• Dragons Dogma 2 Hits 3.5 Million Units Sold
    gamingbolt.com
Dragons Dogma 2has clearly not enjoyed the sort of explosive sales that other Capcom megatons likeResident EvilandMonster Hunterdo routinely, but the action RPG continues to trudge along at an even pace nonetheless. As per Capcoms recently updated Platinum Titles page which lists up-to-date sales for all million-plus sellers put out by the company the game has hit a notable sales milestone. As of December 31,Dragons Dogma 2has sold 3.5 million units worldwide across all platforms, up from 3.3 million. That means the open world title sold an additional 200,000 units over the course of that quarter. That isnt blinding pace by any means, obviously, so it should be interesting to see how long the games sales can maintain this sort of momentum, especially with Capcom showing no signs of releasing sales-boosting DLC or updates of any sort (that we know of, at least).Dragons Dogma 2is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Read our review of the game through here.

  • WWE Raw runs into its first streaming problems on Netflix
    www.theverge.com
Netflix and WWE nearly made it a whole month streaming Raw without any major technical hiccups, but that streak was broken on Monday night. Throughout the February 3rd episode, some viewers were annoyed by the feed intermittently cutting out to a black screen. Audio would also drop whenever these glitches occurred. The problems never caused the live feed to drop entirely this wasnt anything like the messy Jake Paul / Mike Tyson stream but they were still a source of frustration for fans eager to see the fallout from Saturdays Royal Rumble event. Netflix feed for WWE was a mess tonight. Frequent glitching, especially at the end of the show, ruining a big moment. Hadn't had any issues the first few Netflix weeks. Not sure what happened tonight. Chris Vannini (@ChrisVannini) February 4, 2025WWE Raw debuted on Netflix in early January after spending decades as a staple of linear cable TV. The streamer has committed $5 billion over 10 years to secure WWEs flagship weekly show. Outside the US, Netflix is now home to an even bigger WWE content portfolio that includes SmackDown, NXT, and the companys monthly premium live events. So if these streams dont go smoothly, fans are certain to notice. Mondays technical issues were most obvious during the main event, which pitted CM Punk against Sami Zayn. The Netflix logo remained visible during Raws blackouts, which led to speculation that the problems were coming directly from WWEs live production feed in Cleveland. They remained present in immediate replays of the episode.@netflix fix your screen glitch wtf is this#RawOnNetflix pic.twitter.com/UOg02Vwxki Samir | WWE fan (@SamirParvez) February 4, 2025The Verge has reached out to WWE for comment on what caused the brief interruptions. Netflix raised the price of its monthly subscriptions last month, bringing its ad-supported tier up to $7.99 per month, the standard ad-free plan to $17.99, and the premium tier to $24.99 per month.

  • Shein and Temu depend on a 100-year-old tariff loophole that Trump wants to close
    www.theverge.com
President Donald Trumps sweeping tariff threats have been touch and go. As it stands currently, the 25 percent tax on goods from Mexico and Canada is on ice for a month, but a 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods is set to take effect on Tuesday, via an executive order of questionable legality. Nestled within the order is a brief but important provision that could change how Americans shop online: the closing of a little-known loophole called the de minimis exception.Under the de minimis rule, packages that are valued under $800 can enter the US duty free, and recipients in the US can get up to $800 worth of stuff per day without paying import taxes.E-commerce giants like Temu and Shein (but also countless smaller operations) have used this loophole to ship low-value packages to shoppers, who, in turn, benefit from not having to pay import taxes on their purchases. Temu, Shein, and other companies that ship directly to consumers dont have to store tons of merchandise in warehouses in the US: they can mail orders directly from manufacturers or warehouses in China, where many products are produced. The de minimis provision has been on the books for nearly 100 years, but its arguably a bigger issue now than at any point in the past century. The number of packages avoiding taxes has skyrocketed, from 139 million a year in 2015 to over 1.36 billion in 2024, according to US Customs and Border Protection. The cost limit was increased from $200 to $800 in 2016 after groups like eBay, Etsy, and package delivery companies lobbied Congress. And the growing popularity of platforms like Shein and Temu in the last few years normalized waiting a few weeks for orders to come from China in exchange for bargain bin-priced goods. The Biden administration previously proposed tightening the de minimis loophole. Trumps executive order, as written, effectively kills it making low-value shipments subject to existing tariffs plus the additional 10 percent tax. Thats not just an extra fee; its an existential threat to the business models of Shein and Temu. A T-shirt from China, for example, would be subject to Trumps new 10 percent tax, plus standard tariffs that are based on the specific product and then additional China-specific tariffs that the first Trump administration put in place.Temu and Sheins business models keep the retailers prices impossibly low and has threatened Amazons dominance in online shopping. Last November, Amazon took a page out of Temus playbook and introduced Amazon Haul, a marketplace of ultracheap home goods, gadgets, and clothing that looks and feels like Chinese e-commerce platforms. As I wrote in December, Amazon is taking advantage of this same de minimis exemption: the products on Haul are even cheaper than normal Amazon listings, and the marketplace features many products that also appear for sale on Shein, Temu, and AliExpress. If de minimis is indeed closed for packages from China, its likely that the impossibly cheap dresses, coats, handbags, and home decor Americans are hooked on will soon get more expensive. Tariffs are a tax on the person or entity importing the goods, not on the exporter. Research has shown that getting rid of the de minimis loophole would both cost the government billions of dollars more in enforcement and disproportionately raise costs for poorer Americans. Its not just big corporations that would be affected. Dropshippers who fulfill orders directly from abroad would be affected, as would small businesses importing components, parts, or supplies in batches under $800. Small orders from platforms like Etsy or eBay coming from China could cost consumers more, too. Temu, Shein, and Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Trump has justified imposing tariffs and ending the de minimis loophole by pointing to the synthetic opioid supply chain, claiming that de minimis packages receive less scrutiny and can be used for shipping drug ingredients. A Reuters investigation last year outlined how de minimis packages could be used to traffic drugs but its not clear that low-value parcels pose a greater threat than larger shipments. The prices on platforms like Shein and Temu feel unbelievably cheap because, in a way, they are. These goods depend on a technicality that both sides of the political aisle appear motivated to stamp out, and on Tuesday, they might succeed.See More:

  • Neural SpaceTimes (NSTs): A Class of Trainable Deep Learning-based Geometries that can Universally Represent Nodes in Weighted Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) as Events in a Spacetime Manifold
    www.marktechpost.com
Directed graphs are crucial in modeling complex real-world systems, from gene regulatory networks and flow networks to stochastic processes and graph metanetworks. Representing these directed graphs presents significant challenges, particularly in causal reasoning applications where understanding cause-and-effect relationships is paramount. Current methodologies face a fundamental limitation in balancing directional and distance information within the representation space. They often sacrifice the ability to effectively encode distance information, leading to incomplete or inaccurate representations of the underlying graph structures. This trade-off limits the effectiveness of directed graph embeddings in applications requiring causal understanding and spatial relationships.Various approaches have been developed to address the challenge of embedding graphs in continuous spaces, focusing on adapting to different graph structures through non-Euclidean geometries. Hyperbolic embeddings have been utilized for tree-like graphs, while spherical and toroidal embeddings serve graphs with cycles. Product Riemannian geometries and combinations of constant curvature Riemannian manifolds have been employed to handle graphs with multiple characteristics. Despite these advances, the fundamental challenge of simultaneously representing causal relationships and spatial structures remains. Current solutions either prioritize one aspect over the other or use complex geometric combinations. In this paper, Neural SpaceTimes (NSTs) have been proposed by Anonymous authors, an innovative approach to represent weighted Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) in spacetime manifolds. This novel methodology addresses the dual challenge of encoding spatial and temporal dimensions through a unique product manifold architecture. The framework combines a quasi-metric structure for spatial relationships with a partial order system for temporal dimensions, enabling a comprehensive representation of edge weights and directionality. It offers a significant advancement by providing a universal embedding theorem that guarantees any k-point DAG can be embedded with minimal distortion while maintaining its causal structure intact. The NST architecture is implemented through three specialized neural networks working in concert. The first network serves as an embedding network that optimizes node positions within the spacetime manifold. The second network implements a neural quasi-metric for spatial relationships, while the third network handles temporal aspects through a neural partial order system. A key architectural feature is using multiple time dimensions to model anti-chains in the graph structure effectively. The framework operates by optimization of one-hop neighborhoods for each node, while inherently maintaining transitive causal connectivity across multiple hops through the partial order definition. This implementation bridges theoretical guarantees with practical computation through gradient descent optimization.Experimental evaluations demonstrate NSTs superior performance across both synthetic and real-world datasets. In synthetic weighted DAG embedding tests, NSTs consistently achieve perfect edge directionality preservation while maintaining lower metric distortion when compared with traditional approaches like Minkowski and De Sitter spaces. The framework shows strong performance in low-dimensional embedding spaces, with distortion decreasing as embedding dimensions increase. In real-world network tests using the WebKB datasets (Cornell, Texas, and Wisconsin), NSTs effectively encode both hyperlink directionality and connectivity strength between webpages, achieving low distortions despite the complexity of the network structures. In conclusion, this paper introduces Neural SpaceTimes (NSTs) which represents a significant advancement in DAG representation learning through its innovative use of multiple time dimensions and neural network-based geometry construction. The framework successfully decouples spatial and temporal aspects using a product manifold approach and combining quasi-metrics for space and partial orders for time relationships. However, current implementation is restricted to DAGs rather than general digraphs, and optimization becomes challenging with larger graphs due to computational constraints in calculating shortest-path distances and global causal structures. Despite these limitations, NSTs offer promising directions for future research in graph embedding and causal representation learning.Check outthePaper. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. • Google Patches 47 Android Security Flaws, Including Actively Exploited CVE-2024-53104
    thehackernews.com
Feb 04, 2025Ravie LakshmananVulnerability / Mobile SecurityGoogle has shipped patches to address 47 security flaws in its Android operating system, including one it said has come under active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2024-53104 (CVSS score: 7.8), which has been described as a case of privilege escalation in a kernel component known as the USB Video Class (UVC) driver.Successful exploitation of the flaw could lead to physical escalation of privilege, Google said, noting that it's aware that it may be under "limited, targeted exploitation."While no other technical details have been offered, Linux kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman revealed in early December 2024 that the vulnerability is rooted in the Linux kernel and that it was introduced in version 2.6.26, which was released in mid-2008.Specifically, it has to do with an out-of-bounds write condition that could arise as a result of parsing frames of type UVC_VS_UNDEFINED in a function named "uvc_parse_format()" in the "uvc_driver.c" program. This also means that the flaw could be weaponized to result in memory corruption, program crash, or arbitrary code execution. Also patched as part of Google's monthly security updates is a critical flaw in Qualcomm's WLAN component (CVE-2024-45569, CVSS score: 9.8) that could also lead to memory corruption. It's worth noting that Google has released two security patch levels, 2025-02-01 and 2025-02-05, so as to give flexibility to Android partners to address a portion of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices more quickly."Android partners are encouraged to fix all issues in this bulletin and use the latest security patch level," Google said.Found this article interesting?
