  • New European AI weather model to improve forecasts
    www.computerworld.com
The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) has made its new AI model, the Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System (AIFS), available to everyone free of charge. Medium-range weather forecasts are those that predict weather conditions for three to 15 days into the future.AIFS can provide detailed forecasts for wind, temperature and precipitation and, according to the Center, and should perform up to 20% better than todays modern physics-based models. The model will also be faster and consume a thousand times less energy.Traditional physics-based weather forecasts are made by solving physical equations, but these are only a simplification of the dynamics of the atmosphere. AI-driven models have an advantage because they can find more complex relationships and dynamic patterns directly from the data.

  • Wonder Woman Cancelled, Monolith Shutting Down Alongside Player First Games and WB Games San Diego
    gamingbolt.com
Following a report from Bloombergs Jason Schreier, Warner Bros. Games has confirmed to Kotaku via email that its shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games and WB Games San Diego. Monoliths Wonder Woman has also been cancelled. In its statement, the company said it had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. The decision to close Monolith, Player First Games and WB Games San Diego occurred after careful consideration. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent within them.Regarding Wonder Woman, the company hoped to offer the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately, this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monoliths storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans, developed by our world-class studios, and getting our games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.Reports of Wonder Womans troubled development appeared earlier this month, revealing that it was rebooted in early 2024. Its budget reportedly exceeded $100 million but struggled to coalesce. While noted to be years off from release, there was concern whether it would ever launch. As for Player First Games, it recently announced the end of service for MultiVersus in May. The platform fighter had a mixed reception after exiting open beta and contributed to a $100 million loss for WB Games. WB Games San Diego was established in 2019 to develop free-to-play mobile games, though nothing concrete emerged.

The delay was announced by Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan, who noted that the company is really excited about the progress, really excited where Playground are.The reason for the delay is to give Fable more time. Acknowledging that its not what fans may want to hear, What I want to assure people of, is that its definitely worth the wait. Duncan further progressed his unequivocal confidence in the development team, citing their success with the Forza Horizon series. The last two games [Forza Horizon 4 and 5] critically acclaimed, award-winning, beautiful, played great. And just what theyre bringing to Fable as a franchise, think of the visuals of what you expect of Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humor, and Playgrounds version of Albion so inspired by whats gone before with the franchise, but their take. He also called this the most beautifully realized version of Albion ever seen.So really excited about the plans and really excited about the future, and I want the community to understand that we do these things for the best of the games and the teams, and ultimately that results in the best games, or the best game for the community. As a reboot of Lionhead Studios action RPG series, Fable has been in the works for a long time. It was announced in 2020, though by 2021, it was discovered to have already been in development for at least four years. Rumors emerged about issues affecting the project before in-engine footage on the Xbox Series X was revealed in 2023.Microsoft announced a 2025 release window last year while providing another new trailer, and Eidos Montreal was later confirmed to be assisting in development.
