  • Elon Musks xAI releases its latest flagship model, Grok 3
    techcrunch.com
Elon Musks AI company, xAI, released its latest flagship AI model, Grok 3, late Monday night, along with new capabilities in the Grok apps for iOS and the web. Grok, xAIs answer to models like OpenAIsGPT-4oand GooglesGemini, can analyze images and respond to questions, and powers a number of features on Musks social network, X. Grok 3, which has been in development for several months, wasoptimistically slatedfor release in 2024, but missed that deadline. Mondays is an ambitious launch.xAI has been using an enormous data center in Memphis a data center containing around 200,000 GPUs to train Grok 3. In aposton X, Musk claimed that Grok 3 was developed with 10x more computing than Grok 2, its predecessor, and with an expanded training data set that ostensibly includesfilings from court cases.Image Credits:xAIGrok 3 is an order of magnitude more capable than Grok 2, Musk said during a live-streamed presentation Monday. [Its a] maximally truth-seeking AI, even if that truth is sometimes at odds with what is politically correct.Grok 3 is a family of models, to be precise not just one. A smaller version of Grok 3, Grok 3 mini, responds to questions more quickly at the cost of some accuracy. Not all models are available as of yet, but the rollout begins Monday.xAI claims that Grok 3 beats GPT-4o on benchmarks including AIME, which evaluates a models performanceon a sampling of math questions, and GPQA, which tests models with PhD-level physics, biology, and chemistry questions. An early version of Grok 3 also scored competitively in Chatbot Arena, a crowdsourced test that pits different AI models against each other and has users vote on their preferred responses, according to xAI.Image Credits:xAITwo variations of Grok 3, Grok 3 Reasoning and Grok 3 mini Reasoning, can carefully think through problems, similar to reasoning models like OpenAIs o3-mini and Chinese AI company DeepSeeks R1. Reasoning models thoroughly fact-check themselves before giving out results, whichhelps themavoid some of thepitfallsthat normally trip up models. xAI claims that Grok 3 Reasoning surpasses the best version of o3-mini o3-mini high on several popular benchmarks, including a newer mathematics benchmark called AIME 2025. Image Credits:xAIThe reasoning models can be accessed via the Grok app. Users can ask Grok 3 to think, or for more difficult questions leverage Big Brain mode for additional, more careful reasoning. xAI describes the modes as best suited for mathematics-, science-, and coding-related questions. Musk said that some of the reasoning process is being obscured to prevent distillation, a method used by AI model developers to extract knowledge from another model. Recently, Chinese AI company DeepSeek was accused of distilling OpenAIs models to create its own.Groks reasoning mode joins another new feature called DeepSearch, xAIs answer to AI-powered deep research tools like OpenAIs Deep Research. DeepSearch scans the internet and X to analyze information and deliver an abstract in response to a query. Subscribers to Xs Premium+ subscription will get Grok 3 first, and other features are gated behind a subscription that xAIs calling SuperGrok. Priced at $30 per month or $300 per year, SuperGrok unlocks additional reasoning and DeepSearch queries and throws in unlimited image generation. Image Credits:xAIIn the future as soon as about a week from now Grok will gain a voice mode, Musk said. A few weeks later, the Grok 3 models will arrive in xAIs enterprise API, along with the DeepSearch feature. And a few months after that, xAI will open-source Grok 2, Musk said. Our general approach is that we will open-source the last version [of Grok], when the next version is fully out, Musk said. When Grok 3 is mature and stable, which is probably within a few months, then well open-source Grok 2.When Musk announced Grok roughly two years ago, he pitched the AI as edgy, unfiltered, and anti-woke in general, willing to answer controversial questions other AI systems wont. He delivered on some of that promise. Told to be vulgar, for example, Grok and Grok 2 would happily oblige, spewing colorful language you likely wouldnt hear fromChatGPT.But Grok models prior to Grok 3hedgedon political subjects and wont crosscertain boundaries. In fact, one studyfound that Grok leaned to the political left on topics like transgender rights, diversity programs, and inequality.Musk has blamed the behavior on Groks training data public web pages andpledgedto shift Grok closer to politically neutral. Its not clear yet whether xAI achieved that goal.

  • Grok 3 launch confirmed as 10 times more powerful than previous model
    www.digitaltrends.com
Elon Musk and the xAI team announced the Grok 3 AI model in an evening live stream on Monday. The team detailed that the new model is a magnitude more capable than Grok 2, indicating Grok 3 has 10 to 15 times more power than Grok 2. They also claim that Grok 3 is more powerful than its AI model competitors such as DeekSeek and Google Gemini. The xAI team said it has been improving on the Grok 3 AI model over the last several months, noting that it will be very, very funny, and adding that it has only been 17 months since the launch of the Grok 1 model.Recommended VideosThe team has tested Grok 3 against many scholastic challenges, including the American Invitational Mapping Foundation, which the model matched up well against. In demos, the xAI team showed how Grok 3 performed interesting tasks, such as computing a spacecraft mission from Earth to Mars and back and creating a game that is a mix of Tetris and Bejeweled. The team also mentioned that Grok 3 includes a feature called Big Brain, which is a reasoning model mode allowing for deeper thinking when processing queries.Musk noted that 17 months prior, the original Grok model could barely solve high school problems, and now Grok is ready to go to college, with how much it has advanced. In addition to Grok 3, the team also mentioned that it is working on an AI gaming studio, which will be a service for consumers. Additionally, it is developing a Deep Search feature for Grok, which will be xAIs version of AI Agents.Grok 3 will be available as of Monday for Premium + users. The team is also rolling out a new subscription product called SuperGrok, which will have better access to the AI model and additional features.xAIThe xAI team noted that Grok 3 should be treated as a beta version, and users should be mindful of errors in its processing. In a post-launch Q&A, the team confirmed that Grok 3 can process audio into text. Additionally, they confirmed, that Grok 2 will be made open source once Grok 3 is mature and stable.Editors Recommendations

  • A Ukrainian brigade says North Korean troops have 'disappeared' in its area as Pyongyang's forces grow quiet
    www.businessinsider.com
A Ukrainian brigade says it hasn't seen North Koreans for a while in its part of the front in Kursk. It comes as North Korea abruptly reduced its presence in the war after weeks of intense fighting. But it's unclear what Pyongyang is planning after conflicting reports of withdrawal emerged.A Ukrainian brigade in the Kursk region said it's recently no longer been encountering North Korean troops, as questions remain over Pyongyang's plans for the war front.Petro Gaidashchuk, a senior communications officer for the 80th Air Assault Brigade, told Radio NV that while North Korean troops were still reported elsewhere on the battlefield, they've "disappeared" from his brigade's part of the front."If we look at January, the front was saturated with North Koreans, in particular in the area of responsibility of the Galician Brigade," Gaidashchuk said in Ukrainian during the interview published on Monday. The 80th is sometimes referred to as a Galician Brigade."As of now, the reports of their presence are partially true," Gaidashchuk said of the North Koreans. "We have not observed them in our part of the front. Other brigades interacted with them a few days ago. As of now, they have disappeared."Gaidashchuk said his brigade theorized that the North Korean soldiers may have withdrawn due to heavy losses."They withdrew, we do not know why," he said.Other reports in the last month have said the same: After weeks of attempting to storm Ukrainian positions across Kursk, North Korea's forces have grown relatively quiet since late January.A spokesperson for Ukraine's special forces told local media at the time that his branch hadn't seen North Korean soldiers for weeks, saying that the Russian-allied troops had been "forced to withdraw." The New York Times, citing Ukrainian and US officials, reported similar observations the day before, writing that Pyongyang's forces were "taken off the front line."South Korea's national intelligence agency also said in early February that North Korean troops had been pulled from the fighting.Western intelligence estimates that about 11,000 North Korean soldiers were sent to fight Ukraine late last year and that about 4,000 have been wounded or killed since. The UK Defense Ministry said the losses likely caused North Korea's troops to temporarily withdraw and "rest and refit before redeploying."But Pyongyang's presence in Kursk doesn't seem to have disappeared completely.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on February 7 that North Korean troops had returned to the front lines in "new assaults" in Kursk, though it's unclear to what extent.Speaking to The Warzone in late January, Ukrainian intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov also said that North Koreans had significantly reduced their in Kursk, but warned against dismissing them as out of the picture."We have to wait some time to see if there are any real changes or if this is just lower activities for a couple of days," Budanov said.He disputed reports that North Korean troops had completely withdrawn.Zelenskyy voices triumph over PyongyangThe uncertainty over North Korea's next move comes as Pyongyang and Moscow strengthen their defense ties to weather the international sanctions imposed on their economies.North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has sent troops, weapons, and ammunition to Russia, with Western intelligence reporting that he's receiving financial assistance, technological expertise, and food from Russia in exchange.North Korea sending troops to Kursk sparked concerns in the West that Russia's invasion was drawing the direct involvement of other states. But it's now unclear if Pyongyang's intervention will escalate as feared or recede.More recently, Zelenskyy spoke triumphantly on Saturday of Ukraine's fight against North Korea's forces."We completely destroyed the North Korean units that Putin had to bring in because his own forces weren't enough to hold back our counteroffensive," he said in his speech at the Munich Security Conference.Yet he also cautioned against complacency when it came to Pyongyang."Make no mistake North Koreans are not weak," he said. "They are learning how to fight now, how to fight the modern war."Russia's defense ministry did not respond to a request for comments sent by Business Insider outside regular business hours.

  • Kylie Kelce says there are 3 things a man should do for his pregnant wife
    www.businessinsider.com
Kylie Kelce is expecting her fourth child with her husband, former NFL player Jason Kelce. Her advice includes extending patience and providing postpartum support."Remember that your wife is growing a human," Kelce said. Kylie Kelce is expecting her fourth child with retired NFL player Jason Kelce and she knows a thing or two about dealing with pregnancy.During an interview with Alex Cooper on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast on Wednesday, Kelce shared three things that men should do for their pregnant wives."Remember that your wife is growing a human," Kelce, 32, told Cooper. "Sometimes I think guys are like, 'Oh, she's fine.' And I'm like, no. You're actively building a human being, so, like, just give her some grace."It's also important for men to adopt a "this, too, shall pass" attitude, and remember that the challenges of pregnancy such as mood swings are temporary, she said."I've had pregnancies where I've been really, really emotional, and after the pregnancy, I'm like, 'Jason, I don't know how you did that. Jesus, thank you for sticking with me," Kelce said. The couple has been married since 2018, and they share three daughters Wyatt Elizabeth, Elliotte Ray, and Bennett Llewellyn with a fourth daughter on the way.Lastly, Kelce says new mothers need their husbands' support during the postpartum period, too perhaps even more than during the pregnancy."Postpartum is one of the hardest things I've ever done in my whole life. Labor is like a drop in the bucket compared to postpartum," Kelce said. She added that she didn't feel immediately connected to her eldest daughter, Wyatt, the first time she brought her home."I did not feel that immediate, like, 'This is my baby,'" Kelce said. "I didn't have that sensationalized, like, 'I'm a mother now.' It was like a slow ease in."The first few weeks postpartum were difficult on her body as well, she said."We're both in diapers. I have a cooling pad on my lady bits. I am afraid to sit down at any given point because it hurts so bad, and at the same time, every two hours, I'm supposed to connect you to my boob and something's going to happen," Kelce said.Postpartum typically refers to the first six to eight weeks after delivery. During this period, many changes both physical and emotional occur in a woman's body.Physical symptoms that new mothers may experience include breast engorgement, cramps, and vaginal bleeding. Some women also experience emotional symptoms, such as postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety."Postnatal depression and anxiety are incredibly common and it is so important that it is identified early to help you receive the support and treatment that you may need," Dr. Brooke Vandermolen, an OB/GYN, previously told Business Insider. "Communicating your feelings can really help so others around you know how you are feeling," she said. In addition to getting enough rest, new mothers should also pay attention to their diet, stay hydrated, and limit their physical activity at least until their doctors give them the go-ahead, per Cleveland Clinic.A representative for Kelce did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by BI outside regular hours.

Yoshiki YokoyamaArchitects: Architrip Inc.AreaArea of this architecture projectArea:72 mYearCompletion year of this architecture project Year: 2024 PhotographsPhotographs:Yoshiki Yokoyama Lead Architects: Shota Kuwana, Ryota Hiraoka More SpecsLess SpecsSave this picture!Text description provided by the architects. We designed a new shop on the site of a commercial facility located in the center of Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture. The client's request was to build a third shop on the site (89 m2) between the existing shops No. 1 and No. 2. Existing shop No. 1 has a special structural form and organic plan shape while existing shop No. 2 is a simple building with black siding. The major issue was what kind of new architecture should be created in the space between these contrasting buildings.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! We decided to make the most effective use of the limited area of the building by using the first floor as a shop and the second floor as an office and building in a shape that appears by receding the outline and boundaries of the existing shop. Although the first and second shops appear to be different types of buildings at first glance, we found a commonality in that they incorporate a semi-exterior space using wood as a design element.Save this picture! We designed the third shop to incorporate this common spatial element into its design. The entrance to the first-floor shop is partially overhung from the second floor to create a continuous flow line from the existing shop. This semi-exterior space serves as an important connection point for traffic between the different shops.Save this picture!Once inside the shop, the waffle-shaped wooden beams are exposed. The ceiling is 3.5m high and is designed to be continuous with the half-exterior space of the existing shop, creating a spacious environment. Light streaming in through high-sided windows creates a bright space where natural light fills the interior during the day.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The exterior of the curved wall is covered with vertical 300 mm wide siding, and the interior is painted with diatomaceous earth. This striking curved wall brings depth and softness to the space and also serves as an accent that adds variety to the place. In the office space on the second floor, a private balcony was planned in a position overlooking the entire site to give a sense of the entire shop.Save this picture!Looking over the entire building complex, it seems as if there are three brothers standing side by side, each with a different character. Although they have different looks and atmospheres, we intentionally designed common design elements to create a natural landscape as if they had been standing there for a long time. We hope that many people will visit the building in the future and that it will become a place that brings liveliness to the town.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, JapanLocation to be used only as a reference.
