  • Former Nintendo Sales Lead Claims Retailers Know "Nothing" About Switch 2 Price
    www.nintendolife.com
Image: NintendoSwitch 2 placeholder prices have been popping up all over the internet in recent weeks, so is there any truth to these retailer listings? Speaking on the latest episode of Kit & Krysta Podcast, a former Nintendo sales lead has apparently "set the record straight".When asked if retailers are in the loop about the price of Nintendo's new and highly anticipated next-generation hybrid hardware, he claimed these stores know "nothing" and "certainly not price". Here's the full exchange:Kit: "Something that's happening a lot now is like some retailer will have some listing 'Switch 2 $400' and people will be like 'oh, confirmed' - what do the retailers know at this point in the game?"Sean: "Nothing, nothing...certainly not price, almost certainly not any kind of launch date other than maybe a quarter, it always makes me laugh to see these articles like 'Walmart Canada says the price is going to be this' Walmart Canada is the last people that are gonna know."These comments follow some listings surfacing on certain retailer websites earlier this month suggesting a Switch 2 price could be cheaper than expected. Analysts have also chimed in with some estimates, and these rumours and predictions will likely continue until the system's price is officially confirmed.Nintendo is holding a 'Switch 2 Direct' broadcast on 2nd April 2025, which will provide a "closer look" at the new system, so hopefully, there'll be some information about the price then. It's time for Switch 2What are your thoughts about the Switch 2 and how much it will cost? • Googles Chrome UpgradeWhy You Must Stop These Downloads
    www.forbes.com
New Chrome upgrade is coming soonGetty ImagesGoogles mission to tighten Android security continues, and a new leak suggests Chrome is being seconded to help. When released, this will help stop the scourge of malware that continues to plague Android users, maintaining the gap to iPhone. As spotted by MSPowerUser, Google is testing an APK malware check in Chrome Canary for Android, warning users about harmful downloads. This essentially does the job usually left to Play Protect, and while the feature is in telemetry-only mode for some users but will expand to all with Safe Browsing enabled. We have already seen Chrome and Play Protect begin working more closely to defend Android with download warnings reduced when Play protect is running, but this is the first time weve seen Play Protect hand over some of its usual responsibilities. The new flag in Canary reads check the APK downloads on Android for malware. The Malicious APK downloads check, and when enabled, Chrome will scan the APK files you download on your Android device to see if they contain any known malware. If something suspicious is found, Chrome will warn you before you install the app.New Chrome upgrade for Android usersMSPowerUserAs Android Authority puts it, Chrome for Android could soon have your back when you download shady apps. Its a good move, albeit its unclear whether this identifies malware that otherwise would be missed out just makes the processing balance more efficient, essentially stopping the install at source.Per Android Authority, this would be a welcome layer of protection for Android phones as Play Protect typically scans these files before you install them. Play Protect also periodically scans your installed apps to make sure theyre all safe. So being able to scan APK files as theyre downloaded would be very convenient. In my view while this is positive, its not the main show. The focus now should be the live, on-device threat protection that has been introduced with Android 15 and which promises to flag suspicious behavior and even permission abuse, without relying on centrally collated signals to warn that an install might be dangerous.Suffice to say, if Chrome warns you a download might be dangerous, do not take the risk. All told, this is just the latest initiative from Google as Android narrows that gap to iPhone. Its clear that with Android 15s security advances and now Android 16 promising more of the same, that gap has never been smaller.

  • Microsoft Windows WarningDo Not Install This Critical Update
    www.forbes.com
New attack warning for Windows usersNurPhoto via Getty ImagesA critical new warning this week, as a dangerous new browser update attacks Microsoft Windows users in the wild. As ever, this attack deploys social engineering to lure users into the simple click theyll quickly regret. Heres what to look for.The warning comes by way of Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, per Cyber Security News which picked up on the research. The attackers have injected malicious JavaScript into legitimate websites that will warn users they have an outdated browser module in Chrome, Edge or Firefox and need to update. These lures, Cyber Security News says, leverage realistic branding and urgency warnings, such as Critical Security Update Required. By downloading and running the script, the malware will fetch the NetSupport RAT code it needs to attack your PC, including an executable that enables remote device control, a library enabling data exfiltration and also Windows Registry modification scripts for persistence, making it hard to kill the process when its up and running on your machine. The researchers also warn that in recent campaigns observed on February 18, 2025, NetSupport RAT delivered a secondary payload: StealC, a credential-stealing malware. That does exactly what is says on the tin, and hunts for key login data and bypasses. The researchers warn the SmartApeSG campaign underscores the persistent threat of social engineering coupled with fileless attack techniques. By exploiting trusted software update mechanisms and Windows internals, threat actors achieve prolonged network access while evading conventional defenses. The following mitigation strategics have been provided:Block domains associated with SmartApeSG infrastructure (e.g., poormet[.]com, cinaweine[.]shop) using threat intelligence feeds.Deploy signatures for detecting malicious JavaScript patterns (e.g., long Base64 strings, asynchronous HTTP requests).Monitor for anomalous process relationships, such as mfpmp.exe spawning network connections or writing to %APPDATA%.Restrict PowerShell execution policies and log script activity to identify encoded command sequences.Train employees to recognize fake update lures, emphasizing that browsers auto-update and never require manual downloads.I have warned about the threat from fake browser installs and updates on multiple occasions, and this latest report clearly shows that the risk is only getting worse. It is now more critical than ever for users to only install or update browsers and browser modules through the traditional means.Use your browser to check for updates, do not click on popups or website links however legitimate they seem. And restart your browser afterward to make sure it installs. All browsers should be set to download updates automatically. Chrome update details here. Edge update details here. • Here's how federal workers are responding to the DOGE productivity-tracking email
    www.businessinsider.com
Federal workers were emailed Saturday with a request to list productivity details from their week.Elon Musk said that those who don't reply by 11:59 p.m. on Monday will have forfeited their role. Many federal employees told BI they feel frustrated by the request. Some have already been told not to respond.Several federal workers across agencies told Business Insider they're frustrated and scared for their jobs after Elon Musk said they must email their work accomplishments or risk losing their jobs. Some say they're skeptical of the ramifications others have been told not to respond. The productivity-tracking email, sent Saturday afternoon from an HR account in the Office of Personnel Management, followed President Donald Trump's instruction to Musk to "get more aggressive" in reducing the size of the federal bureaucracy.mass firings, funding pauses, and work stoppages in departments and agencies across the federal government.Musk, who's closely linked to the DOGE office, teased that the email would be forthcoming in a post on X Saturday, writing: "Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.""It's terrible," one Department of Education employee whose work has been slowed by executive orders and layoffs said. "It feels like harassment, especially sending it out on a Saturday and boasting about it in advance on X so that everyone could be checking their email afternoon in anticipation of its arrival."Another federal employee from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they "can only imagine how many people they'll fire based on the responses/non-responses to this."Another wondered "how much money is being wasted" on having federal employees respond to the email, while yet another questioned who would review the replies.Representatives for the White House and Office of Personnel Management did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider. Many of the federal workers who spoke with BI said that hours after the DOGE email had been sent, they had still not received any communication from their supervisors regarding how or whether to respond."No idea how to respond being as this is from outside our chain of command," one federal worker told BI.Others said they had been instructed by their union representatives or managers to wait for further direction before replying."Once again, agencies were caught off guard by these emails, just like the chaotic "Fork in the Road" email," the National Treasury Employees Union wrote in an email to its members, urging them not to respond until they receive further guidance. "This email is yet another attempt by the administration to scare hardworking civil servants who deliver for the American people every day. It is shameful. We will update you soon."The American Federation of Government Employees said in a notice to members that the union "strongly believes this email was sent illegitimately and that OPM lacks the authority to direct the assignment of work to agency employees in this manner.""We will formally request that OPM rescind the email and clarify under what authority it was issued," the AFGE email reads. "In the meantime, AFGE advises all federal employees to forward the email to their supervisor and seek guidance on whether and how to respond, including the type of information that can be disseminated to OPM."The productivity email that was sent to federal workers did not include Musk's comment on X that employees who did not respond by the Monday night deadline would be considered as having resigned. Several workers who saw his post said they wondered whether that would be possible or legal."I question whether them firing people based on a non response to this would be legal," the Department of Education employee said. "There are a number of agencies, like DOJ, which has attorney-client privilege, or DHS, which engages with national security topics, where people will surely be told by supervisors not to respond."Some of the federal workers who spoke to Business Insider had resolved not to respond. Others, disheartened by the aggressive funding and job cuts propelled by the DOGE office, said they had begun looking for other work even if they didn't believe they'd be fired.A member of the Department of Health and Human Services' Disaster Medical Assistance Team, part time disaster workers who respond to federal disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes, suggested they might resign either way."I have another job like the rest of us and I don't need this type of stress," the DMAT member said. "Maybe I'll just resign."The employee said they're part of a group of people that thrives "in stressful situations," but that the stress of having their job in limbo "is different."
