  • Civilization 7 - How To Get Relics Using Your Missionaries
    www.gamespot.com
The Exploration Age in Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is filled with exciting new opportunities. As your opponents gain a solid footing for their expansion, you could opt to send out your religious units to complete objectives. Here's our guide on how to use missionaries to get relics in Civilization 7.How to get holy relics in Civilization 7 - Missionaries and relics guideThe holy relics in Civilization 7 are directly related to Tokshakhana, the Cultural Legacy path/milestone for the Exploration Age. The whole process tends to be fairly involved, since you need to acquire these special items and then display them in your settlements to aid in your progression. Cultural Legacy: Tokshakhana mechanicsThe Cultural Legacy path during the Exploration Age has a keen focus on religion. You're not just spreading your theological beliefs far and wide; you also need to make sure that these beliefs net you holy relics along the way. You can see the requirements below if you wish to complete these milestones:Step 1:Study the Piety civic.Build a Temple.Establish your own religion.Step 2:Train a missionary or a related civ-specific unit that replaces it.Convert any foreign settlement to your religion.Step 3:Study the Theology civic.Adopt an Enhancer Belief.Step 4: Collect and display six relics.Step 5: Collect and display nine relics.Step 6: Collect and display 12 relics. Relics from your Reliquary BeliefWhen it comes to obtaining relics in Civilization 7, the most important factor is the Reliquary Belief that you choose once you establish your religion. We discuss more details in our religion/pantheon guide so, for this article, we'll just focus on the ideal Reliquary Beliefs for your campaign run.The best Reliquary Belief, by far, is Icons. That's because it provides +2 relics whenever you convert any city-state for the first time. In fact, if you're unable to get Icons in your game, you might as well pick a different Legacy Path because this option makes the whole endeavor a breeze.Still, if you want to continue with your run even without the Icons belief, you could go with:Evangelism: +1 relic for first-time conversion of another civ's settlement in distant lands; cannot be a city-state.Reliquaries: +1 relic for first-time conversion of another civ's settlement with a Temple or Altar.Lay Followers: +1 relic for first-time conversion of another civ's settlement with 10 rural population.Ecclesiasticism: +1 relic for first-time conversion of another civ's settlement with 10 urban population. As you can see, everything else is situational, and Icons really is the only top-tier choice. In any case, regardless of your chosen Reliquary Belief, you still need to convert settlements. Gaining relics as you spread your religionNow, it's time to spread your religion far and wide. You should be able to train/purchase Missionary-type units in any settlement that has a Temple. Once you have this unit, simply move it to another civ's settlement or a city-state. Then, click on the "Spread Religion" button to convert that settlement to your religion. You should receive a relic depending on the applicable Reliquary Belief that you chose earlier. Other sources of relicsThere are also other ways to get relics in Civilization 7:Goody huts - The goodie huts and similar features you discover might contain a relic.Narrative events - Certain narrative event decisions may reward you with a relic.Civics - Several civics in the game also grant more relics. Here are some examples:Society IISocial Class IISovereignty IIImperialism II How to display your relicsLast but not least, you still need to display your relics so they count toward your Cultural Legacy tally. Certain buildings in your lands have slots that allow you to place relics therein:PalaceTempleWonder: House of WisdomWonder: Hale o KeaweThat does it for our guide on how to get relics in Civilization 7. If you're keen on learning more about Exploration Age mechanics, you can head over to our religion/pantheon guide. Then, later in the Modern Age, you have to acquire ancient artifacts.Explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate your way to victory with the help of our Sid Meier's Civilization 7 guides hub.

  • Civilization 7 - How To Earn More Leader XP And Foundation XP
    www.gamespot.com
Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is quite unlike its predecessors. In previous games, you mostly chose a nation with its own leader. Now, you select historical figures and countries separately. Moreover, there's a progression system that rewards you the more you play. Here's our guide on how to get more foundation XP and leader XP in Civilization 7.How to get more foundation XP and leader XP in Civilization 7Civilization 7's progression system is account-based. As you continue to play in matches, you earn experience points that unlock cool rewards. These include badges and icons for your profile/banner, as well as Mementos. The Mementos you acquire are actually fairly important, since they grant unique bonuses, such as additional leader attribute points. What are the differences between foundation level and leader level?Foundation XP in Civilization 7, also known as the Foundation Path, is akin to your account's overall level. Think of it as a way to track your progress not just in a single match, but throughout the game's lifespan as you continue to play.Leader XP, as the term implies, is tied to a specific historical figure that you choose at the start of each match. Basically, it's like earning rewards as you level up and "main" a particular character.Challenges that grant XP can be found in your profile page (i.e. your badge icon at the top-right corner on the main menu). Click your badge, then go to the Challenges tab to see the Foundation and Leader categories. What affects Foundation XP?There are a plethora of tasks that affect the Civilization 7 Foundation XP that you earn. Here are some examples:Tutorials - There are 16 tasks here to help you learn more about the game's mechanics. These include becoming a city-state suzerain, "packing" several units into a commander, upgrading towns into cities, and more.Wonders - These require you to build a Wonder for a matching civ/country. Examples include constructing the Pyramids as Egypt or building the Great Stele as Aksum.Civ Victories - Each civ has facets that it excels in. The goal is to complete a Legacy path that coincides with those categories. Examples include completing a Scientific Legacy as the Abbasids or the Cultural Legacy as Greece.Milestones - These refer to long-term tallies, such as how many turns you've played, how many Wonders you've built, how many times you've promoted your commanders, and more.Accomplishments - Think of these as achievements. These are still akin to milestones, except they tend to be very specific. Here are some examples: Reinforce the same commander with units three or more times over the course of a single war.Have a city with 37 urban districts.Have over 100 population in your empire.Become a suzerain of each type of city-state in a single age.Settle a town next to a volcano and have it reach 10 population. What affects Leader XP?The Civilization 7 Leader XP feature, meanwhile, has general concepts that you can tackle for each character:Finish the Antiquity/Exploration/Modern Age Y once/twice/thrice.Complete era-specific Legacy Paths once/twice/three times.Complete leader-specific narrative events.Note that these kinds of narrative events are those that (usually) show a character's portrait/model or ones that refer to them by name. Likewise, these quests are era-specific, too, so try to finish them before you transition to the next age. How to earn more XP in a single match?Ideally, you should play each campaign run at your leisure, without necessarily focusing too much on what you'll get at the end. However, if you really want to get more Foundation XP and Leader XP in Civilization 7, then here are some tips:Each era has four Legacy paths/milestones to tackle: Cultural, Economic, Military, and Science. You're not locked-in to a particular Legacy. You can try various objectives as you progress and even complete multiple milestones. As you continue onward, look at the era counter in the top-left corner of your screen--i.e. the percentage value that shows if the era is about to end. At around the 70 to 80% mark, make a backup manual save. This is because the full completion of Legacy paths/milestones adds a huge chunk to the progress meter, causing the age to end abruptly. At this point, you can keep going to complete certain Legacy milestones. Here's a good example for the Exploration Age: You and your opponent have settlements on another continent--i.e. distant lands. You can do the objectives for the Military Legacy (i.e. settle, conquer, or convert settlements in distant lands), Cultural Legacy (i.e. get holy relics from religious conversion), and Economic Legacy (i.e. send Treasure Fleets back to your home continent).Let's say the progress gauge is at 90% and you're almost done with the Economic Legacy milestone. Just click on your Treasure Fleet and park them in water tiles near your home continent.Next, use your missionaries to convert settlements to your religion, which should, hopefully, net you points for your Military Legacy and Cultural Legacy.Once the progress gauge reaches 100%, the next age doesn't start until you end your turn. So, at this point, just unload the wares from the Treasure Fleet ships that you parked earlier. This should complete the Economic Legacy path, too.The above method should help you complete all three Legacy challenges for your chosen leader in that particular era, all in one match. However, if the era ends too soon, you can always reload your save to try again. This is better than having to start a whole run from scratch. That does it for our guide on how to get more Foundation XP and Leader XP in Civilization 7. If you'd like to know more about boosting your leader's capabilities, you can check our attributes/perks guide.Explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate your way to victory with the help of our Sid Meier's Civilization 7 guides hub.

  • How to heal in The Nether in Destiny 2
    www.polygon.com
Healing in The Nether activity in Destiny 2 is greatly reduced due to the modes roguelite inspiration. The goal is for you to seek out alternative forms of healing aside from passive restoration, such as Healing Grenades and the support frame auto rifle introduced in The Final Shape expansion. In this Destiny 2 guide, well walk you through how to heal in The Nether so you and your Fireteam can escape with your lives. But firstPSA: Healing in The Nether is bugged in Destiny 2Unfortunately, as of this writing, most healing methods in The Nether are bugged and are not working as intended. Bungies comms team assured players via social media that its targeting a balance patch to fix these issues as early as the week of Feb. 10, although the studio hasnt nailed down a date yet. With the bug currently in place, there are almost no healing items or builds that we recommend using in The Nether. However, there are a few items that somehow missed out on the bug and are healing players to full, which well go into more in the section below. Its worth mentioning that there is a Boon that you can choose while playing The Nether that will give you healing when casting your class ability. And you can, of course, break the urns scattered around the Dreadnaught to pick up Healing Orbs for some very minor healing. Best Destiny 2 healing items in The Nether (for now)All items that use the Solar healing keywords Cure, Restoration, etc. heal for almost nothing in The Nether. However, there are some older weapons and non-Solar abilities that grant you health and are healing normally, as of this writing. The following weapons and Aspects have the ability to fully heal yourself or allies, even inside of The Nether:Knockout Titan AspectCrimson Exotic hand cannonLumina Exotic hand cannonCrimson is Red Deaths hand cannon cousin, and its able to fully heal the wielder on a kill. However, it does zero healing to any nearby allies and is a purely selfish choice. Use this if youre going in alone or if youre playing on Expert and you want to be able to spread out a little. Its a random drop Exotic from an older era in Destiny 2, so if youre a newer Guardian, you might not have opened enough Exotic Engrams to get it just yet.Lumina is more of a team-players weapon, as youll be able fully heal any allies with the special Noble Rounds it fires after getting a kill. Opposite to Crimson, however, you have no way of healing yourself with Lumina if youre alone. This hand cannon came out in the Season of Opulence many years ago, and is now something youll need to buy from the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower. If youre a Titan player, Knockout is an obvious choice, and can even be paired with one of the Exotic hand cannons to really help out your healing. While you have Knockout active, your melee kills will heal you to full. Knockout is very powerful even outside of the Nether this episode, as Arc is boosted by the Artifact during Heresy, and you can use Knockout while playing Prismatic Titan.

  • The Cheapest Ways to Get Your Protein Right Now
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.Eggs used to be one of the cheapest protein sources out there. Back when they cost $2 a dozen, the 84 grams of protein in a carton of extra-large eggs worked out to just 48 cents per 20 grams of protein. But we are having a major bird flu outbreak, and when the virus is found on a farm, often the entire flock needs to be slaughtered to prevent its spread. That's why eggs are in demand and egg prices are up now, and the USDA's Economic Research Service expects egg prices to rise 20% this year. (The CDC has more information here on the bird flu outbreak, but it's worth noting that the Trump administration has already interfered with the publication of bird flu research despite this crisis.)Public health aside, let's look at the grocery prices we're now facing. Eggs are no longer your cheapest bet, although fortunately the price of whey powder has come down since the last egg price spike in 2023. So I figured its time to recalculate the price we pay for a serving of protein, across a variety of grocery items. I'm including the classic meat, eggs, and protein powder, as well as a few underrated options like tofu and peanuts. MethodologyThe following calculations are not from an exhaustive national survey of prices. After failing to find a good source of up-to-date prices that could be fairly compared to each other on deadline, I instead used non-sale prices from chain grocery stores in Pittsburgh, checking Amazon and Walmart as well for a few items that werent available in store. I did most of my price lookups via Instacart. When there were multiple packages or brands available, I chose the cheapest reasonable-looking item, the thing I would most likely grab if I were shopping for myself on a budget. I didn't use bulk prices. If one store had a drastically cheaper price than the others in town, I skipped that one and picked a more typical price from among its competitors. Basically, I'm trying to be fair, using my judgment as to what prices are most representative of the market we're in.The prices in your location may be higher or lower than the specific ones I found, but I'm hoping the relative priceswhich items are cheaper than otherswill be similar in your area. You can calculate your own with this formula: (price per item) / (grams of protein in the whole package) = price per gramAs we go through the list, note that Ive calculated the price per 20 grams of protein. (Multiply the number you get above by 20.) That would be enough for a small snack, or you can double or triple it for a big protein-rich meal. For comparison, a chicken breast is about 40 grams of protein. The cheapest protein sources overallNothing on my list matches the cost-effectiveness of $2 or even $2.50/dozen eggs (RIP), but the following are all under $1 per 20 grams of protein: Chicken thighs (bone-in, skin on), 62 cents ($1.99/lb, 64 grams of protein)Skim milk, 65 cents ($4.29/gallon, 133 grams of protein)Black beans, dried, 66 cents ($3.29/lb, 100 grams of protein)Peanuts (!), 71 cents ($3.99/lb, without shells, 112 g)Whole milk, 81 cents ($4.99/gal, 123 g)String cheese, low-moisture mozzarella, 88 cents ($3.69 for a 12-pack, 84 g) FARAON Black Beans, 4 Pound $6.36 at Amazon Get Deal Get Deal $6.36 at Amazon Tuna didn't make my list this year, coming in at $1.29 for a can with 20 grams of protein. (It was slightly cheaper last time I made up a list like this.) Chicken breast and canned black beans are both honorable mentions at just over a dollar per 20 grams. The cheapest meats to get your proteinChicken is cheap enough that it made our overall cheapest list above. Chicken breast is expensive per pound, but you get a lot of protein for that money. Bone-in, skin-on chicken legs are, by contrast, dirt cheapbut that price includes bones, which are inedible, and plenty of fat in the meat and skin. Some of that fat may drain away, depending on how you prepare the chicken. Chicken thighs (bone-in, skin on), 62 cents ($1.99/lb, 64 grams of protein)Chicken breast, $1.01 ($6.99/lb, 139 g)When it comes to cuts of meat, youll be making a similar tradeoff. In terms of protein price, more expensive cuts of meat can still be cost-effective if they are lean. Well let you run your own numbers for your favorite steaks and such, but here are two common types of ground beef: 80/20 beef (20% fat), $1.58 ($5.99/lb, 76 g)93/7 beef (7% fat), $1.46 ($6.99/lb, 96 g)At the moment, several other meats are coming in cheaper than ground beef, although meat prices vary a lot, and you may find something different. Here's what I found at my local stores: Pork tenderloin, $1.43 per 20 grams of protein ($5.99 per pound, with 84 grams of protein)Frozen tilapia, $1.22 per 20 grams of protein ($9.76 per pound, for 160 grams of protein). Note that fish prices vary, and that you can usually get better prices if you buy frozenso this one might move up in the rankings if you can get a good deal in the frozen section.Ground turkey, $1.73 ($8.29 per pound, for 96 grams of protein). For comparison, here are two items that worked out to be more expensive than the others. One I expected, one not so much:Salmon, $2.10 for 20 grams of protein ($9.66/lb for 92 grams of proteinand thats cheap for salmon!)Canned chicken, $2.17 for 20 grams of protein ($2.41 for a can that includes 18 grams of protein)Cheapest vegetarian protein optionsWhat about things that arent meat? Besides eggs, its good to know that dairy, beans, and tofu are also great protein sources. Peanuts and dried beans were the only plant-based items that cracked our under-$1 list above (alongside milk, for you lacto-ovo folks). Here are a few more non-meat items with their prices, many of them a better deal than the meats (mostly cheaper than beef but more expensive than chicken): Dried black beans, $0.66 for 20 grams of protein ($3.29/lb, 100 grams of protein)Canned black beans, $1.03 for 20 grams of protein ($1.29 per can with 25 grams of protein)Eggs, $1.12 for 20 grams of protein if you buy them at $4.69/dozen (extra large). Prices are volatile here, so calculate your own: large eggs have 6 grams of protein each, extra-large have 7 grams.Cheddar cheese, $1 per 20 grams of protein ($2.79 for an 8-ounce block of cheese with 56 grams of protein)Extra firm tofu, $1.16 per 20 grams of protein ($2.49/lb, 43 grams of protein)String cheese, low-moisture mozzarella, 88 cents ($3.69 for a 12-pack, 84 g)Whey protein powder, $1.10 per 20 grams of protein ($38.25 for a tub that contains 696 grams of protein)Egg whites in a carton, $1.41 per 20 grams of protein ($3.53 for a 16 ounce carton with 50 grams of protein)Greek yogurt, $1.50 per 20 grams of protein ($5.99 for a 32 ounce container that includes 80 grams of protein) Yogurt is another one of those items where the price varies a lot by brand and variety, so shopping around is especially important here.As with any price comparison, check the numbers at your local store. Prices vary across the country, and some items (like those eggs!) are changing from day to day. Sales, coupons, and frozen items can also help you find cheaper prices than these, so if you manage to beat what we found, were happy for you.
