Will GTA 6 cost 80? Report says there's industry "hope" Rockstar will usher in another game price riseAs much as $100 in US.Image credit: Rockstar Games News by Tom Phillips Editor-in-Chief Published on Jan. 20, 2025 An annual report into the state of video games has raised eyebrows for suggesting Rockstar will sell the long-awaited behemoth that is GTA 6 for $100 - around 80.The amount could be justified by the game's enormous budget and would fit with a similar move by GTA publisher Take-Two back at the start of the current console generation, when it helped lead the charge in raising game prices previously.Indeed, the report - published by Matthew Ball of Epyllion - suggests there is "hope" within the wider video game industry that prices do rise closer to an average 80/$100 price point to reflect rising development costs. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart 9 have been revealed - but questions remain.Watch on YouTubeIn 2020, the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S saw the average boxed game release shift upwards to around 70 here in the UK. Numerous big budget releases also offer premium editions priced even higher, with added in-game content, or early access dangled as an incentive. But will it happen? Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad has offered another view, which is that GTA 5 has - and continues to - earn so much recurring revenue through GTA Online that a higher price to play the game upfront isn't necessary."I'd be surprised if this happens," Ahmad wrote on X. "If anything Take-Two could afford to lower the price (they won't) to get more people in given how much they earn via GTA Online."Besides, you don't need to raise prices when a good chunk of pre-orders will be for a $100 SKU with bonuses anyway."Last month, Eurogamer spoke with Shawn Layden, former chairman of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, on the issue of ballooning game costs and what he believes should be done to bring prices down. "I'm afraid we've built AAA gaming into a kind of cathedral business, and it just can't grow any further," Layden said. "In fact, it's probably grown too far already."

  • Destiny 2 Player Housing was a dream for so many devs, but Bungie thought it wouldnt make enough money

You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games hereWith plummeting player numbers and a severe lack of engaging content, it feels like Destiny 2 is on its way out. However, the lack of interesting additions to the game isnt due to a lack of ideas, but because of a focus on Return on Investment. For years, fans of the game have asked for the addition of player housing, giving players a customisable space to call their own. As it turns out, many developers wanted to add this key MMO feature to the game, but it was shut down as it wouldnt have make enough money.Destiny 2 Player HousingRevealed by ex-Bungie community manager Lianna Rupert, so many developers at the company fought to add player housing to Destiny 2. While developers constantly brought up the idea, there was the possibility it wouldnt bring in enough money to justify its development time.Oh man, so many devs wanted this when I was there, the community manager explained. Itd be so dope but phew would a lot of things need to change in the game and resource-wise internally to make that happen with the ROI at a level that would mark it as a beneficial inclusion. The dreaaaaam.Of course, many MMOs have their own player housing system, and many of them use it to increase revenue for the title. For example, Zenimaxs Elder Scrolls Online has a massive player housing system with premium houses and premium furniture that helps to keep the game afloat. Even older MMOs like Lord of the Rings Online stay alive by the premium cost associated with having the best virtual crib.Thats not to say that bringing Player Housing to Destiny 2 would be easy, but its clear that the feature could be monetised in a way to make a return on the investment of adding it. At least, it couldve when the game had considerably more players. For more coverage of Bungies MMOFPS, read about why it may finally be time to un-vault old content, or read about the latest buffs and nerfs for the game.Destiny 2Platform(s):Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Web, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/XGenre(s):Action, Adventure, First Person, Massively Multiplayer, Shooter8VideoGamerSubscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

  • You'll be able to turn cross-play off on consoles in Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play sometime in Season 2

Cross-BlockedYou'll be able to turn cross-play off on consoles in Black Ops 6 and Warzone Ranked Play sometime in Season 2Treyarch is making a few changes to Ranked Play in Black Ops 6 as well as Warzone, as the developer gears up for the launch of the game's second season.Image credit: Activision, Treyarch, Raven. News by Sherif Saed Contributing Editor Published on Jan. 20, 2025 Ahead of the launch of Season 2 for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, Treyarch has been offering some updates on many of the topics currently hot amongst the community. Among them is the evergreen discussion on the viability of cross-play in ranked matches. The developer also addressed many other contentious topics, including the apparent rise of cheating across the two games, as well as the moderation teams decision to silence players who dont believe they were abusive in their language on voice comms. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. In a community update, Treyarch revealed that its working on several changes to improve the experience of playing Black Ops 6 and Warzone in Season 2. The post addresses several growing grievances the community has had for a while now.Getting down to it, the developer confirmed that players will soon be able to toggle cross-play off on consoles, but only in Ranked Play. This goes for both Black Ops 6, as well as Warzone. The feature is currently in testing, and will arrive sometime during Season 2.Ranked players will also be happy to know that Vote to Forfeit is coming back, letting you end a losing match early rather than have to sit through it. A forfeited match counts as a normal loss, but wont result in SR penalties. The even bigger news is that join-in-progress is coming to Ranked Play, which should get your teammate who keeps disconnecting back in quickly. Do these updates actually convince people of anything? | Image credit: Activision, Treyarch. The post also addresses the player sentiment that theres an apparent increase in cheating. According to the post, there are several contributing factors at work, which dont all come back to simple aimbotting or other blatant cheats. In particular, the developer touched on the degrading quality of matches, which causes a lot of rubber-banding and cases of severe packet loss that both contribute to a poor gameplay experience. Eventually, this could also lead to server disconnects. There are indeed some players who seem to be common in crashed lobbies. While it doesnt sound like the team has a permanent solution yet, Demonware developers have been working to identify the root cause of these targeted crashes, and upgrade server infrastructure and code to combat them. Its also worth noting that some regions suffer from this more than others, depending on how large the player pool is and how wide server capacity is. Don't be a dick. | Image credit: Activision, Treyarch, Raven.A particularly touchy subject since midway through the first season has been a growing concern that voice chat moderation is a little too eager to take action against players for simply taunting or trash talking other players. At least, thats the story those players tell.Treyarch, however, believes the system is working as intended to stop harassment and hate speech, but those unsatisfied with the teams moderation decisions will be happy to learn that the moderation team hosts several regural tuning session to examine the process and make sure everyone is on the same page regarding what constitutes inappropriate language. Finally, the blog post stressed that mass-reporting does not result in the player getting reported being banned. Some cheat makers sell tools that essentially let you mass-report a single player, but Treyarch says those are useless, as mass reports are always flagged as suspicious and show up on the system as a single report. The team is able to identify actual multiple reports against one player, and there are systems in place to detect when certain groups of cheaters play together and raises red flags so the team can investigate. The post is fairly comprehensive, and you can read it at the link above. Season 2 kicks off Tuesday, January 28.

  • BellaSeno reports successful trial results for its resorbable breast scaffolds
    3dprintingindustry.com
German medical startup BellaSeno has shared promising results from its Australian clinical trials leveraging resorbable breast implants. These proposed studies assessed the use of biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds as an alternative to traditional silicone implants for breast augmentation revisions and pectus excavatum correction.Having begun in 2022, these trials involved 19 breast augmentation patients and 7 individuals with pectus excavatum, a congenital chest wall condition. All participants have now completed their one-year follow-ups, with findings showing no major complications linked to the scaffolds and no instances of scaffold removal. This is a very encouraging one-year clinical outcome, said Mohit Chhaya, CEO of BellaSeno. The data confirm that our resorbable scaffolds do not only meet the desired safety criteria but also show an improvement of patients quality of life.He further added that the strong clinical data set now provides a solid foundation to initiate a pivotal study of its resorbable breast scaffolds in the U.S. and Europe. Whats more, plans are underway to expand the use of these scaffolds to primary breast augmentation and lumpectomy procedures, with a final two-year follow-up scheduled for release next year.3D printed resorbable breast implant. Image via BellaSeno.BellaSenos 3D printed resorbable breast implantsDesigned as interventional, single-arm clinical investigations, the studies focused on the safety and performance of BellaSenos resorbable implants. While post-surgery safety was the primary objective, patient outcomes, including quality of life and implant performance, were also evaluated.According to the data, no serious issues such as infections, calcifications, or capsular contracture were reported, and all adverse events observed were within anticipated limits for revision surgeries. After twelve months, patients described being pain-free and unaware of the scaffolds presence. Additionally, the scaffolds demonstrated reliable volume replacement capabilities, with no replacements or removals required in either group.Clinical investigators noted improved satisfaction among breast augmentation patients compared to their experiences with silicone implants. Feedback highlighted enhanced comfort and quality of life following the transition to BellaSenos biodegradable scaffolds.Similar positive outcomes were observed in the pectus excavatum group, further underscoring the potential of this approach in addressing both reconstructive and cosmetic needs.BellaSenos trials illustrate the viability of fully resorbable scaffolds in surgical procedures, offering a safe and effective solution for patients. With a focus on integrating natural tissue over time, this technology could pave the way for more sustainable and patient-friendly alternatives to traditional implants.Since 2015, BellaSeno has focused on developing an alternative to silicone breast implants. Over the next few years, the company secured ISO 13485 certification for its Senella breast scaffolds, and entered into a long-term agreement with German specialty chemicals company Evonik to utilize its bioresorbable polymer RESOMER in the production of these 3D printed scaffolds.A sample of Evonik RESOMER material. Photo via Evonik3D printed resorbable implantsOver the past few years, resorbable implant technologies are advancing to provide safer and more natural breast reconstruction options. For instance, Lyon-based regenerative medicine startup Healshape raised $6.8 million in Series A funding to advance its bioprinted breast implants, designed for women recovering from mastectomies. Using a resorbable hydrogel scaffold and living patient cells, the implants reconstruct breast tissue and the nipple-areolar complex while reducing the risk of rejection.Over time, the hydrogel is replaced by natural tissue, with full regeneration expected within six to nine months. Supported by Pulsalys SAS and over $1 million in French public funding since its 2020 launch, the medicine startup planned to begin clinical trials within two years of receiving the funding. In an interview, Julien Payen, CEO and Co-founder of Lattice Medical, discussed the companys breakthrough in natural breast reconstruction through its 100% resorbable Mattisse implantable device.Designed for women recovering from mastectomies, the implant enables autologous reconstruction by regenerating vascularized tissue flaps harvested locally from the breast area, avoiding the need for silicone implants or complex microsurgery. This implant resorbs fully within 18 months, leaving patients with a natural breast, free of scars or long-term risks.Who won the 20243D Printing Industry Awards? All the news fromFormnext 2024.To stay up to date with the latest 3D printing news, dont forget to subscribe to the 3D Printing Industry newsletter or follow us on Twitter, or like our page on Facebook. While youre here, why not subscribe to our Youtube channel? Bristow Mews | Taran WilkhuSituated in Streatham, South East London, Bristow Mews is a residential development that transforms a former coach house and derelict garages into housing. The project maintains the sites historical essence while integrating modern design principles. The development consists of three homes: a refurbished coach house and two new builds designed to respond to its urban and environmental context.Bristow Mews Technical InformationArchitects1-6: MW ArchitectsLocation: Streatham, SE London, United KingdomClient/Developer: This is KinlandBuilding Levels: 2Completion Year: 2022Photographs: Taran WilkhuStructurally the scheme was challenging because the spaces are very open plan, it would have been easier to break that up with walls but we worked hard to maintain the quality of space. This adaptive reuse strategy preserves the traditional mews atmosphere while integrating contemporary construction. The projects adjacency to a covered reservoir grants residents unobstructed views, an uncommon feature in a dense urban environment.Matt Heath initially conceptualized the project, and MW Architects was responsible for the detailed design and execution. This is their first collaboration with developer This is Kinland. The project seeks to balance quality and feasibility, differing from volume-driven housing models.MW Architects, known for their private residential projects, approached Bristow Mews as an opportunity to apply their experience to small-scale speculative development. The result is a space composition emphasizing material selection and structural integrity over standardized developer constraints.Design Analysis & MaterialityBristow Mews comprises three residences, each with a distinct spatial approach. House 1, positioned to the south, benefits from elevated living spaces that maximize available views. The two additional homes prioritize open-plan configurations while maintaining structural integrity. The project balances solid and void, with large openings allowing natural light into the interiors. The distribution of private gardens and a shared courtyard encourages a sense of community within the development.Externally, the development features a brick-and-block cavity wall systemwith a herringbone brick pattern, which referencestraditional masonry techniques. The brickwork emphasizes durability and aesthetic depth.Internally, the houses incorporate oak joinery in stair treads, wardrobes, and bathroom vanities. The materialpalette also includes paint, micro-cement kitchen worktops, and polished concrete floors. contributection includes Craig & Roses Morris Blue and Comiston, and Little Greenes Harley Green. Kitchen cabinetry is finished in spray-painted hues with metal folded handles, while Smith & Goat concrete sinks are used in the bathrooms.Sustainability & Technical InnovationsBristow Mews incorporates sustainability features that improve energy efficiency. Key elements include:Air Source Heat Pumps for heating and hot water,High insulation values for thermal performance,Green roofs for biodiversity and reducing urban heat gain,Double- and triple-glazed windows for thermal and acoustic insulation,Electric vehicle charging stations. These strategies improve energy performance while maintaining traditional construction techniques.A key challenge was maintaining open-plan configurations without compromising stability. Instead of additional structural elements, MW Architects developed a system that preserves visual continuity and spatial openness. • The Self-Driving Race Continues At CES 2025
    www.forbes.com
The competition to win in self-driving saw setbacks in 2024, but things were still going strong at CES. CES is not longer really a consumer electronics showeven the classic large consumer electronics vendors like Samsung, LG, Sony and more made their booths mostly about the AI they want to serve (not physically sell) you. Its become a transportation show and the new West Hall and some of the North hall were devoted to that. The Zeekr vehicle decked out with Waymo sensorsBrad TempletonU.S. Automakers were largely absent this time, though a few new Chinese ones made appearances. The most important company in self-driving, Waymo, showed off two versions of their 6th generation hardware, one on the promised Zeekr minivan platform and another on the non-Chinese Ioniq 5 platform meant to replace it due to the 100% tariff put on Chinese import vehicles. Waymo continues to develop for the Zeekr, and some analysis of the law states they will be exempt from the tariffs until they Ioniq is ready. The Zeekr is a taller, more spacious minivan, which may be preferred by customers over a crossover-SUV.Zeekr in face to face seating configurationBrad TempletonZeekr had their own booth, and showed off a version of the vehicle with the front seats reversed to offer face-to-face seating, with the steering wheel blocked. Waymo might offer this configuration in future, it is speculated. Indeed, Waymo can still use the Zeekr after the tariffs in many other countries of the world outside the USA if they allow Chinese made vehicles.Chinese made vehicles have strong advantages for robotaxis, due to low cost, speed of manufacture, an no need for well known nameplates or even high mechanical reliability.Hyundai Ioniq based Waymo 6th generation vehicleBrad TempletonOn the other hand, Korean makers like Hyundai also can made good value vehicles and are well known around the world. The Ioniq should also be popular and produce a good taxi ride at a reasonable price.MORE FOR YOULidars and Imaging RadarsCES has always featured a ton of LIDAR companies, and this year they were back in force, in spite of the diminishing number of self-driving teams to sell to. Indeed, most of them now see initial sales volume coming from regular automakers hoping to make higher quality driver-assist tools and ADAS pilot tools which drive with human supervision, or perhaps so called level 3 cars which drive on highways while a human is able to ignore the road, but must take over before going to city streets or certain complex situations. The volume of robotaxis being made today is much smaller than the LIDAR companies hoped it would be at this point.Israeli LIDAR company Innoviz is in the VW ID Buzz self-driving prototype.Brad TempletonEven so theres a large set of offerings, with Chinese vendors Hesai and Robosense leading in volume. There were long range FMCW 1550nm LIDARs, and lower cost, shorter range units galore. One interesting pitch came from Israeli companies who hope that they might gain a special edge simply be being neither Chinese nor American. The US may resist Chinese LIDAR and China may resist LIDAR from the USA, leaving other countries the only ones able to supply for use globally. Or so they hope. One company not talking LIDAR was one of the worlds biggest automotive suppliers: Bosch. Previously, Bosch had promised they would release a LIDAR that would outperform all others in the market, and presumably sell well considering the strong position of Bosch in the industry. They have dropped this product, according to a spokesperson. There was even more growth in the area of imaging radar. Traditional automotive radars are very low resolution. So low that theyre not useful for detecting static objects like debris on the road or stalled cars. The whole world is static objects. Radar is great at seeing moving objects because it detects speed. Imaging radars get enough resolutionsome claiming below 0.5 degreesthat they can perhaps even replace the LIDAR. Thats good because they can have lower cost, and also because they are immune to fog and other weather. Most teams, though, are not yet seeking to save money by replacing a sensor. They want the very best, even at higher cost, and will work to be cheap later. Some imaging radar suppliers have special hardware, some only provide software. Like almost every booth at CES, the buzzword was AIin this case the use of AI pattern matching techniques to better classify radar targets and even improve resolution on figuring out their location.MayWith Cruise, Argo and Apple gone, and Motional under doubt, the US robotaxi space is now limited to mainly Waymo and Zoox. Zoox was present on the show floor, and giving rides to press, but their planned public launch in Las Vegas for 2024 was delayed. The press rides suggest it should happen in 2025, though, and not just staying in Vegas since San Francisco is also planned.May Mobility self-driving shuttleBrad TempletonThe other player present was May Mobility, which is operating vehicles with no safety driver in limited environments in Ann Arbor, Michigan. May has put focus on shuttles, with more constrained routes with limited stops. That makes the problem easier for a smaller company like May, but means they are not quite ready for robotaxi. May is doing operations with safety drivers in some other cities like Miami, Martinez, Grand Rapids, Arlington, Sun City AZ and Detroit. Also present was MobilEye (who I will cover later) and Helm.AI which announced a partnership with Honda (and thus Nissan.) Helm.AI doesnt have a working self-driving stack at present, but they will be hard at work to help Honda make level 3 cars. The StrangeThis futuristic truck with 6 wheels has a short range human-carrying multirotor in the backBrad TempletonOne Chinese company had a prototype on offer with a big truck with a special payload bay containing a single-person multirotor aircraft with a short range. Owners of this vehicle, costing around $340,000 if and when it ships, will be able to drive to remote locations, and have fun flying around. Mostly for fun and sightseeing, though if you had a hilltop house it could make sense as a quick way for one person to travel to it quickly. The Pivotal (formerly Opener Blackfly) was also on display, and its realthey had actual customers on hand talking about flying experiences. Though they wont say how many they have shipped, but its not a lot.Chinese electric motorhome with massive slide-out for real spaceBrad TempletonThis motorhome was still full of rough edges, but it was all electric and included the most spacious slide-out living room Ive seen in an RV. They had specs, but at this point its not clear how meaningful they are, as its years away. The Pebble electric trailer, which Ive covered previously, was also there, a bit further along, as well as another competing electric trailer, in which the entire top of the trailer lowers down (like a pop-up trailer on steroids) to make it half-height while being towed. The big issue with towing in EVs is that it cuts range in half or more, and thats a real barrier. Reducing the cross section of the trailer is the most effective way to reduce the drag and increase the range. The Lightship trailer is still not ready for production, though they forecast it to start manufacturing in 2025, at a cost similar to the Pebble. There was, of course, much moreyou cant possibly tour all of CES during its 4 days, though the traffic was still down a fair bit from the Covid days. Exhibit hall space, on the other hand, was starting to match the former era, so the show is bouncing back. By far the biggest theme was a claim that products are now AI enabled. Most of the claims were hype, unfortunately, but this wont end any time soon.

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng speaks at the opening ceremony of the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing on Nov. 26, 2024.Kyodo News/Getty ImagesBy Associated PressJanuary 20, 2025 3:35 AM ESTBEIJING Chinas vice president held meetings with the U.S. vice president-elect and U.S. business leaders, including Elon Musk, in Washington on the eve of Donald Trumps inauguration, as the two major powers tackle ongoing tensions over trade and technology.Han Zheng, who serves as an envoy for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the inauguration, discussed a range of topics including fentanyl, balancing trade and regional stability with J.D. Vance, according to the Trump transition team.Han stressed the extensive common interests and enormous space of cooperation the United States and China share in economic and trade relations despite some disagreements and frictions, according to a readout of his meeting with Vance issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday.Trump has threatened to impose tariffs and other measures against China in his second term, while also hinting and ways in which the two rival powers could cooperate on issues such as regional conflicts and curbing the export of substances used in the production of fentanyl. In an unorthodox move, Trump last month invited Xi to his inauguration. No head of state has previously made an official visit to the U.S. for the inauguration, according to State Department historical records. While Xi will not personally attend the event, he and Trump held a phone call on Friday during which they discussed trade, fentanyl and TikTok. The Chinese social media app restored service to users in the U.S. on Sunday, just hours after it went dark in response to a federal ban, which Trump said he would pause by executive order on Monday.Han also met with Musk and other top U.S. business executives, including representatives of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The Chinese vice president reiterated promises for an improved business environment for foreign firms in China and expressed hopes that U.S. companies will continue expanding investment in the country.Musk, whose company Tesla operates a factory in Shanghai, posted on his platform X after the meeting that he has long opposed the TikTok ban because it goes against freedom of speech. That said, the current situation where TikTok is allowed to operate in America, but X is not allowed to operate in China is unbalanced, he wrote.
