NetEase attributes the change to " higher net revenues generated by PC games such as Naraka: Bladepoint and licensed titles."NetEase-owned studio Worlds Untold announced in December that it was pausing its operations, having been launched in 2023.NetEase also reportedly shut down Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios in August, with director Ryosuke Yoshida recently announcing he had quit to join Square Enix.

  • Nintendo opens Taiwan subsidiary to 'further strengthen' Taiwanese business
    www.gamedeveloper.com
Justin Carter, Contributing EditorFebruary 20, 20251 Min ReadImage via Nintendo.Nintendo recently started a new subsidiary office in Taiwan, which will take over operations for the region beginning April 1.Per a translation of the developer's Hong Kong website, the Taipei-based office will "further strengthen the business foundation in the Taiwan market and improve the service quality [for our] customers. [We] will uphold the business philosophy of Nintendo Group, and continue to promote business development."This subsidiary will be Nintendo's first office in the region in over a decade. Its previous Taiwan offshoot, Nintendo Phuten, was shut down in 2014 after the company slashed its yearly forecast due to poor WiiU sales. Its operations were then transferred over to Nintendo Hong Kong.Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizonAs NintendoLife notes, Nintendo has recently made an effort to reenter Taiwan's game market, and appeared at 2024's Taipei Game Show with a Nintendo Switch booth. On April 2, the day after Nintendo of Taiwan begins operations, Nintendo will hold a livestream focused on the Nintendo Switch 2. The developer has previously expressed hope that the new console will make up for the recent sales declines of its predecessor and avoid any production problems when it eventually releases later in 2025.After the Switch 2's reveal, Omdiaanalyst James McWhirter told Game Developer the firm expects the console to sell 14.7 million units during the 2025-2026 calendar year. Having a foothold in every market possible, Taiwan included, would go a way in reaching (or surpassing) those expectations.Read more about:[Company] NintendoAbout the AuthorJustin CarterContributing Editor, GameDeveloper.comA Kansas City, MO native, Justin Carter has written for numerous sites including IGN, Polygon, and SyFy Wire. • The Verges favorite kitchen gadgets
    www.theverge.com
Many members of The Verges staff enjoy cooking and all enjoy eating. Inspired by that admittedly obvious thought, we asked them to say which kitchen tools they most enjoy using these days.We got a wide and fascinating array of answers. They include gadgets that need to be charged, such as electric kettles, blenders, and smart thermometers, as well as simpler, non-powered tools like egg holders, spreader knives, and wooden spoons. (Sometimes simpler can be better.)So check out how our writers and editors hone their foodie skills, and let us know in the comments what your favorite kitchen tool is. (And feel free to check out our previous listing of favorite kitchen gadgets.)Charged gadgetsAs new parents, my wife and I heat up water a lot, whether its for baby formula or for our third cup of a caffeinated beverage to get us through the afternoon. We used to heat our water in a teapot on the stove the horror but after getting an electric kettle over the holidays, our lives have been forever changed. With this, the water heats up way faster, and the kettle turns itself off once the water is too hot, meaning it wont whistle through the house (and possibly wake the baby). Its the only kitchen gadget that has a permanent spot on our counters. Maybe Ill heat up some tea for myself right now. Jay Peters, news editorYnesoer automatic soap dispenser$20$2623% off$20$20 at Amazon (with onsite coupon)After realizing were not a family who likes to get their hands dirty while cooking (we leave that part to mixers and blenders), an automatic soap dispenser has become one of the most used devices in our kitchen. We opted for a cheap $25 option from Amazon that lets you adjust how much foaming soap is dispensed and lasts for a couple months between charges, but companies like Simplehuman sell pricier $80 versions wrapped in brushed metal or other fancy finishes that could better match your decor. We find we use less soap now that its always perfectly portioned out, and buying refills in bulk is much cheaper. Theres now one in every bathroom in our home. Andrew Liszewski, senior reporter$34$34 at AmazonI may take some heat for this, but anyone who tells you that frozen Junior Mints, M&Ms, or gasp Sno-Caps are the perfect companion for an at-home movie night is unequivocally wrong. Popcorn is the true film snack, and Prestos basic air popper has been my go-to in recent years for quickly whipping up large batches of the timeless treat. The PopLite doesnt require oil, nor do you need to shake or stir it like you do traditional stovetop methods. You just toss in the kernels, plug it in, and let the hot air do the work for you. Admittedly, its a little loud and bigger than Id like for a single-use appliance that sits in my pantry, but youd be hard-pressed to find a more foolproof method of making popcorn. Well, unless youre into prefab bags of Orville Redenbacher. Even I cant fault you for that. Brandon Widder, senior commerce editorInstant Pot Duo Crisp$100$17041% off$100$100 at AmazonFor the past few years, the Instant Pot has been a staple in my kitchen. From making rice to slow-cooking stews and even frying up chicken, it can do just about anything. The best part is that the Instant Pot can cook most recipes in a fraction of the time it would take in the oven or on the stove. Rice, for example, takes just six minutes to cook (not counting the amount of time it takes to build pressure), and theres no fussing with covering the pot or adjusting the heat. Sometimes, its just easier and much less stressful to let the Instant Pot take the wheel. Emma Roth, news writer$60$60 at BraunHow often do you blend things? Is it never? Maybe the reason is that taking out, assembling, and cleaning up after a normal blender is just way too much work. Do you know how many sauces Ive thickened since getting an immersion blender? This thing is small, quick to set up, and you can mostly clean it with just a blast under the faucet. Youre going to blend so many things. Jacob Kastrenakes, executive editorNinja Fit single-serve blender$60$7014% off$60$60 at Amazon$60 at TargetMy wife and I bought this small blender to make ourselves smoothies and protein shakes. Its now used to make purees for our baby. Cest la vie. Antonio G. Di Benedetto, reviewerTyphur InstaProbe Core$0A meat thermometer is essential in my kitchen, and I havent found one as easy to use as the Typhur InstaProbe. I just flip and probe, and then I have a temperature reading in seconds theres no need to press any buttons or fiddle with any settings. Ive used it for well over a year and havent had to change its batteries once; it always just works when I pull it out of the drawer (not the case with other digital alternatives Ive tried). Its also waterproof, so its easy to clean. Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, reviewerOne of the first things I did when I got my own place was purchase a food chopper. Perhaps puritan chefs will disagree with my methods, but this saves me so much time. I like to make tikka masala, which requires dicing ginger. If youve ever tried to dice ginger, you know that a food chopper would come in handy. This one did break recently, so Ill probably replace it with a fancier one. Kylie Robison, senior AI reporterSpreading knives are fantastic, especially if you make as many sandwiches as I do. The broad, flat blade is perfect for spreading peanut butter, cream cheese, or whatever, and the serrated edge is sharp enough for removing crusts and slicing bagels. The one I used growing up was a Cutco, a relic of my dads brief, unsuccessful stint as a knife salesman. This is not that knife. That knife costs $94 today, which feels like a bit much even if the one my parents have is still in great shape after 45 years so I got this Wsthof instead. The handle isnt quite as comfortable, but its a quarter of the price, so Ill live. Nathan Edwards, senior reviews editor$8$8 at AmazonMy partner and I have the unfortunate habit of buying interesting foodstuffs with the intention of eventually using them and then finding them in the back of the fridge two months later, growing something, well, interesting. To try and track what weve refrigerated, we tried all sorts of phone and tablet apps, but in the end, what finally worked was a simple, inexpensive, and thin magnetic whiteboard. It sticks to the door of the refrigerator, along with some dry markers, and now we record what entrees and side dishes are in the fridge. As each is consumed, the entry gets erased. Its a simple solution, and its not perfect. We still occasionally find a scientific experiment blooming in the back of the fridge, but its made us a lot less likely to waste food. Barbara Krasnoff, reviews editorI never realized how much joy I could get from a grater until my partner and I picked up a Microplane last year. Whether Im zesting lemons or creating big, pillowy clouds of grated parmesan for my pasta, the Microplane is an absolute pleasure to use. We still keep a big, blunt box grater around for the occasional vegetable, but the Microplanes sharper blades are better for absolutely everything else. Its not just us, either weve since gifted this twice, to rave reviews. And if you know me in real life, then Im afraid its only a matter of time before a Microplane comes your way, too. Dominic Preston, news editorIts kind of weird how much I like our Gripstics. Bag of chips open? Quick, grab a Gripstic. Kids vibing between two different cereals this week? A well-placed Gripstic will ensure they dont get all squishy. Tiny package of chocolate chips you used for a recipe that is now kind of open in your cupboard for who knows how long? Just fold the top over, slide a Gripstic on it the small blue one, thank you and stop worrying so much. I dont know about you or your familys shopping and eating habits, but try as we might to shop on the outside walls of the grocery store, we inevitably come home with many products packaged in single-use plastic bags. That in and of itself is a frustration, only compounded by those same products going bad if theyre not stored properly. The Gripstics are a simple solution to this universal problem, and one that Im certain has paid for itself many times over. Christopher Grant, group publisher, The Verge and PolygonPretty much every meal I cook includes garlic, so I genuinely dont know why it took me so long to get a simple garlic press. But ever since I threw one in the cart absentmindedly on a recent IKEA run, its become one of my most-used kitchen tools. I still have to peel the garlic, which I find interminably annoying, but I havent had to slice or mince garlic since adding it to my utensil drawer. The press turns the garlic into a kind of mush, and its not consistent in the pieces it makes (sometimes larger slivers of garlic get caught around the edges of the press), but for my needs, which is mostly just tossing garlic into a saut pan or a soup, its a dream. Kristen Radtke, creative directorI love a humble piece of bread and butter, but I hate spreading cold, hard butter on bread. Luckily, I havent had to since June 2023, when I finally got an airtight ceramic butter dish to store room temperature butter indefinitely. Am I recommending you do the same? No Im not prepared to debate anyone on the science behind keeping butter from spoiling. (The FDA says it can be left at room temperature for only one to two days.) All I will say is that the combination of salted butter, an airtight container, and a pair of kids who help me go through it one well-buttered grilled cheese sandwich at a time, has been more than enough to address my own fears. There are many options like the small Sweese that I use. It just happened to be the first Amazon pick I didnt return, because it was the first that fit a single block of Kerrygold almost perfectly. Sean Hollister, senior editorDreamfarm Fluicer$13$1513% off$13$14 at Dreamfarm$13 at AmazonMy mom bought me this strange-looking juicer. I was skeptical at first, but I love how it folds flat so that it doesnt catch on the shallow drawer that I store my kitchen spatulas in. And, of course, it works well as a juicer and is pretty easy to clean. Helen Havlak, publisher, The VergeOnce you get a set of narrow measuring spoons, youll never go back. Rather than having to carefully pour a teaspoon or tablespoon of spice into a round measuring spoon that doesnt fit through the neck of your spice jar, you can just scoop directly from the jar. I absolutely love mine for recipes that require a lot of different spices. This stainless steel set from King Arthur Baking feels solid and has held up well for me despite frequent trips through the dishwasher over the last five years. Helen Havlak, publisher, The VergeIf youre a backyard chicken owner (or live in Europeor Asia), this elegant countertop egg holder is an excellent way to display your ladies efforts and have easy access to eggs. The Hovico Egg Skelters metallic spiral design pushes the oldest eggs to the end so you can use them first. Its then easy to add the newly laid (or purchased) ones to the top. As a bonus, it doubles as a nice decorative piece for your kitchen counter. (Note: fresh, unwashed eggs do not need to be refrigerated as they have a natural coating.) Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, reviewerWe have a drawer full of silicon spatulas in our kitchen that I use exclusively for flipping eggs and nothing else. For any other cooking task, I use my beloved wooden spoon. I love that its firm but doesnt scratch ceramic pots and pans, and there is nothing better for deglazing a pan than a wooden spoon, which perfectly scrapes up all the delicious brown bits of a sear after you add a little vinegar or alcohol. While my other spatulas and spoons have broken or the silicone has begun to tear, my wooden spoon is almost indestructible. Bury me with it. Kristen Radtke, creative directorSee More:

  • Nickelodeons next Avatar animated series is finally coming together
    www.theverge.com
Rumours about the next mainline Avatar series have been circulating ever since Nickelodeon announced that Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko were returning to lead Avatar Studios. But now, we finally know a bit more about where the franchise is heading after The Legend of Korra.Today, Nickelodeon announced that the Avatar saga (which began with The Last Airbender) will continue with Avatar: Seven Havens, a new 2D animated series co-created by Konietzko and DiMartino and executive produced by Ethan Spaulding (Mike Tyson Mysteries) and Sehaj Sethi (The Winchesters). No casting or potential release windows have been teased, but the network shared that Seven Havens story will be told over the course of 2 seasons consisting of 13-half-hour-long episodes each.Seven Havens will introduce a new earthbending Avatar who is seen as a threat to the world because of her powers. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilizations last strongholds collapse, according to Nickelodeon. The shows announcement comes just a little under a year after the premieres of Netflixs live-action The Last Airbender adaptation that Konietzko and DiMartino bowed out of in 2020 after two years of production due to creative differences. The Last Airbender showrunner Albert Kim similarly parted ways with the series after its first season, and Netflix brought on Jabbar Raisani and Christine Boylan to oversee the shows next chapter.Though Netflixs Avatar project is its own thing separate from what Avatar Studios is working on, there might be some narrative tissue connecting Seven Havens story with Nickelodeons upcoming movie focused on Aang and his friends in the time between The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. But that wont become clear until Nickelodeon decides to share more.

  • The Monkey Post-Credits Scene Check-In (No Spoilers)
    www.ign.com
Do you want to know if The Monkey has any post-credits scenes? Well tell you right here: There are no extra scenes after the credits of the film, but there is a special surprise worth sticking around for.Be sure to check back on Friday for full spoilers for The Monkey.Riding off the high of last years horror hit Longlegs, writer-director Osgood Perkins is at it again with The Monkey, an adaptation of a Stephen King short story about a toy monkey that causes all kinds of horrific situations. Produced by horror maestro James Wan, and endorsed by King himself as batshit insane, Perkins The Monkey is full of hilarious, gory, memorable tragedy. The thing is, humor and horror are Siamese twins, King recently told IGNs Tom Jorgensen. They're very close. I think that it stops being funny when it starts being you.King compares the film to more like a Creepshow or Tales From the Crypt rather than a straight horror movie. Oz [Perkins] is right when he says that the deaths are like Wile E. Coyote, he says of The Monkeys often explosive murders. Man, there are a couple of things in this movie that just made me howl. I mean, I just sort of hate myself for howling, but I howled nonetheless.Theo James stars in the dual role of twin brothers Hal and Bill Shelburn (with young actor Christian Convery doing a yeomans job playing the adolescent versions of the characters in flashback). After stumbling upon an old-fashioned toy monkey, the brothers quickly realize that every time the cursed thing is activated, someone, somewhere, dies. Despite their best efforts to get away from the monkey, or bend it to their will at least, a lot of people bite it a lot of the time. Spectacularly.PlayDoes The Monkey Have a Post-Credits Scene? As noted above, The Monkey doesnt have any scenes after or during the credits, but there is reportedly a special surprise awaiting fans of Perkins' work. While Neon didn't attach any bonus scenes to versions of the film that screened at festivals or for critics, Total Film reports that the wide release includes a teaser trailer for Perkins' next horror film, The Keeper. So it's worth sticking around after the credits, even if there's no post-credits scene for The Monkey itself. We'll have more on The Monkey on Friday, including Toms full spoiler chat with King, Perkins, and Wan, so be sure to check back then!

  • Does Disney+ Have a Free Trial in 2025?
    www.ign.com
For 100+ years through the evolution of animated entertainment, Disney has been providing some the most memorable, popular classics to be enjoyed for generations. Since November 2019, all of these films and projects that Disney now owns can be streamed to any device of your choosing via a Disney+ subscription. As with most streaming services these days, it is normally an option to try out the service for a set amount of time. Disney+ does not currently offer any sort of free trial for new subscribers, however. The company was one of the first streaming subscription services to make this change, with the free trial being taken away back in 2020. The Disney+ help center now simply states that there are no free trials available. Can You Get Disney+ for Free in Other Ways? While Disney+ does not directly offer a free trial of their services, Verizon offers customers who have Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate service a free Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle as a myPlan perk for free for six months. After six months, subscribers will have to pay $10 monthly to maintain service. This is a great way for viewers who already have access to Verizon services to make the most of it, providing multiple streaming bundle options much like Hulu does. Disney+ BundlesGet the Disney+, Hulu, Max Streaming Bundle$16.99/month with ads, $29.99/month ad-free.See it at MaxWhile it definitely doesn't eliminate subscription costs, one of the more budget-friendly ways to manage your subscriptions is by checking out bundles of your preferred services. The new Disney+ bundle with Max and Hulu starts at $16.99/month, while the Disney+ and Hulu bundle starts at $10.99/month. If you're already paying for Hulu or Max, these bundles are likely your "cheapest" options for picking up a Disney+ subscription. What Disney+ Alternatives Have Free Trials?Though it may seem that free streaming trials are going out of style these days, there are still a handful of streaming options that you can try out for a period of time. • Marvel Just Decided the Fate of Nova in the MCU
    www.denofgeek.com
Paraphrasing an unidentfied source, Deadline reports that these series never actually got a full greenlight and were just in early development. Originally, Marvel approached series development in much the same way it handled features: a slate was announced, and what was teased was more or less what got made, Deadline explained. A couple of years ago, senior leadership decided to retool the development process, as they were also revamping their new Daredevil series, Born Again. In other words, Marvel had been in the habit of putting shows in development based on comic book properties that had crossover potential, but not necessarily general audience appeal. That explanation illuminates the companys decisions regarding Nova, Terror, Inc., and Strange Academy. Nova would have focused on a fan-favorite character, whose scenes from the 2006 Annihilation storyline are regularly shared online. Strange Academy, a relatively new comic series about young magic users, had potential for Harry Potter-style stories in the MCU. And the Z-list concept Terror, Inc. would have worked as a holiday special, not unlike Werewolf by Night. Its not hard to see how these projects could have ended up on screen. But its also not hard to imagine viewers skipping over the series, as the MCU has lost the prestige it once enjoyed after saturating the market with a barrage of less popular characters. Furthermore, none of these concepts have particularly strong ties to the Avengers, at least not the MCU variety, which remains the biggest draw for casual viewers. The promotional campaigns for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* feel like write-offs for Marvel, as if theyre happy to see any return on those investments at all. Likewise, Marvel Television and Marvel Animation still have Ironheart, Marvel Zombies, Eyes of Wakanda, and Wonder Man coming, projects that have been in development since before the company retooled its approach. Time will tell if they attract Disney+ subscribers. But at the same time, its clear that the studio is putting quite a bit of care and attention into The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hoping to repeat the success of Deadpool & Wolverine and Avengers: Endgame. In theory, abandoning riskier projects like Nova and Strange Academy will allow Marvel to focus resources on stronger material, making series such as season two of X-Men 97 as compelling as possible.Because if theres one thing Deadpool & Wolverine has shown, people arent experiencing superhero fatigue as much as theyre experiencing bad superhero movie and TV series fatigue.

  • Reacher Season 3 Just Teased One of Reachers Biggest Fights
    www.denofgeek.com
Features Reacher Season 3 Just Teased One of Reachers Biggest FightsReacher may have met his match with Paulie this season, and the series is already giving us a taste of the bigger fight to come.By Brynna Arens | February 20, 2025 | | Photo: Jasper Savage | PrimeThis article contains spoilers through season 3 episode 3 of Reacher and mild spoilers for Lee Childs novel Persuader.Reacher has returned for a third season, taking the lone wolf hero on yet another thrilling adventure ripped from the pages of Lee Childs novels. This time, the Prime Video series is adapting Persuader, a novel that follows Reacher as he infiltrates a crime familys operation hoping to find a dangerous man from his past. As readers of this novel know, part of Reachers journey sees him go up against a man even larger than his own formidable size, and just as the book does, the series has already given us a taste of what this fight might look like. From the moment that Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and Paulie (Olivier Richters) meet at the Becks, they appear to be at odds. Paulie seems intent on proving that hes the bigger man (literally), and Reacher isnt afraid to goad him a little. In the second episode of the season, Truckin, Reacher and Paulie end up in the mansions home gym together. Paulie challenges him to a bench pressing contest, but Reacher convinces him that a true test of strength lies in Bavarian arm wrestling.Reacher tells him to sit on a bench, hold out his arm in traditional arm wrestling fashion, and then put his hand in a fist, facing himself. Then Reacher stands in front of him and tries to pull his arm down. Despite giving it his all, Reacher has a hard time keeping their arms even let alone gaining any headway against Paulies strength. However, Reacher lets his hand go at just the right time, the momentum causing Paulie to punch himself in the face. Reacher of course insists that his hand slipped, but Paulie isnt having it. Paulie stands and looks ready to kick Reachers ass, when Duke (Donald Sales) comes in just in time to get him to stand down. This scene is not only fun to watch who doesnt want to see two absolute units square off against each other it also gives us a taste of the actual fight to come. Whereas Paulie may have Reacher beat as far as size goes, Reacher knows how to fight smarter, not harder, and this scene proves that. When the big fight comes later on in the season, the winner isnt necessarily going to be determined by muscle size, its more likely to be determined by who can hold out the longest. And if we know anything about Reacher by now, its that hes a master of patience and playing the long game. But that doesnt mean that the fight will be easy. Just because Reacher has a chance of outsmarting Paulie doesnt mean that he wont still be fighting for his life. Theres a reason that fans have been excited about this fight since Persuader was announced as this seasons adaptation. Were used to seeing Reacher pummel bad guys with relative ease. This is the first time in the show that were going to see him go up against someone physically bigger than he is, so you know its going to be one hell of a fight to watch. With both an intellectual foil in Francis Xavier Quinn (Brian Tee) and a physical foil in Paulie, Reacher certainly has his work cut out for him this season. Fans of the book may have an idea of whats in store for our favorite wandering hero, but all well say is that everyone watching is in for a wild ride. The first three episodes of Reacher season 3 are available to stream on Prime Video now. New episodes premiere Thursdays, culminating with the finale on March 27.
