Clap SlowlyNetflix must have liked Amazon's Sifu episode of Secret Level, as it's acquired the rights to the film adaptation of the stylish brawler, bringing a writer aboard with itStill no release date, though.Image credit: Sloclap, Kepler Interactive News by Oisin Kuhnke Contributor Published on Feb. 22, 2025 That Sifu film that's been gestating for a while finally has another update, and it appears that you can now expect it to release on Netflix.Way back in 2022, it was announced that Slopclap's martial arts brawler Sifu would be getting a live-action film adaptation with John Wick writer Derek Kolstad in the director's chair. Not much has been shared since then, but a new report from Deadline has offered up some pretty big updates, namely that Netflix has joined the project, tapping T.S. Nowlin to pen the screenplay. Nowlin doesn't have a huge number of credits under his belt, but he did write those Maze Runner films from like a decade ago, as well as the 2022 Netflix film The Adam Project, which did have some big names like Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, and Jennifer Garner attached. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. On top of that, insiders apparently told Deadline that John Wick director Chad Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment banner have joined Story Kitchen as producers on the projects - Stahelski is expected to produce alongside Jason Spritz and Alex Young at 87Eleven Entertainment, with Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg doing the same from Story Kitchen. Sloclaps Jordan Layani and Pierre Tarno are also attached as executive producers. No exact story details were shared about the project, but presumably it follows a similar plot to the original game. For those that haven't played out, it follows the child of a martial arts school's sifu, i.e. master, who is seeking revenge for his father's death. The core loop sees him going off to fight some baddies, but thanks to a magical talisman, he comes back to life, albeit a bit older than he was the last time. We got a glimpse of that outside of the original game in last year's Prime Video series Secret Level, so maybe someone at Netflix liked it enough to jump on the film version. There's no release date for the film just yet, so you'll just have to wait until it makes some more progress.

  • The Latest Episode Of Yellowjackets Includes A Terrifying Secret Message
    www.forbes.com
YellowjacketsCredit: StarzOne of the great things about the first season of Yellowjackets was just how incredibly creepy and mysterious everything was. (Spoiler warning). The show just oozed creepiness and hinted at so many unsettling things, like the Man With No Eyes and what exactly was going on with Tai, or the creepy old dead guy in the attic of the cabin. Season 2 really dropped the ball when it came to maintaining that same level of tension and mystery and fear, especially during the modern timeline. But Im starting to walk a dangerous path in Season 3. For the first time in a long time, I have hope that the shows creators are nudging the story back in the right direction. Hope is dangerous. Its what leads to heartbreak. But the latest episode felt more like the first season than the second, and that makes me happy, even if I remain deeply skeptical.Theres one very cool thing about this episode that you might not have noticed. At one point, adult Tai and Van are watching some VHS tapes when a commercial for Ozzies Homemade Ice Cream Parlor pops up. In it, we see the Man With No Eyes. Its possibly the most unsettling commercial of all time. Very little can make me not want ice cream, but this sure does.In any case, the ad includes a phone number for the fictional business: 1-732-858-5242. If you call it, youll hear a deeply disturbing message. I wont try to transcribe this message because its pretty hard to make a lot of it out, but you can hop over to this reddit thread to read what people are gleaning from it or this thread to hear the audio. Theres a section of the message that is in Morse Code, and reddit sleuths have already run it through an analyzer. The result? The screams are not what they seem. This is a reference to the weird shrieking sounds weve been hearing this season. Its also not very helpful since the screams dont seem to be anything at all or, rather, I have no idea what theyre supposed to be. Still, its pretty neat that theyre including this kind of ARG content in the new season. Yellowjackets is a Lost-like series, and that was a show notorious for ARG bread-crumbs and easter eggs. I hope we see more like this in Yellowjackets, and more episodes like this one that actually make me excited to see where all of this is going, and hopeful that they have a destination in mind.

  • 3 Tips To Improve Your Critical Thinking Skills In The Age Of AI
    www.forbes.com
'Find out who you can practice thinking with' is the third tip to improve your critical thinking. ... [+] Choosing another human over AI is at the heart of this tip. (Photo by Yu Ruidong/China News Service)Visual China Group via Getty ImagesAs in the two previous editions of World Economic Forums Future of Jobs Survey, analytical thinking is the top core skill for employers in 2025. But do you know why? And what do you do to maintain and improve your analytical and critical thinking?Perhaps you think its only a matter of time before AI thinks faster and better than you anyway? If so, its time to think again. Here are three tips on where to focus:1. Focus On Learning How To ThinkAnalytical thinking is not the only thinking skill that employers consider to be core competencies for their workforce in 2025. Creative thinking ranks fourth on the list of core skills. And at number 12 we find systems thinking. But while it may be useful to define and distinguish between different thinking skills when surveying what employers find important, it does not improve your ability to think. In fact, it can weaken your ability to think for yourself if you focus too much on the analytical, creative, or other aspects of thinking that you are told are important.Already in 1952, the German philosopher, Martin Heidegger said that the most thought-provoking in our thought-provoking time is that we are still not thinking. And according to a new study of The Impact of Generative AI on Critical Thinking, the AI revolution has only made it harder for us to think for ourselves. So, instead of focusing on the analytical or creative part of thinking, focus on the thinking part. Once you are able to think, you will also be able to think analytically, creatively, or whatever the situation you find yourself in calls for.2. Focus On What There Is To Think AboutThinking may sound like the easy part, like something we all know how to do. But if thinking is easy, why did Heidegger say that we are still not thinking? And why do knowledge workers report a reduction in their cognitive effort when using AI?In his What Calls for Thinking? lecture, Heidegger suggested that the reason we are still not thinking is that we are too busy acting. Prevailing man, he said, has for centuries acted too much and thought too little.Heidegger was well aware of the general opinion that what is lacking is action, not thought. He even acknowledged that the state of the world seems to demand that "man should act without delay, instead of making speeches at conferences and international conventions and never getting beyond proposing ideas and what ought to be.But he also pointed out that action without thought is driven by the wrong things. Many people today take the view that they are doing great honor to something by finding it interesting, he said. However, 'interesting is fleeting. It is the sort of thing that can freely be regarded as indifferent the next moment, and be displaced by something else, which then concerns us just as little as what went before.Acting without thinking makes us focus on the wrong things said the German philosopher Martin ... [+] Heidegger. Photography of Heidegger during a discussion in Tuebingen in 1961. (Photo by Imagno)Getty ImagesAs opposed to acting on what is interesting, Heidegger said we should act by giving heed to what there is to think about. What this means is simply: Stay focused. Instead of getting distracted by all the interesting things competing for your attention, focus on thinking about and acting on what calls for thinking that is, the problems that have long-term impact and cant be solved with a quick AI prompt.3. Focus On Who You Can Practice Thinking WithYou can think about it like this: If the interesting problem youre dealing with today is different from the interesting problem you were dealing with yesterday, or the one you will be dealing with tomorrow, there is no need for you or anyone else to think about it. It can and probably soon will be solved faster and better by AI.But if youre dealing with a problem thats not going to go away not today, not tomorrow, maybe not ever then youre dealing with something that calls for thinking. And if thats the case, youre relying on other people as thinking partners, not AI.Even Alan Turing, who laid the foundation for the AI we know today, made it clear that AI is not designed to think. In fact, he explicitly said that he believed the question Can machines think? was too meaningless to deserve discussion.Thinking in the sense Heidegger spoke of is not a skill that can be replicated or taken over by AI. Why? Because AI doesnt have the kind of problems that call for thinking.AI doesnt care what core skills employers are looking for in 2025. It doesnt worry about knowledge workers reporting a reduction in their cognitive effort. And its not afraid of being driven by the wrong things.AI doesnt need three tips on where to focus to get the top core skill in 2025 right, because it doesnt pay a price if it gets it wrong. We do. You and I. The humans who cannot do several things at the same time and therefore have to choose how, on what, and with whom we spend our time and energy.Making the wrong choices can cost us humans dearly in terms of lost job opportunities, personal development and ultimately quality of life. Thats why we care about top core skills and getting the right things right. And thats why we can only practice thinking with other humans who care about and fear the same things we do.Critical Thinking Will Always Be Your Top SkillDefining and distinguishing between different thinking skills does not improve your ability to think. But defining and distinguishing between what is and isnt important does. In fact, the ability to see why something and someone is more important than something and someone else is what thinking is all about. And why critical thinking will always be your top core skill, whether reflected in future of jobs surveys or not.Focusing on how to think, what there is to think about, and who you can practice thinking with helps you and the people around you spend your time and energy on the things that matter most. And thats exactly what employers, not to mention the world, need: Humans who help each other develop and act on their values.Critical thinking is closely connected to the basic limitations of being human. So improving your critical thinking will not only help you be interesting to employers in 2025, it will also help you stay human in the age of AI.

Facepalm: Nvidia's RTX 50 series has experienced one of the most unpopular launches in recent memory, with moderate-at-best performance gains, severe supply constraints, and dramatically inflated prices from board partners. To make matters worse, some customers have begun reporting units with defective components, leading to slightly lower performance. The few lucky users who acquired Nvidia's flagship RTX 5090 soon after its initial launch should run GPU-Z to check if all 176 of the graphics card's ROP units are functioning properly. Some customers recently complained upon receiving GPUs with only 168 enabled, decreasing performance by up to five percent depending on the workload. Whether the problem is related to software or hardware remains unclear.Raster Operations Pipeline (ROP) units perform one of the final steps in the rasterization process, which calculates onscreen pixels. Nvidia's white paper on the RTX 50 series' Blackwell architecture states that the 5090 features 176 ROPs, which TechPowerUp's GPU-Z software confirms. However, a user on the outlet's forums noticed that GPU-Z detected only 168 ROPs on their Zotac RTX 5090 Solid model. TechPowerUp confirmed the discrepancy when testing that model, observing minor performance drops depending on the game despite maintaining the same clock speed as GPUs from different board partners.Elden Ring, when modded to remove its 60fps frame rate cap, saw the largest divergence, dropping by 5.6% to 174fps from the 184fps observed in Nvidia's Founders Edition reference model. However, other games like Starfield and Doom Eternal, with ray tracing enabled in the latter, experienced virtually no degradation. // Related StoriesFurthermore, the problem isn't limited to Zotac graphics cards, nor does it extend to all Zotac units. Following the initial report, other users on Twitter and the Chiphell forums shared similar GPU-Z reports from MSI, Gigabyte, and Founders Edition models. Some also seem to have Zotac versions with all 176 ROPs enabled. It's speculated that the problem stems from a hardware issue rather than software as reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows, and changing the GPU BIOS do not fix the problem. Trusted leaker MEGAsizeGPU claims that a defective batch of GB202 processors is to blame, suggesting that impacted units might need to be replaced. In a statement sent to The Verge, Nvidia confirmed that it discovered an issue affecting less than half a percent of RTX 5090, 5090D, and 5070 Ti GPUs, which shipped with at least one ROP missing. This can affect gaming performance by around four percent, but AI and compute performance are unaffected. The company has corrected the manufacturing glitch and advises impacted customers to contact board vendors. The RTX 5090 and 5090D are the only GPUs confirmed to be missing ROPs thus far. Some users became concerned after their 5080s reported "112 out of 128" units, but 112 is the correct number of ROPs for that card.

  • Intel says 18A process is ready, tape-out confirmed for the first half of 2025
    www.techspot.com
Why it matters: As Intel's chip design and foundry businesses face mounting pressure that could jeopardize the company's future, much is riding on the success of its upcoming 18A node. As Intel finalizes its latest semiconductor process, 2025 will be a decisive year for its efforts to legitimize its foundry division and regain competitiveness against TSMC and Samsung. Intel has announced that its 18A process node is "ready" for third-party clients, with tape-out design finalizations set to begin in the first half of this year. The node is expected to introduce advanced semiconductor features ahead of products featuring TSMC's N2 process, which is set to debut in 2026.Short for 18 Angstroms (or 1.8nm), 18A promises a 30 percent increase in chip density and a 15 percent improvement in performance per watt compared to Intel 3. The company plans to use the process for its upcoming Panther Lake laptop processors and Clearwater Forest server CPUs, both of which are expected to launch before the end of the year. One of 18A's most significant innovations is backside power delivery through PowerVia. By moving coarse-pitch metals and bumps to the die's rear and implementing nanoscale through-silicon vias, Intel aims to improve ISO power performance by four percent and increase standard cell utilization by five to ten percent.Another key advancement is RibbonFET, Intel's take on gate-all-around transistor technology. This design enables finer control over electrical currents, reducing power leakage an increasingly critical challenge as chips become smaller and more densely packed.TMSC is also readying a gate-all-around architecture solution for its 2nm N2 node, but volume production isn't expected to begin until late 2025. The first consumer products featuring N2 likely won't arrive until at least mid-2026, and TSMC plans to implement backside power delivery with its A16 node that same year.A recent report comparing 18A and N2 suggests that Intel's node may offer higher performance, while TSMC's achieves greater density. After trailing its competitors for years, Intel has a chance of providing semiconductors that could outperform TSMC's in certain tasks and reach the market sooner. If 18A is successful, it would provide Intel's foundry business with a much-needed victory amid deep financial losses that have fueled speculation about a potential breakup or sale. // Related StoriesThe company recently reported a staggering $13 billion loss for 2024, while TSMC posted an operating profit of $41 billion. Given Intel's financial struggles and growing concerns over domestic U.S. chip supplies, some have even speculated that TSMC could play a role in stabilizing Intel's foundries.
