WWW.CNET.COMFantastic Four to Join Marvel Rivals Roster for Season 1Marvel Rivals is the new hero shooter that launched in December and has been a big hit among gamers during its abbreviated season 0 with a lot of initial heroes and modes. As the game gets ready for Marvel Rivals Season 1starting on Jan. 10, one of Marvel's iconic superhero teams is set to join the fray.A trailer to show off the Fantastic Four premiered on Monday. Eternal Night Falls is the name of the first full season of the hero shooter and will add New York City as a new map to play on.We don't know a lot about the four heroes yet, including their specific abilities, but Marvel Rivalsdata miners who are combing through the game have already found a few details. The Human Torch and Mr. Fantastic will be part of the Duelist class, which means the two of them will use their abilities to deal some heavy damage. The Thing will likely be a Vanguard, also known as a tank, that will take up all the damage. It's likely the Invisible Woman will be a Strategist, making use of her powers to support teammates and get the jump on competitors. The Fantastic Four will be the first new characters on the already packed Marvel Rivals roster, which includes legendary figures like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America, along with lesser-known ones such as Luna Snow, Peni Parker and a new fan favorite, Jeff the Land Shark. Got it. Wash tower, did you get that? Leave it to me. I'll make sure the clothes stay untangled until 5 p.m. before they return home. Hydro tower, you're up. It got drier during the night, so I raised the humidity to the family's comfort level. Everything is A OK. Good morning, Thomas. Oh, morning. Hi Q9. You seem to be in a good mood. That beige colored sweater looks great on you. Oh, thanks. Electricity use was reduced 60% last night through appliance power control. Oh, OK. Any news during the night? I heard Ethan coughing a few times while he was sleeping. Maybe it was the cooler weather last night, but I went ahead and raised the temperature in his room 5 degrees during the night. He had no trouble sleeping afterwards. Oh, thanks. Good job looking out for him. Ready for today's schedule? Yeah, sure. Thank you on. Lay it on me. Your first appointment is at the office beginning in 45 minutes. Your neighbor, Brandt is carpooling with you to the office today and should be here in a few minutes. WWW.EUROGAMER.NETAMD at CES 2025: RDNA 4 GPUs with FSR4, new X3D CPUs for desktops and laptopsAMD at CES 2025: RDNA 4 GPUs with FSR4, new X3D CPUs for desktops and laptopsEverything you need to know about 9950X3D, 9955HX3D and RX 9070-series.Image credit: AMD/Digital Foundry Blog by Will Judd Deputy Editor, Digital Foundry Published on Jan. 6, 2025 AMD has already announced its new Ryzen Z2 chips for handheld PCs, but its CES 2025 keynote also included a whole new generation of graphics cards and new X3D processors for both desktops and laptops. We'll start with the graphics news, as the American firm detailed two models on the new RDNA 4 architecture - the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 - as well as a long-awaited upgrade to their FSR upscaling tech, FSR4. The RX 9070 XT and 9070 are positioned to counter Nvidia's mid-tier 40-series and 50-series graphics cards, with the RDNA 4 architecture promising improved ray-tracing performance, better AI capabilities and even an improved media encoder - all areas of relative weakness for AMD versus competitors like Nvidia and Intel. The cards are produced on a 4nm process and ship this quarter, with models coming from the likes of Acer, Asus, Sapphire, XFX, ASRock, Gigabyte and PowerColor. 1 of 6 Caption Attribution Here are the relevant RDNA 4 slides. FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 is the first time AMD is using AI for its upscaling, something long embraced by Nvidia to good effect. The feature is exclusive to RDNA 4 graphics cards, and hopefully will offer a step change beyond previous AMD efforts in what is now quite a competitive space with the likes of Sony, Intel and Nvidia all producing reasonable solutions. As before, frame generation and anti-lag tech is included. AMD is also leveraging its cards improved AI capabilities to let users generate images, summarise locally-stored documents and ask a chat-bot AMD-related questions - so I'm sure it won't be long after the cards are released that humorous screenshots of inappropriate bot behaviour are posted. The company's CPU announcements are perhaps a little more straightforward. First, we got what we all expected was coming: two new desktop 9000 X3D CPUs, the 9950X3D and 9900X3D, both to come in the first half of 2025. 1 of 9 Caption Attribution And here's the CPU side of the equation. If you're familiar with the 7950X3D and 7900X3D, this is familiar territory, with both being two-CCD parts but the higher number corresponding to a fully-activated part and the lower a cut-back version. That means 16 cores for the 9950X3D and 12 for the 9900X3D, with the flagship part offering a 5.7GHz max boost and 144MB of vertically-stacked v-cache. It doesn't look the cache features on both cores, which is a bit of a disappointment. The 9950X3D performance numbers look good too, with AMD's figures indicating an eight percent advantage over the 7950X3D across 40 titles. There are some fairly significant gains here as well in certain games, with a 1.58x turn-out in Counter-Strike 2, 1.28x in Far Cry 6 and 1.16x in Starfield. Versus the significantly less threatening Core Ultra 9 285K, AMD's labs found a 20 percent performance advantage on average, with 1.3x or higher results in the likes of Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077, Space Marine 2, Final Fantasy 16, Far Cry 6 and Watch Dogs: Legion. As well as the desktop chips, AMD also announced its first X3D chip for laptops, the 9955HX3D. The top of a lineup codenamed Fire Range that also includes two non-X3D chips, the 9955HX and 9850HX, the flagship X3D chip includes 144MB of cache, a 5.4GHz max turbo and a 16-core, 32-thread design. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. That sounds like a formula for an extremely powerful CPU that ought to outclass even laptops with full desktop chips, but we'll have to wait until nearer launch in the first half of this year to get some performance figures, it seems. Overall, it's quite an impressive series of announcements from AMD, though I'm sure there will be some disappointment that the larger Ryzen 9000 X3D chips aren't going to go on sale immediately. Stay tuned for more news as it comes in - with Nvidia being the next to fire its keynote salvo in the early morning UK time.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 31 Views

WWW.EUROGAMER.NETXbox Cloud Gaming is coming to LG TVsXbox Cloud Gaming is coming to LG TVsStarting "later this year".Image credit: Xbox/Microsoft News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on Jan. 6, 2025 Microsoft's push to deliver Xbox gaming without requiring users to purchase Xbox hardware is set to continue in 2025, with Xbox Cloud Gaming support officially coming to LG TVs.Starting "later this year", LG TV owners can download the Xbox app and play "hundreds" of titles from the Game Pass Ultimate catalogue via cloud streaming, including Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming Avowed (which launches in February) and Eurogamer's Game of the Year 2024, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Microsoft notes the Xbox app on LG TVs will also support the recently introduced ability for users to stream "select" Xbox games they already own - from the current list of "over 50" titles - even if they're not presently available as part of Game Pass.Microsoft is heavily promoting the ability to play Xbox games without a console.Watch on YouTubeIn all cases, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is required (starting at 14.99 a month), as is a "supported" LG Smart TV. Microsoft's initial announcement doesn't detail which TVs will be compatible with the service, but it says more details will be shared in the "coming months".Xbox Cloud Gaming's arrival on LG TVs follows its launch on Amazon Fire TV devices last year and on Samsung TVs in 2022. WWW.EUROGAMER.NETAMD announces next-gen Ryzen Z2 APUs for gaming handheldsAMD announces next-gen Ryzen Z2 APUs for gaming handheldsThree architectures in one family - but no 'Steam Deck 2' hint.Image credit: AMD/Digital Foundry Blog by Will Judd Deputy Editor, Digital Foundry Published on Jan. 6, 2025 AMD has announced a trio of next-gen Ryzen Z-series APUs intended for use in gaming handhelds at their CES 2025 keynote. As we reported in December, the family includes three different architectures stretching back to 2022, but the release still includes some interesting new information about where these chips might end up.The flagship Z2 Extreme is an eight-core, 16-thread design with a TDP of up to 35W, built on the Strix Point architecture - which recently impressed us in the Beelink SER9 mini PC. The APU also includes 16 RDNA 3.5 CUs. Of the eight CPU cores, three are full-fat Zen 5 cores and five are smaller Zen 5C cores with less on-board cache but otherwise the same microarchitecture. This hetrogeneous design is intended to provide a better mix of single-core speed and die area / power usage versus a homogeneous alternative, so it'll be fascinating to see how it performs in new high-end gaming handhelds - think a next-gen Asus ROG Ally X or Lenovo Legion Go, for example. 1 of 3 Caption Attribution Here are the three relevant AMD slides. The next spot down is the vanilla Z2, which is also eight cores and 16 threads but using the Hawk Point architecture - so these are Zen 4 cores. The APU also includes 12 RDNA 3 CUs. It's rated up to 30W, and should be found in more affordable handhelds - eg the cheapest variant of the ROG Ally. Finally and perhaps most interestingly, the Z2 Go is a Lenovo exclusive design reportedly intended for the leaked Legion Go S, their smaller and cheaper handheld. This is a four-core Zen 3+ (Rembrandt) design with 12 RDNA 2 CUs, with the 2022-era architecture promising less performance and fewer features at a lower price. That could be a good fit for the Go S, which ought to be aggressively priced versus the titanic original Legion Go - and presumably a $300-$400 handheld would do well if performance was in Steam Deck territory! We discuss the Legion Go S - and indeed, AMD's Ryzen Z2-series chips - at 58:35 in the DF Direct show embedded here. Watch on YouTubePre-embargo reporting suggested that AMD's announcement promised that Z2-series chips would be available on systems made by the likes of Valve, Asus and Lenovo, hinting towards a mid-gen refresh for the Steam Deck, but there doesn't appear to be any solid footing for that claim in the slides. Instead, devices by these manufacturers seem to be name-checked only in terms of the category's explosive growth. In fact, Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais, whose Bluesky profile lists him as working as a programmer on the Steam Deck, categorically denies the proposition, saying "There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck." We may still see SteamOS support for the new chips for the benefit of other companies working on third-party SteamOS devices, of course. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. I expect we'll hear more about these new devices as CES continues to unfold, so stay tuned for all the latest announcements - including what are expected to be relatively meaty releases from the likes of Intel and Nvidia.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 31 Views

GIZMODO.COMAhead of SCOTUS Hearing, Study Finds TikTok Is Likely Vehicle for Chinese PropagandaBy Todd Feathers Published January 6, 2025 | Comments (7) | ByteDance,, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, could be forced to sell the platform. Greg Baker/Getty Images As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments later this week on whether the federal government can ban TikTok, a team of social media researchers is re-upping its argument that the social media platform acts as a propaganda machine for the Chinese government.Their paper, due to be published in the journal Frontiers in Social Psychology, argues that TikTok surfaces content critical of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) talking points less often than competing platforms despite that content generating high user engagement and that Americans who were frequent TikTok users expressed more favorable opinions toward China than those who frequented other social media sites. The research was produced by the Network Contagion Research Institute at Rutgers University, whose previous studies examining pro-Chinese moderation on TikTok have been criticized by ByteDance, the social media platforms parent company, in part because the researchers conducted their studies by creating dummy accounts to simulate user experiences rather than examining actual TikTok users feeds. This flawed experiment was clearly engineered to reach a false, predetermined conclusion, TikTok spokesperson Michael Hughes wrote in a statement. Previous research by NCRI has been debunkedby outside analysts and this latest paper is equally flawed. Creating fake accounts that interact with the app in a prescribed manner does not reflect real users experience, just as this so-called study does not reflect facts or reality. The new peer-reviewed paper, which was first reported by The Free Press, begins by examining whether content on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube related to the keywords Tiananmen, Tibet, Uyghur, and Xinjiang tends to display pro- or anti-CCP sentiment. The researchers found that TikToks algorithm didnt necessarily surface more pro-CCP content in response to searches for those terms, but it delivered fewer anti-CCP posts than did Instagram or YouTube and significantly more posts that were irrelevant to the subject. In the second stage of their study, the NCRI team tested whether the lower performance of anti-CCP content was a result of less user engagement (likes and comments) with those posts. They found that TikTok users liked or commented on anti-CCP content nearly four times as much as they liked or commented on pro-CCP content, yet the search algorithm produced nearly three times as much pro-CCP content while there was no similar discrepancy on Instagram or YouTube. Finally, the researchers surveyed 1,214 Americans about their social media usage and their views on Chinas human rights record. The more time users spent on any social media platform, the more likely they were to have favorable views of Chinas human rights record, the survey showed. Users were particularly more likely to have favorable views if they spent more than three hours a day using TikTok.The researchers wrote that they could not definitively conclude that spending more time on TikTok resulted in more positive views of China, but taken together, the findings from these three studies raise the distinct possibility that TikTok is a vehicle for CCP propaganda.Congress passed a law last year that would force ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban on the platform in the U.S. A federal appeals court upheld the law in response to a legal challenge from the company, and the case is now scheduled for a Supreme Court hearing on Friday. Other major social media platforms also collect vast amounts of sensitive data about their users and suppress content likely to anger various governments. But U.S. Intelligence agencies have argued that because TikTok is owned by a Chinese company it presents a particular propaganda and security threat.TikTok Daily NewsletterYou May Also Like By AJ Dellinger Published January 3, 2025 By AJ Dellinger Published December 31, 2024 By AJ Dellinger Published December 18, 2024 By Matt Novak Published December 16, 2024 By Matt Novak Published December 10, 2024 By Matt Novak Published December 6, 20240 Commentarios 0 Acciones 32 Views
