Calls for Costco boycott mount after board upholds DEI commitment
Costcos Board of Directors is standing up for its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. As a result, Trump loyalists are vowing to boycott the retailer, while some are applauding the brands commitment to inclusivity.Last week, the company urged shareholders to reject a proposal from the National Center for Public Policy Research, which describes itself as a conservative think tank. The proposal called for an end to Costcos DEI programs, arguing that such initiatives are discriminatory. Its clear that DEI holds litigation, reputational and financial risks to the Company, and therefore financial risks to shareholders, the group wrote in a proposal. The push comes after the Supreme Court ended affirmative action in 2023, essentially paving the way for DEI programs to be banned in the workplace, as well. However, Costco didnt bend to the groups proposal. Our Board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary, the board wrote in response. It continued, Our success at Costco Wholesale has been built on service to our critical stakeholders: employees, members and suppliers. Our efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion follow our code of ethics. After the statement emerged, the MAGA backlash was swift. Pro-Trump filmmaker Robby Starbuck called for conservatives to boycott the retailer. For now, I suggest conservative consumers find other places to spend their money if Costco is so dedicated to doubling down on DEI, Starbuck posted on X (formerly Twitter). If theyre smart, Costco will do right by their shareholders and change before we turn our attention to them.A post from X user AJ Huber, which shared Costcos statement and called for a boycott, quickly went viral. Hell no! Absolutely not! the user wrote in a post that has been viewed over 96.7K times at present. Boycott Costco! Cancel your membership! Nothing can stop We The People to Make America Great Again! While the backlash was widespread, others applauded the move. In a post with 50.4K views, Nadine Smith, a civil rights activist, wrote, If you crumble when your values are tested, they werent values, they were marketing campaigns. Well done, Costco! Many other social media users shared that they would be joining for the first time or renewing their Costco memberships. In its decision to uphold DEI practices, Costco set itself apart from a number of companies, like Ford, Lowes, Boeing, Caterpillar, Harley-Davidson, Polaris, John Deere, Jack Daniels, and Molson Coors, that all decided to ditch the programs in 2024.A major retailer, Walmart, also turned its back on DEI. Walmart said it was willing to change alongside our associates and customers who represent all of America, in a statement to FOX Business. The statement continued, Weve been on a journey and know we arent perfect, but every decision comes from a place of wanting to foster a sense of belonging, to open doors to opportunities for all our associates, customers and suppliers and to be a Walmart for everyone.

How the creator of Wallace & Gromit brought the franchise back for the next sequel
The cheese-loving English inventor Wallace and his loyal dog Gromit have been stars since the beginning. In the 35 years since Nick Park introduced the world to his stop-motion creations and their eccentric, unapologetically British existence, theyve won Oscars, appeared in commercials, video games, animated series and even the occasional bit of (unofficial) protest art. Feature films, however, have been few and far between. Part of the reason is the difficulty: Even a 30-minute short can take upward of two years. Besides, why mess with a formula thats produced only classics? After working on the pairs first feature, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which was released in 2005 and won an Oscar, and Early Man, Park even doubted that hed dabble in the form again. But sometimes inspiration requires a little more breathing room: Thats how the second Wallace & Gromit feature film, Vengeance Most Fowl, came to be. It debuts on Netflix worldwide, except in the U.K., on Friday. The seed of an ideaGnomes have always been part of Wallace and Gromits world. After The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Park started kicking around an idea about a smart gnome, Norbot, built to help Gromit in the garden. There was something a bit missing, Park said. We tinkered around with the story on and off for years and it seemed to be lacking the more sinister element thats often in Wallace & Gromit. Why do the gnomes go wrong? Who was the motivated villain?Five years ago, the solution came to them: Feathers McGraw, the conniving penguin with a penchant for heists and simple disguises, who turned their lives to chaos in The Wrong Trousers. He was the answer to everything, Park said. The story got bigger and more exciting. Suddenly it became a feature-length film. The problem with Feathers McGrawOver the years, Park and his co-director Merlin Crossingham often heard fan requests to bring Feathers back.Wed been very noncommittal about it because characters havent in the past come back, Crossingham said. But when we did drop a little teaser trailer, we were completely bowled over by the response. At that point, we were still making the film and it kind of gave us a boost and that confidence that it was the right thing to do.They needed it too since Feathers McGraw, like a true diva, was by far the most difficult puppet to animate, direct and light this in a movie that has chase sequences, special effects and an army of evil gnomes. The simplicity of his design, and the fact that he doesnt speak, gave them no room to hide. In fact, in their world-class group of animators at Aardman, Park said only five volunteered to work on Feathers. All the filmmaking tricks have to come together very well to make Feathers have that screen presence that we needed from him, Crossingham said.Keeping the Britishisms alivePart of the charm of the Wallace & Gromit films is their unabashed Britishness, which the filmmakers have had to fight (politely) to preserve as their audience has become more and more global. While Netflix was largely supportive, they did have a bit of a back and forth over the turn of phrase Flippin Nora! (They ultimately kept it.)A lot of the stuff in the films is inspired by stuff we grew up with, the design of things, little products, Park said.He was particularly happy to include a high-speed barge chase on the canals and a joke about police at the Yorkshire border melding uniquely British references with big Hollywood movie tropes.I think all of it is a sort of a lovely homage to Britishness and not in a patriotic way, just kind of laughing at ourselves culturally, Crossingham said.Stop-motion animation in a CGI worldThe starting point for all scenes was always the traditional: In camera, stop-motion animation like theyve been using since 1989. It is, Crossingham said, fundamentally vital to the films to see the thumbprints on the characters and know that theyre handmade. There have always been limitations, and the option to use more digital assistance, but its only been in recent years that computer graphics have caught up enough to blend in. Effects like fog and steam are possible in stop-motion, but, they explained, they never look quite right. The main thing we required was that if we were going to use a digital technique, could we force it to look right for our film rather than it just being bolted on and feeling like an accessory that was a bit of an unwelcome guest, Crossingham said. The visual effects department at Aardman worked very hard to get that stylizing so that it felt right in Wallace and Gromit, in which and the sets and the props are characters in themselves. The tension between embracing technological innovation like artificial intelligence and preserving the old ways that still work was not just something they were thinking about off-camera. Its at the heart of the film too, as Wallaces well-intentioned invention turns against him (and wreaks havoc on the town). Its a bit meta, Crossingham said. I think theres something that resonates with audiences with stop-motion that they can tell its handcrafted, they can tell thats the human touch.Park said he used to worry about the future of stop-motion, wondering how much time they had left. Recently, though, hes seen a resurgence. As long as were telling good stories, entertaining and compelling stories with compelling characters, well keep going, he said.By Lindsey Bahr, AP Film Writer

Ski patrol strike for higher wages snarls the countrys largest ski resort
Holiday skiers at Utahs Park City, the biggest U.S. ski resort, reported on social media that they were encountering long lift lines and some closed trails on Tuesday as a strike by ski patrol workers entered its fifth day.Nearly 200 ski patrol and safety workers are on strike over demands for higher pay at Park City Mountain Resort, which is owned by Vail Resorts Inc, demanding an entry-level base wage of $23 an hour, up from the current $21, according to an emailed statement from the ski patrol union. This week is the busiest ski week of the year.Park City remained open on Tuesday, and many of the ski patrol were still working, Vail Resorts said in an emailed statement. The company said it does not disclose staffing figures. Vail Resorts said its common for some trails and lifts to be closed at this time of year. Thats especially true this year, given the resort has received less snow than in the recent past. The union, the Park City Professional Ski Patrol, said in its email that there are typically 120 people on patrol, but that on Tuesday there were between 30 and 35.The union, in a post on social media, said Vail Resorts had flown in scabs from other resorts to work at Park City.Sara Huey, a spokesperson for Vail Resorts, said in an email that the company had met 24 of the unions 27 demands since the ski patrols contract expired in April. She provided no specifics on the demands the company had not met.Huey said Vail had increased ski patrol wages by more than 50% during the past four ski seasons, pushing the average hourly wage to over $25.The 7,300-acre ski resort did not sell same-day lift tickets on Monday, but resumed the same-day tickets on Tuesday, Huey said.Vail Resorts operates more than three dozen ski resorts, including Vail and Breckenridge in Colorado, Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada, and Stowe in Vermont.Reporting by David Gaffen in New York, Heather Timmons in Washington and Brad Brooks in Colorado; Editing by Leslie Adler.

Unreliable leakers agree on unlikely 'iPhone 16E' name for iPhone SE 4
Apple's iPhone SE line has existed since 2016 as an entry-level option, but a couple of leakers with poor accuracy suggest a new name is coming for Apple's 2025 budget model.iPhone SE 4 is rumored to resemble iPhone 14There is no doubt that an iPhone SE 4 is due in early 2025. It is rumored to have the iPhone 14 design, but with a single rear camera.Apple's naming scheme for the iPhone SE hasn't changed in its eight years and likely won't because of simple brand power. Yet two leakers think Apple might try to utilize a stronger brand to promote the budget model. Rumor Score: B#$&(*it Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

US sanctions Russian group over AI-generated election disinformation
The US has issued sanctions on organizations in Russia and Iran for attempting to interfere with the 2024 presidential election. The Treasury Department said on Tuesday that the groups tried to stoke socio-political tensions and influence voters. One group, the Moscow-based Center for Geopolitical Expertise, has ties to Russias Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), and built a server to host its own AI tools to avoid foreign web-hosting services that would block their activity. The organization then used these tools to quickly create disinformation that it spread across dozens of fake online news outlets, while also providing US-based companies with money to maintain its AI server and operate a network of at least 100 websites used in its campaign.Additionally, the Russian organization manipulated a video to produce baseless accusations concerning a2024 vice presidential candidate. In October, the US accused Russia of creating a video that attempted to smear Vice President Kamala Harriss running mate, Tim Walz.RelatedThe Treasury Department also sanctioned the Cognitive Design Production Center, a subsidiary of Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), for planning to interfere with the election since at least 2023. In the weeks leading up to the election, the US Department of Justice indicted Iranian nationals accused of waging a cyberattack against President-elect Donald Trumps campaign, while OpenAI reported banning ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian influence operation. The Governments of Iran and Russia have targeted our election processes and institutions and sought to divide the American people through targeted disinformation campaigns, Bradley Smith, the Acting Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said in the press release.

Popeye and Tintin are now in the public domain
Its a new year, and that means more works are headed to the public domain. This year, thousands of copyrighted works created in 1929, including the earliest versions of Popeye and the Belgian comic book character Tintin, are now free to reuse and repurpose in the US.Duke Law Schools Center for the Study of Public Domain has once again rounded up all the most iconic works that have been freed from the bounds of copyright, which also includes sound recordings from 1924. As pointed out by Duke Law School, 1929 was a particularly pivotal year for film, as it was the first with sound. These are just some of the works entering the public domain this year (you can view the full catalog here):The Skeleton Dance from Disneys Silly Symphonies short film seriesAlfred Hitchcocks first sound film BlackmailNacio Herb Browns Singin in the Rain and the film it appeared in, The Hollywood Revue of 1929On With the Show, the first all-talking feature-length film in colorWilliam Faulkners The Sound and the FuryAgatha ChristiesSeven Dials MysteryErnest HemingwaysA Farewell to ArmsVirginia WoolfsA Room of Ones OwnVarious works from Salvador Dali, including Illumined Pleasures,The Accommodations of Desire, andThe Great MasturbatorThe list also includes Popeye, who first appeared in E.C. Segars Thimble Theatre comic strip, with a story titled Gobs of Work. But this Popeye isnt the one that eats spinach to grow big muscles; the brawny sailor didnt start eating spinach to gain strength until 1932 (though the very first Popeye could still pack a punch). Everything that he says, all of his characteristics, his personality, his sarcasm thats public domain, Jennifer Jenkins, the director of Dukes Center for the Study of the Public Domain, told NPR. The spinach, if you want to be on the safe side, you might want to wait. The earliest version of the young reporter Tintin and his pup Snowy (or Milou if you speak French) from Hergs Les Aventures de Tintin are also headed to the public domain. But folks in the European Union, where protections apply throughout an authors life and 70 years after death, will have to wait a little longer for a copyright-free Tintin. Since Herg died in 1983, the EU wont see Tintin in the public domain until 2054, according to Duke University. As with previous years works, this latest round of media couldve appeared in the public domain much earlier, but US lawmakers in 1998 extended copyright protections to works from 1923 and beyond for an additional 20 years conveniently protecting Disneys mascot Mickey Mouse. But Disney couldnt keep its iconic mouse all to itself forever, as the Steamboat Willie-era Mickey entered the public domain last year. Were getting even more Mickey Mouse animations in 2025, including the short film The Karnival Kid, where Mickey Mouse dons his white gloves for the first time and speaks his first words: hot dogs.Just like with Mickey and Winnie the Pooh, were bound to see games and movies starring Popeye and Tintin as people try to draw attention with the freshly available characters. Even Netflix is preparing an adaptation of Agatha Christies 1929 novel The Seven Dials. There will be an even wider range of classic characters to use next year, with Betty Boop and Pluto set to enter the public domain in 2026.

Is Sleeps Dopesmoker still the heaviest album of all time?
Sleeps Dopesmoker is legendarily heavy. On any halfway decent sound system, itll rattle your ribcage. Its sort of like being slowly assaulted by a massage chair. In 2015, Guitar World named it the heaviest album ever recorded. You will definitely not find anything heavier, wrote Ethan Varian. On November 6th, for no reason in particular, I was in the right mood to accept that challenge.I wanted a riff that would flatten me. I listened to 26 extremely heavy albums, recommended by friends and strangers. Four challengers made it to a semi-final round, where I listened to them back-to-back followed by Dopesmoker. One album was so heavy I did the back-to-back listen three times. And I have to say: Ive found something heavier. But to begin, we have to discuss heavy as an aesthetic.Heavy is, somehow, not the same as brutal or aggressive. The point is getting bludgeoned: rhabdomyolysis, osteolysis, being left crushed on the pavement.Heavy is, somehow, not the same as brutal or aggressiveDopesmoker is the standard Im measuring against. Its such an intense album that if Im listening to Dopesmoker, thats pretty much all Im doing. The 2022 version of the album, a remaster for streaming services, consists of two songs: Dopesmoker and Hot Lava Man.Dopesmoker the song is more than one hour long. It is characterized by a pounding megalithic riff, which varies slightly on each repetition. It is possibly the loudest minimalist composition I have ever heard. The guitars are downtuned two steps from standard tuning, which makes them sound denser. There is a ton of bass that often echos the guitar and makes it sound even heavier. The song moves like a granite statue come to life. The guitar, the bass, and the vocal track all move together like a hymn. It takes eight minutes to get to the iconic first line: Drop out of life with bong in hand. The vocals sound like chanting. The drums are recessed in the mix the cymbals are whats most noticeable and fairly simple.Dopesmoker is thick. Its also slow. Thats what makes it so visceral. The guitar solos, while excellent, are not really responsible for heaviness. Mostly, they render the riffs heavier by comparison. If I had to isolate a common musical lineage among all the albums, its Black Sabbath. (Duh?)During my quest to match or exceed this standard for heavy, the most common suggestions I received were Electric Wizards Dopethrone, Bongrippers Satan Worshipping Doom, and Boriss Amplifier Worship. I dropped all the suggestions I could into a Spotify playlist and made note of the ones Id need to listen to on Bandcamp. Some bands, such as Sunn O))) and The Body, had multiple entries.Listening to all 26 albums I collected was slow going because I only listened. This wasnt background music. Usually, Id sit down and just focus on an album per day.If I had to isolate a common musical lineage all the albums in contention, its Black Sabbath. (Duh?) Theres a kind of purist quality to the Sabbath worship, particularly from Church of Misery and the subgenre of stoner metal. One of the other albums in consideration was Godfleshs Streetcleaner, which was striking in this context; it was surrounded by material it had clearly inspired. The two other bands Id point to as formative for the quest for heaviness are the Melvins and Sunn O))), which was the only band that freaked out my cat. The heaviest tracks I listened to on my quest were aggressively anti-commercial; its hard to imagine them being played on corporate radio. Black Boned Angels Verdun is one song thats almost 52 minutes long. Khanates self-titled album seems fully uninterested in concepts such as grooves, song structure, and sanity.Shallow North Dakotas Mob Wheel was bludgeoning. It was refreshing to hear music that felt insistent on itself as an experienceFamously, Dopesmoker itself wasnt initially released because it had no commercial prospects. London Records had promised Sleep full creative control and then, upon hearing the album, shelved it. (This was among the tensions that led to the bands breakup.)The slowness that makes music really heavy stands in contrast to TikTok-ified music, which is generally sped up if its not already upbeat. It was refreshing to hear music that felt insistent on itself as an experience. From all my listening, four contenders emerged: Boriss Amplifier Worship, Hells Live at Roadburn, Bongrippers Empty, and The Body / Thous collaboration Released from Love / You, Whom I Have Always Hated. It seemed possible Id find that Dopesmoker was the pinnacle by default a testament to an aesthetic no one was trying to achieve anymore. But Empty is from 2024, Live at Roadburn was released in 2018, and Released from Love / You, Whom I Have Always Hated is from 2015.This left me with Hells Live At RoadburnTo handle the semi-finals, I listened to each album back-to-back with Dopesmoker, which made judging surprisingly easy. Amplifier Worship, Empty and Released from Love were knocked out almost immediately. This left me with Hells Live At Roadburn. Its an odd choice since its basically a live version of Hells self-titled album, but its decidedly heavier, particularly the songs Subodin and Machikitos. That may be partly because live songs work differently than studio versions not least because theres a band instead of Matthew S. Williams, who records as MSW, doing all the parts himself.Live at Roadburn is not just heavier than Hells self-titled; its also heavier than Dopesmoker. So, what renders Roadburn heavier? For starters, the guitars are literally tuned lower I think to drop A flat rather than drop C. And though the songs on Roadburn often use repetition, theres also variation on the tempo, which generally slows (Helmzmen sort of grinds to a halt). Theres more fuzzed-out feedback. But the deciding factor is the drums, which are much higher in the mix on Roadburn than on Dopesmoker, which means I can feel the bass and tom. On Machitikos in particular, the pummeling drums underline and thicken a guitar solo. For guitar purists, my verdict may be suspect. After all, Im taking into account drums in a riff-based medium. There are, however, only so many ways to get heavy, which makes the drums the equivalent of the full-body swimsuits the Olympics banned for making swimmers too fast. Roadburn would probably still be heavier with the drums lower in the mix probably but the drums make it decisive.Listen to both albums back-to-back on good speakers. (Headphones wont get the job done here.) Once you feel Roadburn in your sternum, I dont think there will be any room for argument. Spending two hours listening to music as an activity while doing nothing else is something people should do more often. Music is still powerful, if youre willing to pay attention.

The Biggest Shows Coming in 2025
The threat of a new year looms and the promise of hundreds more television shows remains true. 2025 will see the long awaited return of a whole host of shows, including the likes of Severance, Peacemaker, Mythic Quest and Yellowjackets. Shows will end (so long, Cobra Kai, thanks for all of the karate drama) and shows will have series premieres (welcome Ironheart, were so excited to have you in the MCU), and about halfway through the year youll be asking yourself how you can possibly keep up with it all. And, though the answer is very probably that you cant, Im here to help you at least remain organized while you try. Read on for our most anticipated TV shows of 2025, their premiere dates, and where to stream them. The below release dates or lack thereof are accurate at the time of publish, but remember that Hollywood is fickle and all of the below especially the shows slated for later in the year or without any release date at all could play musical chairs several times before actually airing.Severance Season 2 (January 17 on Apple TV+)PlayOur long, national nightmare is over: Severance Season 2 is finally right around the corner. Well be kicking off the year with a return to Lumon after Season 1s monumental cliffhanger, but a real hurdle that Severance is going to have to clear is that the extremely intricate series will have last aired nearly three years ago by the time Season 2 drops. Heres our Severance Season 1 ending explained to help out in that department, and stay tuned for some previews on whats most important to remember before we head into Season 2. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (January 29 on Disney+)PlayThe latest animated entry into the MCU may be taking place in a different timeline, but it promises to continue X-Men 97s resurgence of the Saturday morning cartoons of yore. The premise of the upcoming series wonders what would happen to young Peter Parker if Norman Osborn became his mentor rather than Tony Stark. Hudson Thames, who formerly appeared in the MCUs What If? Anthology, will reprise his role as Parker. Mythic Quest Season 4 (January 29 on Apple TV+) Like Severance, its been a good long time since weve seen our friends over at Mythic Quest Studios. Their Season 3 finale back in early 2023 saw Poppy (Charlotte Nicdao) and Ian (Rob McElhenny) give up on their new game Playpen only to return to Mythic Quest Studios to use their new creation as an expansion to the companys titular game, the studios movie adaptation fell through, and Dana (Imani Hakim) left the company to create her own game with several other Mythic Quest staffers. It was an ending of change for the Mythic Quest team, and its been hanging in the air for quite some time. Mythic Quest: Side Quest (March 26 on Apple TV+)Mythic Quest (the series) will have its own expansion debuting later in 2025 on March 26. Side Quest (formerly titled Mere Mortals) is written by Mythic Quest series regulars Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. The series will feature an entirely separate cast of characters and will focus on the employees, players and fans whose lives have been impacted by Mythic Quest.Invincible Season 3 (February 6 on Prime Video) PlaySeason 2 of Invincible saw a softer reception compared to Season 1, but the fractured attention of the audience wasnt due to a drop in quality. On the heels of a long gap between seasons, Prime Video dropped the second season in two parts with a four month hiatus between the two. Were 100% for weekly episode drops in these parts, but splitting up an eight-episode season like that really hurt viewership. Still, fans seem hyped for the series Season 3 return, with the upcoming chapters CCPX trailer receiving a very warm welcome from folks missing Mark, Eve and their friends. Heres hoping those crazy kids work things out in Season 3. (And, no, there will be no weird hiatus in Season 3!) Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 (February 13 on Netflix)Prime Video may have learned its lesson when it comes to dropping their seasons in parts with huge gaps in between, but Netflix sure hasnt! If youre still engaged after Novembers Season 6 Part 2 of Cobrai Kai and wondering when the heck youll finally see the ending to the karate drama series, its coming your way in February. Because yes, Season 6 is Cobra Kais last though a new Karate Kid theatrical movie, Karate Kid: Legends, is coming in May with Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan starring.Yellowjackets Season 3 (February 14 on Paramount+ and Showtime)After Season 2s unbearable loss of adult [redacted], the surviving Yellowjackets must face a new challenge a woman down in Season 3. The series has never been for the faint of heart with cannibalism and survival playing heavy roles as the team of young soccer stars fight to return home in the past and, evidently, fight to stay alive in the present. As is customary for the show, we dont yet know the nature of the threat looming over the remaining survivors in Season 3. But Im betting things are going to get gnarly. Gnarlier? Whatever. Its gonna get dark. PlaySuits L.A. (February 23 on NBC, Possibly Peacock)Thats right, theres a show on this list that, at the time of publishing, is solely debuting on linear television. That could change, as NBC and Peacock are a part of the same company but, for now, you might have to find a cable solution if youre one of the eleventy people who binged the original Suits in 2024. Suits L.A. will actually mark the second spinoff of the series, as Pearson (the Jessica-centric spinoff featuring Gina Torres character) aired for one season back in 2019. The official logline for Suits L.A. isnt available at this time, but you can feel safe in your assumption that it will be lawyers doing lawyer stuff. The series stars Stephen Amell (the [expletive] Green Arrow) as Ted Black.Daredevil: Born Again (March 4 on Disney+)The Avocados at Law are back, and Hells Kitchen remains under the watchful eye of Charlie Coxs Daredevil. The Man Without Fear will take on Wilson Fisks (Vincent DOnofrio) Kingpin once again as the former mob boss shifts his attention from organized crime to a life in politics in New York. We know that Foggy, Karen and Frank Castle will be back in action in Daredevil: Born Again, but are yet to receive confirmation on whether or not She-Hulk will be visiting with Matt Murdock between cases. Andor Season 2 (April 22 on Disney+)Star Wars most essential viewing is poised to return in April as we continue to follow Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) on his journey as a member of the resistance. Season 2 will see the return of fan-favorite snarky droid K-2S0 (Alan Tudyk) from Rogue One and march our complicated heroes closer to the fate that awaits them on Scarif. Devil May Cry (April)The animated adaptation of the beloved video game Devil May Cry will be headed to Netflix sometime in April of next year, but with a small caveat: Reuben Langdon, the American voice actor for the series lead, Dante, will not be reprising his role for the show. Instead, theyll be using Johnny Yong Bosch (who traditionally voices Nero). Beyond that voice-acting shakeup, we dont know a ton of details on the series yet. Adi Shankar, known for Netflixs Castlevania series, will act as the showrunner for Devil May Cry. Shankar is also attached to Netflixs long-dormant Assassins Creed adaptation. The Last of Us Season 2 (Spring on Max)PlayThe devil may cry, but were all certainly going to be crying come spring and the long-awaited return of The Last of Us. The real question headed into Season 2 is whether or not the series will stick to the games devastating story or if the show will decide to go in its own direction after making Joel considerably more sympathetic in Season 1. But, if youre unfamiliar with the game and have no clue what Im talking about, I recommend you head into the premiere episode with a box of tissues just to be safe. No matter what happens, its certainly not gonna be a happy story.A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (June 15 on Max)Game of Thrones prequels will continue until morale improves! And no, youre probably never getting The Winds of Winter or A Dream of Spring (the last planned books of the A Song of Ice and Fire series) because, yes, George R.R. Martin seems to be heavily involved in the show. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, and stars Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. If TV shows had shorts in the same way movies do, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms would likely be one of them as it only consists of six episodes. Its currently unknown how long those episodes will be, but expect them to be similar to House of the Dragon in length. Ironheart (June 24 on Disney+)Weve been missing Dominique Thornes Riri Williams since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, so the fact that her show is right around the corner is very exciting. Ironheart will see the young genius heading back to Chicago, where shell find herself in some trouble of both the technological and magical varieties. Joining Thorne in the series will be Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins aka The Hood (read: the guy that gets Riri into trouble), Lyric Ross as Riris bestie Natalie, and Alden Ehrenreich as, hold on, let me check my notes here: Joe McGillicuddy. Ironheart will be the end of the MCUs Phase 5.Eyes of Wakanda (August 6 on Disney+)The MCUs second animated series of the year will be coming your way August 6 in the form of Eyes of Wakanda. The series will follow Wakandas Hatut Zaraze, warriors who carry out dangerous missions around the world on behalf of their country and seek various vibranium artifacts throughout time. Immediately following Ironheart means that Eyes of Wakanda will be the first TV series in Marvels Phase 6. The series will only consist of four episodes and is developed and executive produced by Ryan Coogler.Peacemaker Season 2 (August on Max)Remember how dewy-eyed we were when we put Peacemaker Season 2 on this list two years ago? We were so young back then. So hopeful. Anyway! Its finally happening for real this time. (We checked. Thrice.) Hemsworth is, of course, perfectly capable of taking on the role, but its hard to see the series surviving such a massive character change when fans of The Witcher had taken to Henry Cavills version of Geralt in the way that they did. Still, that (apparently very kidnappable) Ciri isnt going to save herself! (Ciri does, in fact, save herself.)Alien: Earth (Summer on FX and Hulu)The Alien franchise heads to the small screen with this prequel series helmed by Noah Hawley (Bones, Fargo, Legion, etc.). Stranger Things Season 5 (On Netflix)The Netflix sensation finally comes to an end with Season 5, which is for the best given that all of those kids are full grown adults at this point. With that in mind, there will be a time jump between Seasons 4 and 5 to justify the age difference. Beyond that and the fact that it will be very focused on the lore of the Upside Down, we dont know much. The Bear Season 4 (On Hulu)We know The Bear Season 4 is happening, and we assume it will happen in 2025, but we dont actually know a dang thing about it yet. I can provide one, major spoiler though: it will stress you out. Wednesday Season 2 (On Netflix)Plot twist: We barely know anything about Wednesday Season 2 either.
