Its powerful magnets ensure a steady fit between your phone and charger, and the included screen protectors will keep scratches away from your display. There are also raised edges around the camera to protect it from damage and scratches. The case is only $15, making it significantly more affordable than many competing options. The minimalistic design of this case is discreet, suitable for both the boardroom or a baseball game, and will give you a lot more peace of mind if you suffer from a serious case of the butterfingers.Natbok Magnetic CaseThe best magnetic OnePlus 13R caseImage used with permission by copyright holderThe best official OnePlus 13R caseOnePlus Sandstone Magnetic CaseProsThe only official caseBuilt-in magnetic ringTextured design makes it easy to holdConsNo screen protectorThe OnePlus 13R Sandstone Magnetic case is the only official OnePlus 13R case on the market. It's built with a textured pattern on the case that provides not only aesthetic appeal, but also provides a better grip for the user. A built-in magnet makes wireless charging quick and easy, and the understated finish and design is a solid option that protects without drawing the eye. This case is slightly more than some of the competition on this list, but if you want an accessory straight from OnePlus, it's one of the few options out there.OnePlus Sandstone Magnetic CaseThe best official OnePlus 13R caseRelatedImage used with permission by copyright holderBest clear OnePlus 13R caseFoluu Clear CaseProsShockproof design offers drop protectionClear build lets you show off phone's designThe case adds minimal bulkConsNo built-in magnetsThe OnePlus 13R is an attractive device with a minimalist design. If you like the look of the phone and want to show it off while still providing protection, the Foluu Clear Case is a good pick. For less than $10, you get a phone case with larger corner bumpers to help protect against drops, a raised area around the camera itself, and an air-filled design that helps mitigate damage from drops. The primary downside is the lack of built-in magnets. It should still work with wireless charging, but it won't have the same speed or security that a magnet case offers.Foluu Clear CaseBest clear OnePlus 13R caseImage used with permission by copyright holderThe best slim OnePlus 13R caseBastmei Minimalist CaseProsUltra-thin caseAnti-slip finish180-day guaranteeConsCase offers minimal protectionThe Bastmei OnePlus 13R Case is one of the slimmest phone cases we've ever seen. It practically feels like there's nothing on your phone, aside from the textured case that gives you a more solid grip. Bastmei also promises a 180-day guarantee, so if you find the case doesn't work for you in that time, you can reach out for a replacement case. The downside is that this case focuses more on looks than on protection. While it will help guard against scratches, there's little in the way of corner protection, and we suggest investing in a screen protector too.Bastmei Minimalist CaseThe best slim OnePlus 13R caseImage used with permission by copyright holderBest wallet OnePlus 13R caseDamondy Wallet CaseProsAdds five card slots and a cash pocket to your phoneLeather cover protects the screenBuilt-in kickstandConsBulkyYou take your wallet everywhere you go, so why not include your phone in it, too? The Damondy Wallet Case makes it easy to carry five extra cards and some cash with you, and you can even use the cover as a sort of kickstand for watching content. The case itself doesn't offer a lot of features in way of protection, but it's made of heavy-duty material that will absorb all but the heaviest impacts.Be warned, though: the case is bulky. Because it has to fit your phone, this will take up much more space in a purse or in a pocket than the phone on its own would but less than your phone and wallet combined. Of course, you can always opt for a digital wallet and store that on your phone, too.Damondy Wallet CaseBest wallet OnePlus 13R caseEditors Recommendations

  • Nurses say gig work apps can put them in tough situations and stressful hospitals
    www.businessinsider.com
Hospitals are using gig work apps to fill nursing shifts. While lucrative, many of the shifts can be difficult and stressful for nurses.Three nurses who have used the apps explain how much they've earned and what they've experienced.Nurses are using gig apps to make money. Doing so often involves working some of the most stressful jobs in nursing. Some hospitals have trouble retaining full-time staff because they have a stressful work environment. That could be a trauma center, for instance, or a facility with many homeless patients who aren't getting support for chronic conditions, one nurse who picks up shifts for CareRev in Southern California, told Business Insider. The problem has been compounded in the years since the pandemic, with many nurses feeling overwhelmed and considering a career change. Private-equity-owned facilities looking to reduce costs have also driven the rise of these apps, a report summary from the Roosevelt Institute released last month says. One solution that hospitals are using is apps that allow nurses to pick up shifts similar to the way that Uber drivers claim gigs driving people to the airport. Apps like CareRev, ShiftMed, and Clipboard Health pitch themselves to medical facilities, including those with staffing problems."We are that emergency help that they need to keep their hospital going," the nurse in Southern California said. The nurses who spoke to BI asked that their full names not be published for fear of retaliation from the apps, but BI has verified their identity and work.CareRev, Clipboard, Medely, and ShiftMed did not respond to requests for comment from BI.Nurses often find themselves 'thrown into' gigsOne nurse in California who has used the apps CareRev, Clipboard Health, and Medely said that many hospitals in her area that offer work through the apps don't appear to have the resources to hire as many full-time nurses as they need."Well-known hospitals like the Mayo Clinic are probably not going to be using ShiftMed," the nurse said. "It tends to be kind of smaller facilities and less-funded facilities."At some facilities that use gig apps, nurses working through the apps can outnumber employees. At one intensive care unit where she has worked, the nurse in Southern California said, "There were eight of us, and seven didn't actually work there.""When I go to these hospitals, especially some of them, you'll see only the app people and some travel nurses, and that's it," she said. What orientation those hospitals provide to nurses who work there through the apps can affect the kind of care patients get."Every hospital has policies and procedures when they do things and we don't get training," the nurse in Southern California said. "We can read the booklet real fast in the morning, but we don't always know we're doing our best.""There are instances where you get thrown into something and you do the best that you can, and care can unfortunately suffer because of that," the nurse on three apps in California told BI.Sarah, a nurse in Wisconsin, said that most hospitals she's worked in have required workers hired through the apps to have at least one year of nursing experience. However, she said stepping into a new hospital with limited training can be challenging and that this level of experience might be insufficient."You have to have a solid foundation this is not the environment to build your skills," she said. "You really have to be solid."Challenging nursing gigs often come with higher payDespite the challenges that come with these gigs, Sarah said the pay motivates many nurses to give them a shot."Everybody wants to chase the money," she said. While the hourly rates for these gigs vary by hospital, the nursing role, and other factors, nurses told BI that they often pay roughly double what they make in their regular nursing jobs as much as $115 an hour.Sarah said that $75 an hour is a fairly standard rate in her experience which would earn her $900 over a twelve-hour shift."What I'm making in CareRev is about double what I would be paid as a staff nurse for the hospitals in this area," she said. The nurse in Southern California said that she considers roughly $90 an hour to be a typical hourly rate. That's compared to the roughly $80 an hour she estimated that a very experienced nurse would make at a large hospital in her area."I've seen it get to $114 on a holiday like Christmas," she said. The nurse on three apps in California said she earns between $30 and $40 an hour at her main nursing job but often makes between $50 and $70 an hour through gig apps."If you're just picking up shifts on your own through these apps, it's more profitable to do it that way," she said. Are you a nurse who works as an independent contractor and has a story idea to share? • Ive figured out how each Nintendo franchise should work on Switch 2 Readers Feature
    metro.co.uk
Ive figured out how each Nintendo franchise should work on Switch 2 Readers FeatureGameCentralPublished January 19, 2025 9:00am We know about Mario Kart but what about everything else? (YouTube)A reader lists all the major Nintendo franchises and how they think theyll take advantage of the Switch 2 and its new features.Like everyone else I watched the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal on Thursday and like most people I was a bit disappointed that it didnt show more. I know the rumours said we wouldnt get much in the way of games but even so, a couple of seconds of slightly dreary looking Mario Kart 9 footage is not quite what I was hoping for. That doesnt diminish my interest in the console, its just obvious Nintendo dont want to say anything else at the moment and so were just going to have to wait till April when theyre actually ready to open up.Who knows what well see then but, in the meantime, Ive tried to come up with ideas of what their biggest franchise will look like on the new console and how theyll take advantage of its new features. Im sure Im wrong but lets see anywayAnimal CrossingConsidering how quickly they killed off New Horizons I imagine this one will arrive quite soon and for me the biggest area to improve is the online features and the AI of the villagers. Online does seem to be a focus for the Switch 2 so that should fit in nicely and having a mouse will be handy for house decoration.Super MarioThe only real rumour for the Switch 2 is a new Donkey Kong game that could also be the new game from the Super Mario Odyssey team. That means its going to end up using the consoles main gimmick but what is that exactly, the Joy-Cons as mice or the secret button? I like the rumours of a co-op mode too, with Donkey Kong vs. Mario, both online and local.Fire EmblemThe mouse Joy-Con idea doesnt obviously suit many Nintendo games, but it clearly does for a strategy game like Fire Emblem. Maybe that will mean that it moves beyond the grid-based battles of previous games into something more like a real-time strategy game?KirbyNot my favourite Nintendo franchise but you can guarantee it will show up sooner or later. Like Mario, Id guess it would make an effort to use as many gimmicks as possible and I could easily imagine controlling Kirby with a mouse. The Legend Of ZeldaHard to guess with this one, because were not going to see a mainline entry for something like five years. I would welcome remasters of the two Switch 1 games though, as theyd also work to show the graphical improvements since the last generation.Luigis MansionA very underrated series this, in my opinion, and the best-looking game on the Switch 1. I predict a new sequel fairly early on and that it will be the best looking game on the Switch 2. The last one already looked like Pixar movie so the next one should be amazing.Mario KartThe only game weve seen and the changes seem to be pretty major, with a much bigger number of online players and an open world or at least freeform tracks of some kind.Mario PartyThese games sell like hotcakes and with the new features therell be tons of new mini-games possible. In fact, it may be one of the best ways to experiment with weird ideas and actually make use of them as something people can play.MetroidWe all know about Metroid Prime 4, but we still havent had a follow-up to Metroid Dread yet. That did so well I cant imagine there wont be another one, but I also struggle to think how the Switch 2 can make it better, other than just improving the graphics.PikminThis is a super obvious one for using the mouse, since the original Pikmin is basically a real-time strategy anyway. Only problem is I dont how thats going to work given Pikmin 4 was the most successful one and that moved away from the original style of gameplay quite a bit.PokmonIm not much of a pokfan but Id say the priority here is dragging Game Freak out of the PlayStation 2 era and doing some actual good graphics. It already sounds like Pokmon Legends: Z-A is going to be an embarrassment if its Switch 1 only, so Im not sure theyve really learnt their lesson.SplatoonThe big question here is whether it will allow mouse control like a PC shooter, but if it does what acts as the keyboard? The controller would be a bit weird to hold like that. Im sure Nintendos thought about this though and Im very interested to see what they do, maybe a custom controller?Star FoxI dont know if they even bring this back, since it hasnt been big since the N64 days, but there wasnt a Switch game so it wouldnt surprise me if theyve been cooking something up. Previous games have had elements of strategy games so maybe they could double down on that with mouse control.Super Mario MakerThis one is an absolute no-brainer for using the mice. Plus, its a very online game so I would imagine seeing it quite early on and the obvious thing to do now is make it 3D, which will be easier to do with mouse controls.Super Smash Bros. One of the most difficult sequels to figure out. It could obviously do with better online, but I agree with the theory that a Deluxe edition of Ultimate is the way to go, just with a few extra characters.WarioWareNintendo is bound to have a weird mini-game collection at launch that shows off the Switch 2s gimmicks and Id much rather it was this (or Mario Party) then something like 1-2-Switch. I also wouldnt be surprised if Wario Land made a comeback, given the recent spate of indie homages.Xenoblade ChroniclesThis series seems to get more popular with every new entry and with the fuss made about the new Switch 1 remaster of Xenoblade Chronicles X Im sure it wont be long before we get another mainline new entry.More TrendingBy reader Onibee Mario Kart 9 looks like itll probably be a launch title (YouTube)The readers features do not necessarily represent the views of GameCentral or Metro. You can submit your own 500 to 600-word reader feature at any time, which if used will be published in the next appropriate weekend slot. • TikTok Is Officially Banned in the USA: Heres How a VPN Can Unblock It
    gizmodo.com
The USA is one of the largest social media consumers, with over 170 million TikTok accounts. For months, theres been a debate over TikTok banning in the US only for the ban to arrive at the doorstep on January 19th, 2025.People who woke up and grabbed their phones to visit TikTok were in for a rude awakening. TikTok is now officially banned on US soil, so millions of people wont be able to use it until further notice. However, this isnt the time to be depressed. Or sad. Or ready to jump off a building. You CAN unblock TikTok in the USA by using a VPN! Best of all its risk-free and works 100%.Well explain how.How to Use TikTok in the US With a VPN?A VPN is the ultimate solution to unblock TikTok in the USA.NordVPN which is especially popular in this country, works fairly well, offering over 7,100 servers in 118 countries. Unblocking TikTok in America should also be done securely.Thankfully, NordVPN offers bank-grade encryption and IP/DNS leak protection, which helps you stay hidden while using TikTok in the United States amidst the annoying ban. Users who already hopped on the VPN bandwagon reported staggering results.Try NordVPN Risk-FreeWithin seconds of connecting to a VPN server, TikTok was available and usable normally.Additionally, NordVPN is risk-free, which stems from a 30-day money-back guarantee for all plans. You can test it for a month and obtain a refund, should your heart desire so.Since it works on ALL devices, you can bypass the TikTok ban in the USA on your phone, computer, tablet, laptop, etc.Step-by-Step GuideBypassing the US TikTok ban couldnt be simpler. Heres how to do it with NordVPN:Subscribe to NordVPN first. Use the buttons in this article to claim a 70% discount on its 2-year Basic plan.Install NordVPN on your device. We recommend equipping all your devices to be able to access TikTok in the USA at any moment.Launch NordVPN and sign in with your email and password.Connect to a server outside the USA. Opt for countries where TikTok still works. European countries, Canada, and the UK all work well.Visit TikTok, log in to your account, and enjoy it works like a charm! Gizmodo.comUnblock TikTok in the USA With NordVPNCan I Unblock TikTok in the US With a Free VPN?That might just work but were all against it.As explained in our best free VPN ranking, most free providers are underwhelming and wont provide the premium experience youre looking for. While some are secure, like Proton VPN, youll find its inability to choose a server annoying. Yet, itll always connect you to the closest US server, which still doesnt let you bypass the TikTok ban and enjoy the app properly.Free VPNs are famous for their heavy logging. They also resort to selling your sensitive information. Putting your privacy on the line is all but pleasant and these VPNs are hell-bent on testing your limits.Another issue is speed and bandwidth restrictions. This will prevent you from accessing TikTok in the United States whenever you want. Imagine running out of bandwidth abruptly. You have to wait for an entire month to be refilled with a measly 2-10 GB of bandwidth spent in 2-3 days.NordVPN can be used for free for 30 days, as hinted at before.Simply buy the VPN, enjoy its benefits, and be refunded in 30 days to not lose a cent. Thats the way to ensure safety, security, privacy, and unlimited speeds and bandwidth. Is It Legal to Use TikTok in the USA With a VPN?Yes, its legal. If you know a thing or two (or three) about VPNs, you know the US government doesnt actually frown upon them. In recent guides, we explained how a VPN helps you unblock Pornhub in Florida, Texas, and other states. There, we clarified that VPN users never faced jail time and other forms of punishment for using a VPN. In the same fashion, you can bypass the TikTok ban in the USA with NordVPN and no one will bat an eye!Just be sure not to use NordVPN for other illicit activities. Downloading copyrighted files is still illegal itll always be. The same goes for distributing copyrighted material, selling drugs on the dark web, and so on.Why Is TikTok Banned in the USA?Okay, so as you likely know, TikTok is a Chinese application. To be precise, its owned by a Chinese company called ByteDance. The USA and China always had this flimsy relationship because of alleged Chinese spying on the US residents. American authorities are afraid that TikTok can be used as a vessel that would allow China to obtain sensitive data from Americans. In April 2024, President Biden signed the law also known as the PAFCA bill (Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications). The law had a clear goal in mind to BAN TikTok in the USA within the first year IF its used for sale. While the ban was scheduled for Sunday, TikTok was trigger-happy and voluntarily shut down its service for the US residents the day before. When you open its app in the USA, youre welcomed by this message: Gizmodo.comAs explained, you can overcome it with NordVPN simply by swapping your American IP address for a new one abroad, despite the complex background of the US TikTok ban.The Future of TikTok in the USWill the ban be active indefinitely? Luckily for millions of influencers, it likely wont be.Joseph Biden signed the PAFCA bill but Donald Trump who will inevitably take office again, promised to sort this issue out.Trump indicated that he will negotiate with TikTok to allow the service to function in the US and be fully available. Until then, we have to play the waiting game. The game that no one likes, especially those who live off TikTok.As things stand, the app has been removed from Apples and Googles app stores. We await President Trumps valiant efforts to bring back the beloved social media app. Until then, you can rely on NordVPN to bypass the TikTok ban and enjoy it without restrictions.Bypass TikTok Ban in the US With NordVPN
