LIFEHACKER.COMHabituator for iOS Is a Beautiful Habits App With Great WidgetsBuilding new habits is hard, but tracking progress can help motivate youthat's why there are a lot of habit tracking apps out there. Habituator stands out for its clean yet playful design, integration with system features like Apple Fitness, and widgets that make it easy to check off habits without having to actually open the app.The application, from indie developer Alain Caltieri, is free for up to three habits with no ads and all features included. For more habits than that you need to pay $9.99 per year or $19.99 for a lifetime purchase.Getting started is simple: just add a few habits. There are templates built in for all kinds of things, from drinking water to taking a regular walk. Fitness-based habits can be automatically checked using data from Apple Fitness, while other habits are checked manually in the app, on your Apple Watch, or using any of the built-in widgets. Credit: Alain Caltieri There's a great deal of flexibility offered. For example, if you only run on certain days of the week, you can set that. You can also set some habits to happen multiple times per day, or set notifications up to remind you to follow through. Credit: Alain Caltieri You can also dig into the stats on any of your habitsan overview shows you a calendar summary, your longest streak, and the days of the week you are most likely to follow through. This all adds a game-like feel to building a new habit. Now, for some this is all going to feel like overkill, and for those people I recommend a gold old-fashioned paper calendar that you can mark Xs on for particular habits. If you live and die by your phone, though, I recommend Habitulator. The free version is more than generous enough to give you a feel for the application. If you find this approach works for you, then $20 isn't going to feel like a waste. If not, well, you lost nothing.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 282 Views

WWW.ENGADGET.COMSenators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders call for an antitrust investigation into Venu SportsVenu Sports appears poised to offer a one-stop shop for streaming all kinds of athletic events. However, the extensive amount of sports content controlled by Disney (which owns ESPN), Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery, has raised questions about the upcoming streaming service. Three members of Congress have called on the Department of Justice and the Federal Communications Commission to investigate whether Venu violates antitrust laws."If this JV [joint venture] is permitted to proceed, competitors would be forced to negotiate with Fox, Disney, and Warner Bros. for access to over half of the major sporting licensing rights while simultaneously competing against these companies to offer the best product to broadcast or stream these programs," Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) wrote in an open letter. They also questioned whether Venu could lead to increased prices for consumers. (And the prices for Venu are already looking pretty steep, with a launch price of $43 a month.)This group isn't the first to question this sports streaming venture. Shortly after the joint venture between the three companies was announced, FuboTV filed a lawsuit alleging that Venu would fall afoul of antitrust laws. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/streaming/senators-elizabeth-warren-and-bernie-sanders-call-for-an-antitrust-investigation-into-venu-sports-203458843.html?src=rss0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 277 Views

LIFEHACKER.COMHow I Use a Storage Unit to Organize My Small SpaceI live in a little apartment, and no matter how many pieces of dual-purpose storage furniture I buy or how strategically I plan out how to store things I have a bunch of, I can't overcome the fact that I just don't have a lot of room. I have a storage unit (and have for years), and before you say that you don't need one, consider the following.A storage unit doesn't have to be huge or expensiveWhen I got my first storage unit, I didn't know what it would be like at all. All I knew about storage units was that the ones I'd seen back in my rural hometown were massive, meant to hold farm equipment or old cars, and the ones I saw on reality shows about locker auctions were also huge, for the most part. All I wanted back then was someplace to store my stuff for a few weeks while I was moving apartments, so when I showed up to the storage place and found out they had plenty of closet-sized units, I was both surprised and grateful. What to store in a storage unitAll I really need is a closet-sized one, since closet space is what I'm missing in my home. I store out-of-season items in mine, so right now it's full of hoodies, coats, and boots, but in a few weeks, I'll get those back and put my shorts, swimsuits, and beach things in there. I still have room for other items, like an air purifier I never use, and valuables I don't need to see but do need to keep. What you could put in there depends on a few personal factors, like where you live and what you own. Other good ideas include:Holiday decorationsOff-season outdoor tools, like lawnmowers or snow blowers (in bigger units)Bikes, skateboards, snowboards, or other weather-specific outdoor equipmentSpecial occasion items, like fancy dresses or fine chinaAny household goods you buy in bulk, as long as getting to the unit is relatively convenient I've written a lot about how to organize storage rooms and garages, but if you don't have one of those or those spaces just aren't that big, no amount of shelving or hacks will really fix it. Helpful storage unit tipsI used to use a storage unit that was self-serve. It was pretty useful for me, but it had limitations. Because I don't have a car and live in a big city, I couldn't put larger items in there. I couldn't easily get them in and out. I found a different company that picks up my storage items, brings them to the unit (which I'm not allowed to visit in-person), and brings them back when I ask. I pay $80 per month for it and to me, it's extremely worth it, but it does require some planning, as I need to tell them a day or two in advance if I need something out of there. You can also start small. Pick a smaller, less expensive unit, then upgrade to something bigger if you need it. If you go in-person, you can usually work out some kind of deal on the bigger one just by haggling a little with the worker; that's what I did when I upgraded from closet- to bigger-closet-sized after two years of the mini unit. I do recommend using organization tools within the unit, too. Just because you're using an out-of-sight, out-of-mind approach to organizing your home doesn't mean the things you stash away should fall into disarray or be hard to access when you go get them. Stick to the organizational rules you employ in your home, storing similar items together and making sure they all have a designated spot. I made this mistake in the first unit I rented, allowing all the clothes I stuck in there to turn into a jumble that got worse and worse every time I stopped in to swap new ones in. I don't need to organize now, since I use a company that does that for me, but when I upgraded to a bigger unit, I got a clothing rack and some shelves, which really revolutionized the thing. A shelving unit can cost as little as $17 and storage containers that keep moisture, bugs, and dust off your stuff while keeping it all organized by category are invaluable (but typically you can get four for $31).0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 278 Views

WWW.ENGADGET.COMPeople are returning Humane AI Pins faster than the company can sell themHumanes universally derided AI Pin is not exactly flying off of store shelves, according to internal sales documents published by The Verge. As a matter of fact, returns seem to be currently outpacing new purchases. So many have been returned, that there are only around 7,000 units out in the wild. The company had once hoped to sell 100,000 in the first year, so that aint happening. To date, around 10,000 have been sold and 3,000 have been returned, leaving the aforementioned 7,000 in the hands of consumers. This gadget costs $700, so Id obviously have returned it after learning it doesnt actually do anything useful. Wouldnt you? To that end, over 1,000 pre-orders were canceled once reviews started coming in.We called it the solution to none of technology's problems and struggled to understand who it was even for. This was before the charging case accessory became a potential fire hazard, which added to the image of the product being the ultimate example of tech hubris. Theres a reason, after all, why noted tech vlogger Marques Brownlee called it the worst product he had ever reviewed.Humane has been, sort of, trying to turn things around, mostly by trying to find a larger company to scoop it up into its portfolio. HP has been considering a purchase, according to The New York Times. Also, the companys allegedly been in active negotiations with investors, as reported by The Information.Humane has taken umbrage with The Verge and its reporting, with spokesperson Zoz Cuccias claiming inaccuracies regarding the financial data but didnt go into specifics. Instead, she said we have nothing else to provide as we do not comment on financial data, and will refer it to our legal counsel. The Verge reports that the company has no refurbishment operation in place, which is another lost opportunity for revenue. The problem allegedly boils down to a limitation with carrier partner T-Mobile that doesnt allow Humane to reassign one of these pins to a secondary user. The returned pins could be destined for the scrap heap, but Humane is reportedly holding onto the returns for now, in the hopes it solves the problem with T-Mobile.The company has been releasing software updates to address user feedback, so who knows. Maybe the ship can right itself. Theres still the question of spending $700 for a secondary device that underperforms when compared to a smartphone. The same question applies to a $200 device. Were looking at you Rabbit. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/ai/people-are-returning-humane-ai-pins-faster-than-the-company-can-sell-them-191523105.html?src=rss0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 285 Views
