The Season 2 Reloaded update arrives in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone on February 20. In addition to all the new content announced, the patch notes also reveal that the update includes weapon balancing, tons of bug fixes for Zombies maps, and a slew of quality-of-life improvements for Warzone.Additionally, this midseason update includes two new multiplayer maps, six more DLC weapons, and the recently announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover event. You can find more of the Season 2 Reloaded highlights here, including a first look at all the TMNT skins coming to the game. Weapon buffs for multiplayer and ZombiesSeason 2 Reloaded includes weapon adjustments for weapons in multiplayer and Zombies. This includes a notable buff to the GPR 91 assault rifle, with a maximum damage range increase from 17.8 to 22.2m. The CHF Barrel and Rapid Fire attachments are also improved to help manage some of the weapon's recoil.Season 2's new Feng 82 light machine gun is also getting several buffs to make the weapon more viable. The developer says it wants the gun to play more aggressively than it has been, so the following improvements were made:Pre-fire delay improved from 55ms to 25ms.Slide to Fire Speed improved from 410ms to 380ms.Dive to Fire Speed improved from 490ms to 460ms.Aim Down Sight Speed improved from 400ms to 370ms.Movement Speed improved from 4.6m/s to 4.7m/s.Crouch Movement Speed improved from 2.1m/s to 4.3m/s.Sprinting Movement Speed improved from 6.1m/s to 6.3m/s.ADS Movement Speed improved from 2.5m/s to 2.7m/s. Improvements to melee lungeFive of the six new weapons in Season 2 Reloaded are melee weapons, including all of the TMNT weapons. So, it's not too surprising that the developer is making improvements to melee combat. According to Treyarch, improvements are made to melee lunge distances on some weapons, with a focus on the game's two-hit kill melee weapons. The developer says, "Our melee tuning philosophy revolves around keeping melee movement speeds the same (to prevent certain melee weapons from being optimal for hitting routes). That means hits-to-kill, attack speed, and lunge distance are our main tools for creating unique-feeling melee weapons. We know that more hits-to-kill can be a big disadvantage, so we'll continue to make sure that attack speed and lunge distance are providing sufficient upside." Multiplayer spawn adjustmentsThe spawn logic is adjusted on maps for Team Deathmatch to reduce chances of flipping too soon, which results in less immediate flipping. This means aggressively pushing your enemies shouldn't mean the game will immediately have those players "flipped" and spawning behind you.For Domination maps, the developer says it adjusted spawning logic to slightly reduce the "stickiness and strength that zone ownership has on spawns." Treyarch further explains by saying, "While we do want players to spawn near their owned zones, we also want to ensure that safe spawns can occur if enemies are advancing into your objectives." Tons of Zombies map improvementsThe big update will continue to make improvements to Season 2's The Tomb map. This includes addressing several bugs that could previously prevent players from progressing in the Ice Staff Wonder Weapon quest, the main storyline quest, and more. It also addresses an issue where Shock Mimics could push players out of bounds.Citadelle des Morts also gets several map improvements. This includes fixes for areas of the map where players could take out-of-bounds damage, a bug fix for the Solais sword quest, and several updates specific to the map's Directed Mode. New Zombies lootSeason 2 Reloaded adds more variety to the weapon pool for Zombies mode. The following weapons and support items are added to the Mystery Box and loot drops:PPSh-41Cypher 091Feng 82TR2War MachineHand Cannon Warzone loadout changeIn the past, Warzone players were able to regain after dying by re-visiting their team's old loadout drop. The developer describes this method in the patch notes as a "cheese" mechanic, and it will no longer be an option in Season 2 Reloaded. The developer further explains by saying, "As part of our ongoing efforts to refine gameplay, we've been addressing long-standing cheese mechanics to create a more balanced experience for all players. One exploit we've observed, particularly in Resurgence, involves a small percentage of players repeatedly using a Loadout Drop after death to duplicate their weapons."Now, players will need to either return to their dropped weapons from their death location, acquire a new Loadout Drop, purchase their weapon from a Buy Station, or scavenge new gear by other means. Quality-of-life improvements for WarzoneAs previously revealed by Activision, the focus for Season 2 of Warzone is on gameplay improvements. This includes a slew of small quality-of-life updates listed in the patch notes for this midseason update. Some of the big highlights include the new addition of a stamina bar that displays the amount of tactical sprint a player has remaining, a Killcam Delay, and better killfeed visibility.Weapon Buy Stations are also improved with the following changes:Trades now downgrade the weapon by only one rarity tier instead of two (e.g., Legendary now trades for Epic instead of Rare)Trade interaction times have been significantly reduced (e.g., trading a Legendary weapon now takes 1.75s instead of 5s)Fire Sale trading offers have been improvedThe full patch notes and more detailed weapon changes for Season 2 Reloaded can be found below for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, as shared by Activision. Season 2 Reloaded full patch notes Black Ops 6New Multiplayer MapsGrind Ooze (6v6)The fan-favorite map first released in Call of Duty: Black Ops II returns for Black Ops 6 in the mid-season! Show off your best combat moves in the outdoor Half Pipe and Cradle or take your chances inside as Operators trade shots around the Store and across the indoor skate ramps, with TMNT decals, posters, and artwork spread across the scenery.Bullet (6v6/2v2)Sev and Rogue Team deploy to a high-speed bullet train to neutralize a key enemy target. They will either need to return to their dropped weapons as indicated by the skull icon on the map, acquire a new Loadout Drop, purchase their weapon from a Buy Station, or find a Favorite Supply Box.As part of our ongoing efforts to refine gameplay, we've been addressing long-standing "cheese" mechanics to create a more balanced experience for all players. One exploit we've observed, particularly in Resurgence, involves a small percentage of players repeatedly using a Loadout Drop after death to duplicate their weapons.Since players already drop their weapons upon death and we've improved skull iconography to help them locate their previous death locations, we recognize that newer systems - such as the Weapon Trade Station - can be exploited through this method to generate excessive rewards. To maintain fair play and rebalance the in-game economy, we believe now is the right time to address this exploit.Weapon Trade Station BalancingTrades now downgrade the weapon by only one rarity tier instead of two (e.g., Legendary now trades for Epic instead of Rare).Trade interaction times have been significantly reduced (e.g., trading a Legendary weapon now takes 1.75s instead of 5s).Fire Sale trading offers have been improved.Loadout Drop MarkerLoadout Drop Markers no longer take priority when pinging near them.Stamina Bar Quality of LifeAdded a Stamina Bar that displays the amount of tactical sprint a player has remaining, which is off by default.Players can enable it in settings, with options to display it next to the squad widget or the reticle.Lethal/Tactical Refill on Loadout Pickup Quality of LifeMatching lethal/tactical equipment will now be refilled upon picking up a loadout instead of being dropped on the ground.Auto Pick-Up Lethal/Tactical Equipment Quality of LifeIf a player has empty lethal/tactical slots (indicated by white dots on the UI), they will now automatically pick up new equipment.Killcam Delay Quality of LifeA short delay (~0.5s) has been added at the start of the killcam to prevent players from accidentally skipping to the next player.Airspace Too Crowded Notification Quality of LifeThe "Airspace Too Crowded" message will now also play when equipping a killstreak based on where the player is looking.XP Text Adjustment Quality of LifeThe XP text was positioned too close to the center of the screen. It has now been adjusted for better readability.Disconnect Icon on Scoreboard Quality of LifeAdded support for a disconnect icon on the scoreboard to indicate when a teammate has disconnected.Gulag Killfeed Icon Quality of LifeA distinct killfeed icon has been added to differentiate between eliminations in the Gulag or on the field.Killfeed Visibility Quality of LifeSquad members can now see their teammates eliminations both in and out of the Gulag.Favorite Loadout Priority Quality of LifeA player's favorited loadout will now appear as the top loadout in the Loadout Crate.D-Pad Functionality in Winner Circle Quality of LifeIn Warzones Winner Circle screen, controller players can now use the D-pad to navigate the menu.Players must hold down left on the D-pad to enable emotes.Improved Icon Fade Distance While ADS Quality of LifeIncreased the distance from the center of the screen at which icons begin to fade out while aiming down sights, providing a clearer view.Recon Drone Damage Feedback Quality of LifePlayers using the Recon Drone will now receive feedback when taking damage from enemy players or environmental hazards like gas.Loot Distribution of Perk Packs Quality of LifeMade improvements to how Perk Packs overlap with other items when dropped on death.Enemy Advanced UAV VO Quality of LifeA voiceover line will now play when three enemy UAVs are used, signaling an Advanced UAV is active.Error Message for Deploying Boxes in Gas Quality of LifePlayers attempting to deploy Munitions, Armor, or Utility Boxes over ~40 meters in the gas will now receive an error message. PERKSNewLow Profile Perk Slot 1 Increases movement speed while crouched and prone. Enemies you kill will not display death markers for their allies. Grants a slight movement speed increase when downed. Can be unlocked via the Clover Craze event on March 13th.AdjustmentsMountaineerA fix for the Mountaineer Perk is set to launch shortly after the release of Season 02 Reloaded. We understand that many players have been eagerly waiting to use this new perk and we sincerely apologize for the delay. While we would have preferred to release it earlier, we appreciate your patience and cant wait for you to experience it soon. Stay tuned for updates on our Trello board.Reactive ArmorUpdated description for clarity.New Description: Your armor will regenerate up to 50% of its maximum if you have not taken damage in the last 5 seconds.AlertnessThe indicator will now always appear at the edge of a players screen, regardless of their HUD settings. EQUIPMENTAdjustmentsExperimental Gas GrenadeAdjusted movement speed penalties: With tactical resistance the penalty is 5%, down from 25%.Without tactical resistance the penalty is 15%, down from 50%Fixed a bug causing movement speed penalties to stack unintentionally. We've received feedback about the movement speed penalty caused by gas grenades. After a thorough investigation, we discovered that the penalty was being applied twice - an unintended issue. Even without this bug, we believe the current penalty is too severe and disrupts the flow of engagements. Additionally, this tactical item is unique in that it can also inflict damage. If you're having trouble countering it, consider using perks like Veteran to mitigate its effects.KILLSTREAKSAdjustmentsBunker BusterAdjusted movement speed penalties: With tactical resistance the penalty is 5%, down from 25%.Without tactical resistance the penalty is 15%, down from 50%UAVAdjusted the distance at which the "warning" callout for a UAV is triggered.Previously, there were instances where the warning callout would play, but the red box visual around the mini-map would not appear due to inconsistent distance settings.WEAPONSNew WeaponsD1.3 Sector SpecialRechambering blade launcher. • The Oppo Find N5 is an impressive, very thin foldable with a giant battery
    www.engadget.com
Oppo is back with a new foldable, and the Find N5 is a technically impressive balance of thinness and power. Skipping over the whole unlucky number four thing (this is technically the fourth iteration of the Find foldable), the company claims its latest book-style foldable is the worlds thinnest at 8.92mm. That's not a lot thicker than a typical flagship phone. Despite that, the Find N5 has a 6.62-inch outer display and an 8.12-inch inner screen which, Oppo says, features multiple durability improvements, flanked by a new titanium hinge. For the sake of clarity: While you may not have bought, used or even seen an Oppo phone, this company is under the same corporate owner as OnePlus. Last years Find N3 foldable ended up in the US as the OnePlus Open, so you may see the Find N5 similarly rebadged. If thats the case, and this is eventually the Open 2, you wont see it this year. OnePlus announced that its follow-up foldable will not land until 2025.At an early briefing, my first impression of the Find N5 was that it was a very thin, premium foldable. Unfolded, one side is just 4.21mm thinner than a headphone jack. (Thats a great excuse for the lack of one.) Its so slender that Oppo had to reinforce and beef up the edges of the Find N5s USB-C port, which has only a razor-thin border around it. The ring camera array which still looks a bit much has also been shaved down 20 percent.Mat Smith for EngadgetIn addition to that thinner profile, which seems to be the 2025 trend for phones, the Find N5 weighs just 229 grams (8.07 ounces). Thats only two more grams than the single-screen iPhone 16 Pro Max and 10 grams less than the N5's main rival the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Its even more impressive when you consider that the Find N5 has a bigger internal screen than all the other foldables. In fact, using its external screen when closed it feels like any other non-foldable phone, due to its sharp profile and light weight. A 6.62-inch screen is larger than most phones I use regularly, so browsing and watching things before Ive even unfolded the N5 feels like a treat.Despite its thickness (or lack thereof), Oppo has ensured it is suitably powerful, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a 5,600mAh battery. (For comparison, Samsungs latest Galaxy Fold has a 4,400mAh cell.) Unlike the OnePlus Open, the Find N5 is compatible with wireless chargers and if you have Oppos own wireless fast charger, it tops out at 50W AIRVOOC.Using the included fast charger, you get an impressive and swift 80W wired charging speed. I could completely recharge the Find N5 in less than an hour. However, like many other recent Android phones, this device is not Qi2-ready. Oppo argued that its proprietary wireless charging tech is faster, and added that a magnetic case will be on sale when the device launches. (Oppo does include a non-magnetic case to cover the device's rear with the phone.)With its Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the Find N5 is the first foldable to pack Qualcomms most powerful mobile chip, with substantial power efficiency gains alongside performance boosts compared to older Snapdragon 8 silicon. Weve been amazed by battery life improvements on Samsung and OnePlus devices with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and Oppo continues that trend. Combined with that massive battery, this foldable typically lasted almost two days in my testing before needing to charge. One of the biggest challenges to foldables is durability, and to address this, Oppo has upgraded the Find N5s hinge and screen toughness. The hinge is now made from titanium alloy, 3D-printed to maintain the material strength while shrinking the hinges size by 26 percent. At a press briefing in London, the company decided to showcase the hinge strength by suspending a 44-pound kettlebell from its new foldable, which spanned two tables. Im not sure this translates to real-world toughness, but it was an impressive spectacle. Next time, put your newest thousand-dollar-plus device somewhere near a three-year-old lets see how tough it really is.Mat Smith for EngadgetOppo says the smaller external screen is made of nanocrystal glass, which includes an outer layer of ceramic to improve scratch and drop resistance. The company also says the inner screen has been strengthened with a new anti-shock film that can absorb impact, improving shock resistance by 70 percent. The Find N5 also comes with a literal list of water resistances: IPX6 (resistant to powerful water jets), IPX8 (resistant to being submersed in water deeper than 1 meter) and IPX9 (resistant to powerful, high-temperature water jets). If you think at least one of those must be redundant, I agree. The Find N5 is the first foldable to claim all that protection. However, theres no dust-resistance rating, which might concern existing foldable users who have been grappling with that lil bit of dust lodged in their years-old smartphone screen.Camera improvements are focused on the periscope telephoto shooter, which is upgraded to 50MP sensor from the 32MP one found on the Find N3. The Find N5 can now punch into 3X optical zoom, up from 2X on its predecessor. Theres a lossless 6X zoom that taps into AI to sharpen detail, but as usual, your mileage may vary here. I find the lossless options on most phones often a little too smooth (and turn most zoomed-in faces into nightmares), but at least its an option. The periscope telephoto camera can also utilize a macro mode, meaning you can zoom in closer and still maintain crisp focus and detail. Macro photography with a typical smartphone doesnt always work. Your phone will cast a shadow on your subject, or perhaps you cant get your camera close enough. On the Find N5, a four-inch focal distance makes this less of an issue, and early images are promising. Its not the first time weve seen the feature (both the Huawei P60 Pro and vivo X100 Ultra have telephoto macros) but its rare in most devices that make it to the west. We usually have to make do with a macro mode on the ultrawide camera, and hope for the best.Mat Smith for EngadgetThe camera has many familiar features, too: portrait mode (with some Hasselblad assistance) and Lightning Snap burst shooting. The latter is augmented by Oppos take on AI unblurring and sharpening. Fold in an AI eraser and reflection remover and it goes toe-to-toe with recent Samsung and Google flagships.Multitasking is similar to the OnePlus Open, with some improvements. Oppos version is called Boundless View, with several features now accessible from a triple-dot icon, where you can shift second and even third apps into shrinkable windows. By tapping the top bar above one app, you can automatically widen it, but leave a sliver of the other app in view, making it easier to switch between them. One smart touch is that the Find N5 will gauge your multitasking, offering a prompt when switching between two apps to use them in split screen mode. As someone who doesnt use book-style foldables, I find it a nice reminder of the utility of this form factor.Another software addition is the O+ app, where you can manage files on your phone and even sling them across to your Mac. At the briefing, an Oppo exec showed how easy it was to transfer a photo across devices, which was pretty unremarkable. (Think of all the cloud options we have in 2025)Mat Smith for EngadgetBut it was the Remote Mac Control that surprised me. With the Find N5 propped up and half-folded, the Oppo spokesperson used the onscreen trackpad and keyboard to interact with their Mac. This feature works with both Intel and Apple Silicon-based Macs, so I was able to test it out with my aging Intel MacBook Pro. Does anyone remember and pine for that VAIO laptop that could slip into your jeans pocket? No? Just me? Just me. Anyway, it felt like using that. Youre not going to work daily from it, but if there are files, or certain simple tasks you need to accomplish in Photoshop or other PC programs, its functional and impressive. Its not quite as effortless or seamless as Apples own Continuity feature, since you have to install apps on the Find N6 and your Mac. Oppo promises a future update allowing you to transfer files to your Mac from Find N5s native Files app without dabbling in Remote Mac Control.Wrap-upMat Smith for EngadgetWith the Find N5, Oppo went to town on hardware. It feels and looks more premium than the companys previous foldables but with substantial spec bumps at a time when many smartphones seem a little iterative. (Yes, Samsung, you.) The intriguing part is, if the OnePlus Open 2 isnt happening in 2025, will this device make it to the US at all? And if it does appear next year, will all these upgrades be as impressive? The Find N5 launches globally today, with Oppo set to announce pricing just as this embargo breaks. Youll be able to order directly from the companys website if youre in the right country. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/mobile/smartphones/the-oppo-find-n5-hands-on-release-date-price-120058154.html?src=rss

  • The iPhone 16e was just announced, here's when to pre-order the new smartphone
    www.engadget.com
Apple's cheapest iPhone got a refresh and an unexpected name today. Instead of the widely anticipated iPhone SE 4, the company unveiled the new iPhone 16e, and it shifts to a full-screen design with Face ID while putting Apple Intelligence on an entry-level model for the first time. It also comes with an Action button, which debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro. You can pre-order the new model starting this Friday (February 21) ahead of its February 28 release date. The iPhone 16e looks much like the iPhone 14, one of Apple's 2022 models. The new phone has a much larger screen than previous iPhone SE a spacious 6.1 inches along with Face ID and swipe-based multitasking gestures. (The model it replaces had a Touch ID home button.) It has a notch at the top of the screen, not the floating Dynamic Island from higher-end iPhones. Apple Intelligence is increasingly central to the company's strategy, so don't be surprised to see Apple's iPhone 16e marketing center around it. In addition to zippy performance, the phone's A18 chip enables features like generative AI writing tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, ChatGPT integration and notification summaries. The phone is the cheapest entry point into Apple Intelligence by hundreds of dollars. The phone has a 48-megapixel Fusion "2-in-1" camera with a 2x telephoto system. Compared to the more expensive iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the SE's lack of extra rear cameras is one of the most noticeable things you'll miss out on. The new iPhone 16e comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage tiers, and is available in white and black colors options. At $599, the iPhone 16e is also $150 more than previous iPhone SE models, which typically cost around $429. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 starts at $799, and the additional $200 gets you a better camera system and a more modern design. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/mobile/smartphones/the-iphone-16e-was-just-announced-heres-when-to-pre-order-the-new-smartphone-162258599.html?src=rss

  • Quantum computing breakthrough? Microsoft says its new Majorana 1 chip shows were closer than ever
    www.fastcompany.com
Microsofton Wednesday unveiled a new chip that it said showed quantum computing is years, not decades away, joining Google and IBM in predicting that a fundamental change in computing technology is much closer than recently believed.Quantum computing holds the promise of carrying out calculations that would take todays systems millions of years and could unlock discoveries in medicine, chemistry and many other fields where near-infinite seas of possible combinations of molecules confound classical computers.Quantum computers also hold the danger of upending todays cybersecurity systems, where most encryption relies on the assumption that it would take too long to brute force gain access. The biggest challenge of quantum computers is that a fundamental building block called a qubit, which is similar to a bit in classical computing, is incredibly fast but also extremely difficult to control and prone to errors.Microsoftsaid the Majorana 1 chip it has developed is less prone to those errors than rivals and provided as evidence a scientific paper set to be published in academic journal Nature. When useful quantum computers will arrive has become a topic of debate in the upper echelons of the tech industry. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said last month that the technology was two decades away from overtaking his companys chips, the workhorses of artificial intelligence, reflecting broad skepticism. Those remarks prompted Google, which last year showed off its own new quantum chip, to say that commercial quantum computing applications are only five years away. IBM has said large-scale quantum computers will be online by 2033.MicrosoftsMajorana 1 has been in the works for nearly two decades and relies on a subatomic particle called the Majorana fermion whose existence was first theorized in the 1930s. That particle has properties that make it less prone to the errors that plague quantum computers, but it has been hard for physicists to find and control.Microsoftsaid it created the Majorana 1 chip with indium arsenide and aluminum. The device uses a superconducting nanowire to observe the particles and can be controlled with standard computing equipment. The chipMicrosoftrevealed Wednesday has far fewer qubits than rival chips from Google and IBM, butMicrosoftbelieves that far fewer of its Majorana-based qubits will be needed to make useful computers because the error rates are lower.Microsoftdid not give a timeline for when the chip would be scaled up to create quantum computers that can outstrip todays machines, but the company said in a blog post that point was years, not decades away.Jason Zander, theMicrosoftexecutive vice president who oversees the companys long-term strategic bets, described Majorana 1 as a high risk, high reward strategy. The chip was fabricated atMicrosoftlabs in Washington state and Denmark. The hardest part has been solving the physics. There is no textbook for this, and we had to invent it, Zander said in an interview with Reuters. We literally have invented the ability to go create this thing, atom by atom, layer by layer.Philip Kim, a professor of physics at Harvard University who was not involved inMicrosofts research, said that Majorana fermions have been a hot topic among physicists for decades and calledMicrosofts work an exciting development that put the company at the forefront of quantum research. He also said thatMicrosofts use of a hybrid between traditional semiconductors and exotic superconductors appeared to be a good route toward chips that can be scaled up into more powerful chips.Although theres no demonstration (of this scaling up) yet, what they are doing is really successful, Kim said.(Reporting by Stephen Nellis in San Francisco; Editing by Peter Henderson and Jamie Freed)

  • Trump keeps cutting election security jobs. Heres whats at risk
    www.fastcompany.com
As the Trump administration continues to dismantle federal agencies, one that plays a critical role in U.S. infrastructure and election security faces an uncertain future. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), housed in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and tasked with enforcing cybersecurity and protecting American infrastructure across all levels of government, placed multiple members of its election security team on administrative leave over the last few weeks, according to reports by the Associated Press and TechCrunch. The 17 reported election security team members, part of the agencys foreign influence and disinformation teams, were placed on administrative leave as part of an overall review of the team, with a particular focus on those two operations. A DHS spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied that number. On Friday, the Trump administration separately fired more than 130 members of CISA, the DHS confirmed. We are making sweeping cuts and reform across the federal government to eliminate egregious waste and incompetence that has been happening for decades at the expense of the American taxpayer, a DHS spokesperson wrote in an email to Fast Company. The DHS declined to answer any specific questions but noted that it is currently actively identifying other positions it deems wasteful. (The White House did not respond to Fast Companys request for comment.)Although it may be too early to understand the full impact of these personnel shifts, some experts warn that the moves could have serious consequences for future elections. Some of the staff who were put on administrative leave were the regional election security advisers, says Derek Tisler, a lawyer with the Brennan Center for Justice, a left-wing think tank. This was a group of election security experts, and they played a vital role in providing on-the-ground support, connecting local election officials to all of the various services and expertise that CISA has to offer.CISA, an agency created by President Donald Trump in 2018, was a critical resource to local election offices in the past three elections, Tisler tells Fast Company. The agency would help state and local officials protect their election systems against physical and cyber attacks. However, CISA found itself in Trumps crosshairs after the agency released a statement saying the 2020 election was the most secure in American history (Trump falsely claimed that the election was rigged). Trump responded by firing the then-director of CISAone of his own appointeesthrough a Tweet.Trump is not the only Republican to target CISA. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has been leading a crusade against the agency for the past two years. The Ohio congressman subpoenaed the agency for election-related documents, and the Judiciary Committee labeled it the nerve center of government censorship.Tisler says CISAs election security team has been vital because elections are so decentralized: There are more than 8,000 local election jurisdictions across the country that often have very small offices. CISA has valuable election security experts and resources that these offices can call upon.CISA, tasked with overseeing all critical infrastructure, does much more than police election security. Several of its flagship projects have encouraged awareness surrounding best practices for cybersecurity. The agency runs a database of exploited network vulnerabilities for businesses to refer to and has also encouraged tech companies to promote secure development practices in its Secure by Design campaign.Tisler fears that, should CISA dwindle in size, election security will become increasingly vulnerable to both foreign and domestic threats. Since the 2016 election, interference from foreign adversarieslike China, Iran, and Russiahas threatened American election security.Among the 130 CISA members fired by Trump, several were working to counter Chinese hacking threats, according to CNNs Zachary Cohen.Cybersecurity experts on both sides of the aisle have spoken very positively of CISA and the assistance it offers, according to Hugh Thompson, executive chairman of the cybersecurity conference RSAC. The cybersecurity community has become accustomed to partnering with CISA.If you believe that youre currently under attack, CISA would be one of the places that you would go to and either report the incident or get some feedback from them, Thompson says. The administrations approach to cybersecurity has made headlines outside of the job cuts at CISA. Last week, Trump tapped as his new national cyber director the RNC executive Sean Cairncross, who doesnt have any background in cybersecurity. And over the weekend, CISA temporarily froze all of its election security work. But experts agree that its still too early to tell whether these changes are cause for panic or just a sign of mass government overhaul. This is a constantly emerging space, says Tisler. Were going to lose a lot of the support that weve built up to fend off attacks. What exact impact will that have? Its hard to say, but its certainly concerning that there is going to be less support and less response available against cyber attacks.

  • Raspberry Pi 5 Case is more than just a cute homage to the Nintendo 64
    www.yankodesign.com
There is no shortage of retro mini consoles today that try to relive the glorious past of gaming. But while its definitely fun to walk down memory lane once in a while, many of these designs reveal the limitations of simply trying to repeat the past. Powerful as they might be, these devices are restricted to simply running a select number of games, not even the whole library of titles available to the original console theyre trying to imitate.Conversely, you can always dress up some single-board computer or SBC such as the Raspberry Pi and get the same feeling but with a bit more flexibility. Despite looking like a tiny gaming console, you can use it for more than just playing around. Thats the experience that this Nintendo-inspired case tries to bring to the Raspberry Pi 5, but it thankfully does more than just put the small computer inside a candy-colored chassis.Designer: RetroFlagAlthough probably less loved than the quirky-looking GameCube that it followed, the Nintendo 64 still had a notable existence in video game history as the last major home console to use a cartridge when everyone was already moving to optical discs. It may also be one of the last to adopt rather odd shapes for both the console itself as well as its controller, going outside the boundaries of the simple box that would define home consoles for the next decade or so. Its no surprise, then, that some people have had a fondness for the N64, and those might find comfort in this RPi recreation. The 64Pi, as this case is so subtly named, mimics the general shape of the Nintendo 64 console, a low box with odd protruding circles on its front corners. But unlike the monochromatic color scheme of the larger originals, this case splits the design between a white bottom and a translucent turquoise top. This makes it look more like the candy-inspired iMac G3 that coincidentally launched around the N64s lifetime. Given its diminutive size, this motif gives the 64Pi an even cuter appearance that really drives home the fact that its a machine meant for gaming. It isnt just a cover-up, though, and neither is it a simple Raspberry Pi case. It actually has a few features that go above and beyond trying to recreate a gaming console experience, such as routing two of the four USB ports to the front, right where the game controllers would normally connect. It also has special buttons for Power and Reset, the latter of which could be programmed to any action on the RPi. Finally, it also adds a heat sink and a cooling fan, just in case you really want to push the small computers capabilities to the limit. As adorable and as functional as the 64Pi case might be, it does have a raise a few concerns. The cramped space, for example, might not actually be good for both performance as well as the structural integrity of the board itself. It also makes the GPIO ports unreachable, which would have been a missed opportunity for implementing a cartridge-like system that would make the 64Pi even more flexible and desirable. The post Raspberry Pi 5 Case is more than just a cute homage to the Nintendo 64 first appeared on Yanko Design.
