• Playful bubble-inspired stool will give you second thoughts about sitting on it
    www.yankodesign.com
When you just want to sit down to give your body some respite, the last thing youd want to see is a chair or bench that looks a little sus. After all, you wouldnt want to suddenly fall on the ground from an unstable or poorly designed structure. That is why, for the most part, chairs, stools, couches, and benches are designed with forms that exude stability and invite confidence, though you might see a few outliers here and there.Probably to both amaze and amuse, some furniture is made to evoke the opposite, making you wonder about the unconventional thought processes that led to those designs. Of course, none of these are designed to harm, though you might feel a bit dubious about the end result anyway. This stool, for example, at first glance looks like a smooth metal piece of furniture, but closer inspection would reveal a bubble-like seat that might pop at the slightest touch.Designer: Studio OloloooThis still is actually quite mischievous in more ways than one. That powder-coated aluminum appearance? Youd probably be surprised to find out that its actually all wood, with the identifying grains masked by silver paint. Even the ring that makes up the seat of the stool is also made out of wood, but if youve gotten that far, that will be the least of your surprises. The Bubble Stool takes its name from the game of blowing bubbles that delights toddlers to no end, at least until the novelty has worn off. Almost like the famous Balloon Dog by Jeff Koons, the four legs of the stool are shaped like cylinders with rounded ends. The aforementioned ring also has a tubular shape that joins the legs almost seamlessly, though youll definitely notice those seams if you look hard enough. The bubbliest part of the stool, however, is the center of the seat itself, made from an inflated thermoplastic polyurethane or TPU airbag. TPU is a material that is known for both its durability and elasticity and is commonly used in protective products like phone cases. Given its transparency, however, this TPU seat cushion will definitely make anyone wonder if its safe to sit on it all.The Bubble Stool inspires both curiosity and playfulness, just like how bubbles themselves capture the imagination of children. With none of the screws visible, you begin to wonder how the stool is even built, especially the TPU airbag that seems to just stick to the ring like magic. Of course, the chair is designed to be sat on, so it takes stability seriously, but it wont stop you from pausing to reconsider your choice to sit down even for a brief moment. The post Playful bubble-inspired stool will give you second thoughts about sitting on it first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Google experiments with AI-only search as competition heats up
    www.computerworld.com
Google has launched an experimental search mode that replaces traditional links with AI-generated summaries, as it ramps up efforts to integrate AI amid growing competition.Currently, Google Search displays AI Overviews, which provide summaries above traditional search results. The new AI Mode expands on AI Overviews with improved reasoning and multimodal capabilities, allowing it to handle more complex queries, Google said in a blog post. You can ask anything on your mind and get a helpful AI-powered response with the ability to go further with follow-up questions and helpful web links, the company added.AI Mode runs on a customized version of Googles Gemini 2.0 model, designed with advanced reasoning to handle more complex queries.Subscribers of Google One AI Premium can access the new feature by selecting the AI Mode tab on the search results page, alongside options like Images and Maps.Addressing AI accuracy concernsAI Overviews has faced criticism for inaccuracies, occasionally generating misleading or incorrect information. If such issues persist, they could erode user trust and harm Googles reputation. In the future, the way people search for information will shift from simple retrieval to understanding, summarizing, and presenting data in a way that is both accurate and fair, said Thomas George, president of Cybermedia Research. Striking this balance could make a defining moment for Google. If it fails, the company risks losing the very users and partners that helped it thrive.Introducing too many AI-driven changes without sufficient support for the broader web ecosystem could also trigger backlash from users and content creators.Last month, edtech firm Chegg sued Google, claiming that AI-generated previews diminish demand for original content and make it more difficult for publishers to compete.Googles adaptation of the traditional search model into AI Mode is complicated by its primary monetization method advertising that drives traffic to external sites, according to Suseel Menon, practice director at Everest Group. For Google, its a search economics problem, Menon said. Its a difficult equation for Google to solve, as generative queries cost on average 30-40% more to operate than traditional queries. Bringing AI Mode under a subscription tier addresses the long-term economics of search.Competing in the AI search raceWith companies like OpenAI and Perplexity rapidly advancing their AI-powered search capabilities, Google faces increasing pressure to refine its approach and stay ahead.Data from Statcounter showed that late last year Googles search market share dipped below 90% for the first time since 2015.The rivalry with companies like Microsoft and OpenAI will push Google to continually refine its strategy to keep AI-powered search relevant and profitable, George said. While AI-driven search enhances innovation and efficiency, it also disrupts the established digital business model, forcing stakeholders to adapt to rapid change. Google must improve data training, human oversight, algorithms, and user feedback while ensuring accuracy, content moderation, and transparency in experimental features to stay competitive, George added.

  • Charisma is just responsiveness
    blog.medium.com
Charisma is just responsivenessJoyful language-learning + symphonic sentences (Issue #282)Published inThe Medium BlogSent as aNewsletter3 min readJust now--Theres an essay I read a while back, by Sasha Chapin, about what might be the key to the universe (or at least some parts of it): responsiveness. He begins with a viral video of someone ordering dinner at a halal truck (1.6 million hearts) and uses this as a jumping off point to make an argument about charisma: its basically just responsiveness, i.e. picking up what others are putting down. We all want to be liked. And, Chapin argues, we all know how to be liked its just hard, and we dont always want to put the effort in. It takes attention and openness, he writes, and the confidence to present your character like its a fun mask youre wearing rather than a lesson youre desperate to teach someone.Anyway: Responsiveness. Weve all felt it in conversations, or even in writing. Chapins example of an email that feels responsive? Derek Sivers, the founder of CD Baby (an early music distributor) chalks up most of his success to a single email, the one youd get when you bought a CD. I adore this email:Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved Bon Voyage! to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Friday, June 6th.I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as Customer of the Year. Were all exhausted but cant wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!Its just an email, but, like its charming. You can sense a responsive human behind the words. Someone was thinking about this. Someone wanted to give you something that would make you smile. Someone actually cared. Surprisingly rare!Once you realize how much humans love responsiveness, you kind of cant unsee it. I was reading this story by a UX designer who fell in love with a Samurai game, for example, and latched onto the way he described the games immersive world. Grass parts as you walk, animals react to your presence, leaves move with every swing of your sword Mike Curtis writes. These subtle environmental responses created a continuous feedback loop that validated my existence in this space. Harris Sockel

  • Daredevil: Born Agains Character Death Repeats A Secret Invasion Mistake
    www.denofgeek.com
This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again episodes 1 and 2 and Secret Invasion. Some seven years after Netflix pulled the plug on its beloved Daredevil series, the Man Without Fear is being born again over on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again Marvel Cinematic Universe after he popped up in the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Promising a bloodier and more brutal take on your typical Marvel Studios series, the Born Again premiere wasted no time in getting there with a brutal character death. One of the earliest rumors was that the Daredevil sequel series wouldnt include Elden Hensons Foggy Nelson or Deborah Ann Wolls Karen Page, but while audience backlash was instant, confirmation that theyd be reprising their roles quickly undid that. Skeptics downplaying the whispers that Nelson, Page, or both could perish didnt stop Born Again from establishing itself as a no-holds-barred continuation. With jaws on the floor, Foggy was shot in the first five minutes and left to bleed out slowly before the opening credits rolled. To say that Foggys death was shocking would be an understatement, as social media was quickly filled by those who praised it as a brilliant end to a character they first met in 2015, and others calling it a desecration of a fan-favorite before he gets to reach his true potential as part of the MCU. Either way, the death of Foggy Nelson feels like it repeats a mistake from another maligned Marvel series. With Foggy expected to at least help Murdock settle into his new (official) stomping ground of the MCU, it seems as though his Born Again demise echoes what happened to Cobie Smulders Agent Maria Hill in Secret Invasions own premiere.Secret Invasion waited until the end of its first episode to kill Hill, where she was spectacularly shot in the stomach by a Skrull version of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and left on a cliffhanger. It was up to Smulders to confirm the longstanding character death, whereas Daredevil: Born Again wasted no time in clarifying Foggys demise and how itll shape the likes of Murdock and Page moving forward. Heavens Half Hour featured the return of Wilson Bethels Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye shooting Foggy, and much like how Hills death gave Fury a mission of vengeance, it set Daredevil on a much darker path.Despite Daredevil: Born Again and Secret Invasion reiterating that no one is safe, Nelson and Hill arent exactly MVPs of their respective shows. At least the writers have managed to avoid Secret Invasions problematic fridging trope that accused the series of killing Hill just to catapult Furys arc forward. Its just unfortunate that Foggy seems like hes being used for the same plot device. Unlike Hills unexpected death, Nelsons death actually makes a little more sense for comic book fans. Born Again seems to put a typical MCU twist on the Guardian Devil arc where Bullseye killed Karen in 1999s Daredevil Vol. 2 #5.Speaking to ScreenRant, showrunner Dario Scardapane suggested that although Foggy was always doomed to perish, he changed the circumstances surrounding how it happened. Scardapane told the outlet that it needed to happen as a way to break up the family dynamic and force Murdock to put away his mask: It was an inevitability! Truth be toldIn the original version, before I came in, he had died, but it was off-screen, and for me, it couldnt be off-screen. You had to feel it and thats why that statement happened literally. Whereas Hill was quickly forgotten, Foggys death will hopefully have more of a long-lasting effect on the series.Foggys death remains something of a confusing one, especially considering Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum confirmed to Phase Zeros Brandon Davis that Woll and Henson will be back for Born Again season 2. Winderbaum admitted he cant imagine a Matt Murdock story without the pair alongside Cox, although its unclear how Foggy will come back. While were guessing some flashbacks will be used to flesh out the missing years since Daredevils cancellation, its unclear what these will exactly add to the story. Theres also the idea that hell appear as some sort of ghostly guide to Murdock, but again, its a tired TV trope thats been done time and again (thanks Agatha All Along). The wildest option could also follow the comics and give fans the MCUs own version of Foggy being stabbed to death in 2006s Daredevil #82. Just a few issues later, it was revealed that the FBI had moved Foggy into witness protection, and he was recovering under a new identity. There have been plenty of divisive character deaths across the history of the MCU, and although ones like Tom Hiddlestons Loki havent stuck (multiple times), it really looks like Foggy has kicked the bucket. While he might be massive in the world of Daredevil,Avengers: Secret Wars through some multiversal shenanigans. Its a shame for those whod only just got to experience Hensons portrayal of Foggy, although wed question why youre jumping into Born Again without at least familiarizing yourself with Daredevils past.Daredevil: Born Again episodes one and two are available to stream on Disney+ now. New episodes premiere Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+.

  • Over 1,000 WordPress Sites Infected with JavaScript Backdoors Enabling Persistent Attacker Access
    thehackernews.com
Mar 06, 2025Ravie LakshmananData Breach / Website SecurityOver 1,000 websites powered by WordPress have been infected with a third-party JavaScript code that injects four separate backdoors."Creating four backdoors facilitates the attackers having multiple points of re-entry should one be detected and removed," c/side researcher Himanshu Anand said in a Wednesday analysis. The malicious JavaScript code has been found to be served via cdn.csyndication[.]com. As of writing, as many as 908 websites contain references to the domain in question. The functions of the four backdoors are explained below -Backdoor 1, which uploads and installs a fake plugin named "Ultra SEO Processor," which is then used to execute attacker-issued commandsBackdoor 2, which injects malicious JavaScript into wp-config.phpBackdoor 3, which adds an attacker-controlled SSH key to the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file so as to allow persistent remote access to the machineBackdoor 4, which is designed to execute remote commands and fetches another payload from gsocket[.]io to likely open a reverse shellTo mitigate the risk posed by the attacks, it's advised that users delete unauthorized SSH keys, rotate WordPress admin credentials, and monitor system logs for suspicious activity. The development comes as the cybersecurity company detailed another malware campaign has compromised more than 35,000 websites with malicious JavaScript that "fully hijacks the user's browser window" to redirect site visitors to Chinese-language gambling platforms."The attack appears to be targeting or originating from regions where Mandarin is common, and the final landing pages present gambling content under the 'Kaiyun' brand. The redirections occur through JavaScript hosted on five different domains, which serves as a loader for the main payload responsible for performing the redirects - mlbetjs[.]comptfafajs[.]comzuizhongjs[.]com jbwzzzjs[.]comjpbkte[.]com The findings also follow a new report from Group-IB about a threat actor dubbed ScreamedJungle that injects a JavaScript code-named Bablosoft JS into compromised Magento websites to collect fingerprints of visiting users. More than 115 e-commerce sites are believed to be impacted to date. The injected script is "part of the Bablosoft BrowserAutomationStudio (BAS) suite," the Singaporean company said, adding it "contains several other functions to collect information about the system and browser of users visiting the compromised website."It's said that the attackers are exploiting known vulnerabilities affecting vulnerable Magento versions (e.g., CVE-2024-34102 aka CosmicSting and CVE-2024-20720) to breach the websites. The financially motivated threat actor was first discovered in the wild in late May 2024."Browser fingerprinting is a powerful technique commonly used by websites to track user activities and tailor marketing strategies," Group-IB said. "However, this information is also exploited by cybercriminals to mimic legitimate user behavior, evade security measures, and conduct fraudulent activities."Found this article interesting?
