JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon scorned calls from some employees to soften the banks five-day return-to-office policy in an animated town hall meeting on Wednesday, according to a recording reviewed by Reuters.Employees at the largest U.S. bank have complained on internal message boards and chats about losing hybrid working arrangements, and one group launched an online petition urging Dimon to reconsider.When asked about the in-person work policy during the staff meeting, he said: Dont waste time on it. I dont care how many people sign that fucking petition, he said, drawing some laughter.JPMorgan declined to comment.Instead, Dimon demanded more efficiency and stressed that employees have a choice whether to work at JPMorgan. The CEO told them not to be mad at him, and said that it was a free country.The rollback of remote working policies has prompted groans from some workers as COVID-19 lockdowns receded. JPMorgans call for more workers to come back brought a deluge of complaints, many from back-office workers.Some employees sought advice from the Communications Workers of America on how they might set up a labor union, a rare thing in the U.S. finance sector, CWA campaign lead Nick Wiener said.About 950 people had signed the petition against the five-day policy by Wednesday evening. JPMorgan has more than 317,000 employees worldwide.Dimon, who has run the lender for 19 years, said some staff did not pay attention during Zoom meetings, which reduced their efficiency and creativity.JPMorgans profits surged to a record in 2024 and its share price roughly doubled in the past five years. The strong performance prompted some workers to question why they needed to spend more time in the office.In-office requirements will not be left up to managers, Dimon said.There is no chance that I will leave it up to managers, he said. The abuse that took place is extraordinary.Dimons view is shared by many Wall Street leaders and President Donald Trump, who demanded the end of remote work arrangements in the federal government.Dimon has asked all the banks departments to show 10% gains in efficiency, which would entail 10% cuts in reports, meetings, documents and training sessions.During the town hall, Dimon recounted a story about a wealth management matter that required 14 committee approvals.I feel like firing 14 chairmen of committees, I cant stand it anymore, he said. Im sorry. Its my fault. Im the boss.He also cited performance reviews for the banks operating committee that could stretch to six pages.Because of legal and risk, they have to look at it, the regulators might say, there could be litigation around it, so you have to be careful, Dimon said. These UU Tiles are by Unknown Untitled, a Paris-based industrial design firm. They're essentially tile-based lamps. "UU Tilesbegan as a research initiative and evolved into a full tile collection thanks to a collaboration with a historic Normandy tile manufacturer. Challenging the prevailing focus on mobility and flexibility in interior design, UU Tiles explores sustainability via permanence and integrated functions. It comprises plain tiles, ceramic hooks, and lamps. A sense of modernity arises even though the enduring quality of the material supports the search for timeless forms." They've yet to release images of the hooks.While I understand the importance of experimentation in design, is it just me, or is this product crazy? Your average wall-mounted lamp can easily be installed and moved, with the biggest pain being the snaking of in-wall wiring. This one adds another level of installation complexity: It has to be part of a larger tile body, and now we're getting mastic or mortar involved, so it's never coming off of the wall.That said, the product is currently sold out, so apparently there's demand.

When you really think hard about it, the computer mouse doesnt exactly make sense from an interaction point of view. Its an indirect method that moves an object thats only virtually connected to the cursor on your screen. But because of its ubiquity, our brains have adapted to almost thinking about mice as second nature, using it as swiftly as we would a pen on paper.That doesnt mean its perfect in terms of design, and definitely not in terms of ergonomics. Theres plenty of room not only for improvement but also for exploring other forms that could make the device more interesting. This DIY project, for example, reduces the mouse to something like a V-shaped LEGO block that you wear on your finger, making it practically invisible until your hand starts to hurt.Designer: juskimThe most basic requirements for a mouse are a sensor that translates hand movement to cursor movements and sensors for detecting mouse clicks. The fact that trackpads and styluses perform these functions as well demonstrates that the standard bulging mouse design isnt exactly a requirement. Some concepts try to take advantage of that by designing unusual shapes, but this particular experiment completely does away with almost all of those.The Mouse Ring, as it is called, is practically reduced to the optical sensor for movement, microcontrollers that connect the mouse to a wireless receiver, a tiny battery for power, and two proximity sensors. That last bit is perhaps the most interesting part since it uses your finger movements as substitutes for mouse buttons. With the Mouse Ring on the middle finger, raising and dropping your index finger is interpreted as a left click, while doing the same with the ring finger becomes the right click.The device works and it makes you feel like youre living in the future, using a nearly invisible mouse that wraps around your finger like a pulse oximeter. But as you might have expected, its not exactly the best experience. Ignoring even the latency when detecting clicks, the ergonomics of such a mouse is even worse than the least ergonomic standard mouse. Lifting the ring finger isnt exactly easy and keeping your hand arched like that without support will definitely be painful after a while.That said, the experiment could lead to further improvements, especially considering a working prototype has been proven to work. Its particularly impressive how small the electronics are, which in turn opens the door to even more unconventional mouse designs. For this pink Instax mini EVO, that justification comes via Rio Takeda, Fujifilms sponsored golf queen who has had eight wins in the LPGA of Japan Tour.Whether pink is Takedas official color is probably not going to be that important if youre the type to go for special editions anyway. Both the faux leather front material as well as the main body of this camera are pink, unlike the normal Instax models that have a dual-tone color scheme. But yes, if youre a fan of the golfer, youll be tickled pink, pardon the pun, with the special edition strap that has her name on it, as well as an autographed Instax print.The Instax mini EVO sets itself apart from dozens of other instant cameras with its hybrid function, basically functioning both as an instant camera as well as a smartphone printer. On the one hand, you can experience the simple joys of taking a quick photo and printing it out with some effects and stickers. On the other hand, you can select a photo from your phones gallery to print, even if it wasnt taken using the mini EVO.If youre a fan of pink or Rio Takeda and youre living outside Japan, youll be out of luck, though. In addition to a limited run, the Instax mini EVO pink edition will only be available in the golf queens home country.
