As one DC Universe ends, another begins. Superman & Lois just wrapped up its final season on The CW, marking the official end of the Arrowverse, while last year's Aquaman sequel concluded the DC Extended Universe. The new DC Studios, helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, has officially begun. Whats kicking off this new era, officially titled "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters," you may ask? An animated series about a task force of monsters (not the Suicide Squad again, I promise). In his 8/10 Creature Commandos review, Tyler Robertson said the new show "introduces the new DCU with a story only James Gunn could cook up, balanced by high-energy animated action, outrageous humor, and strong, emotional character arcs."If youre wondering how or where to stream Creature Commandos online, take a look at the details below. PlayWhere to Stream Creature Commandos OnlineCreature CommandosCreature Commandos is streaming exclusively on Max. Max subscriptions start at $9.99/month (for the plan with ads, of course). Depending on what other subscriptions you have, Max can be bundled with Hulu and Disney+ or is available as a Channel Add-On through Prime Video. Creature Commandos Episode Release ScheduleNew episodes of Creature Commandos release weekly on Thursdays at 3am EST/12am PST. The show premiered with two episodes on December 5 and will run for a total of seven episodes. Based on that, here's what I predict will be the full episode release schedule for Creature Commandos Season 1: Episode 1: "The Collywobbles" - December 5 Episode 2: "The Tourmaline Necklace" - December 5Episode 3: "Cheers to the Tin Man" - December 12Episode 4: "Chasing Squirrels" - December 19 Episode 5: TBA - December 26Episode 6: TBA - January 2Episode 7: TBA - January 9What Is Creature Commandos About? The Creature CommandosCollects Weird War Tales #93, 97, 100, 102, 105, 108-112, 114-119, 121 and 124See it at AmazonCreature Commandos is based on DC Comics' team of monsters that first appeared in the "Weird War Tales" series. Originally created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick in the 1980s, the Creature Commandos also got a comic book revamp starting in 2000. In terms of existing DCU timelines, the Creature Commandos show takes place after Peacemaker Season 1 and will likely provide some setup for next year's Superman. For clarification, Season 1 of Peacemaker was still part of the DCEU, while Season 2 (coming in 2025) is part of the soft reboot. If you couldn't tell, the Suicide Squad era is where it all starts to get a bit confusing, and even James Gunn admitted that "DC Canon" shouldn't be essential for enjoying these shared universes. Creature Commandos Cast and CrewDean Lorey is the showrunner of Creature Commandos Season 1. All seven episodes were written by James Gunn based on the original DC Comics. • Creature Commandos Just Updated One of DC Comics Most Underused Hero Teams
    www.denofgeek.com
This post contains spoilers for episode one of Creature Commandos. When the Creature Commandos disembark a plane in the first episode of the series that bears their name, they think theyve arrived in a Disney cartoon. Leader Rick Flag Sr. (voiced by Frank Grillo) walks up to a palace, where hes greeted by Princess Ilana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova) of Pokolistan, a fictional European country. While Princess Ilana is a new character created for the show, longtime DC Comics fans might recognize her guards. They may not be called Gardner Grayle or Hollis Hobard, but those are the Atomic Knights, one of DCs strangest yet most persistent side characters.Creature Commandos presents the DC Universe as never before seen, and not just because the adult animation series launches Gods and Monsters, the inaugural chapter in James Gunn and Peter Safrans relaunched DC Universe of movies and TV series. Creature Commandos also maps out the world of DC heroes, reimagining concepts, locations, and characters from the companys almost 100-year history. The Atomic Knights made their debut in 1960s Strange Adventures #117, which introduced the team with a hyperbolic caption: World War III the great Atomic War is over and in its wake lies an Earth in ruins! Written by John Broome and penciled by Murphy Anderson, The Rise of the Atomic Knights reads like a standard bit of Cold War era apocalyptic fiction. Atomic weapons have bombed the world back into the medieval period, a wasteland in which (according to the narration), Might makes right!Under the leadership of Gardner Grayle, the Atomic Knights donned armor that had been irradiated for centuries to defend the powerless. They faced off against giant salt creatures and devolved cavemen, and rode on giant mutant Dalmatians. These stories have a certain Silver Age charm to them, but despite co-creating the Hal Jordan Green Lantern and the Barry Allen Flash, John Broome was never the most inventive writer. While the Atomic Knights concept had value, Broome really needed an artist like Gil Kane or Carmine Infantino to bring them to life.So it makes sense that DC would come back to the Atomic Knights time and again, trying to find a place to plug them in. DC enfolded the Knights into Jack Kirbys post-apocalyptic Kamandi stories, which made them a popular background characters. Grayle went toe-to-toe with Hercules in a story by Cary Bates and Walter Simonson and occasionally crossed paths with Superman and Wonder Woman.Grayle was later reimagined as a modern-day soldier in the U.S. Army who uses a suit developed by STAR Labs to become the Shining Knight of the reformed Seven Soldiers of Victory and then a modern day Atomic Knight, where he crossed paths with the Outsiders. As a weird Silver Age concept with connections to Jack Kirby, the Atomic Knights are also favorites of Grant Morrison, who reimagined them for his (still underrated!) Final Crisis event. Led by yet another take on Gardner Grayle, the Atomic Knights patrol Nightwings city Bldhaven, after it gets destroyed in an attack by the supervillain Chemo. Written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and penciled by Dan Jurgens, the 2006 miniseries Battle for Bldhaven portrays Grayle and the Knights as heroes defending the citizens of the irradiated city against various forces, including the secret organization SHADE. However, this version of the Knights gets devastated by a corrupted Mary Marvel in Final Crisis.Since then, the Knights have made background appearances alongside Kamandi and other figures from the Great Disaster, and Grayle did pop up in an episode of Black Lightning (played by Boone Platt). But outside of reoccurring in the Convergence crossover, Creature Commandos is the first major Knights appearance in almost two decades. The Pokolistani warriors in Creature Commandos may use the Atomic Knights style, but theyre not led by Grayle. Instead, their leader is a big goofball called Alexi, whose personality better recalls affable Russian Dmitri Pushkin aka Justice League International member Rocket Red than he does the stoic Gardner.Still, even in a different form, the inclusion of the Atomic Knights in Creature Commandos bodes well for the new version of the DC Universe that Gunn and Safran have created. They understand that the DC Universe isnt just a place where godlike figures such as Superman and Wonder Woman walk among us, or where the vigilante Batman guards the night. Its also a place where benevolent scientists like Will Magnus can create a robot woman who falls in love with him, where the government hires Frankensteins monster for black ops missions, and where a chimp is actually the worlds greatest detective. The combination of medieval chivalry and space age science fiction offered by the Atomic Knights probably isnt enough to carry its own series. But their inclusion makes the DC Universe more weird and wonderful. Creature Commandos proves that Gunn and Safran get that weirdness and are ready to make the DCEU into something wonderful.Creature Commandos streams every Thursday on Max.

  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: Starting Tips and Tricks for Your Adventure
    news.xbox.com
Its time to pack your whip, don your hat and embark on a journey in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, available in early access today for Xbox Series X|S consoles and Game Pass. While lifes greatest adventures rarely come with a manual, a little guidance here and there is often welcomed. As such, the Wire team has assembled some handy, spoiler-free tips, tricks and pointers to get you started on your escapades.Sights, Camera, ActionThe greatest mysteries and perplexing puzzles require documentation, and that rings true throughout Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, in which snapping photos is key. Once youve arrived in the Vatican, youre given the opportunity to purchase a camera, a tool that comes in extremely handy during Indys escapades, not just to progress the story, but to gain experience thatll unlock new perks and skills.Virtual TourismWhen youre in an area that contains a historical artefact or point of interest, a camera prompt will appear on the screen. Take that as a sign to stop and absorb your surroundings, and look for notable design, artefacts or items to get a quick snap of. Doing this contributes to your Adventure Points, which when combined with the various knowledge books that youll find or purchase throughout the world, can be spent on upgrading your skills, everything from melee abilities to stamina capacity. These will come in super handy if youre enjoying being creative with the vast range of melee options on display.Helping The LocalsAs you navigate through lively streets in several locations, youll hear the mumblings of NPCs discussing notable landmarks, or people that theyd like a visual reminder of. Pay close attention, as capturing photos of those places and characters and handing them back to the characters who mentioned wanting that visual can rack up those Adventure Points.Never Be Empty-HandedWhile Indy can and will use just about anything he can get his hands on as a weapon- shovels, dustpans, wooden spoons, flyswatters, hammers sometimes youll find yourself empty handed. Not really though! While your trusty revolver doesnt have a silencer, it does have a quiet mode, by pressing X while your handgun is drawn, Indy will flip the grip, allowing for an effective pistol whip. A word of warning, he can only thwack a fascist a handful of times before the gun will get bent out of shape. Fortunately, you can fix it right up with those Repair Kits youll be finding all over the place. Its Ok To Walk Away (for now)Indiana Jones and the Great Circles levels are densely packed with secrets, puzzles, and treasure, and its well worth your time to chase down all the Mysteries, Discoveries, and Fieldwork you encounter, both for the rewards they yield, and the fact that theyre just plain fun to do. While players will usually find everything they need to open containers such as locked chests close at hand, along the way, intrepid explorers are likely to run into locked doors, dead ends, or other mechanisms they just cant figure out in the moment. In those cases, our counterintuitive advice: keep moving.Often times, following the main thread of a story will result in new areas becoming accessible, doors opening, etc. Additionally, areas teeming with enemies become much more welcoming as Indy collects disguises allowing him to fit in where his trademark fedora makes him stand out. Even better, characters will let you know when you should tidy up loose ends in an area, so until that point, just go with the flow without fear of missing out.Brawn Over BrainsWhile Indys (and therefore your) brain is certainly his strongest weapon, sometimes direct application of force is the best bet. In your travels, you may find little padlocked wooden boxes scattered. Dont bother looking for a key when a hammer will do; if the reticle turns red, try smashing instead! Likewise, a sledgehammer is not only an effective weapon, it can also take down a fragile wall so keep an eye out for crumbling masonry whenever you happen upon one.We hope our guidance proves helpful as you begin your own adventure in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, available in early access today.Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: Digital Premium EditionBethesda Softworks$99.99Get it nowPre-order now or Play on Game Pass* to receive The Last Crusade Pack with the Traveling Suit Outfit and Lion Tamer Whip, as seen in The Last Crusade. *** Live the adventure with the Premium Edition of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle! • How The Thing: Remastered Remains Faithful To 2002s Adaptation
    news.xbox.com
John Carpenters iconic 1982 horror classic The Thing has inspired countless creators over the years, including Computer Artworks, the studio behind 2002s The Thing, a video game adaptation that takes place after the events of the film.In the game, Captain J.F. Blake leads a team of U.S. Special Forces in an investigation of Outpost 31. There, Blake and his crew must defend themselves from hostile alien life, and each other, as infections arise.Despite being released 20 years after the 1982 film, The Thing has become more of a challenge to revisit than its original source of inspiration. While you can easily purchase or stream the film, 2002s The Thing often requires nostalgic gamers to track down a physical copy along with the necessary hardware to play it on.This is where Nightdive comes in with The Thing: Remastered, available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today. Its a revitalization of the almost-lost game that stays true to the creators original vision. Understanding The Source MaterialNightdives goal is to bring lost and forgotten games like The Thing back from the depths. Not only so people can revisit their favorites on modern platforms like Xbox Series X|S, but also to preserve these games for future generations.Game preservation is something I recently stressed the importance of while writing about Killing Time: Resurrected, and the same remains true for The Thing: Remastered. All games deserve to be preserved, but preservation isnt as simple as applying a fresh coat of paint. One of the challenges in using remasters as a form of preservation is keeping the remaster as faithful to the original as possible. With this in mind, Nightdive worked closely with members of the original Computer Artworks staff, including art director Ron Ashtiani and technical director Mark Atkinson, both of whom are well-versed in the game they helped create and the 1982 film.Id seen the film before the project, but re-watched it multiple times when we started the game, explains Computer Artworks technical director, Mark Atkinson. We wanted to preserve the feel of the movie and what made it scary in terms of a survival horror. For Ron Ashtiani, the movie scared the hell out of me, but also sparked my interest in sci-fi horror. He went on to reflect how ahead of its time the film was. It was made before the days of studios relying on an abundance of CG effects to wow the viewer. In addition to being ahead of its time visually, The Thing benefited from the captivating performance of actors like Kurt Russel and Keith David, and well-written screenplay courtesy of Bill Lancaster.I think one of the reasons The Thing still holds up is due to the lingering mystery at the end who was the Thing? Its a smart movie, a masterclass in cinema, remarks Joel Welsh, art lead on The Thing: Remastered at Nightdive Studios. While its not required to watch The Thing before playing The Thing: Remastered, it does help broaden your knowledge of the peril Captain J.F. Blake and his team face as they explore Outpost 31. Both from alien creatures, and each other.Every scene was carefully detailed to make you wonder and be suspicious about everyone the whole time, says Grover Wimberly IV, Nightdives project manager and producer on The Thing: Remastered. For fans of Nightdive games who havent had a chance to watch The Thing, Id suggest watching before diving into the game.Remastering With The MastersMark Atkinson oversaw many technical aspects with 2002s The Thing in addition to contributing to the games original design and coding alongside Computer Artworks talented team of engineers. Working on The Thing: Remastered with Nightdive, Atkinson took on a similar role.On the remaster, Ron and I were involved from the start, resurrecting the old code and master quality art assets, and helping guide the Nightdive team, e.g. what was intentional vs. where we just ran out of time to polish, notes Atkinson. The remaster adds many significant upgrades in terms of gameplay, level design, UI, HUD etc., which go beyond a simple 4K reskin. Ron and I gave the green light to all of that, as well as consulting Andrew Curtis, the original game designer. In practical terms, I did a significant amount of C++ work as we wanted to really take the opportunity to make the remaster as good as possible. When asked about his experience working on 2002s The Thing, Ashtiani recalls, I joined the art team at Computer Artworks just after the game was fully signed after a successful prototype. Back then, art teams werent siloed into specific fields, but I mainly worked on the environments and built around half of the levels in the game.Again, Ashtiani reprised this hands-on role with The Thing: Remastered: My role with Nightdive has been to co-lead the art team as the vision holder for the look of the game. I worked on setting the art direction for the remaster and ensuring that while we remaster the graphics and art assets, we dont lose the essence of the original game. And this is important, because the essence of the original is inherently special. For the entire team, not just the artists, 2002s The Thing needed to align with the 1982 film, and that took making the most of the technology and tools that were available at the time.We did the best we could with what we had, Ashtiani explains. We put a lot of work into capturing the isolation of the Antarctic and created a host of new and interesting creatures. However, lighting was an area we couldnt match until the remaster. As well as the technical limitations, time constraints also contributed to some of the quirks players encountered in 2002s The Thing, which Atkinson says has been addressed in the remaster.People loved the original game, but had some legitimate complaints, e.g. the scripted burst-outs, the difficulty is uneven, the combat was a little janky, the boss fights werent great, admits Atkinson. We went hard on fixing all that. The Thing: Remastered also benefits from the addition of modern gameplay elements such as third-person aiming, quick select wheels, the ability to use a controller on PC, and more. In terms of difficulty, Atkinson notes, the game is still fairly hard, but not in such an uneven and sometimes frustrating way as the original. Theres also the option now for players to select an easier difficulty setting, further expanding the games approachability.Seconding this, Ashtiani says the remaster is true to 2002s The Thing, but with improved gameplay balancing, control systems, UI improvements, among other quality-of-life adjustments.Graphically, its a big leap forward, Ashiani adds. Weve been able to use all the lighting technology of today, plus higher resolution models and textures. We even managed to add some assets that were cut from the original game, creature variations in particular.A Team EffortHaving a team you can trust is important, not only when attempting to survive in the world of The Thing, but also in developing a quality remaster. Trust, communication, and teamwork between the original developers and the developers at Nightdive Studios were integral in resurrecting 2002s The Thing. We made it a point to make sure Ron and Marks input were taken throughout the development process by consulting and having them at our team meetings when discussing adjustments, enhancements, and fixes to make sure it fit the spirit of the original 2002 release, explains Wimblerly IV.Ron and Mark certainly left their mark, along with the rest of the team, praises Welsh. This is Nightdive/Ataris most ambitious remaster to date, and we hope Xbox players have a blast with it. Just remember: No One Survives Alone! You dont have to take our word for it, though. Whether youre a fan of 2002s The Thing, or simply want to check out a classic game you previously missed out on, youll be able to pay an eventful visit to Outpost 31 when The Thing: Remastered releases on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S today. The Thing: RemasteredNightdive StudiosGet it nowNo One Survives Alone. The 2002 third-person survival horror shooter that serves as a sequel to the genre-defining 1982 film is back, remastered by Nightdive Studios to bring this innovative blend of fast paced squad action meets survival horror to the modern era. Including Antialiasing, Per Pixel Lighting, 4K Resolution and up to 120 FPS.Where the movie ended, the true terror begins. You are Cpt J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and enigmatic deaths of the American scientific team that transpired at the Outpost 31 research facility located in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. Within these inhospitable surroundings your team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. Trapped by the elements and infected by this horrific entity, using all your team members is critical if you hope to accomplish your objectives, let alone survive. • Beadboard vs. WainscotingWhat are They and How are They Different?
    www.countryliving.com
Applying millwork to walls is a sure-fire way to wake up a sleepy room. Just like the exterior architecture of a house visually expresses a homes style, amped-up walls of interior spaces also add character cues. Beyond sheet rock thats painted or wallpapered, decorative paneling in the form of beadboard and wainscoting adds texture and brings another dimension to rooms. But while beadboard and wainscoting both refer to decorative wall treatments, the terms are often confused and they do not mean the same thing. Here, well dive into beadboard and wainscoting definitions alongside examples of ways to use them to express your style.Jump to:Find Even More Ideas For Decorating With Wood:Whats the Difference Between Beadboard and Wainscoting? Its easy to confuse beadboard and wainscoting because they are often misused interchangeably, but they are not synonymous terms. Beadboard refers a specific type of wall cladding that is made of narrow planks usually placed vertically on the wall. Wainscoting is a broader term that describes any type of molding (beadboard, board-and-batten, and V-groove are among some of the common types) that covers a portion of a wall. In other words, beadboard is the material that can be used as wainscoting. What is Beadboard? Beadboard refers to thin, narrow strips of wood (or a material that mimics the look of wood such as medium-density fiberboard, PVC, or vinyl) with a rounded bead edge that runs the length of the grooves between each strip. Historically, beadboard dates back to the Victorian era. It was made inexpensively from wood scraps and was used to insulate and protect walls in high-traffic areas. Today, beadboard paneling, commonly available in 4- by 8-foot sheets with planks measuring 2 1/2 inches wide, is used as a decorative element, applied to walls to add charm, texture, and architectural interest. From historic homes to new houses, beadboard spans myriad styles ranging from coastal capes, cottages, and bungalows to cabins and farmhouses. Nick JohnsonWhat is Wainscoting?Wainscoting describes decorative wood molding that covers a portion of a wall that is typically painted or stained. The height of wainscoting can vary, but it usually follows a one-third ratio in height, leaving the remaining wall available to paint or wallpaper. Historically, wainscoting was functional: It helped to insulate rooms and protected walls from damage. For example, a chair rail is the molding cap at the top of the wainscot positioned at the height of the back of a chair (about the bottom third of a wall) to protect the walls from bumps. Often, the wall that is exposed above the wainscoting is painted or wallpapered.RELATED: 35+ Wainscoting Ideas to Add Character to Every Room in Your HomeThree Types of WainscotingFrom cozy charm to relaxed formality, these three forms of wainscoting help set the stage of a room. Raised Panel. This traditional style of wainscoting, which first became popular in 17th-century England, features panels set flush against surrounding trim with raised beveled edges around each panel, almost mimicking a repeating picture-frame effect on the wall. The style can veer more formal and polished, paired with stately antiques in dressed-up dining rooms of Colonial and Victorian homes, or it can project a relaxed formality, mixed with warm woods and rustic furniture in the well-trodden entryway of a country house. Stacy Zarin Goldberg Beadboard. Used as wainscoting, beadboard brings instant nostalgia to a room without overtaking it. The narrow vertical boards can add height, for example, by running the wainscot up two-thirds of a wall. Beadboard wainscoting is a go-to solution for adding interest in the smallest of places such as a mudroom or a secondary bathroom.Brie Williams Flat Panel. This streamlined style of wainscoting is the opposite of the raised panel there are no beveled edges and the panels are recessed in symmetrical sizes along a portion of a wall. The style is casual yet organized and commonly seen in Craftsman-style bungalows. • Meet Modern Noir, the New Furniture Collection That Will Add Drama to Your Decor
    www.elledecor.com
In the movies, noir is dark, moody, dramatic, and trs chic. The pieces in Modern Noir, the latest furniture line from Four Hands, more than live up to that descriptionwith strong emphasis on the chic part. Drawing inspiration from early-20th-century French Deco, the collection leans into rich materials and deep colors to create a setting any mysterious femme fatale would look right at home in. To help you get a feel for the collection, weve given cameos to eight key players below. Just scroll down and enjoy the show.1Katya SofaLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMLike much of the Modern Noir line, the sumptuous Katya sofa is three parts classic, one part twist. The squared-off arms and sleek cushions, free of buttons or decorative piping, make it timeless, while the back, with its unique floor-level cutouts, provides visual surprise.2Julius Swivel ChairLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMIt will be nearly impossible to walk past this shearling-upholstered chair without sinking into its soft embrace. (At the very least, youll want to run your hand along it as you stroll by.) The fact that it swivels a full 360 degrees means its as versatile in your rooms layout as it is tantalizing to the touch.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below3Umair Coffee TableLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMClassic elements regularly mix with more modern details in the Modern Noir line, to suitably edgy effect. In this solid-oak coffee table, for example, lathe-turned knob-style legs ground the design in tradition, while two delicately curved, MCM-evoking bumpers add lilt to the surface.4Attrition, by Paul MeyerLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMPaul Meyers father was a homebuilder, so the Austin, Texas-based artist grew up around construction sites and developed a fascination withand respect forcement, mortar, and wood. Eventually, these and other similarly prosaic materials found their way into his fine-art paintings, resulting in intriguingly textural mixed-media works.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below5Jayla Armless Dining ChairLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMHere, midcentury design signaturesthe joinery of the tapered front legs, the frames gentle bentwood constructionare paired with contemporary updates such as a sling-style back, cushiony seat, and performance fabric. The result is comfortable, durable, and unique.6Valen Dining TableLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMThe substantial Valen is an intriguing departure from typical dining-table design. Its top is neither oval, round, square, nor rectangularits pill-shaped. The exaggerated cylindrical legs nod to the idea of a pedestal base but take it in a striking direction. And somehow the blunt, almost primitive design works beautifully in the most refined of rooms.Advertisement - Continue Reading Below7Winslet SconceLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMIn plush, cocoon-like rooms, you want light sources that set an evocative mood. The slender swan neck of this sconce strikes a graceful note that calls to mind old-style streetlamps. Brass boning beneath the linen shade shows through when the bulb is lit, adding even more ambience.8Marnie Chaise LoungeLEARN MORE AT FOURHANDS.COMRecline like yours is a life of leisure in this modern take on the traditional, French-inflected chaise. An undulating shape, chenille-like upholstery, and enveloping back and arm rests create a luxurious place to loll.

  • Mark Our Words: These Gen ZApproved Design Trends Will Be Hot Next Year
    www.elledecor.com
The Gen Z population is a hard nut to crack. Realistically, who can keep up with what the words rizz, bussin, and ate mean, unless you have kids, were born between 1997 and 2012, or are chronically online? Here at ELLE DECOR, though, we stay in the knowhaving demystified what Charli XCX's Brat summer was, jumped on the very demure, very mindful bandwagon back in August, and otherwise kept in touch with all things hip, cool, and TikTok-powered.One area Gen Zers are consistently vocal about is home design. After all, according to 2024 Redfin statistics, though Gen Z homeownership rates have stagnated last year, they still outpace those of older individuals back in the day. Specifically, homeownership rates for Gen Zers between the ages of 19 and 25 are higher than what was the case for millennials and Gen Xers when they were the same age. This is to say: The fresh-faced generation is moving into homes (and renting apartments!) of their own, so of course they have an opinion or two about what's hot and what's cheugy.Want to get your own digs to Gen Zapproved levels in 2025? Look no further than these four data-backed trends, which are bound to come out on top as the calendar turns. You'd be delulu not to follow them.Lavish and OrnateAndreas von Einsiedel//Getty ImagesA rococo revival powered by Gen Z? Shocking, we know, but something were so here for!Think Gen Zers are simpletons who are content with Ikea furniture? Think again: Thanks to them, next year will see a kind of rococo revival. According to the Pinterest Predicts 2025 Trend Report, full-of-frills aesthetics will manifest across both fashion and homewith the latter evident particularly in ornate tablescapes. Case in point: The search term rococo party experienced a 140-percent increase on Pinterest in between September 2022 and August 2024, and is set to continue on that trajectory. I think there is a huge shift right now for Gen Z starting to get into dinner parties and hosting, says Margot Lee, lifestyle influencer and founder of the Gen Zfocused home brand No Particular Order, which recently launched conversation coasters that help spark meaningful connections during such gatherings. It's no easy feat to 'scape the perfect baroque-inspired table or channel rococo vibes in interiors overall, but Gen Zers are clearing those hurdles by sourcing dated objects in antique stores and beyond (more on this later!). Ive noticed a lot of mixing old and new, where people are mixing thrifted finds with more modern elements, Danielle Carolan, New York-based content creator and host of the podcast AM Uncovered, tells ELLE DECOR. Platforms like Facebook Marketplace and thrift shops have made finding vintage items easier and affordable, so people can experiment with these styles without a big commitment.Whether it be hosting a full moon dinner party with an over-the-top, luxe centerpiece situation or adorning their living rooms with bronze candelabras that look straight out of Bridgerton, Gen Zers are tapping into the more is more ethos without ever entering tacky territory.Cherries on TopDouglas FriedmanCherries take center stage in the bathroom of Andy Cohens old West Village apartment, featured on the pages of our October 2017 issue. He was ahead of the curve!Food-themed art and design always had cultural staying power, and one look at Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans is all that's needed for confirmation of this fact. The culinary fascination we'll be seeing all over the place in the world of home decor next year is cherries (yes, cherries!).Per Pinterest, cherry vibe rose in searches by 325 percent, cherry bedroom experienced a bump of 100 percent, and dark cherry red spiked 235 percent. Scrolling through TikTok makes these numbers tangible: There are popular videos of cherry ornamentladen Christmas trees, disco ball cherry DIY tutorials, and even cherry-themed front door vignettes. One explanation for this? Cherries are bold and life-affirming, which is Gen Z's preferred design direction. Ive noticed Gen Z gravitates toward brighter, mood-boosting colors, says Carolan. ELLE DECOR A-List designer Jessica Davis echoed that sentiment last month: People are really diving into rich colors with jewel undertones.Another reason is that Gen Zers simply aren't afraid of having a little fun. For a long time, designers and home experts believed we had to follow specific design rules to achieve attractive interiors, home style expert and HomeGoods Featured Finder Ursula Carmona tells us. This generation is all about infusing their existing design style with personality and whatever speaks to them.WGSN, one of the worlds top trend forecasting agencies, is predicting a more generalized rise of fake food interior design decisions next year, across items like trompe-loeil candles, stationery [and] also furniture and room decor, according to a press release. Cherries fit squarely into this growing obsession.Paint your bedroom walls cherry red, top your bed with some cherry throw pillows, or else keep it subtle via cherry cocktail picks (like these ones from Anthropologie) during your next soiree. Either way, you're in for a sweet, juicy treat.No. Big. Lights.McKenna BarryOne way to achieve the dreamiest level of ambiance possible, while reducing harsh overhead lights? Investing in a shower lamp, a trend started by content creator McKenna Barry. No big lights. It's all ambiance and lamps, says Lee, referring to Gen Z's revulsion with doctor's officeadjacent overhead lighting, epitomized by the viral TikTok sound that declares one should never (ever, ever) use the big light.Maura Clark, lighting expert and owner of an eponymous lighting design studio, weighs in: What I've been seeing for residential [spaces] is we are shifting away from exposed lighting. There's a lot more focus on diffusion.A big no-no is having only having one type of light in the room, she continues. You want to have different types of light sources because that also is part of mood enhancement.Gen Z's take on lighting is not your grandmother's recessed can lighting situation. This generation is making spaces softer and moodier vis--vis sunset lamps, floor lamps, and even tabletop firepits. The proof, as it turns out, is in the pudding (or, in this case, the data). The leading service platform Taskrabbit's 2024 Trend Report, compiled by analyzing thousands of Taskrabbit bookings made by Gen Z and beyond, mentions that requests for hanging lights are up by 42 percent. According to the platform, mood lighting iskey. The element of diffusion mentioned by Clark can be created with fabric lampshades (this is a kitchen trend we're predicting for 2025, btw!), plug-in wall sconces, and more. A key non-negotiable? Having lighting that's easy on the eyes and makes you excited to return to your cozy abode each and every evening.Secondhand StealsMaskot//Getty ImagesOne thing about Gen Z is that theyre going to be hitting all the antique stores. While older folks might peg today's youngins as careless, Gen Z design trends are actually nothing if not thoughtful. I think that there is a lot of curation happening for Gen Z. Every single item that enters Gen Z space is so considered, says Lee.This is achieved primarily through an emphasis on secondhand, vintage furniture finds versus hitting up household name retailers for, say, a new nightstand. Lee taps into the Gen Z thought process: It's like, okay, this is kind of the vibe that I want to go for. I know that I might be changing my style or my aesthetic throughout the year, but I'm going to look at Facebook Marketplace because that's a more sustainable way to cycle through styles and recycle furniture.Oftentimes, secondhand takes on a highly personal meaning. Basically everything in my apartment is secondhand or custom. The desk that I have [here] is my favorite piece of furnitureit was my grandmother's desk when she was an English school teacher, Lee shares. If you've been following our contentand keeping up with Internet happenings in generalthis trend should come as no surprise. The boom of the #furnitureflip hashtag on TikTok, representative of the larger phenomenon of people sourcing antiques and giving them 180-degree changes, proves that vintage furniture acquisition is hot right now (regardless of what's done with it after purchase). And it's not exclusive to Gen Z tastes, either. Designers everywhere are also riding the vintage wave. Anthony Barzilay Freund, editorial director at e-commerce powerhouse 1stDibs, tells ELLE DECORcommenting on 1stDibs's 8th annual designer trend survey, which polled 643 international interior designersthat vintage furniture continues to have broad appeal, even in rooms that skew heavily contemporary. Furthermore, over eighty percent of respondents reported that they used at least one piece of furniture from the 1920s through the 90s in their design schemes.Gen Z is an enlightened generation and, just as its members are wary of fast fashion, so too do they give mass-produced home objects the cold shoulder. This approach, in turn, is environmentally conscious and guaranteed to add instant charisma to any home. Just think about how a distressed side table adored throughout generations, whose patina is proof of this love, would look. Then envision a cookie-cutter one with a plain, white, glossy finish. Enough said.Stacia DatskovskaAssistant Digital EditorStacia Datskovska is the assistant digital editor at ELLE DECOR, where she covers news, trends, and ideas in the world of design. She also writes product reviews (like roundups of the top firepits or sheet sets)infusing them with authority and wit. • Brazilian court overturns injunction imposed on Apples App Store
    9to5mac.com
Following a report earlier today about Apple appealing a Brazilian antitrust regulators ruling on the App Store, the Brazilian courts decided on Thursday night to overturn the injunction imposed on Apple, which would have forced the company to enable sideloading on iOS for Brazilian users within 20 days.Apple gets more time to deal with Brazilian regulators ruling on App StoreAccording to a new Valor Econmico report, a Brazilian Federal Court judge has ruled that the decision by Cade, the Brazilian regulator, is disproportionate and unnecessary. The judge understood that the measures imposed by the regulator change, in a sensitive and structural way Apples business operation.Cade ruled on November 26 that Apple would have 20 days to comply with antitrust legislation, otherwise it would be fined R$250,000 (US$42,000) per day. Apple had previously appealed on the grounds that the changes requested were too complex and would take too long to be made, so the company wouldnt be able to meet the 20-day deadline. For the judge, the technical complexity of the changes and the global regulatory impacts of similar decisions in other regions, such as the European Union, reinforce the need for such changes to be discussed in greater depth. In theory, Apple would have to implement in Brazil changessimilar to those it already made in the European Union earlier this year, which include allowing App Marketplaces as alternatives to the App Store. In response, Apple said that the Brazilian regulators decision drastically threatens users privacy and security and called it arbitrary.Cades investigation began after Latin American e-commerce giantMercado Libreaccused Apple of forcing developers offering digital goods or services in their apps to use Apples own payment system. Cade is also investigating Apple for the practice of tying by imposing anti-competitive terms and conditions on iOS.Although the judge overturned the injunction, the Brazilian regulator can still appeal and the investigations will continue, which means that Apple could still be forced to enable sideloading in Brazil although the company has been given more time to deal with the situation.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed.
