• Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Get Nightflower Pollen
    gamerant.com
There are so many materials for players to find in Monster Hunter Wilds that it can easily feel overwhelming to even think about tracking them all down. For the most part, these materials are easy to come across and there will be plenty of them that burn a hole in players' inventory pockets. But, there are some of those materials that are just way harder to find than others and can prove to be a real headache for any player looking to hunt them down. One of those materials is the Nightflower Pollen, a plant that will only appear in the game under very specific circumstances.

  • This Game-Changing Smart Lock Scans Your Palm Instead Of Fingerprints And Its 100% Foolpoof
    www.yankodesign.com
Heres a question I often ask myself. We had a solid decade where fingerprints were the standard of unlocking devices. Youll find fingerprint readers on phones and laptops even today, although facial recognition has pretty much replaced the tech as its cutting-edge successor but whats next? Fingerprints can be faked, facial recognition has a pretty high error rate, so how do we authenticate identities now? Turns out, the future lies in the palms of our hands literally! The folks at Lockin have developed a technology thats fairly foolproof, and difficult to spoof the Lockin Veno Pro is, to my knowledge, the first video smart-lock capable of not just scanning faces, but scanning palms too. The cutting-edge technology scans the shape of the veins underneath your palms, creating a signature veinprint that is unique to you.The tech works simply by holding your palm up to the camera. Instead of relying on external identifiers like fingerprints or faces, the camera scans the unique pattern of veins inside your hand, offering a level of security and reliability that traditional biometric systems cant match. Its fast, clean, and works with all sorts of palms, no matter how dry, wet, dirty, or wrinkly they are.Designer: LockinClick Here to Buy Now: $185 $379.99 (51% off). Hurry, exclusive deal for YD readers! The very highlight of the Veno Pro is Lockins Venokey technology, which uses near-infrared light to map the vein patterns inside your palm. Unlike fingerprints, which leave traces on surfaces, vein patterns are internal and invisible, making them far harder to replicate. This is the same technology used in banking and government security systems, adapted for home use. The result is a biometric lock thats resistant to spoofing, works in total darkness, and operates at 99.9% accuracy. With a recognition speed of 0.17 seconds, its as fast as Face ID but without the drawbacks of ambient lighting or angle restrictions. A simple wave of the hand is all it takes to unlock the door.Palm scanning aside, the door lock still sports a 2K AI-powered camera with a180 panoramic view that automatically detects and records motion near your door. The cameras AI distinguishes between people, packages, and animals, sending specific notifications based on what it sees. 32GB of local storage means nothing is shared with the cloud. Youve got no subscription fees or hidden costs, and even the companion app that lets you monitor your doorway is free to use.Setting up the Veno Pro requires minimal technical knowledge, as the device fits seamlessly into most deadbolt lock setups. The installation process typically takes under 15 minutes, with clear instructions provided through the companion app. The app itself offers an intuitive interface for managing access permissions, viewing door activity logs, and customizing notification preferences. Users can grant temporary access to visitors, service providers, or Airbnb guests, with specific time restrictions if desired. For family members uncomfortable with palm vein technology, the Veno Pro offers alternative access methods including PIN codes, NFC cards, and traditional keys as backups.Once installed, the Veno Pro integrates seamlessly into your smart home setup with support for ecosystems including Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. This allows users to incorporate the lock into automated routines, such as unlocking the door when arriving home or checking lock status via voice commands. The weatherproof design (IP65-rated) ensures reliable operation in rain, snow, and extreme temperatures, making it suitable for various climates. The lock also incorporates a solar-rechargeable power system, eliminating the need to replace batteries. Even in locations with limited sunlight, the efficient power management system ensures months of operation between charges. Alternatively, juice it via a power bank or power station to give the Veno Pro up to 3 months of use on a single charge. All biometric data is stored locally rather than in the cloud, eliminating concerns about data breaches. Communication between the lock and connected devices is secured with bank-grade encryption, ensuring that remote access features dont become an entry point for hackers. Backup unlock methods, including emergency passcodes and a hidden mechanical key, provide redundancy in case of unexpected failures. The physical construction incorporates anti-tampering mechanisms that trigger alarms if someone attempts to force the lock. If your phone is lost or stolen, you can immediately revoke its access through a web portal. The palm vein data never leaves the deviceunlike cloud-based systems where biometric information might be vulnerable to data breaches.Lockin displayed their palm-vein scanning technology at CES this year, with the Veno Pro being the latest smart door lock to highlight this rather novel technology. Locks should be fast, reliable, and resistant to tampering, and the Veno Pro checks every box. The convenience of touchless unlocking paired with enterprise-level security makes it an exciting step forward in smart home technology. Who knew that the future of smart home security lay in our hands all along!?The Lockin Veno Pro starts at $185, with global shipping starting March 2025. Each kit ships wth the Venos inner and outer panel, the deadbolt, a battery unit, two backup keys for manual unlocking, and the hardware needed to attach the Veno Pro to your door.Click Here to Buy Now: $185 $379.99 (51% off). • Apples new M4 MacBook Air has a sneaky new perk: Incredible deals on older models
    9to5mac.com
Last week, Apple introduced the new M4 MacBook Air model. It brought a new sky blue finish, and introduced a higher-resolution 12MP camera with support for Center Stage. However, it also included a much more important upgrade: a lower starting price.Thats right, the MacBook Air now starts at $999 again. Thats a big deal for two reasons. One, you no longer need to buy last-gen tech for that price point, and two, it means theres now incredible clearance deals on older models.Previous MacBook Air dealsThe M2 MacBook Air introduced the design language that lives on to this day. Up until last week, Apple was selling both M2 and M3 MacBook Air models on its online store, so theres plenty of inventory to go around.Other than the colors, chipset, and webcam, the M2, M3, and M4 MacBook Airs are all largely the same computer. Its just a matter of whether or not you need cutting edge silicon. Both previous-gen computers also received a RAM boost last year alongside the M4 MacBook Pro launch, so all M2 and M3 MacBook Air models start with 16GB of RAM, just like the new M4 MacBook Air.With all of that out of the way, these are the best deals on previous generation MacBook Air models at the time of writing. Theyre all in the ~20% off range, providing at least $200 in savings across the board:13-inch with M3 chip13-inch MacBook Air with 256GB SSD, 16GB memory $799 at Amazon (with on-page coupon)13-inch MacBook Air with 512GB SSD, 16GB memory $999 at Amazon13-inch MacBook Air with 512GB SSD, 24GB memory $1199 at Amazon15-inch with M3 chip15-inch MacBook Air with 256GB SSD, 16GB memory $999 at Amazon15-inch MacBook Air with 512GB SSD, 24GB memory $1399 at AmazonM2 chip13-inch MacBook Air with 256GB SSD, 16GB memory $699 at Best Buy13-inch MacBook Air with 512GB SSD, 8GB memory $699 at Amazon (keep in mind this model has less RAM, but if storage is a higher priority for you here you go)Wrap upOlder MacBook Air deals arent for everyone. For example, if you value having multiple external displays connected, youll need an M4 model to do so. That said, if youre just looking for a simple MacBook to cover most things, M2 and M3 MacBook Air models will be an awesome buy, though you will be missing out on that new sky blue finish. If you do value that blue finish, you can pre-order an M4 13-inch MacBook Air or 15-inch MacBook Air today, and receive it on launch day.My favorite Apple accessories on Amazon:Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Apple could easily improve the quality of its notification summaries, heres how
    9to5mac.com
Among all of the Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC24 last summer, notification summaries are likely one of the more controversial ones. Users have noticed a number of inaccurate summaries, which has resulted in Apple tweaking the design of notification summaries, as well as disabling it for news stories. While these summaries will never be absolutely perfect, there is one way Apple could easily improve the quality and accuracy of them, and Id like to see them take this idea into consideration for iOS 19.How Notification Summaries workNotification summaries aim to help you read through your notifications faster. It works by reading through every notification in a notification stack, and summarizing it, all on device. That sounds great in theory, but Apples implementation has one fatal flaw:Apple Intelligence can only summarize whats actually presented in a notification. That may sound like a well, duh statement, but hear me out.A lot of the time, notifications are already written to be brief, that way its easy for users to read within a small notification bubble. The model already has to be small enough to run locally on a chip as slow as an A17 Pro, so ideally, you wont want to leave a lot of room for guessing.Summaries currently lack contextGroup chats on iMessage have reply threads, so its easy for someone to concurrently discuss something else in a busy chat. Thats great, but Apple Intelligence has no way of understanding that context. This often results in differing details all merging into one inaccurate summary. The model is summarizing already-short notifications in the order they appear, and that isnt a perfect approach a lot of the time. That leads me to my suggestion: allow developers to provide additional background context to Apples on device model. With my example of iMessage, Apple could give the model context of what a new text is in response to.What Id like to see Apple doIf apps could provide additional background context to Apples model, many summary inaccuracies could be alleviated. This background context would otherwise be invisible to users, but itd help guide Apples models.Back in December, Apple Intelligence inaccurately summarized a BBC News story regarding Luigi Mangione. It was a large misrepresentation of the actual story, to say the least. Apple has since disabled notification summaries for news apps. However, in a world where developers could provide background context, it would be possible for the BBC, for example, to provide the lead paragraph of a story. This would give Apple Intelligence more info to work with, allowing for summaries to be more accurate.Ultimately, large language models will still do large language model things, especially when it comes to a model that needs to be small enough to run on a smartphone with 8GB of RAM. However, Apple needs a solution to its notification summaries problem. It certainly cant leave news summaries disabled forever. My favorite Apple accessories on Amazon:Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • The White Lotus Season 3, Episode 4 Recap And Review: You Killed My Father, Prepare To Die
    www.forbes.com
The White LotusCredit: HBOThis weekends episode of The White Lotus ends with a promise, or perhaps a threat. As several of our heroes boat off across the ocean to an island full moon party, Saxon raises his beer in a toast: $&%!s about to get crazy! he says the other partygoers. There is much merriment all around. But we know that Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) is correct. Things are about to get very crazy, indeed, for both the staff and guests of Thailands posh White Lotus hotel. Spoilers ahead. The Last Boy ScoutThe White LotusCredit: HBOProbably the most significant moment in the entire season so far, other than the shooting itself in the opening scene, is the introduction of The Gun. Russian playwright Anton Chekov famously said, when discussing narratives, If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there.Mike White turns this idiom on its head a bit by introducing a body in the first act, but its the same concept. Episode 4 effectively begins the second act of this season of The White Lotus, and its not until the second act that the actual gun makes an appearance. Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) is having a very bad week. The feds are investigating a shady embezzlement scheme he and a colleague, Kenny (Ke Huy Quan) were involved in, and he learns from his lawyer that said colleague is fully cooperating with the investigation. So much for killing himself, now hes selling Timothy down the river.Ratliff is clearly not above stealing. The money scheme may have been his first taste of this and that but he continues to steal and lie once in Thailand. He pilfers one of his wifes benzos after she urges him to take one to relax. Then he takes a couple more. When Victoria (Parker Posey) confronts her children about the missing pills, he doesnt confess. When they go on Gary/Gregs (John Gries) boat, Victoria hides her purse and Timothy steals the entire bottle. How hes still managing to stand, let alone stay awake, by the dinnertime is truly baffling. Several lorazepams and several drinks in, he can barely sit up straight. There are several important moments with Timothy:He tells a couple on the boat that hes in finance and then reveals that his grandfather was the governor of South Carolina, his father was a successful businessman and then starts rambling about how glad he is his parents are dead. The couple politely makes their escape. At the bar, he asks Gary/Greg what hes doing in Thailand. They say people only come here for two reasons, he tells him, to look for something or to hide from something. We know that Gary/Greg is doing both, but he brushes it off. Hes just retired. When he asks Timothy the same question, he says that hes just on vacation with his family But you never know . . . .Finally, at dinner his wife tells Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook) that shes lucky her dad isnt like one of those tax-evaders and other neer-do-wells on the boat. Hes a boy scout she says. Rattled, he makes a quick exit and goes to retrieve his phone. The last conversation he has is with his lawyer, who tells him the bad news and that he should expect prison time, though in a cushy federal prison and only a few months if they play their cards right. Id rather die! Timothy shouts. And whats he supposed to tell his family now that all their assets have likely been frozen and the government is poised to take their house and all their worldly goods? That were poor now? he scoffs. He hurls some further abuse at his lawyer before hanging up. And as he veers into a panic attack that even a day of lorazepam and booze cant waylay, he looks up and notices something.Which brings us to Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) who is about to have a very bad evening. The affable security guard hasnt had the best day, either. Hes been given a stern talking-to by both hotel manager, Fabian (Christian Friedel) and his direct supervisor. The supervisor wants him to learn how to shoot a pistol, which he takes out of his desk and shows him. Immediately, I knew this would be The Gun.Later, as Gaitok sits staring at the handgun, Mook (Lalisa Manobal) walks in, dressed in an elaborate costume and looking quite lovely. Gaitok is twitterpated, and forgets everything else. He offers to walk Mook back when she says its time to go, and all he can think of is how badly he wants to go on a date with her. He doesnt think about putting the gun back.So there it is, on the desk, when Timothy Ratliff looks up. Gaitok passes him on the way back to the security guard station, but its doubtful hell put two and two together. The gun is gone, and Gaitoks world comes crashing down around him.I Want My Father Back, You S.O.B.The White LotusCredit: HBOFor some time now, Ive suspected that Rick (Walton Goggins) hasnt brought Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) to The White Lotus for R&R, though lord knows he could use some. In Hide or Seek we confirm our suspicions. After much pouting and begging, Rick tells Chelsea the truth. The man who (allegedly) murdered his father while his father was (allegedly) just trying to help people in Thailand is the owner of the hotel. Thats why theyre here and thats why Rick has to go to Bangkok. She doesnt want him to go because she knows hell likely do something stupid and try to take revenge. Is this like a You killed my father, prepare to die thing? she asks, in a very funny little reference to one of my favorite movies, The Princess Bride. He assures her that it is not, that he just wants to look the man in the eyes and tell him what hes done, how hes ruined his life, but it seems unlikely that Rick will be calm enough to leave it at that, should he find his fathers killer.Rick also bumps into Amrita (Shalini Peiris) who tells him that hes touched her heart, and urges him to continue to come to meditation sessions. You can break the karmic cycle, she says. He can walk a new path. This has an impact on him, clearly, but he tells her hes off to Bangkok and leaves it at that. Its All Fun And Games Until Someone Gets SoakedThe White LotusCredit: HBOMuch of the comic relief this episode comes from the Gossip Girls: Kate (Leslie Bib), Laurie (Carrie Coon) and Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan). Jaclyn is stressing out about her husbands lack of communication. He isnt answering her calls or returning her texts. Shes half-convinced herself that hes just busy shooting a movie, but she has her doubts. These manifest as anstiness. Jaclyn wants to get out of the hotel and go do something fun.The Gossip Girls turn to Valentin (Arnas Fedaraviius) for suggestions and he sends them first to a nearby beach pool and bar. Here, Jaclyn runs into some older women who ask if shes on TV. After a brief and deeply awkward conversation, Jaclyn begins to notice her surroundings: Almost all of the guests are old. She grows increasingly flustered and then gathers her friends and makes a speedy retreat, hollering at them to hurry up.She finds Valentin and asks him why he sent them there. Its a good question. This was clearly not the vibe she was looking for and Valentin certainly knew that. They force him to join them on their next endeavor and the quartet heads into town where he departs to go track down his friends to join them. Before he goes, they notice that everyone in the crowd has water-guns and he says not to worry. The locals are celebrating Songkran, a holiday that is traditionally celebrated with water fights. This takes place during the hottest, driest time of the year in Thailand, and it actually gives us a precise date for when this story is taking place: Between April 13th and April 15th.In any case, this all seems kind of curious to them until some mischievous children take an interest in these three white women, so clearly not participating in the festivities. Soon, the Gossip Girls are surrounded by kids with super-soakers, blasting them as they first beg, then scold, then run screaming through the streets. Honestly, in that heat why not just enjoy it? If theyd simply ignored their attackers, the kids would have gotten bored and moved on, but instead they did everything possible to ensure theyd get a good spray-down, before finally hiding in a little shop to escape. When they look out, the kids are waiting for them. Its probably the most hilarious moment yet this season, and the funniest this show has been since Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge) tried to climb off the boat in Season 2 and derped her way to an early grave. Finally, our trio makes their way to a beachside bar where Valentin and two of his friends await. These are, I assume, the two thieves from the second episode. The first is Bikovi (Julian Kostov) whose eyes and brow match the masked gunmans. The second is Vlad (Yuri Kolokolnikov) whos wearing a hat, but who looks like he could easily be the driver from the jewelry heist due to his lack of hair. $%*^s about to get crazy, alright! The Curious Incident Of The Gary In The Night-TimeThe White LotusCredit: HBOFinally, we have Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) who cant stop thinking about Greg/Gary and how she knows she knows him and cant shake how weird the whole thing is. She hears another noise in her room, but I dont think this is Greg/Gary. Maybe its a monkey. I dont think its him because he doesnt start investigating her until the end of the episode, and the noises shes been hearing were at the end of last weeks episode and beginning of this weeks. In any case, she looks up Tanya and learns about her untimely and suspicious death. She also learns that her husband was wanted for questioning by Italian authorities but never showed up. Hes off hiding in Thailand, up to no good. Shes shocked by these revelations, though its unclear what she plans to do about it, or whether shell be able to before Greg/Gary does something to silence her.Her son, Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) is set to arrive the next day. We already met him, of course, when we see him and Amrita during a meditation session when the gunshots start ringing out in the jungle.Whos shooting the gun? Is it Timothy, finally off his rocker with stress going on a suicide shooting spree? Could it be one of the thieves? Or perhaps Rick, hunting down his fathers killer? Maybe one of the Gossip Girls has a mental breakdown and goes on a rampage. Then again, it could be Gaitok chasing down Valentins cronies.Or perhaps . . . just maybe . . . its a monkey with a gun. If you introduce a monkey in the first act, you have to have it fire a gun in the third. Chekovs Monkey.Scattered ThoughtsWhat if Sritala (Lek Patravadi) and her husband are mixed up in the robbery? They could be pulling an insurance scam. Who better knows just how lax the security is at the hotel?I am starting to suspect that when Rick finds his fathers killer, the man will be in such bad health that exacting revenge will not seem as appealing. But I also believe that Rick will get in some kind of trouble in Bangkok. The full moon party is going to be crazy. Saxon and Lachlan (Sam Nivola) are hoping for a good time, but I wonder if theyre getting in over their heads. We all are sort of rooting for Saxon to get smacked down in some form or another, but I worry about Lachlan, who is too easily influenced by his crummy big brother.Piper also reveals this episode that shes planning on moving to Thailand to join the Buddhist retreat. She wants to reveal this at dinner, but her timing could not be worse. It appears she wont that conversation just yet. Shes also the first to notice that her father is acting not just strangely, but that something is wrong. She asks him and he just stares at her, then sort of caresses her hair and face and tells her he loves her so much, that shes perfect, until hes interrupted by Victorias arrival and news that her pills are missing. Its . . . uncomfortable. I think all the weird incestuous stuff weve noticed with the Ratliff family is making me see every interaction of theirs through that lens, even if there isnt anything going on.Ill add any other scattered thoughts I come up with to this section if and when I have them. What did you think of this episode?
