• Is this the Nintendo Switch 2 price? as launch games 'leak' for next console
    www.dailystar.co.uk
The Switch 2 has been revealed, and analysts have suggested it'll be much cheaper than its rivals while leaks have suggested what we'll be playing on launch dayTech14:44, 20 Jan 2025Nintendo have finally announced the Switch 2Nintendo finally revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 last week, but it's glitzy trailer didn't give a lot away outside of the revised physical design.Still, that's enough to get us all excited for the full reveal on April 2, but one thing we may know already is the launch price. That's thanks to analysts weighing in at IGN, all of whom are expecting the system is likely to launch at a price point of $400 dollars (that's around 325).That's certainly good news with the PS5 Pro costing 700 and reports GTA 6 could be priced as high as $100, but Nintendo's new system is seemingly shaping up to be cheaper than you may have expected. The analysts did suggest that if the Switch 2 is in high demand that it could end up costing more, but one even suggested PS5 and Xbox Series X could have sold for more than they originally launched at."If the Switch 2 is supply-constrained at launch, Nintendo could charge more," Rhys Elliot of MIDiA told IGN. "Early adopters would be willing to pay for it, and if it's going to sell out anyway, Nintendo might think, 'Why not?' I think Sony and Microsoft regret releasing the base PS5 and Series X consoles at $500. Both could have got away with $600 or more at launch."Also, Nintendo, unlike the other platform holders almost wholly relies on its console business, so it cannot as easily take big loss-leading risks on pricing (the console itself would need to be profitable, not just offset by software sales)."So what will we be playing on it? Well, we know there will be Switch 2 exclusives and backward compatibility, and that the controller might double as a mouse. We've also heard that one AAA third-party game could be making the jump, and there was a new Mario Kart title teased in the reveal trailer above, but what else?Since the console was announced we've heard rumblings of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Mirage (but not Shadows), The Division and Rainbow Six Siege making the jump, as well as Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake and Monster Hunter Wilds (the latter of which would certainly be an impressive technical feat).Elsewhere rumours have pointed to Halo: The Master Chief Collection from Microsoft as it continues its push to go multiplatform, as well as a Switch 2 port of Elden Ring (maybe with the expansion included). We'll be sure to keep you updated, but coming off such a big-seller with the Switch, it'll be exciting to see Nintendo firing on all cylinders.Article continues belowFor the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.RECOMMENDED

  • Nintendo Switch to get final big game as leaker teases secret Direct
    metro.co.uk
Dare we hope for a new F-Zero? (Nintendo)An insider claims another Nintendo Direct is planned before the big Switch 2 blowout, which will apparently include a major unannounced game. The bulk of anticipation recently has been centred around Nintendos next console, but theres still several major games planned for the original Switch. The two big titles we know about are Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokmon Legends: Z-A, which are expected to be released at some point in 2025. Outside of this, theres Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and the recently released Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.While it appeared as if these might be the last major first party games for the Switch, an insider claims theres one big game yet to be announced. In a post on Famiboards, known leaker PH Brazil clarified comments he made on the O X do Controle podcast, where he teased therell be one final big game that is a new version of a niche beloved franchise. Its one game, he wrote in a post to address confusion. Im talking about a single new game in that podcast. Theres no new version of a niche beloved franchise separate from a final big game. He went onto clarify that it isnt a remaster either. Theres no indication of what the game could be, but he does claim it will be announced during a Nintendo Direct in February, which will be focused on games for the current console. At the time of writing, Nintendo has only announced a Direct on April 2, 2025 for the Switch 2.Nintendo has usually held a Nintendo Direct in February (although last years was a Partner Direct), so its certainly possible we could see another this year especially to showcase Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or announce previously rumoured ports like Kirby: Planet Robobot.Pokmon Legends: Z-A, meanwhile, is expected to be shown during the annual Pokmon Presents showcase, which is usually held on February 27 aka Pokmon Day.As for what the unannounced game could be, a new Fire Emblem would certainly fit the niche beloved franchise description, although its only been two years since the last entry Fire Emblem Engage. Theres also long dormant series like F-Zero, Chibi-Robo, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, or something like Punch-Out!!While its best to remain sceptical in regards to these rumours, PH Brazil has been accurate in the past about Nintendo Direct timeframes so well simply have to wait and see if another presentation is announced.More TrendingIf youre more interested in anything Switch 2, you can now register for the chance to play the console early at various events starting in April. • Everything to Remember Before Star Trek: Section 31
    gizmodo.com
This weekStar Trek boldly goes with the first major movie of its streaming era: Section 31, a long-in-the-works former series turned into a streaming movie vehicle for Michelle Yeoh, returning to the franchise for the first time since she exitedDiscovery in 2020. But aside from the controversial spy organization that gives the film its name, heres what else you need to know coming into the film. What Is Section 31? First introduced in the sixth season ofStar Trek: Deep Space Nine, Section 31 is a clandestine intelligence branch of the Federationseparate from the public facing intelligence wing of Starfleetintended to act as a black ops organization with the remit to act against existential threats to the Federation. Named for a clause in Starfleets charter that allowed for extraordinary measures in the face of extreme threats, Section 31 operated without official knowledge or guidance from the Federation or Starfleet at large, performing wetworks, subterfuge, and counterintelligence operations throughout the history of Starfleet. Although introduced inDeep Space Nine at the height of the Dominion War arc, Section 31 would make appearances inEnterprise andDiscovery to establish their roots earlier within Star Treks primary timeline, but ever since its debut, the group has been seen as deeply controversial byStar Trek fans for what the existence of secret police within the franchises utopian setting means for the idealistic nature of that utopia. The Brief, Universe-Hopping History of Philippa Georgiou Discovery first introduced Michelle Yeohs Philippa Georgiou as the captain of the USS Shenzhou, only for her to be killed in action at the outbreak of the Klingon-Federation war portrayed throughout the shows first season. However, Yeoh would return to portray the character later that same season during a plotline set in Star Treks infamous parallel reality, the Mirror Universe. There, Georgiou was not an officer in the Terran Empire, but its Emperorand after surviving a coup attempt, she was brought back with the crew of the Discovery toStar Treks prime universe at the behest of Michael Burnham, who had been a protg of the prime Georgiou and first officer aboard theShenzhou. Mirror Georgiou was recruited into Section 31 after the conclusion of the war, acting as an agent initially tasked with maintaining the stability of the Klingon Empires post-war chancellor, LRell. But she eventually made her way back aboard the Discovery when the ship was forced to send itself thousands of years in to the future to the 32nd Century to destroy a rogue artificial intelligence developed by Section 31, Control. However, temporal distance from both her home reality and her home timeline caused Georgiou to begin destabilizing on a molecular level. After encountering the Guardian of Forever, who tested Georgiou to see if her time in the prime universe had changed her as a person, she was sent back to an undisclosed time period (more on that later) where the Mirror and Prime universes were still aligned, allowing her to stay in the latter universe without the threat of destabilization. Paramount Who Else Is in Section 31? Yeohs Georgiou is the primary returning character inSection 31, but shes not the only familiar character among its cast of mostly new characters. Heres a brief rundown of the main Section 31 agents were set to meet in the movie: Omari Hardwick playsAlok, the leader of a Section 31 cell on a secret mission that recruits Georgiou in an attempt to make her pay for her past crimes as the Terran Emperor. Robert Kazinsky playsZeph, Aloks right hand man who lives inside a mechanical exoskeleton. Sam Richardson playsQuasi, another agent on Aloks team, and a Chameloid, a shapeshifting race first seen in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Humberly Gonzalez playsMelle, a Deltan agent on Aloks team who, unlike prior Deltans to join Starfleet, did not take an oath of celibacy, allowing her to use her species natural charms to benefit Section 31. Sven Ruygrok plays the most mysterious member of Aloks team, known only asFuzz. Described as a fun-loving character with anger issues, his pointed ears suggest he may either be a surprisingly emotional Vulcan or perhaps one of their sister species, the Romulans. Rounding out the main cast is Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett, a young Starfleet officer assigned to Aloks team for oversight purposes, despite official knowledge of the divisions existence being classified. Garrett has previously appeared inStar Trek before in the Next Generation episode Yesterdays Enterprise, where she was played by Tricia ONeil, and was captain of the USS Enterprise-C until its destruction defending a Klingon outpost from Romulan forces in 2344. When Is Section 31 Set? While we dont have an exact setting for the movie just yet beyond the fact that its set inStar Treks prime reality, the existence of Rachel Garrett in the cast suggests that the series has to be set some time in the early 24th century, given that she has not yet ascended to the rank of captain nor taken command of the Enterprise-C. This would setSection 31 in a period largely uncovered byStar Trek on the small screen, commonly known as the Lost Era. The original series was set during the late 2260s, with its successor films taking place from the 2270s through to the 2290s, while The Next Generation began in 2364, shortly after the commissioning of the Enterprise-D almost 20 years after its predecessors destruction.TheEnterprise-C itself operated in a period of time where the Federation and the Klingon Empires relationship after the signing of the Khitomer Accords peace treaty at the end of the 23rd century was still relatively strained. It took the Federation flagships sacrifice safeguarding Klingon forces to strengthen relations between the two factions, eventually leading to the formal Treaty of Alliance established some time between 2344 and the events of The Next Generationwhich could give us some hints as to what the state of the universe is like by the time of Section 31. Section 31 hits Paramount+ starting January 24. Want more io9 news? A small, cozy restaurant in Copenhagen, featuring unique, raw furniture and objects, all handmade in Poland. Amator is a new, beloved spot for guests in the peaceful district of Copenhagen sterbro. It combines a caf, a restaurant, and a venue for private dinners, which the owner, Mateusz Sarnowski, known as Mati Pichci, describes as a "home dining room" (in Danish: hjemme spisested). Mati's favorite dish, the classic omelet, is the centerpiece and iconic item on the menu. During the day, the kitchen serves breakfasts and lunches, offering light, flavorful dishes based on seasonal vegetables. Evenings are reserved for private and corporate candlelit dinners. Mati began his journey in Copenhagen five years ago as an intern at the renowned restaurant Noma, and his passion eventually led him to open his own place. He approached his friend, Adam Wierciski, founder of wiercinski-studio, to help bring his vision to life. The result of their collaboration is the first interior in Copenhagen designed by the Polish architect.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The intention behind Amator was to create a space where guests could feel a warm, homely atmosphere, conceptually inspired by the social gatherings organized by Mateusz. The small space influenced the original functional and design assumptions. The central element of the interior is a communal table made up of small tabletops, interspersed with characteristic plates used for serving dishes, candles, or drinks. Minimal gaps between the tabletops give the impression of separate tables, but by pulling out steel rings, they can be combined into one large dinner table. Each oak tabletop is angled, together forming a distinctive jagged line. Complementing the tables are space-saving, minimalist oak stools, which are the first products in the upcoming wiercinski-objects series. The intimate space of Amator is filled with custom furniture designed by Adam Wiercinski in his signature style. Simple, geometric constructions made of raw steel, showing visible signs of handcrafting, are combined with solid, natural oak. These materials in their authentic form provided the main colors for the interior, symbolically reflecting Mati's honest cuisine.Save this picture!Save this picture! The chef's constant contact with guests is essential. A bar, built from the same materials and enhanced with brown mirrors, separates the open kitchen, which is also visible from the outside through a large, elegant storefront. By the window, the designer placed a high counter where guests can sit and enjoy views of Copenhagen's townhouses. Importantly, all furniture and details were crafted in Poland by skilled artisans and transported to Copenhagen. On the walls hang shelves that appear to float against wrinkled, natural Polish linen. Additional custom details include stainless steel sconces, mirrors, a steel washbasin, and bar stools that echo elements of small architecture on the sidewalk in front of Amator. Near the entrance, guests are greeted by a wall-mounted installation featuring a piece of a tree trunk from a Polish forest, a subtle nod by the designer to the project's leading materials. Breaking the custom furniture's aesthetic are yellow plywood shelves reminiscent of home interiors. Their color ties into the space's signature feature: a yellow dot.Save this picture! For Mati, enhancing the culinary experience with beautiful, high-quality sound is essential. At the back of the venue, under a window, is a vinyl shelf designed by Adam, topped with custom-made speakers from the local company Arda Audio. A turntable and a captivating vinyl record collection are among the elements defining the concept of enjoying time at Amator.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Copenhagen, DenmarkLocation to be used only as a reference. All you need to do is shake the pack vigorously for a couple of seconds, triggering a safe chemical reaction that will lead to up to 10 hours of consistent heat in 15 to 30 minutes.Things to consider when looking for the best hand warmersThe best hand warmers are designed to keep you toasty throughout the duration of your outdoor activity. Some are reusable, some are rechargeable, and some are disposable, perfect if you want to toss them in the trash after you hit the slopes or get a drink aprs ski. Weve broken down the various types of hand warmers out there and also provided some of our favorite options below.Lets start with the basics: chemically activated, reusable hand warmersReusable hand warmers are a fantastic way to keep cozy in cold weather. They eliminate the need to run out to store for replacements, plus, they can be easily shared. There are a few popular types of reusable hand warmers, differentiated by heating mechanism. Some reusable pairs look like ice/heat packs found in first aid kits. These are chemically activated. Inside each pack is a metal disk that needs to be snapped or bent to release a heat-generating compound. Inside, sodium acetate (a food-safe ingredient found in salt), water, and energy mix to form solid crystals. This process produces an exothermic reaction, raising the packs temperature to roughly 130 degrees Fahrenheit in under 10 seconds. After a packs first use, youll need to boil the hand warmers for approximately 10 minutes before using them again, effectively reactivating the chemicals and returning the sodium acetate to its liquid form. These typically last between 30 minutes to an hour, though you can extend the heating time by adding extra packs or keeping them in coat pockets. If youre an athlete, you can use them for additional relief on sore muscles. They are safe on the skin, but of course, take precautions when handling hot objects. What are the best hand warmers for longevity? If you need more than an hour of heat time but like the idea of simple reusable hand warmers without worrying about recharging, lighter-fuel-based models are the best option for you. Yes, we understand that filling something with lighter fluid, activating it, and stuffing it in your pockets seems a little outlandish, but trust us when we say youll keep warm all day.Much like a regular lighter, these hand warmers, once filled with fuel, use a catalytic burner to generate heat. (Unlike a regular burner, you wont see any external flames.) To ignite, hold a flame to it for roughly 10 seconds. Doing so will create a small internal furnace that can burn anywhere from six to 12 hours, depending on the model. Remember, once the warmer is ignited, you wont be able to stop the heat until it naturally burns off. You can, however, place the hand warmer on a fireproof surface once youre done using it and let it naturally smolder out.Refillable hand warmers are not meant to be applied directly to the skin; most come with a small pouch into which you can place the warmer and then hold or slip into a coat pocket. Due to the delicate nature of the fill material, a.k.a. flammable fluid, we dont recommend using these for intense sports such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, or hockey. We do, however, recommend them for long hikes, camping trips, cold offices, and cross-country car rides. Theres nothing worse than driving through Colorado in the middle of winter when your heat is broken.Consider rechargeable hand warmersIf youre ready to get a little more high-tech, plenty of rechargeable hand warmers are out there. These typically use electricity and a lithium-ion battery to generate heat. The models might be slightly thicker than refillable options, but they dont differ too much in overall size, so theyll still fit nicely in pockets or gloves. The pros of rechargeables include long-lasting warmth with the ability to heat between two to eight hours. Plus, if youre done with your outdoor activity or sufficiently warmed up, you can simply turn off the device. Many have heat-customization settings and the ability to charge other electronic devices simultaneously. You just have to remember to charge them. Simply plug in the hand warmer when not in use, and youll never be left out in the cold. While we love a rechargeable option, there are a few cons you should know about. Rechargeable hand warmers are susceptible to water damage, so its probably best to keep them away from snow and sleet. Also, heat consistency can be a bit sporadic depending on the temperature outside. The overall heating time can also be affected by the cold, impacting the battery lifespan. Overall, we consider these to be minor impediments because a rechargeable warmers heating time is guaranteed to be longer than a chemically activated option, and the custom control is far greater than a lighter fluid-filled hand warmer.Do you plan on hitting the slopes? One of the most common reasons to purchase hand warmers is to keep your fingers from freezing while on the mountains. Though there are some amazing regular ski and winter gloves out there (heated, featured above, and not heated), it doesnt hurt to have a little extra warmth, especially if youre outside shredding all day. Hand warmers for skiers or snowboarders usually need to fit inside the glove rather than slide inside a coat pocket; they also need to be relatively flexible or small if youre skiing with poles.Though certainly non-traditional, its worth looking for glove/hand-warmer hybrids. Heated gloves use the same lithium-ion battery technology as the rechargeable ones listed above, but the active heaters are fit to the glove, so you can maintain grip and flexibility without maneuvering around a large chunk of plastic and metal. Plus, you wont have to worry about the snow because these gloves are designed with an outer waterproof shell, which protects the batteries from any liquid damage. Our second favorite option for skiing is the disposable hand warmer from brands like HotHands or Little Hotties. Well dive deeper into disposable hand warmers when we talk about our favorite budget pick, but these are a good option to keep in the back of your brain when thinking about ski-appropriate heating options. And when youre done skiing, you can slip into a pair of heated slippers, or shoes with heated insoles, for warmth and comfort in the lodge. Do you need something classic for hunting? While muffs arent going to help much if your hands need to be out and at the ready, theyre a traditional way to stay cozy in a blind or tree stand. Muffs are, of course, reusable and can be adjusted to fit your frame. Theyre made from many materials, including fur, shearling, or synthetic fabric. The outer layer will often be water-resistant and windproof, so you wont need to worry about inclement weather. Some muffs even have special internal pockets for extra hand warmers to slide in, and others come with external pockets or shell pockets, so not only will your hands stay warm, but youll also get some additional storage space. A muffs durability and reliability make it a great choice for hunters everywhere. We recommend bringing this and maybe one or two disposable hand warmers along with you, just in case you need even more warmth on those brisk early mornings.Best budget hand warmers: What you get for under $20Luckily, hand warmers dont tend to be prohibitively expensive, unless youre looking for high-end gloves or a really large rechargeable battery. That being said, reusable options will be more expensive than disposable ones, though disposable ones may be less cost-effective over time, depending on how you use them. If you want a more budget-friendly reusable hand warmer, the first thing to look for is brand reputation and clear safety guidelines; this is especially true if you go for something chemically activated or lighter-fluid-based. Disposable hand warmers are likely to be the cheapest option and work great for almost any outdoor activity; Theyre thin and flexible, and they slide easily into gloves or pockets.FAQsQ: Can hand warmers expire? Technically, yes. The expiration for each product is brand-specific. For example, the HotHands warmers we listed above have a shelf life of three to four years. Rechargeable hand warmers usually have a life span that includes a certain amount of charges (typically 300). Low-tech chemically activated chargers also tend to have an expiration date; HotSnapZ usually become defective after 200 to 300 snaps. Check out each products specs for more information on lifespan. Q: How do disposable hand warmers work? Like reusable hand warmers, disposable hand warmers rely on chemical activation instead of lighter fluid or lithium batteries. Each pouch typically includes salt, iron powder, activated carbon, and a little water. When the pouch is taken out of its airtight seal and exposed to oxygen, the iron powder causes an exothermic reaction, generating heat. The carbon helps evenly disperse the heat, and an absorbent material like wood or a polymer helps retain it throughout the day. Q: Do I need to order a separate pouch for hand warmers? Generally speaking, you do not need to purchase a separate hand warmer pouch. Refillable hand warmers will definitely need to be placed in a pouch to avoid burns, but the model you buy should come with one. Of course, if you end up losing it, definitely place an order for another. Other hand warmers, including rechargeable, chemically activated, and disposable styles, are safe on the skin once they reach the appropriate temperature. If you want an extra barrier because its just a little too hot in the mitten, you can place them in bags or wrap them in a thin cloth. We recommend using sunglasses bags or thin socks. Q: Can you take hand warmers on a plane? Handwarmers using carbon, charcoal, and iron compounds are allowed in carry-on and checked baggage. Handwarmers that use hazardous or flammable liquids are not allowed. Check TSA and FAA guidelines for more details. Final thoughts on the best hand warmersBest overall: HotSnapZ Reusable Hand WarmersBest reusable long-lasting warmers: Zippo Hand WarmerBest rechargeable: OCOOPA Rechargeable Hand WarmerBest for skiing: Snow Deer Heated GlovesBest for hunting: Hunter Safety System Heated MuffBest budget: HotHands WarmersThe best hand warmers for you fit your lifestyle and needs. If youre active in short bursts, a reusable, chemically activated option might be right for you. If youre going on longer camping trips with no electricity in sight, grab a refillable, lighter-fuel-based model. If youre constantly going numb in the fingertips and need something reliable and reusable, reach for the rechargeable one. And if you just need something to get you out and about or on the slopes with all-day protection from the cold, consider a disposable model. No matter what, stay bundled out there.
