CD Projekt RED has made it a habit out of crafting massive, highly detailed open world experiences, and as youd expect, the developer doesnt intend to buck the trend with its next game,The Witcher 4, which has now entered full production. In fact, if anything, you can expect it to be an even bigger and more ambitious title than the studios previous open world megatons.Speaking in a recent interview with Eurogamer, CD Projekt REDs vice president of technology Charles Tremblay touched on the same, explaining that the studios current tech foundations after having adopted Unreal Engine 5 as its main production toolset will enable it to ensure that its next project is better, bigger, greater thanThe Witcher 3andCyberpunk 2077. And of course, as youd imagine, the studio also wants to ensure it avoids another disastrous launch likeCyberpunk 2077.I will not say its easy, but I think that we have some cool stuff going, and hopefully that will have some good showcase [of the technology], Tremblay said. The only thing I will say is that changing the tech for us does not change the fact that we always will be ambitious. And the next game we do will not be smaller, and it will not be worse. So it will be better, bigger, greater than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk because for us, its unacceptable [to launch that way]. Nightdive Studios The Thing: Remastered will receive new details at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted next week. However, in an interview with Syfy Wire, Mark Atkinson, the original games director, revealed a massive quality of life change: No more scripted infections for NPCs.In The Thing, NPCs could be infected, leading to them bursting out and becoming monstrous creatures. However, even if you protected them during battles, they would still burst out in infection as part of scripted sequences.Scripted burst-outs of previously uninfected NPCs were one of the biggest complaints in the original games. In The Thing: Remastered, we removed them entirely and instead make some NPCs more prone to infection, and if they still survive, they are so traumatized they cower and crack up. Crack up in this context refers to the victims entering an unstable state, which could lead to suicide, heart attacks, or attacking other NPCs.Nightdives software engineer Josh Dowell added, The infection system was implemented and available in the original game, but there were a few places where squadmates would become infected and burst out for no reason, which players really disliked. We removed those, so squad mates may only become infected by direct contact with a Thing beast.This is good news for the remaster and could significantly alter the course of the story. Theres still no release date outside of this year, but we could get a shadow drop on December 5th.
