  • Dragon Age Voice Actor Arrested On Revenge Porn Charges
    www.gamespot.com
Voice actor Johnathon Rees (who goes by his stage name, Greg Ellis) was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff's Office last week on a number of different charges related to harassing his ex-girlfriend and threatening her with revenge porn. Rees voiced the character of Cullen Rutherford in Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition.Rees' charges include three counts of coercion, one count of unlawful surveillance, and one count of aggravated harassment and unlawful dissemination or publication of an intimate image. The charges are tied to a breakup in 2022, during which he reportedly threatened to post "revenge porn" of his ex. Rees was also charged with perjury and "offering a false instrument for filing," which refers to the act of knowingly submitting a falsified document to a public office or government agency with the intention of having it be accepted as an official record. The false filing and unlawful surveillance charges are both felonies, while the others are classified as misdemeanors.Per court documents, Rees was in a relationship with one Jane Doe from April 2016 to September 2022. On September 6, Doe broke up with Rees and cut off all communication with him. The 56-year-old actor allegedly responded to the breakup by engaging in a harassment campaign (including threats of self-harm and threats of posting intimate images of Doe) in an effort to get his ex to respond to his messages. In his preliminary statement, Rees stated that he is a "public figure" and noted that he has more than 65,000 followers on Twitter and 17,000 followers on Instagram.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Warhammer publisher is inviting fanfiction submissions for your best buddy cop scenes
    www.polygon.com
In the world of Warhammer 40,000, the Black Library, guarded by ancient Harlequins, contains the galaxys most dangerous and forbidden knowledge. In our world, the Black Library is the clever title for Games Workshops publishing arm, which publishes novels and short stories about Orks, the Leagues of Votann, the Imperium of Man, and all the other factions that make up the madcap, grimdark future of 40K. The Black Library also covers works from Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar, for those who prefer the lore from the World-That-Was and the Mortal Realms.Black Library is hosting an open submissions period for writing samples between Feb. 22 and March 9, and theyre looking for writers to submit a short scene featuring two characters either from 40K or Age of Sigmar. (So you cant combine the settings my apologies to anyone who was hoping for an Archaeon/Abaddon showdown.)According to the announcement on Warhammer Community, authors can pick any two characters and depict them in a duel, a conversation, or anything else you can imagine; and if you impress their discerning editors, you may even be invited to formally pitch. Writers are only permitted one submission apiece. Note that the publisher will retain all rights to the samples: Games Workshop will have the exclusive right to use your submission for any purpose in the future. The entries must be in English, not exceed 500 words, and only feature two characters. The scene must be set in Vigilus, Commorragh, or Armageddon if set in 40K, and Hammerhal Aqsha, the Eightpoints, or Shadespire if the story takes place in Age of Sigmar. Commorragh is a particularly interesting prompt, as its the home of the nefarious Dark Eldar, a faction of reavers and raiders who must constantly inflict agony in order to save their own souls from a hungering god.Hopefully, therell be some submissions where Guilliman and the Lion finally meet and get to hug it out. Games Workshop will share more information on submissions on the Warhammer Community site on Feb. 22.Entries must be in EnglishThe scene must not exceed 500 wordsYour scene must only feature the two characters you have chosenBoth characters must have had a miniature made by Games Workshop at some pointNo crossovers: both characters must be from the same universeThe scene must take place in one of the following settings: There is to be only one entry per person, so make it a good one! This is your chance to really let your creative juices flow. Black Library is on the lookout for clever character pairings, and writing that portrays these characters authentically. As ever, terms and conditions apply.

  • The Mocktail Club Recipe Book Can Take Dry January to the Next Level
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.Welcome to Cookbook of the Week. This is a series where I highlight cookbooks that are unique, easy to use, or just special to me. While finding a particular recipe online serves a quick purpose, flipping through a truly excellent cookbook has a magic all its own.It may be halfway through Dry January, but I think a mocktail book is still in order. Alongside the folks who desire a once-per-year cleanse are those that skip the booze year-round. In which case, this weeks cookbook, The Mocktail Club, is right on time.Personally, I enjoy an adult beverage from time to time, but there are many social occasions where I find myself looking at the cocktail menu like its the last thing I want near me. But when the mocktail finally got a foothold in the industry and began to gain popularity, I gladly pulled up a stool.A bit about the bookTheres always been a feeling, strong or lingering, that social drinking requires alcohol. While thats fine if it fits your lifestyle, it can simultaneously exclude others if there are no other options. Enter: The mocktail. For those of you that might be unfamiliar, a mocktail (besides being a clever play on the word cocktail) is a non-alcoholic drink that combines two or more components. The Mocktail Club comes to us from Derick Santiago, a certified mixologist who has poured his knowledge into non-alcoholic libations that are just as complex and delicious as the booze-infused. This petite hard cover was published in 2024, and has 75 non-alcoholic recipes in it, including alcohol-free spins on classics like the pia colada, or B&T (botanicals and tonic).A great book for those who won't settle for juiceThe challenging thing about mocktails, especially in the early years, is that many of the smaller ingredients or components would include alcohol tooliqueurs, bitters, vermouth. Achieving the complexity of cocktails without these smaller additions led to one-dimensional drinks, or sometimes just fancy juices. In the past, being alcohol-free meant your options were rather limited, and not everyone wants six Diet Cokes or waters when theyre at their wifes birthday party. These days, the options have opened up. Now there are plenty of brands and businesses in the alcohol-free space, brewing up non-alcoholic tequilas, whiskeys, bitters, and more. The Mocktail Club uses the full range of what is available so now you dont have to settle for soda or juice if you dont want to. You can make beautiful, nuanced drinks that dont feel like a replacement or a disguise; they are actually sophisticated drinks you want to enjoy. This is a book for someone who wants to truly dive into the world of NA mocktails with gusto. Its not for someone who wants to make an easy mocktail out of regular ol ingredients from the refrigerator. Youll need supplies, non-alcoholic spirits, and to do a little pre-work with syrups and shrubs. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann The recipes you can expectPart of the reason I chose to feature The Mocktail Club is because of how thorough the front matter is before the real recipes start. Santiago takes the time (but not too much space) to explain what a mocktail is, important terminology, how non-alcoholic versions of spirits are made, and what flavors they mimic.Santiago gives you a full section of simple syrup recipes, shrub recipes, and accoutrements that add that little something to push the drink over the edge. Youll learn different types of shaking methods, including one that can help you replace alcoholic bitters with a simple orange peel. The recipes are organized by the primary non-alcoholic spirit in the recipe, chapters like Gin-inspired Mocktails or Rum-inspired Mocktails, lead the way. Aperitifs and completely Spirit-free Mocktails close out the book. Each recipe has a headnote that briefly explains the flavor profile of the drink and how the ingredients work together. Most of the measurements are for single servings, or occasionally two, so I can see batching these drinks for a party might be cumbersome with the math. But not impossible. The drink I made this weekI made the General Giuseppe mocktail this week. Ive been musing about a trip to Italy for next year and this bright orange drink seemed to match my mood. At first, I was irritated because I wanted to already have all the components it needed, but I did not. Then I realized that a good mocktail is going to require a little work on my part. The mocktail ingredients have to be different from what I have because my home bar is an alcohol zone.Luckily, finding a non-alcoholic Italian red aperitif is not as hard as I thought. You can buy a pack online (this stuff is actually pretty tasty on its own), or check out any Italian specialty stores you have in the area. You might be surprised that some Italian restaurants will sell these items too. I bought my bottle from an Italian sandwich shop in my neighborhood. The same goes for non-alcoholic or zero-proof orange bitters. Check out stores that sell mixers, bougie liquor stores, or buy them online. The drink was only three ingredients, and easy to prepare; a dry shake before adding ice. The delicious, brightly hued beverage that I poured into my rock glass surpassed expectations. I was worried it would be too sweet, maybe too juicy, or just boring, but it was nothing like that. The sweetness of the orange juice was met head-on with the bitter aperitif. While the light addition of orange bitters added an aromatic depth to make it taste cocktail-y.What's more, I didnt have to pour it out for once. Whenever I make alcoholic cocktails for work, its usually 11 a.m., and that is not for me.How to buy itThe Mocktail Club is available online, naturally, and in real life at a number of Barnes & Noble bookstores. Remember, you can support your local brick and mortar bookstores by asking them to order it to their location if they dont have it in stock. While I did not try batching any mocktails from the book, I think I will for the next get-together I attend. If you do it before I do, let me know how it goes, and enjoy your Dry Whichever-month. Since then, many other publishers have followed suit with their own agreements. In fact, just earlier today, Axios announced a three-year deal with OpenAI that will see the AI startup fund four new local newsrooms. Last year, OpenAI partnered with People publisher Dotdash Meredith, a deal that has since been reported to be worth at least $16 million annually.Correction 6:23PM ET: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that The Associated Press was following other publishers in signing agreements with AI firms. Substack CEO Chris Best wrote in a Note posted Monday. If youve been on your Substack newsfeed lately, youve likely seen the platform rolling out a warm welcome to TikTok users, as the days count down to a potential TikTok ban in the U.S. Just this week, Best announced a new initiative to help creators transition from TikTok to Substack: We want to help creators save their audiences and build a sustainable livelihood of subscribers before they lose what theyve built.Substack is offering a $25,000 prize to the creative genius who can make a TikTok video that sparks a trend.
