  • Hackers hijacked legitimate Chrome extensions to try to steal data
    www.theverge.com
A cyberattack campaign inserted malicious code into multiple Chrome browser extensions as far back as mid-December, Reuters reported yesterday. The code appeared designed to steal browser cookies and authentication sessions, targeting specific social media advertising and AI platforms, according to a blog post from Cyberhaven, one of the companies that was targeted.Cyberhaven blames a phishing email for the attack, writing in a separate technical analysis post that the code appeared to specifically target Facebook Ads accounts. According to Reuters, security researcher Jaime Blasco believes the attack was just random and not targeting Cyberhaven specifically. He posted on X that hed found VPN and AI extensions that contained the same malicious code that was inserted into Cyberhaven. Other extensions possibly affected include Internxt VPN, VPNCity, Uvoice, and ParrotTalks, as Bleeping Computer writes. Cyberhaven says hackers pushed an update (version 24.10.4) of its Cyberhaven data loss prevention extension containing the malicious code on Christmas Eve at 8:32PM ET. Cyberhaven says it discovered the code on December 25th at 6:54PM ET and removed it within an hour, but that the code was active until December 25th at 9:50PM ET. The company says it released a clean version in its 24.10.5 update.Cyberhavens recommendations for companies that may be affected include that they check their logs for suspicious activity and revoke or rotate any passwords not using the FIDO2 multifactor authentication standard. Prior to publishing its posts, the company notified customers via an email that TechCrunch reported Friday morning.

  • BB Studio GB Studio for NES
    gamefromscratch.com
There is a new fork of GB Studio, the popular Game Boy game engine, called BB Studio that can now target the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). BB Studio is described as:BB Studio is a heavily-hacked version of the awesome GB Studio by Chris Maltby. It replaces the Game Boy target with the NES (the Game Boys Big Brother). You are strongly advised to already be familiar with the original GB Studio, before trying out BB Studio. If you are looking for the original GB Studio, the friendly downloadables can be foundHEREand the source code can be foundHERE.There are some differences you need to be aware of when developing a NES game instead of a Gameboy game:You have more screen space: 256240 instead of 160144. This can change the look and feel of your GBC game quite a bit, for better or worse. The edges of the screen will be partially cropped on a real TV this varies depending on TV model. You can only use half the number of background and sprite palettes in a scene. (for now)NES background palettes also require the first color to be the same across all 4 background palettes.Typically black is a good choice for the shared background color but your mileage may vary. The exception is palette 7. This is only used for UI, and has 4 unique colors. The NES has a limited number of total colors, and the RGB colors entered in the UI will be automatically converted to NES colors when building. They may sometimes be off from what you intended. The next version will have an option for specifying NES colors directly, to remove the guesswork of RGB -> NES color mapping. The NES graphics chip allows much fewer sprites / scanline than the GB/GBC. So you need to be much more frugal with placing sprites on the same horizontal line. The 6502 CPU may struggle to keep up with the double-clocked GBC CPU. If your game already tends to lag when running in monochrome DMG mode, it will probably struggle on the NES as well.More optimizations are planned for the next version.Key LinksBB Studio GitHubGB Studio HomepageYou can learn more about GB Studio and BB Studio for the NES in the video below.

  • What to Expect From Nintendo in 2025
    www.ign.com
Soon it will be 2025, also known as the year Nintendo finally pulls back the curtain on its next console. After 2024 was filled with shaky rumors, alleged leaks, and nonstop speculation about the Nintendo Switch successor, we know for a fact Nintendo will share more about the next generation in less than 100 days. If thats not exciting enough for you, the Nintendo Switch still has a few cards up its sleeve and 2025 will finally see the launch of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, eight years after its initial announcement. And, as always, there will surely be some surprises along the way, with some possibly tied to a certain plumbers 40th anniversary. Heres what to expect from Nintendo in 2025.IGN's Twenty Questions - Guess the game!IGN's Twenty Questions - Guess the game!To start:...try asking a question that can be answered with a "Yes" or "No".000/250Nintendo in 2025: Whats Already On the BooksBefore we get into Switch 2, lets recap what we already know is coming to Switch in 2025. Nintendo has been incredibly consistent at publishing a Switch game most months for the last two years, and while Im not sure theyll keep up that pace to the same degree in 2025, we already know about a fair number of games coming in the next few months.January 16 marks the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, a remaster of the 2010 Wii platformer that includes the extra levels from the 2013 3DS port. Thats right, this is the third time Nintendo is selling us Country Returns and its now been more than a decade since the last original Donkey Kong Country game with Tropical Freezes launch on Wii U. Hopefully Donkey Kongs recent inclusion in Nintendos movies and theme parks will eventually result in a brand new video game, but for now youre getting Country Returns again, and you better like it. As someone whos bought and played both previous versions, it really is a fantastic platformer and one worth trying if youve never played it before.PlayWere getting another HD remaster on March 20, but this one is much more exciting. After years of fan demand, Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition is finally landing on Switch, meaning the entire Xenoblade Chronicles series will be available in one place. Xenoblade Chronicles X is the odd one out in the series: Its not directly tied to the trilogy and it was doomed to originally release on Wii U back in 2015, so this second chance at life will be many players first chance to dive into this enormous open world RPG. The visually enhanced Definitive Edition also adds brand new story content longtime fans will surely dissect and theorize about for years to come.Right now, those are the only firm release dates we have for Nintendo in 2025, but there are a few huge games coming sometime in the coming months. That includes Pokmon Legends: Z-A, Game Freaks return to the Legends subseries after Arceus successfully shook things up back in 2022. We still know very little about what Legends: Z-A will entail, other than it centers around an urban redevelopment plan in the Kalos Regions Lumiose City from Pokmon X & Y, and that Generation VIs Mega Evolution is set to return in some way. Pokmon took a much needed year off in 2024 so its exciting to see what Legends: Z-A will look like after taking a bit more time in the oven. One big third-party Nintendo Switch exclusive worth shouting out is Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2025. Its the big return of Professor Layton and his assistant Luke after more than a decade out of the spotlight. Im hopeful it will actually make it out on time Level-5 has been a bit too eager to announce release windows before games are actually ready, but whenever this finally comes out it will be an exciting return for a series thats always been heavily associated with Nintendo.PlayThe final TBA 2025 game on Nintendos calendar right now is the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. First announced at E3 2017, Prime 4 was MIA for years before its re-reveal at Junes Nintendo Direct. Prime 4 is coming from Retro Studios, developers of the original Metroid Prime trilogy, and it features the return of Sylux, a villain first introduced in the Nintendo DS spinoff Metroid Prime Hunters. The most recent trailer is absolutely gorgeous and I cant wait to see how the full adventure shapes up later this year.Well Know More About Switch 2 in Less Than Three MonthsEnough messing around, lets get into what youre all here for: the Nintendo Switch successor. Last May, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that Nintendo would make an announcement about the Nintendo Switch successor within this fiscal year. Nintendos fiscal year ends on March 31, meaning that were expecting an official unveiling sometime within the next 90 days or so. Other than Nintendos recent confirmation that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the Switch 2, the company has been very quiet about what the console will actually be like. However, March might not be the end of the story. Its possible we will get a quick teaser trailer before the end of this fiscal year, similar to the Switchs reveal trailer in October 2016, followed by a full presentation ahead of the official launch. Or Nintendo might tell us everything we want to know right away, which is the best-case scenario. Either way, Im confident well get a big presentation at some point this year with all the answers were looking for.Last time Nintendo held a big in-person event in Japan to properly unveil the Switch, which was broadcast live around the world. Im expecting a slightly different strategy this time as I think Nintendo will stick to its prerecorded Nintendo Direct-style presentation to show the successor off. But I think the information presented will be largely the same, where Nintendo will likely share information on the following:NameRelease DatePriceLaunch day/window game lineupSpecificationsUnique featuresPlayAs for what these console details will actually be, your guess is as good as mine. But I can almost guarantee the Switch successor will launch before the end of 2025 as I dont see a world where Nintendo announces it as early as March and waits until 2026 to release it. And Im personally expecting the Switch successor to be very iterative of Nintendo Switch, maintaining the hybrid design that made it such a global success.A new console means new games and Nintendo is definitely cooking up a big lineup for the next consoles first year. Not counting projects it was a co-developer on, Nintendos internal development teams only put out one game last year: Splatoon 3s Side Order DLC. Its clearly been full steam ahead on Switch 2 games for a while and Im expecting some heavy hitters at launch and in the first year of Switch 2.We are well overdue for a new 3D Mario because its been nearly eight years since Super Mario Odyssey. That was the last brand new 3D Mario apart from Bowsers Fury, which was a bite-sized expansion added onto 3D Worlds Switch release in 2021. Im confident Nintendo is setting up the next 3D Mario to be the Switch successors must-have game at launch, to get all of the hardcore Nintendo fans snap up the new console right away. And it just so happens that 2025 is the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., and given how big Nintendo went for the 35th anniversary in 2020, I think its a safe bet that Mario will be front and center at the next console launch. But what about Mario Kart? Were even more overdue for a brand new Mario Kart entry given that its been 11 years now since Mario Kart 8s original release. Yes, we got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Tour, and the Booster Course Pass in the time since, but its still been way too long since a wholly original home console Mario Kart. I go back and forth between thinking 3D Mario or Mario Kart is the big launch game, but either way I think we get both before the consoles first holiday season. Right now, Im feeling a 3D Mario at launch as the big single-player showcase game, with Mario Kart coming just a bit later to get families interested in picking the console up over the holidays. As much as everyone loves Mario though, Nintendo will want to diversify its launch lineup beyond its most iconic character. I could see some sort of Zelda remake or remaster in the cards to get that franchise represented as soon as possible on the next hardware, with the two most likely candidates feeling like an Ocarina of Time HD remake or a Breath of the Wild remaster that runs at a solid 60 fps. I think its a safe bet that Mario will be front and center at the next console launch.Im also expecting Nintendo to unveil some sort of brand new IP to hit the console at launch or shortly after. The Wii had Wii Sports, Wii U had Nintendoland, and Switch had 1-2-Switch, so there will likely be some sort of casual, family-friendly experience to show off what the new hardware can do.Im also hopeful we might get a glimpse of Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurais new mystery game at some point in 2025. Sakurai dropped one of the biggest plot twists of 2024 when he revealed that he prepped his entire YouTube channel in advance and has been secretly working on a new video game since early 2022. Its been in development for three years now so its not out of the realm of possibility that a reveal is planned for sometime this year. Its most likely the next Smash Bros., but I would love to see Sakurais take on a more niche Nintendo series like Star Fox or F-Zero. Speaking of F-Zero, I wouldnt be surprised if Switch 2 is home to a remaster of F-Zero GX or an entirely new game in the series. Nintendo has been building up hype for the F-Zero series for the last year now, first with the release and continued updates in F-Zero 99, followed by the addition of nearly every game in the series to the Nintendo Switch Online game catalog. I feel like its accelerating toward something big for the series and theres almost no better way to show off new, powerful hardware than a gorgeous, futuristic racing game running at a perfect framerate.Switch 1 Support Will ContinueAll eyes will definitely be on Switch 2 in 2025 but Nintendo will continue to support its 140 million-plus Switch 1 install base with new games. We already discussed the Switch games we know are coming in 2025 but there will certainly be more reveals as the year goes on. Im expecting Kirby to show up on Switch 1 in some way its been two years since Return to Dreamland Deluxe either through a remaster of a fan favorite like Kirby Planet Robobot or an entirely new game. I also think it could be time for Nintendo to wheel out some of its smaller series and Ive got a feeling in my bad knee that Rhythm Heaven could finally make its Switch debut this year in a similar fashion to Rhythm Heaven Megamix showing up on 3DS after the Switch was already out.PlayCould Next Level Games Show Up?Luigis Mansion 3 developers Next Level Games have put out a new game every three years since 2013. The studios last full game was Mario Strikers: Battle League in 2022, meaning 2025 is the year for its next project if this development cycle pattern is to continue. It could be time for Luigis Mansion 4 on the Switch successor but given how much Mario I already think is in the cards for 2025, I could also see this game getting unveiled at some point for a release sometime in 2026. While I definitely think some studios will continue developing games for the older Switch hardware, I firmly expect to see Next Level Games new project on the next console and wouldnt be shocked if we get a glimpse of it in 2025.Nintendos Entertainment Endeavors ContinueFinally, Nintendo is much more than a video game company at this point and it has some solid entertainment plans lined up for 2025. Super Nintendo World is set to open in Florida this May and it includes the Donkey Kong Country expansion thats currently exclusive to Universal Studios Japan. And Nintendo is opening its second stateside retail store when Nintendo San Francisco opens at Union Square sometime this year. scheduled to hit theaters in April 2026 so Im guessing well get the first trailer for the sequel sometime before the year is up too.PlayAnd thats everything we expect from Nintendo in 2025. Are you ready for the Switch 2 or are you still excited about the Switch 1 games we know about? Let us know in the comments. And for everything else Nintendo, switch with IGN.

  • iPhone 18 Fold: Heres what we know about Apples first foldable product
    9to5mac.com
Rumors about foldable iPhones have circulated for many years, but recent reports have suggested that Apple is finally getting closer to announcing its new product. Apple is reportedly working on two foldable products, a clamshell foldable iPhone and a giant 20-inch foldable iPad, but the foldable iPhone is on track to debut first.Screen detailsApples first foldable iPhone is reportedly going to be a clamshell folding device, something akin to the Galaxy Z Flip or Motorola Razr with a display size similar to a typical phone, just with the ability to fold inwards and be smaller in your pocket. Recent reports from The Wall Street Journal have suggested that the foldable iPhone will have a screen size larger than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, meaning itll offer an at least 7-inch display:The company is also planning two foldable devices, the people said. A larger device, intended to serve as a laptop, would have a screen that unfolds to be nearly as large as some desktop monitors, at about 19 inches. A smaller model would unfold to a display size that would be larger than an iPhone 16 Pro Max, intended to serve as a foldable iPhone, the people said. Some internal challenges with developing a foldable have included reducing crease visibility, improving the hinge, and creating a good material for the display cover. Apple aims to have all of this figured out by the time they release.Foldable marketApples first foldable iPhone will reportedly bolster a declining foldable market, according to the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).From 2019 to 2023, the foldable market enjoyed a staggering 40% year over year growth rate. However, the group believes thatll slow significantly to around 5% growth in 2024, and the market will actually begin facing a sales decline beginning in 2025:DSCCs latest report on the foldable and rollable/slidable display market for all display applications shows that the foldable smartphone market has stalled. After enjoying at least 40% growth per year from 2019-2023, DSCC now believes the foldable smartphone display market will rise just 5% in 2024 and fall by 4% in 2025. Demand has stalled at around 22M panels. However, the group believes that Apple stepping into the market could cause a rapid increase in foldable demand, as the company could bring new functionality to the table. Ive personally heard many people state that they like the concept of the Galaxy Z Flip, but just cant ditch their iPhone.Release dateAccording to multiple sources, Apples first foldable iPhone will debut in the second half of 2026, likely alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. This presumes there arent any more developmental delays. Earlier this year, Apple assigned a new V68 codename to the project suggesting that this product has moved past just the prototyping stage, and we should expect to see it in our hands sometime soon. • Bloom Nutrition Greens Review 2024: Is the Trendy Brand Really Worth It?
    www.cnet.com
If you're a TikTok user, then you've probably seen the buzzy health brand Bloom Nutrition in ads or "day in the life" videos. The company is known for its greens powder, which it claims will boost immunity, promote digestive health and relieve bloating. Here's my honest Bloom greens review.I was supplied with two flavors of Bloom Nutrition's Greens and Superfoods powder. As someone who already drinks powdered greens every morning, I've experienced the benefits of starting the day with an extra serving of vegetables, plus added vitamins, nutrients, probiotics, antioxidants and adaptogens (herbs that help you respond to stress better) -- all ingredients found in the best powdered greens. Since consistently drinking powdered greens, I've noticed increased energy, and I feel my gut health has improved, too.I stopped drinking my regular powdered greens brand to try the social media-famous greens powder for a week. Here is my honest Bloom Nutrition greens review. What are powdered greens? Upgrade your inbox Get cnet insider From talking fridges to iPhones, our experts are here to help make the world a little less complicated. Powdered greens are a dietary supplement that help you get your recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals found in vegetables and superfoods. People often turn to powdered greens as an easier way to obtain fruits, leafy greens and other vegetables. In addition, powdered greens often include probiotics, nutritional extracts and herbs.Greens powder is added to 8 to 12 fluid ounces of water, smoothie or other beverages to be consumed. If you don't like the taste, try masking it with your favorite tea, juice, milk, lemonade, yogurt or protein shake. What is Bloom Nutrition? I recommend using an electric mixer to mix your greens powder with your favorite beverage. Caroline Igo/CNETBloom Nutrition was founded in 2019 by a married couple who wanted to create health supplements with high-quality ingredients that actually taste good. Today, Bloom Nutrition offers a greens powder, collagen peptides powder, whey isolate protein, pre-workout, high-energy pre-workout, matcha, mood lift vitamins, fish oil supplements and multivitamins. For this review, I only tested Bloom's Greens & Superfoods blend. The powder supplement is gluten, dairy and soy-free. One 5-gram scoop of greens contains 15 calories, 3 grams of carbs, 2 grams of fiber, 0.6 milligrams of iron and 5 milligrams of sodium. The powder then contains seven different blends of various nutrients. There is 1,606 grams of a fiber blend, 1,367 grams of a green superfood blend, 648 milligrams of a pre and probiotic blend, 572 milligrams of a fruit and vegetable blend, 550 milligrams of an antioxidant blend, 150 milligrams of a digestive enzyme blend and a 100 milligrams adaptogenic blend. Depending on the flavor, the greens also contain 57 to 95 milligrams of stevia extract. What does Bloom cost? For any flavor, a 30-day tub of Bloom Greens & Superfoods costs $40, and a 60-day tub of any flavor costs $75. That price doesn't include shipping. However, there is free shipping on orders over $50 to anywhere in the US if you order through Bloom's website or you may be able to get free shipping at Walmart or through Amazon Prime. There's also an option to subscribe to Bloom Nutrition and save 10%. If you opt to subscribe, you can have Bloom shipped to your door every 30, 60 or 90 days. You can change, pause or cancel your subscription at any time. Bloom says this option guarantees delivery even during sell-outs and gives you access to exclusive deals and gifts.Flavor and texture I tried the original and citrus flavors. Caroline Igo/CNETThe flavored Bloom Greens & Superfoods powder is very sweet. Compared to the original flavor, the citrus flavor is by far the best. I first tried both flavors with only water, and the taste of the original was too earthy for me. The citrus flavor was better but a little too sweet for my liking. After some trial and error, I found that the best way to drink Bloom greens was by adding it to orange juice. (I only have to add water to the powdered greens I drink every morning in order to enjoy it.) There is a lot of stevia extract in one little scoop, and I'm not a fan of the extreme sweetness, so I needed something to help hide that flavor. No matter the Bloom flavor you choose, I recommend mixing it with juice or a smoothie. You won't be able to consume it with water alone. The texture is a little gritty, but depending on what liquid you use to mix, it's barely noticeable. It's especially helpful if you have a whisk or small electric mixer to help blend it. However, I found that if you don't drink it in less than 5 minutes, the greens powder will separate and sink to the bottom. I didn't like that since the powder and flavor became too concentrated toward the end of the drink.Does Bloom work?I can't say for certain whether Bloom works. I didn't see any changes in bloating (didn't see improvements, but also didn't worsen symptoms). While Bloom Nutrition claims to aid in bloating and digestion, these claims haven't been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. I only tested the product for a week, and there's a possibility that if I tested the product for longer, I would have seen more results. I also didn't take it at the same time each day. For best results, try to drink your powdered greens around the same time. That being said, Bloom could have the potential to work, but the servings of crucial vitamins, minerals, probiotics and adaptogens are not potent enough. For example, the best probiotics on the market contain between 100 million to 50 billion colony-forming units. Bloom's added probiotics don't list a CFU at all. In addition, Bloom has a 1,606-gram fiber blend, but the listed amount of dietary fiber is only 2 grams, making up only 7% of the daily recommended amount. When comparing Bloom with another popular powdered greens brand, AG1, the competitor contains 7,388 milligrams of a superfood blend and 2,732 milligrams of herb and antioxidant blend. Both of these are almost double what can be found in Bloom. Two scoops equal one scoop of the competitor. Lastly, the nutrition facts on the back of the Bloom Greens & Superfoods container also don't tell you how much of what is in each blend.Where to buy Bloom NutritionThanks to its growing popularity, Bloom Nutrition can be purchased through its website, Amazon, Target or Walmart. It may also be found at your local grocery, pharmacy or department stores. Is Bloom really worth it? Caroline Igo/CNETHere's what you need to know before buying Bloom Greens and Superfoods powder.Pros of Bloom Nutrition Greens:More affordable compared to other green powder brandsManufactured in a CGMP (Certified Good Manufacturing Practices) facilityGluten-, dairy- and soy-freeCons of Bloom Nutrition Greens:Strong artificial tasteLacks potent pre- and probiotics, vitamins and mineralsCan't replace fresh servings of fruits and vegetablesIf you're considering any of Bloom Nutrition's products, I would first encourage you to look into similar products on the market. Chances are there are better alternatives out there. However, compared with top powdered greens brands like AG1 Bloom Nutrition is moderately priced. If you're just getting into powdered greens and are looking for somewhere to start, Bloom may be the option for you.On the other hand, if you need a dietary supplement to aid nutritional gaps in your diet, this powdered greens brand is not for you. While there is added fiber and iron in one serving of Bloom, there isn't nearly enough to make a difference for someone who has an iron deficiency or needs more fiber. There aren't enough added vitamins, nutrients or probiotics either. In my opinion, you're better off adding an extra vegetable serving to your daily diet.

  • Stearns & Foster Lux Estate Mattress Review 2024: Experts Test Handcrafted Comfort, Available Online or In-Store
    www.cnet.com
8.0 /10 SCORE Our Verdict Our Verdict Best for: Score Breakdown Pros and Cons Pros Hybrid construction is supportive for all body types The pillow top feel provides perfect balance of neutral comfort Firmness options accommodate all sleeper types Luxurious design is perfect for a more upscale bedroom setup Cons Not for those who want more of a simple, all-foam mattress Not for sleepers who want a dense memory foam bed Not for those who are on a strict budget Table of Contents The ultimate goal when looking for a new mattress is to find one that you want to use for years. When our team first tested a Stearns & Foster mattress, the hand-stitched embroidery, the durable support system and the cozy pillow top, each part of it was worth appreciation. When I learned that you could try these beds out in local shops, that was an added bonus -- sometimes you just need to lie down on a bed before throwing your wallet at it.That particular mattress is now long gone, so this year we decided to see whats new with the brand. After I reached out, the folks at Stearns & Foster kindly sent us the medium pillow-top version of the Lux Estate, and Im happy to report that quality-wise, not much has changed. This is one of nicest and most luxurious-looking beds weve received in recent years. And when it comes to how the bed feels, it gets better. In this review, Ill cover everything you should know about this bed, including who our team thinks its best for.First impressions of the Lux Estate mattress Dillon Payne/CNETThe Stearns & Foster Lux Estate is white-glove delivered for free. The bed showed up full-sized at our office with a delivery team that was ready to set it up and take away our old bed. Being online mattress reviewers, we didnt quite need all the amenities included in the delivery process and opted to set it up ourselves. All we did was rip off the plastic, place it on our frame and the bed was ready for testing.Upon our initial tests, it became clear that this is a generally accommodating and comfortable pillow-top mattress. It just feels like a fancy hotel bed or something that youd find in an upscale Airbnb. The coils on the bottom provide all body types with plenty of support, while the pillow top offers a nice amount of comfort and cushion. This is the type of mattress that you look forward to lying down on after a long day.Stearns & Foster mattress firmness and feelWhat does the Lux Estate mattress feel like? Dillon Payne/CNETAs it's a more luxurious style of pillow-top mattress, this bed has a generally comfortable pillow-top feel. It offers a neutral balance of comfort with equal support and pressure relief. It doesnt feel like a dense memory foam mattress, and its not spongy or ultra-springy like a latex foam bed. It has more of a neutral feel thats also premium and cozy.Id compare the feel of the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate to other more luxurious pillow-top beds like the Saatva Classic or even The WinkBed mattress. These are the types of pillow top beds that practically anyone can sleep on because they're so accomodating. Getting a bed with a neutral style of mattress feel is always a safe way to go, especially if youre unsure what feel youd prefer your next bed to have. If you really want to see how this bed feels for yourself before you buy it, you can check it out at your local retailer. How firm is the Lux Estate mattress? Jon Gomez/CNETThis bed is available in a variety of firmness and comfort choices. Over at CNET Home, We have the PT Medium model, and would place it between a medium and a medium-firm on our scale. This firmness ranking makes the mattress a suitable choice for all sleeper types, with a slight support advantage for primary back and stomach sleepers.Firmness is a subjective thing. We rank how firm a bed is based on the size of an average person, but you could find the bed to have a different firmness if youre much heavier or even on the more petite side. Luckily, you have two other firmness renditions of the bed available with a pillow top. There's also a standard version of the mattress, which is a bit firmer, but also more affordable -- these more luxurious beds can cost a pretty penny.Stearns & Foster Lux Estate mattress construction Dillon Payne/CNETThis is a premium pillow top mattress is around 14.5 inches thick and composed of the following materials:1. On the bottom, youve got a thin layer of base foam to serve as the starting point for the mattress.2. Then youve got the beds main support system of individually wrapped coils. These are even reinforced along the edges of the bed to provide sleepers with a sturdy perimeter.3. Next, youve got a couple more responsive transition foams. These act as buffers between the support and comfort layers of the mattress.4. Above that, youve got one of the beds primary comfort layers, which is a memory foam. Interestingly enough, the brand actually collaborated with Tempur-Pedic to produce this one-of-a-kind foam, which gives the bed ample pressure relief and cushion. 5. On top, the bed is wrapped up in a stretch-knit tencel cover with some additional comfort elements quilted in. Its quite soft, breathable and balances everything out with neutral, accommodating comfort. Dillon Payne/CNETLux Estate mattress performanceMotion isolationGood motion isolation is important if you or your partner are easily woken up by the slightest movements at night. Personally, I tend to toss and turn, which can sometimes jostle my fianc out of her peaceful slumber. In this case, youll want a bed that can isolate that motion, so it doesnt transfer to the other side as much. The Lux Estate performs fine in this regard. Theres no excessive amount of motion that reverberates through the bed, at least based on our tests. If motion isolation is a top priority for your next mattress search, the two of you might have better luck with a memory foam bed -- those are the best for this issue. Still, the Lux Estate should deaden a good amount of motion for most couples.Edge-to-edge supportSince the coils that run along the edges of this mattress are designed to be extra-durable and reinforced, the Lux Estate from Stearns & Foster has superb edge support. When I applied my full weight to the edges, I observed no sagging at all and felt fully supported by the beds perimeter -- which is saying something, Im a bigger dude. If your partner likes to hog the sleeping surface and youre forced to hug the edges of this bed at night, you shouldnt have any issues with falling off the Lux Estate. Dillon Payne/CNETTemperatureThough the stretch-knit tencel cover on the Lux Estate is designed to be more breathable than your average mattress cover, wed still classify it as a temperature-neutral sleeping mattress. To us, this isnt an active-cooling bed, but it also shouldnt warm up on you or your partner excessively. The thing to remember about temperature regulation is that it usually depends on other exterior factors rather than the bed itself. If cooling is a concern for you or your partner, you can always check out our Best Cooling Mattress for Hot Sleepers list.DurabilityThis is a premium pillow-top mattress thats handcrafted in the US, so it should be a durable bed thatll likely last your relationship for many years to come. The average lifespan for a bed is around seven to 10 years, but I could see this bed easily surpassing that time frame given its high-quality construction. That said, to get the most out of your bed long-term, I always recommend rotating it once every six months. That way, you can avoid lumps in certain areas and the sleeping surface will remain evenly balanced.Who is the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate mattress best for? Dillon Payne/CNETI highly doubt youd find this mattress uncomfortable if you lie down on it in your local Mattress Firm, but it still might be the bed of everyones dreams. Heres who we think the Lux Estate is best for.Sleeping positionI think combination sleepers who like to rotate between all sleeping positions throughout the course of a night will enjoy this option the most. The beds medium to medium-firm profile presents sleepers with equal parts pressure relief and support, making it versatile enough to work best for this preference. If youre a back or stomach sleeper who prefers something a bit firmer, youll likely get even more out of it. Based on our observations, these sleepers tend to prefer firmer beds since they offer more support. If youre a side sleeper, I highly recommend getting the PT Soft version, since it will offer the most amount of pressure relief for your shoulders and hips at night.Body typeThis is a durable hybrid bed thats designed to withstand a lot of pressure from night to night. For this reason alone, the Lux Estate should be supportive enough to handle all body types, including much heavier people. If youre interested in checking out other supportive options, feel free to peruse our list of best beds for heavy people.Stearns & Foster Lux Estate mattress pricing Size Measurements (inches)PriceTwin Long 38x80 inches$3,499Queen 60x80 inches$3,599King 76x80 inches$4,199Split King 76x80 inches$6,998Cal King 72x84 inches$4,199Split Cal King 72x84 inches$6,998 Theres no getting around it, this bed is expensive. Both have a similar traditional pillow-top feel and arrive at your home with complimentary white-glove delivery. In terms of differences, the Saatva Classic is available in three firmness options, while the Lux Estate from Stearns & Foster technically has four. However the Saatva Classic has a dual-coil construction, and a lumbar support feature. It's also considerably more affordable after a discount for a queen size. Stearns & Foster vs. The WinkBedAnother comparable bed to the Lux Estate would probably be the WinkBed. Its another popular pillow-top bed with a more luxurious aesthetic. If you want a mattress that you can try out in a store before you buy, and which shows up with free white-glove delivery, not many options can top it -- just so long as youre aware of the price tag.You might like the Lux Estate mattress if:You want a supportive hybrid mattressYou want a traditional pillow-top feelYou want a bed thats available in a few firmnessesYou dont mind spending up for a more luxurious bedYou might not like the Lux Estate mattress if:You're looking for an all-foam mattressYou prefer the feel of a dense memory foam mattressYoure searching for an active-cooling bedYoure on a tight budgetStearns & Foster mattress FAQs How thick is the Lux Estate mattress? This bed is around 14.5 inches thick, which is a little thicker than your average mattress found online. I often recommend investing in deep pocket sheets if your bed is over 15 inches thick. Luckily, this bed falls just shy of that mark, so you should be completely fine using a normal sheet set on this option. Show more Is Stearns & Foster a luxury brand? When it comes to luxurious mattresses, it doesnt get much better than Stearns & Foster. Show more How long does the Lux Estate mattress last? Being a well-made pillow-top mattress, the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate should last you for at least the next seven to 10 years, if not much longer. Hybrid beds are often thought to last longer than all-foam beds since steel coils last longer support-wise over time. Given its quality construction, I wouldnt be surprised if this bed endured past the 10-year period -- especially if you regularly rotate the mattress. Show more
