  • Black Ops 6 And Warzone Season 2 Update Goes Live With All Of These Known Issues
    www.gamespot.com
Call of Duty's big new Season 2 update for Black Ops 6 and Warzone is out now, but the rollout didn't go entirely smoothly. The Season 2 launch today, January 28, included a few issues across both games. Here is a quick rundown of some of the known issues with the Season 2 update, as shared by Activision via the Call of Duty Updates account:The previously announced changes to buy station locations in Warzone on Urzikstan did not go live with the update--Activision is fixing this "in the coming days."Players are reporting slower speeds than intended when using ziplines; Activision is investigating. The game would crash if players edited a loadout while queuing for a match--this has been fixed already. In Zombies, Activision is investigating an issue that causes the game to crash when players use a Shock Charge during the Wonder Weapon Quest in the new map, The Tomb. Also in Zombies, Activision is looking into a spike in crash reports for players with AMD GPUs.For more, be sure to look at Activision's public Trello board that runs through all of the major known issues. A major new update for Call of Duty launching with some issues is pretty standard stuff.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • A Beginner's Guide to Becoming a Person Who Runs
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.Ever wish you were a runner? Whether you want to follow in our own Meredith Dietz's footsteps and run a marathon, or just want to get a little VO2max boost with something like a Norwegian 4x4 workout, you have to get comfortable with running. You probably have some questions about how, exactly, you become a runner, beyond putting on shoes and going outside. Fortunately, we have answers. Here are the most important things to master in your first few weeks.Set some beginner-level goals"Be a runner" is a really vague goal, so think about what that means to you. Do you envision yourself as somebody who goes for a jog every morning? Then you'll want to work toward increasing the frequency of your running. Or do you have a goal of eventually training for a marathon? Then you'll want to prioritize increasing the length of your runs. Or maybe you want to run faster, which means you'll want to practice more speedwork. (It does not mean running every run as fast as possible.) These goals have a lot of overlap, but they still give you a direction you can follow. If you want to run every morning, make it a goal to get out for a walk or short run every day, even if it's not very long or very fast right now. If your goals are about length or speed, start building a base by working toward a 30-minute run three times a week. (And read my guide to setting fitness goals, which includes some examples for runners.)Dont overthink itBefore you start, its important to know that none of your early decisions will make or break you as a runner. Even if the worst happenslet's say you pick the wrong shoes and your feet hurtyou can try again with the benefit of hindsight. You dont even need to track your miles or follow a specific program, especially at first. While couch to 5K works for a lot of people, its also challenging enough that some folks find it discouraging. You may absolutely just go out and run until you feel like you need a break and then walk until you feel like running again and repeat until you feel like stopping. The more you run, the easier it gets. Over time, slowly build up to a consistent schedule. Dont think How hard can I work today? but rather, How can I use this week to set myself up for success next week?Choose your shoesYou dont need to shop for shoes before you start running. Any old sneakers can carry you a few miles, as long as theyre reasonably comfortable. Its OK to plan a short looprunning around the block, for exampleso you can bail if your shoes turn out to be uncomfortable. As you get into the habit of running, youll want to buy a pair of shoes that you dont use for anything else. While there are lots of different types of running shoes at many price points, and just as many opinions on who should wear what, the bottom line is this: whatever feels good when you run is the right shoe to wear.To maximize your chances of finding the perfect shoes, go to a store that specializes in runningnot athletics in general, but running. Fleet Feet is one chain, and there are plenty of independent running stores, too. The best thing about running stores is that most will accept returns, even if youve run a few miles and decided the shoes you bought arent right for you. There are also online shops that will let you return shoes that you've run in, so go with one of those. Brooks, Hoka, and Nike are just a few on the list.Too hard to pick? You can't go far wrong with one of these. Think of it as me flipping a coin and picking for you: Brooks Glycerin 20: Men's, women'sAsics Gel-venture 8: Men's, women'sNike Pegasus 39: Men's, women'sOr if you want to literally follow in my footsteps, I've been on a Nike Downshifter kick lately. Our resident marathoner Meredith swears by the Brooks Ghost.Make a planYou don't need a detailed program to get started, but I know you probably have questions about what a running routine should look like. Here are the answers, as they apply to beginners. (Feel free to add more mileage once you feel comfortable with the basics.)How long should I run? A good beginner run or run/walk is 20 to 30 minutes. If you can't run that long, can you walk that long? Start sprinkling in some short jogs during your walk. How often should I run? Three times a week is good to start. It will be hard to make progress on less than that, so if you can only manage once or twice a week right now, aim to eventually add at least one more day. Do I need to take rest days? If your runs make you feel sore, tired, or achy, put a rest day after each one. (You can do other exercise on those "rest" days, just not running.) Once your body adapts to the new routine, it's fine to run on back-to-back days. Once you're in the groove, it's OK to run every day as long as you do are a mix of easy and hard runs. The easy runs are your "rest" from the hard ones. What if I can only run a few minutes? Don't worry, any mix of running and walking still counts as a "run." When it comes to beginner programs, couch to 5K has helped a lot of people get into the habit. It mixes walking and running, with a goal of getting you in shape to run five kilometers (about three miles) within nine weeks. That said, it isn't the perfect beginner program for everybody, and you don't have to start with this type of program if it's not speaking to you. You can just go out and run. Pick out your clothesAs with shoes, your best beginners gear is whatever you already have. Grab comfortable workout clothessay, shorts and a tank top if the weather is warm. On a cool day, you might want leggings or sweatpants along with a long-sleeved t-shirt. In the rain, add a baseball cap. In general, youll want to dress on the cooler side so youll be comfortable once your body heats up. We also have a temperature-by-temperature guide to winter running. When youre ready to buy clothes specifically for running, make sure you have at least two outfits (so you dont have to do laundry every time you run) and aim for comfortable clothes. Synthetic fabrics (or washable wool) are great at wicking sweat, but cotton clothes will work in a pinch. The advantage of the synthetics is that they won't get soggy, but please remember to rinse them out after your workout to prevent the dreaded gym bag stink. You can pay a ton for high quality workout gear, but there are great bargains to be had at discount stores. And if youve grabbed something from the back of your closet that seems to be working just fine, theres no need to replace it if it keeps you happy. Dont overcomplicate your clothes, despite what athletic gear marketing may tell you that you need.If your anatomy requires a sports bra, be aware that this can be a tricky thing to shop for. The same bra that works fine for yoga or cycling may not be up to the task. In general, look for a wide band and wide straps, full coverage cups, and a snug fit. If you're having trouble finding what you need in stores, try Panache or Shefit. Plan your routeIn theory, you can run anywhere. In the real world, though, not everyone has a perfect running route just outside their door. Strava's mapping tools are a great way to find or create a great running route, so start there if you're unsure of the best places to run in your area. You can also get a workout without roaming. Schools often have a running track that is open to the public at least some of the time; its perfect for intervals and other speedwork. And if you have access to a gym, dont forget the treadmill. It can get boring, but mental tricks like quarter-mile checkpoints can help to keep your attention until you finish your run. Treadmills are great in bad weather, too, and parents take note: its a lot easier to drop your kids off at the gyms babysitting room than to find a way to drag them with you on an outdoor route. You don't need a watchYou may want a smartwatch to track your runs and other workouts, but you don't need one to actually get started. Phone apps can track your distance well enough to do the job, but runners were doing their thing for centuries before phones or watches were invented. Put in the time, and your body will recognize the progress, whether or not you have an app giving you specific numbers on it. That said, if you want to use a watch, I won't stop you. All the major smartwatches have some kind of running mode, and we have a rundown of some of the better running watches here. It's hard to beat the Garmin Forerunner 265, in my opinion. Garmin Forerunner 265 Running Smartwatch, Colorful AMOLED Display, Training Metrics and Recovery Insights, Black and Powder Gray $430.00 at Amazon Shop Now Shop Now $430.00 at Amazon Make it a habitYour first few runs should be focused on just surviving with a smile. Once you start to build a habit, though, it helps to set some clear goals for yourself, and make a long-term plan that will help you get there. As you progress on your running journey, youll want to practice running fast, learn the importance of running slow, and consider when you might be ready to run your first race. These milestones will come in time, so dont rush them, but theyre all great challenges.Making sure you stay safe is also important. Your legs take thousands of steps even on a short run, and all that repetition adds up. Runners are prone to overuse injuries if we run too much before our bodies are ready for it. The rule of thumb is to increase your weekly mileage by no more than 10 percent at a time. For example, going from 10 miles last week to 11 miles this week is fine, but 10 to 20 is asking for trouble. In truth, you dont have to be super strict about the exact percentage, but make sure that you work your way up little by little.

  • All the Ways to File Your Taxes for Free in 2025
    lifehacker.com
Tax season is now open, and the last thing you want to do is pay money to, well, prepare your return and pay your taxes by April 15. Thankfully, more taxpayers are eligible to file their taxes for free this year thanks to the expansion of the IRS' new Direct File program alongside its long-standing (but income-capped) Free File partnerships. Here are all the ways to file your taxes for free in 2025. IRS Free FileIRS Free File is one of several free filing options provided by the IRS. With Free File, you complete your tax return using guided software via a partner site, which then e-files it with the IRS. Most commonly used federal tax forms and schedules are available through Free File. However, your adjusted gross income must have been $84,000 or less in 2024 to be eligible for this option. If you do qualify for Free File, go directly through the IRS websiteyou'll see a list of trusted third-party preparers with their eligibility criteria, or you can use the guided tool to find the best option for your situation. Note that some IRS partners will also file your state return for free, while others charge an additional fee. IRS Direct FileThe IRS piloted a new free tax filing option last year, and that program is now more widely available for completing your 2024 return. Direct File is a guided software program offered by the IRS (rather than through a third-party preparer), and unlike Free File, it does not have any income limits. However, to use Direct File this tax season, you must have lived and worked in one of the following 25 states for all of 2024: AlaskaArizonaCaliforniaConnecticutFloridaIdahoIllinoisKansasMaineMarylandMassachusettsNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaOregonPennsylvaniaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasWashington stateWisconsinWyomingIf your state is listed, be sure to check the specific residency and filing requirements. Direct File has a few other limitations: It only accepts a handful of income, credit, and deduction types, so if you report business or rental income, itemize your deductions, or have a more complex tax situation, you won't be able to use the program. Direct File also does not include state filingit will prompt you to a different tax prep tool once you complete your federal return. You can get started with Direct File on the IRS website by logging in with your ID.me account (or creating one if you don't have one already). This year, the IRS will also import your tax information to autofill your W-2 and other forms. Other ways to file your taxes for freeIf you make too much for IRS Free File and live in one of the 25 states not covered by Direct File, you may still be able to file your taxes for free. Free Fillable Forms: This option is just like it sounds. You enter your information into the IRS' fillable forms using the provided instructions and file the return yourself. There are no income limits for Free Fillable Forms, but it does have limited guidance, and state returns are not included. You will still need to create a Free File account. Commercial tax software: If your taxes are relatively simple, you can go through tax preparation companies like TurboTax and H&R Block without paying any fees. Cash App Taxes is another free option. Note that these companies also have paid services, so make sure you understand what you are signing up for. Volunteer tax prep help: The IRS offers free tax prep support for eligible taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. Taxpayers who make less than $67,000 per year, who have disabilities, or who have limited English proficiency qualify for VITA, while TCE supports those who are age 60 and older. Enter your zip code into the locator tool to find volunteer tax prep options in your area. MilTax: MilTax offers free tax preparation and filing for eligible military members, including up to three state returns.

  • OpenAI debuts a version of ChatGPT for US government agencies
    www.engadget.com
OpenAI has begun offering a version of ChatGPT designed for US government agencies. ChatGPT Gov includes many of the same features found in the Enterprise offering of the chatbot, including access to the companys GPT-4o model. By making our products available to the US government, we aim to ensure AI serves the national interest and the public good, aligned with democratic values, while empowering policymakers to responsibly integrate these capabilities to deliver better services to the American people, OpenAI said in a blog post published Tuesday. Before today, US government employees were already using ChatGPT in their day-to-day work. According to the company, federal, state and local government workers at 3,500 agencies across the country have sent more than 18 million messages since 2024. With todays announcement, those same agencies can now self-host ChatGPT within their own Microsoft Azure commercial or government cloud environment. In practice, that should make it easier for government IT heads to ensure the tool is used safely.OpenAIs move to offer ChatGPT Gov comes after the company announced it was partnering with SoftBank to build $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure within the United States over the next four years. Many immediately questioned whether OpenAI had the money to fund Stargate to the level it said it would. After the announcement, The Information reported that SoftBank and OpenAI would each commit about $19 billion to the project to start, far less than the $100 billion the two had said they would deploy immediately.More broadly, the arrival of ChatGPT Gov comes amid uncertainty about the strength of the American AI industry. On Monday, US tech stocks dropped dramatically after DeepSeek, an AI assistant from a Chinese startup, unseated ChatGPT as the top free app in the App Store over the weekend. DeepSeek purportedly spent less than $6 million to develop its R1 model. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/ai/openai-debuts-a-version-of-chatgpt-for-us-government-agencies-162809443.html?src=rss

  • Incention is a desperate attempt to make new Hollywood IP with AI, fans and the blockchain
    www.engadget.com
You'll only need to remember the name Incention for the brief moment you're reading this post, because you'll likely never have to think about it again. As Variety reports, it's a new platform for building new Hollywood IP using the combined power of AI tools, fan contributions and the blockchain. Incention describes itself as "a new blueprint for building modern franchises, where IP holders, communities, and agents collaborate seamlessly in an endless playground rooted in real IP." Because, of course, the real problem plaguing Hollywood today is the inability to build franchises with user-generated content, unproven AI tools and blockchain hype.Incention's first franchise the modern Hollywood term for "story" is Emergence, a sci-fi premise from Blade and The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer. It centers on a universe where a white hole appears (my god, the opposite of a black hole!) and spews out mysterious high tech objects. Goyer describes it as a "creative sandbox" for artists and fans to build "limitless narratives" across multiple genres and mediums. (The name is also confounding. It sounds far too similar to Christopher Nolan's Inception, a movie that Goyer had no hand in. And what does it even mean? Incentive prevention?)Atlas, an AI agent that's meant to be a "creative partner," serves as Incention's main AI tool for developing content. It'll be able to come up with ideas, help story direction and even generate full videos, according to the company. Incention also claims that Atlas can post autonomously to social media platforms to improve itself, perhaps because social media engagement for real franchises is too dangerous for humans these days.Incention is powered by the Story blockchain, which will help to track the content produced by fans and creators across all of its franchises. Again, a major problem that needed to be solved. The NFT grift is over, and we've yet to see any product outside of Bitcoin and other digital currencies tapping into the blockchain effectively.A couple of years ago, I realized that its [AI] not going away, its going to completely embed itself within society," Goyer told Variety. "So I tried to learn as much about it as I could, whether it be ChatGPT or Midjourney or the various other tools, and I think those have useful applications that dont necessarily put people out of a job although there are a lot of potential AI applications that could. But in this instance, were not putting anyone out of a job. If anything, this is a tool to allow people that normally wouldnt have an entry point into Hollywood or publishing houses or things like that."The big problem Incention faces, though, is that it's not actually fixing anything in Hollywood. Similar to the short-lived Quibi, the entire impetus behind Incention is driven by technology, instead of genuine demands from creators or a franchise-hungry public. And unlike Quibi, Incention isn't launching with nearly $2 billion in funding (though it has raised an undisclosed amount from the a16z crypto fund) or the Hollywood bonafides of someone like DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg.Incention also seems to fundamentally misunderstand how fan-produced content works. People aren't spending hours on their fanfic, fanart and cosplay simply because they want to get paid. They're doing it because someone created a story and characters that genuinely moved them. Good luck getting the same sort of support from a generic-sounding franchise like Emergence."The entertainment industry stands at a crossroads," Incention wrote in a "manifesto" of its vision. "As AI generates an endless stream of content, traditional entertainment grapples with an existential crisis: How do we preserve human creativity while harnessing the power of modern technology? The answer is not in resistance, but in collaboration and shared upside."I give it a month. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/incention-is-a-desperate-attempt-to-make-new-hollywood-ip-with-ai-fans-and-the-blockchain-162024019.html?src=rss
