WWW.FOXNEWS.COMHow a wrong Google search can compromise your data and bring law enforcement callingTech How a wrong Google search can compromise your data and bring law enforcement calling Beware of what you search on Google Published November 17, 2024 10:00am EST close Google accused of using unlawful tactics to control digital advertising market Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley joins 'The Faulkner Focus' to discuss the Justice Department's antitrust case against Google, accusing the search engine of abusing its power to create an online advertising monopoly. Google is probably the one online service that we all use at least once a day, whether it's searching for a query, finding something to buy or anything else. It's generally safe to use, even though the search results arent quite hitting the mark these days. Thats a discussion for another time. What we have at hand today are the hidden risks involved with Google search, which can not only compromise your device and personal data but also bring law enforcement to your doorstep. This is not an exaggeration, and below you'll find out how. Woman typing on laptop (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)The hidden dangers of niche queriesCybersecurity companySophos issued an urgent warning on its website, asking people not to type six words into its search engines. Those who Google "Are Bengal Cats legal in Australia?" have reportedly had their personal information stolen after clicking on fraudulent links that appear near the top of the page. Its unclear why hackers have launched this unusually specific campaign. The only reason I can think of is that they are targeting the Australian demographic, and the phrase "Are Bengal Cats legal in Australia?" is easy to rank for on the Google search engine results page.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?People who search about whether bengal cats are legal in Australia (they are, if youre curious) are at risk of being targeted by GootLoader malware. This malware is spread through SEO tactics, where hackers make infected links show up high in search results. When people search for terms like legal documents or agreements, they might click on these dangerous links that lead to websites hosting a ZIP file with harmful code.Once this malware gets onto a computer, it opens the door for a second, more dangerous malware called GootKit, which is designed to steal personal information and allow hackers to control the device remotely. Image of Google search engine (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)Hackers arent the only ones watching your Google searchesWhile hackers are targeting Google searches, theyre not the only ones watching what you search. Law enforcement, your workplaces IT department and your telecom provider can also see your search activity. One couple reportedly learned this the hard way when police showed up at their door after they searched just four words, "pressure cooker bomb," along with the word "backpack."Michele Catalano and her husband from Long Island, New York, were browsing online for some everyday items, but they quickly found themselves in unexpected trouble. Michele, a freelance writer, was looking to buy a pressure cooker, while her husband wanted a new backpack. They each searched for the items separately. But two days later, her husband searched for both items from his work computer, just before leaving his job. His former employers IT staff flagged these searches and reported them to the local Suffolk County Police Department. Soon after, several black SUVs showed up at the couple's house, with police wanting to make sure there were no security threats.GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HERE A person doing a Google search (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)5 ways to stay safe when searching something on Google1. Avoid clicking on ads and suspicious links: Be cautious of ads or unfamiliar links at the top of search results. Hackers often use SEO poisoning to place dangerous links in prominent positions. So, try to stick with trusted websites and known sources. The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have strong antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe.Get my picks for the best 2024 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.2. Use a VPN: A virtual private network (VPN) encrypts your internet traffic, making it harder for hackers, ISPs or other third parties to track your online activity and searches. Many sites can read your IP address and, depending on their privacy settings, may display the city from which you are corresponding. A VPN will disguise your IP address to show an alternate location. For the best VPN software, see my expert review of the best VPNs for browsing the web privately on your Windows, Mac, Android & iOS devices3. Enable SafeSearch: Googles SafeSearch filters help to block explicit or potentially harmful content. Its especially useful for filtering out unsafe links and improving search safety.4. Limit personal data on Google: Adjust your Google accounts privacy settings to minimize data collection, including search history, location tracking and ad personalization. You can access these settings in the "My Activity" section of your Google account.5. Use private browsing or clear your history: Using Incognito Mode or clearing your browsing history regularly can help reduce tracking of your searches. While it doesnt hide your activity from ISPs or law enforcement, it limits the data Google can store on your device.Kurts key takeawayBad actors are always trying to exploit any digital medium you use, whether its social media or a Google search. Its concerning how malicious websites that put users at risk are readily available on the first page of Google. Although the search giant has claimed to prioritize helpful content this year, the ease with which hackers manipulate search results suggests Google is doing quite the opposite. Im not holding out much hope for Google to improve its platform, but you can stay safe by avoiding suspicious links and being extra careful.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPDo you feel like Googles search results have become more or less trustworthy over the years? WWW.FORBES.COMArcane Season 2 Part 2 Ends With The Biggest Gut Punch Of The Series So FarArcane NetflixArcane is doing this highly unusual arc structure, where they have talked Netflix into releasing three episodes a weekend for three weekends in a row. Now, we have just gotten access to the middle three, part 2 of season 2, and while parts of it may lack the impact of the first three, that certainly cannot be said of the ending. Spoilers follow. The thrust of this middle part of Arcane season 2 is the reunion of sisters Jinx and Vi, who have been sparring most of the series, but now must come together to attempt to rescue their father, Vander, whose consciousness is trapped in the beast known as Warwick. The method to do this is to bring him to Viktor, who now has magic, Arcane-based healing powers which has created a utopian community. The problems are twofold. First, Ambessa and Singed are tracking Warwick to capture him and use him in weapon production. Second, a demented version of Jayce has re-emerged from the Arcane plane, and hes actually the one who kicks off the chaos that follows. He uses his now Arcane-warped hammer to blast a hole straight through Viktor, who dies, and then takes his entire community with him, his healing abilities evaporating with him. This also includes all the progress hes made with Warwick, who loses his Vander pieces entirely and turns into a molten monster attempting to murder everything in its path. Perhaps a nice nod to Leagues Firefang Warwick skin, but disastrous for our story here.ArcaneNetflixI remember when we first glimpsed Jinxs new little sidekick, the mute Isha (I briefly thought this was going to be a Teemo adaptation, but no), everyone believed that this felt like a character that was introduced to eventually die in a tragic way.MORE FOR YOUWelp.Yes, that is in fact what happened, but that did not make Ishas final moments any less heart-wrenching. Seeing that molten Warwick is going to kill Jinx and probably everyone else, Isha jams all the Hextech she can into Jinxs gun, and slides under Warwick, unloading what appears to be nuclear shot that definitely kills her and probably kills him too, ending the carnage. This moment happens with flashbacks to Ishas time with Jinx, and in real time, Jinx twisting her face in the most convincing looks of grief and horror Ive ever seen in an animated series. It's a horrible, brilliant scene. While Arcane has always worked on an emotional level, the rapid-fire deaths of Viktor at the hands of Jayce, Isha trying to save Jinx and Warwick right after his daughters had just (almost) gotten him back is like nothing the series has given us so far. It is no great surprise that Arcane season 2 has kept up its perfect critic reviews and sky-high audience scores, and its hard to imagine the final three episodes of the season, the series finale, wont deliver next weekend.Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 68 Ansichten

WWW.FORBES.COMNew Samsung Leak Reveals Promising Galaxy S25 Design DecisionSamsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Unpacked 2024, London, United Kingdom EWAN SPENCESamsungs upcoming Galaxy S25 family of smartphones will be some of the most powerful smartphones to be released in 2025. And new details on the specifications suggest that this power will be available to everyone, no matter which S25 they buy. This has been a roller coaster few weeks for the community. With the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite and the news that Samsung was looking to use Qualcomms latest system-on-chip across the entire Galaxy S25 range, Galaxy fans were ready for a consistent level of performance across the portfolio. With previous Galaxy S ranges, Samsung had split the range in two, with some territories recieving a Snapdragon-equipped handset and others receiving the in-house Samsung Exynos chipset. The latter was seen as offering less performance and power. With no option to choose the alternative chipset to the official offering, the Exynos was forced on consumers who prized more power and flexibility in their handset. What Has Changed For The Galaxy S25?Earlier this month, there were signs that Samsung was considering a split Snapdragon/Exynos line-up as the Exynos 250 chipset was spotted on Geekbench as part of a Galaxy S25+ benchmarking. As with previous iterations, the numbers for the Snapdragon chipset highlighted the advantages over Exynos. This weekend, noted industry commentator and leaker IceUniverse has contributed once more to the debate, with a strongly worded note on the upcoming specifications; "I reiterate that all versions of the Galaxy S25 series in the world adopt Snapdragon 8 Elite, and will not adopt Exynos."MORE FOR YOUA Mysterious Galaxy S25 DesignIt shouldnt come as a surprise that Samsung has been testing out the Exynos chipset for the next Galaxy S handsets, although at two months before a presumed launch, it is late in the day to still be in wo minds about the release. Assuming IceUniverses confidence is not misplaced, this design could be based around the Galaxy S25+, but due for a later release. With discussions around a slimmer form factor of the Galaxy S25 to follow in the footsteps of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, we could be looking at a smartphone destined for that role rather than the mainstream role of the first S25 handsets. The push and pull of this debate will likely continue until mid-January when Samsung is expected to hold another edition of the Galaxy Unpacked events. This should include the Galaxy S reveal, alongside details on the next generation of generative artificial intelligence coming to Samsungs smartphones through Galaxy AI.Now read the latest news around Samsungs Galaxy S25, Googles Pixel 9, and Nubias Redmagic 10 Pro smartphones in this weeks Android news digest...0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 69 Ansichten

WWW.TECHSPOT.COMCorsair hints next-gen GPUs may be significantly more power-hungryForward-looking: Corsair wants to put concerns about powering next-gen graphics cards to rest. The company says its range of PSUs will be more than capable of powering the next generation of graphics cards. However, the real story here is the company's bold confidence a hint that Corsair might have the inside scoop on what Nvidia and AMD have cooking for their next high-end GPU launches. In a recent announcement, Corsair stated that its "award-winning range of power supplies will fully support the highly-anticipated next generation of graphics cards." They expect the 12v-2x6 GPU power connector standard to stick around for at least one more cycle.More significantly, Corsair anticipates that systems equipped with next-gen GPUs will require total power draws ranging from 750W to a whopping 1500W. To put that in perspective, the RTX 4090 one of the most power-hungry GPUs currently available has a TDP of 450W.If and when those new GPUs drop, Corsair says that it has you covered with multiple options across its lineup for both ease of installation and premium power efficiency. The fully modular RMe series with Gold-certified efficiency tops out at 1000W for "high-performance builds." If you prefer quiet operation, the RMx models have noise-dampening 140mm fans and are available up to 1200W. For the power-hungry enthusiasts, Corsair's flagship HXi series offers Platinum-rated efficiency and "top-tier electrical reliability" in capacities up to 1500W.However, the real story here is the confidence that Corsair has in its lineup. Its assurance that these power supplies are future-proof suggests that the company may have insider knowledge about what Nvidia and AMD are planning for their next wave of high-end GPU launches.Currently, most users pair the RTX 4090 with an 850W PSU. Doubling that recommendation to Corsair's maximum supported 1500W may seem excessive, but the announcement indirectly hints that next-gen GPUs will have higher TGPs. Earlier rumors from September suggested that the RTX 5090 could draw up to 600W. // Related StoriesBeyond this, issues with the 12VHPWR connector which caused some RTX 4090 connectors to melt might be pushing PSU manufacturers to go overkill. Nvidia has attributed the melting issues to user error though, caused by connectors not being plugged in fully, or so they say.All said, Corsair's grand pronouncements about their readiness may be our first big tease that these power-hungry GPUs are indeed headed our way soon. With the RTX 5080 and 5090 rumored for a CES 2025 unveiling, we should find out what's at play soon enough.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 55 Ansichten

WWW.TECHSPOT.COMTSMC prepares for next-gen chip manufacturing with high-NA EUV investmentsWhy it matters: TSMC's investments in EUV and high-NA EUV technologies are poised to shape the future of semiconductor manufacturing. These hefty investments will enable the production of increasingly powerful and efficient chips for a broad range of applications. TSMC was expected to receive its first high numerical aperture (high-NA) extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography system, the "EXE:5000," from Dutch manufacturer ASML in September 2024, according to Business Korea. While media reports vary on the exact delivery date some suggesting installation at TSMC's Hsinchu R&D center by the end of the year the precise timeline is less critical than the broader implications. The key takeaway is TSMC's evolving stance on this cutting-edge technology. Initially cautious, the company has now fully embraced high-NA EUV lithography to maintain its leadership in the fiercely competitive chip industry, where demand for AI-oriented ultra-fine processes is rapidly increasing.Adopting high-NA EUV scanners is pivotal for TSMC's development of sub-2nm processes. These advanced systems increase the numerical aperture from 0.33 to 0.55, enabling higher resolution and more precise patterning on semiconductor wafers.TSMC plans to incorporate high-NA EUV scanners into its 1.4nm (A14) process, which is scheduled to enter mass production in 2027.However, these advanced lithography systems will not be immediately operational. Rigorous testing, fine-tuning, and process optimization will be required before they can be integrated into high-volume manufacturing. // Related StoriesBy the time these systems become fully operational, TSMC is expected to have advanced to its A10 node, representing several technological generations beyond its current capabilities. This timeline aligns with TSMC's broader roadmap for advancing chip manufacturing processes.During TSMC's Q3 2024 earnings call, CFO Wendell Huang outlined the company's node development schedule. He stated, "We're ramping the N2 in 2026. There will also be some preparation costs for ramping N2. And as we migrate every leading node, more and more advanced, this preparation cost will become bigger and bigger."Each high-NA EUV system comes with a hefty price tag of approximately $384 million. Nevertheless, TSMC's technological leadership in high-NA EUV is expected to attract more high-profile customers seeking cutting-edge chip manufacturing capabilities. This could further widen the gap between TSMC and its competitors, particularly Samsung Electronics, which needs to catch up in securing high-NA EUV equipment.TSMC has already built a strong foundation with current EUV technology. The company's journey with EUV began in earnest in 2019 with the launch of its N7+ process, marking the industry's first commercial EUV lithography process. Since then, TSMC has rapidly expanded its EUV capabilities, with EUV systems growing tenfold between 2019 and 2023.The ASML team gathers outside their global headquarters in Veldhoven, Netherlands, to celebrate the milestone shipment of the first High-NA EUV lithography system, the TWINSCAN EXE:5000.The company now accounts for 56% of the global EUV installation base. The foundry giant has continued to leverage EUV in subsequent processes, including N5 and N3.Industry estimates indicate that TSMC operated about 10 EUV systems when it launched the N7+ process in 2019. TSMC acquired 84 EUV systems in 2022 and more than 100 in 2023.TSMC's approach to EUV adoption has been systematic and customer-focused. The company carefully evaluates new technological innovations based on their maturity, cost, and potential customer benefits before integrating them into mass production. "TSMC plans to bring in high-NA EUV scanners first for R&D to develop the associated infrastructure and patterning solutions needed for customers to fuel innovation," the company told The Register.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 56 Ansichten
