• Four Years After Microsoft Acquisition, Esports Site Start.gg Goes Independent With Some Changes
    www.gamespot.com
Just over four years ago, Microsoft purchased the esports tournament organizing platform Start.gg, which was then known as Smash.gg before its rebranding. Now, Start.gg has announced that Microsoft no longer owns the site and stated that it will "be returning to its roots as an independent company supporting grassroots and professional esports communities."Chris Ogle--the co-founder of Smash.gg--shared the news on Medium and thanked Microsoft and Xbox for their support. He also noted that the site will continue with members from the original Smash.gg team alongside "grassroots tournament organizers, and engineers who are passionate about improving the platform for the communities we support."One of the biggest changes going forward is that starting on February 14, Start.gg will be charging a registration fee to support the expenses of running the site. In addition to making that change for the sustainability of the business, Start.gg will be upgrading its user interface and tournament support.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • These are the Super Bowl home theater upgrades Id make this year
    www.polygon.com
The Super Bowl is happening Sunday, Feb. 9. Its a spectacle worthy of a couple home entertainment upgrades, if you ask me. All of the big-budget commercial spots, the halftime show led by Kendrick Lamar, and, oh yeah, the football would all benefit from displaying on a sweet, new 4K TV. And, since most TVs cant pump out great-sounding audio from their tiny speakers, its time to get a new soundbar while youre at it.Around the NFLs biggest game of the year is when many tech companies offer price cuts, but some are better than others both in terms of the hardware itself and the deals. If youve been snooping around for deals and are thinking of buying something, let me show you some of the best discounts Ive found.Best Super Bowl 4K TV dealsBest Super Bowl soundbar deals

  • How to dive and swim underwater in Hello Kitty Island Adventure
    www.polygon.com
The Snorkel and Flippers are two items you need to dive and swim underwater in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.Getting the Snorkel and Flippers are a vital part of any playthrough in Hello Kitty Island Adventure since you need them to explore the underwater world of Rainbow Reef and meet Hangyodon. There is a lot hidden under the surface as well, like items and chests. This guide will explain how to get the Snorkel and Flippers to unlock swimming and diving in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. How to unlock the Flippers in Hello Kitty Island Adventure You can get the Flippers in Hello Kitty Island Adventure right after you complete the Power Up the Gate quest. Once you open the gate and unlock the rest of the island, go find Keroppi in the Swamp region. (He should be walking on the path in Lilypad Lagoon.) Give him his Welcome Gift and it will unlock the Finding Flippers quest. Keroppi will give you the fins item and the Plan to create the Flippers. You can now craft a pair of Flippers. The ingredients to the Flippers are one fins and one strap. If you need a strap, you can find them in the chests scattered throughout the Spooky Swamp region. Use the crafting table at Chococats camp to craft a pair of Flippers. Once you craft a pair, you can now swim on the surface of the water. How to unlock the Snorkel in Hello Kitty Island Adventure The Snorkel allows you to dive underwater and explore. This item comes later in the game, but getting it is still pretty straightforward. You just need to know how to unlock the Deep Diving quest. Here is how to get the quest: You unlock the Deep Diving quest once you reach Friendship Level 6 with Kuromi. To level up that particular relationship, we gifted her Jack-O-Laterns. You can craft Jack-O-Laterns with five pumpkins and each one is rated as having two hearts with Kuromi. Once you reach Level 6 Friendship with Kuromi, the game will start the Deep Diving quest. Here is how to complete it: After you start the quest, Kuromi will move from her usual spot near the Spooky Swamp mailbox waypoint to the docks near the Witchs Hut. Go and talk to her. She will tell you she lost her Locket under the water. She will lend you a pair of Flippers. Use your new Snorkel to dive under the water and collect the Locket. Bring her the Locket. She wont let you keep the Snorkel but shell give you a Plan to craft your own. Go and craft the Snorkel at the crafting table in Chococats camp. To craft the Snorkel, you need: ten rubber, two spark, and 2 ingots. If you need more ingots, you can craft more. You just need to get the Plans to make them. The Ingot Plans are located near the Gemstone Mountain Gemstone Town mailbox waypoint. We were able to travel there on foot with one Stamina Apple upgrade. We included an image of its location below for your reference. Once you gather the materials, craft the Snorkel. You are now able to swim underwater. How to swim underwater in Hello Kitty Island Adventure Once you have the snorkel, to swim underwater, all you need to do is jump into any body of water thats not a shallow pool. Once youre there, a set of icons will pop up on the right-hand side of the screen that show the controls for how to dive.We used a controller to play. The right control stick allows you to navigate the elevation or depth of your character, while the left control stick allows you to move it from side to side. (For PC players, the Ctrl and Shift buttons move the character up and down and you can use the arrowpad to move side to side.) Once you dive down, youll have a limited amount of time to explore before you have to return for air. The amount of time you can stay underwater is controlled by your stamina bar. Once it depletes, your character will return to the surface of the water. It restricts how deep you can dive but it doesnt hurt your character.

  • The Best Game Day Snacks You Can Make in the Air Fryer
    lifehacker.com
I enjoy Super Bowl Sunday. Im not much of a football fan, but my friend always hosts a lovely party with plentiful snacks, and I dont have to do a thing. You see, hosting a dinner party is one thingtheres a set meal, and you can plan out the timingbut a party based on hot snacks means lots of upkeep, and frequent refreshing. You need a lineup of snacks that are delicious, easy to prep, and quick to churn out, leaving you plenty of time to yell at the TV. This sounds like a job for the air fryer. Heres a list of my favorite Air Fryday snacks fit for the big game.Cheese-stuffed biscuit ballsYou know whats better than cheesy breadsticks? These cheese-stuffed biscuit balls. Theyre made with canned biscuit dough, which makes the preparation straightforward. Pop a can of your favorite vacuum-sealed dough and wrap a biscuit's worth around a fat cube of mozzarella cheese. Throw the balls in the air fryer for a few minutes, and before serving, swipe with melted butter and a sprinkle of garlic salt.Seasoned pretzels Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Seasoned pretzels have won me over. They're crunchier than potato chips and these ranch seasoned ones are packed with flavor. While you can use the original oven method outlined in the recipe, you can do it faster in the air fryer. Just place them on the air fryer grate (it's okay if they overlap) and set the air fryer on the "bake" setting for 325F. Bake them for seven to 15 minutes (depending on the size of the pretzels and type of air fryer), tossing them around halfway through the cooking time. Meatball shots Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann I created meatball shots specifically for football watchingbecause while I don't follow the sport, I do enjoy the weekly snacks. It turns out, everyone else loves them too. Using store-bought frozen meatballs ensures a stable vehicle for the cheesy center, and Boursin cheese is the perfect pre-seasoned mixture for the job. These are sure to go quick, so make a double batch.Easy mushroom chips Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann I was stunned at how well canned mushrooms handle air frying. They turn into crunchy, bubbly, umami slices with little more than a spritz of oil. These could not be simpler to make and they're completely vegan. Enjoy them on their own, as a companion to nuts or seasoned pretzels, or use them as a crunchy topping for dip. Air fryer s'mores Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann You don't need a campfire to enjoy s'mores; an air fryer does the trick just fine. While some folks might associate these sweet treats with the great outdoors, this speedy method makes a good argument for s'mores indoors. Just load up your air fryer with graham cracker halves and their trusted fillings. In about four minutes you'll have s'mores to feed a small crowd.Air fryer kielbasa Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann A large platter of fatty sausage with crispy edges is a special type of heaven. And when your team is losing by 12 points, well, you'll need something pleasant to distract you from your rage. Air fryer kielbasa is extremely simple and highly gratifying. The trick here is scoring the daylights out of the exteriorthose shallow cuts become crispy and the air fryer ensures you can get more ready in case there's a half-time emergency. Devils on Horseback Credit: Claire Lower These bite-sized nibbles offer an enticing balance of sweet and salty, crunchy and chewy. All you need is fruit, cheese, and pork to wrap around them. Pitted dates make an excellent fruit pocket for stuffing with cheese, and a half slice of bacon or prosciutto makes for a great pork blanket. Follow the directions here.American-cheese crispsTalk about zero prep time: American cheese singles are already ready for your air fryer. While classic cheese frico is a crispy, lacy snack made from a hard cheese like parmesan, American cheese crisps are something altogether new. Simply lay a few floppy singles on the floor of your air fryer and witness their transformation to crunchy, cavernous puffs. Pile them into a bowl and watch them disappear.Air fryer pierogi Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann At this point there should be no doubt that meats do very well in the air fryer, but what about carbs? Lucky for us, they have a place in the basket as well. Pierogi are a great example. To make a crispy, fluffy batch of pierogi, start with a box or bag from the freezer section of your grocery store. Follow the directions in my recipe here for the simple method. Caramel pasta chips Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann If you're looking for a sweet, crunchy snack to round out your Game Day spread, try these irresistible caramel pasta chips. You can use any shape of pasta you have on hand (the weirder the better, in my opinion). Start by boiling the pasta, draining it and tossing the wet noodles with cinnamon and sugar. The air fryer will quickly evaporate the water in the pasta, leaving behind a light and flaky shell coated in caramel. A big bowl of these snackable pasta chips will be an instant hit. Shishito pepper poppersJalapeo poppers are mildly spicy, but for a stuffed-pepper snack that keeps you guessing, try this recipe for shishito pepper poppers instead. Shishitos are long green peppers with a thinner fleshy wall than jalapeos, which allows them to soften a bit faster in the air fryer. Pair that with the knowledge that youll never know which one are mild and which are a pocket of spicy hellfire and youve got yourself a snack your guests wont forget.Phyllo wrapped veggies Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann If youre looking for a way to incorporate more veggies onto your roster, heres an incredible air fryer option: phyllo dough wrapped veggie sticks. You can use any vegetable you have available in the fridge, like carrot sticks, whole scallions, bell peppers, or asparagus. Lightly buttered phyllo dough creates crisp, flaky layers around each vegetable. Click here for the full recipe.Mac and cheese bitesThis is the only suggested air fryer snack on this list that requires cold leftovers, but its so insanely good I think its worth making a batch of mac and cheese the day before. Once the mac and cheese is cold, slice it into sticks or squares and toss into the air fryer as-is, no breading required. The existing cheese and oils from the sauce will fry and crisp to form a crunchy frico cheese exterior with a soft pasta interior. Click here for the full recipe.Air fryer crunchy chickpeas Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Its nice to have a variety of snacks at the table. Heres one thats easy, low commitment, and impossible to stop munching on. Crunchy chickpeas are tossed with seasonings and a secret ingredient: cornstarch. The layer of starch creates a shattering crust on each garbanzo unlike anything youve had before. And theyre ready in a snap. Check out the recipe here.Leftovers egg rollsThis snack is a lifesaver if you underprepared for your party. Keep a pack of egg roll wrappers around so you can roll up any leftovers you have hanging in your fridge. Yep. Any and all leftovers. Fill the egg roll wrapper with a slice of lasagna, baked beans and cheese, ham and pickles, or leftover potato salad. They crisp up in the air fryer like a dream. Read here for the details.Bacon-wrapped banana bitesSimilar to devils on horseback but even simpler are these bacon-wrapped banana bites. Theyre an irresistible blend of sweet, earthy, and salty. Slice ripe bananas into one-inch segments and wrap them in strips of bacon. Pop them in the air fryer until crisp.Air fryer key lime pie Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Just because its a snack party doesnt mean we have to skip dessert. This air fryer key lime pie is a nice reminder that spring is just around the corner. Use a store-bought graham cracker crusttheyre about eight inches in diameter and the aluminum tin fits in most air fryers. With only a few ingredients, this recipe comes together quicklybut dont forget to give the finished pie time in the fridge to cool.
