, and attackers know it. Key Findings: 70% of phishing campaigns impersonate Microsoft, OneDrive, or Office 365 to exploit user trust. 150+ trusted platforms like Google Docs and Dropbox are being abused to host phishing and exfiltrate data. 10% of AI prompts involve sensitive business content, posing risks across thousands of browser-based AI tools. 34% of file uploads on company devices go to personal accounts, often undetected. New Attack Patterns Bypass Traditional Defenses From phishing kits that morph in real-time to JavaScript-based credential theft, attackers are bypassing firewalls, SWGs, and even EDRs. Here's how: Malware Reassembly in the Browser Threats are delivered as fragments that only activate when assembled inside the browser—making them invisible to network or endpoint tools. Multi-Step Phishing Phishing pages dynamically serve different content depending on who's viewing—users see scams, and scanners see nothing. Microsoft remains the most impersonated target. Living Off Trusted Platforms Attackers hide behind URLs from reputable SaaS platforms. Security tools allow this by default—giving adversaries a clear path in. The security stack must evolve to detect, analyze, and respond to threats where they actually occur: inside the browser. Relying solely on perimeter-based defenses like SWGs and network security tools is no longer enough. AI: The Next Great (Unmonitored) Security Risk With 75% of employees using generative AI, most enterprises are unaware of what data is being pasted into models like ChatGPT—or what third-party browser extensions are doing in the background. Unlike traditional apps, AI tools don't have a defined security boundary. IT and security teams are often left reactively responding to AI adoption, rather than proactively managing it. Traditional policy-based approaches struggle with AI adoption because: AI applications are rapidly being created, making static allow/deny lists ineffective. Employees often switch between personal and corporate AI use, further blurring enforcement. Many AI models are embedded inside other platforms, making detection and control even harder. This results in inconsistent governance, where security teams are faced with the challenge of defining and enforcing policies in an environment that doesn't have clear usage boundaries. As AI regulations tighten, visibility and control over AI adoption will be mandatory and no longer optional. Organizations must track usage, detect risks, and flag sensitive data exposure before compliance pressures mount. Proactive monitoring today lays the foundation for AI governance tomorrow. DLP Can't Keep Up With the Browser Legacy Data Loss Prevention systems were designed for email and endpoints—not for today's browser-heavy workflows. The browser has become the primary channel for data movement, yet traditional DLP solutions can only see where network traffic is sent, not the actual destination application handling the data. Modern data exfiltration risks include: Pasting API keys into browser-based tools Uploading documents to personal Google Drive Copy-pasting customer data into AI assistants Even well-meaning employees can unintentionally leak IP when switching between work and personal accounts—something legacy tools can't detect. With more data moving through the browser than ever before, DLP must evolve to recognize application context, user actions, and business intent. A unified browser-based DLP model would give security teams the ability to apply consistent data protection policies across all destinations while enforcing controls on high-risk actions. The Extension Problem No One's Watching Despite minimal technical evolution over the years, browser extensions now have unprecedented access to sensitive organizational data and user identities. While security teams rigorously manage software updates, patches, and endpoint security policies, extensions remain an attack surface often overlooked in traditional security frameworks. During their user data research, the Keep Aware team found: 46% of extensions serve productivity use cases. 20% fall into lifestyle categories—like shopping or social plugins. 10% are classified as high or critical risk due to excessive permissions. Permissions that enable full-page access, session tracking, or network interception are still far too common—even in extensions downloaded from trusted marketplaces. As extensions continue to serve as both productivity tools and security liabilities, enterprises must implement stronger review processes, visibility controls, and proactive defenses to secure the browser from the inside out. Download the full report. Shadow IT Lives In The Browser Shadow IT is no longer just occasional use of unsanctioned applications—it has become a major challenge for enterprise security. Employees regularly adopt SaaS applications, personal file-sharing services, and third-party AI tools without IT oversight, often integrating them into daily work with real business data. Employees across different job functions routinely interact with multiple organizational instances of the same application—often without recognizing the security implications. Marketing & Creative Teams: A marketing team member might mistakenly upload assets to a partner's Google Drive instead of the company's official instance, leading to unintended data exposure. Consultants & Client-Facing Roles: A consultant working with multiple clients may access client-specific SharePoint sites, unknowingly creating security gaps as sensitive data is shared across different organizations. Professional Services & External Collaboration: Industries like legal and accounting, which rely heavily on external collaboration, frequently have employees working across 15+ different SharePoint instances, introducing significant challenges in monitoring data movement. This explosion of Shadow IT creates massive security gaps, especially as product-led growth platforms bypass procurement processes entirely. Instead of classifying applications as corporate or consumer, security teams must assess the intent behind employee interactions, the account context in which tools are used, and real-time risks tied to SaaS activity. This means moving beyond static policies to embrace dynamic risk assessments, context-aware access controls, and continuous monitoring. The browser has become the most critical point of visibility, revealing logins, account switching, MFA status, consent-based access requests, and data movement across organizational boundaries. The Path Forward: Browser-Native Visibility and Control Keep Aware's report provides comprehensive insights and data points that prove that security must move inside the browser. As phishing campaigns evolve, malware reassembly becomes more sophisticated, AI usage soars, and browser extensions remain unchecked, organizations that fail to adapt will remain vulnerable. Security teams must integrate browser security into their enterprise security stack to gain real-time visibility, detect browser-native threats, and protect people where they work. Request a personalized demo if you'd like to learn more about protecting your organization from browser-based threats. Found this article interesting?
