  • Palworlds Cross-Play Update Goes Live Later This Month
    gamingbolt.com
Pocketpair has announced that cross-play will be coming to Palworld later this month. It allows for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Mac players to play together online. Even better, you can also transfer Pals between worlds.Further details will be revealed when the patch goes live, so stay tuned, but this is only the beginning of significant updates for the survival sandbox creature collector. Its roadmap indicates more Pals and technologies are coming alongside collaborations with other titles (and even more content with Terraria). You can also look forward to more ways to strengthen and improve Pals. However, perhaps the most intriguing element is the ending scenario, which sees players venturing to the ominous World Tree. It serves as a brand new area, and while exploring it will conclude the current journey, community manager John Buckley says its by no means the end of the title.Check out our review for Palworld here, though it only covers the launch version. It has over 32 million players, though its also facing legal issues with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. Learn more about that here.

  • Scopely acquires Pokmon Go developer Niantic in deal worth $3.5bn
    www.gamesindustry.biz
Scopely acquires Pokmon Go developer Niantic in deal worth $3.5bnDeal also includes companion apps and services "Campfire" and "Wayfarer" News by Vikki Blake Contributor Published on March 12, 2025 Pokmon Go developer Niantic has agreed to be acquired by Savvy Games Group subsidiary Scopely. The deal, valued at $3.5 billion, matches the details that leaked last month. It includes Niantic's entire game development team as well as its the games Pokmon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now.The deal also includes companion apps and services "Campfire" and "Wayfarer" and will see Scopely assume control of Niantic's popular live events like Pokmon Go Fest.Niantic games have always been a bridge to connect people and inspire exploration, and I am confident they will continue to do both as part of Scopely, said John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic.Scopely shares our focus on building and operating incredible live services, has exceptional experience working with the world's biggest and most beloved intellectual properties, and cares deeply about its player communities and game-making teams."I firmly believe this partnership is great for our players and is the best way to ensure that our games have the long-term support and investment needed to be 'forever games' that will endure for future generations.Scopely was acquired by Saudi Arabian multinational game investment group Savvy Games Group back in July 2023 for $4.9 billion. In January, it appointed Nika Nour as SVP and head of international business development.Saudi Arabia has been more and more active in the games and esports industry over the past few years, having invested $38 billion via its Public Investment Fund. The PIF has stakes in companies including Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Nexon, and Capcom. It is also hosting the inaugural Olympic Esports Games, which are now set for 2027.These investments have been controversial due to Saudi Arabia's poor human rights record, most notably on gender inequality and the criminalization of homosexuality, which is still punishable by life imprisonment or execution.

After the label was sold, Moon spent "months" negotiating for the publishing rights to No Rest for the Wicked. The game was not included in the sale of Private Division's current and unreleased assets because Take-Two initially intended to keep supporting it.What's left of the label is now reportedly in the hands of former Annapurna Interactive staff and Haveli Investments (thanks Bloomberg)."We have secured the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked, allowing us to execute our vision without restrictions," said Moon during its recent showcase.Moon is the latest studio to break off from its publishing partner and strike out on its own. Back in 2024, Endless Dungeon maker Amplitude took the indie route after its splitting with Sega.Canadian developer Yellow Brick Games also chose to self-publish its debut title, Eternal Strands, after Private Division was gutted. That same year, Remedy Entertainment announced it too would self-publish titles like Control 2 and FBC: Firebreak, albeit with some help from Annapurna and Tencent.Just because a studio is self-publishing doesn't mean it completely abandons third-party names. Outriders developer People Can Fly aims to self-publish some of its work while still taking on contract gigs when it can, such as co-developing Gears of War: E-Day with the Coalition. No Rest for the Wicked will be Moon's first attempt at self-publishing. • Sonos has canceled its streaming video player
    www.theverge.com
Sonos has abandoned plans to release a streaming video player, the companys leadership announced in an all-hands call today. The product, codenamed Pinewood, was set to be Sonos next major hardware launch. It was already deep into development and has spent months in beta testing. But now the team behind it will be reassigned to other projects as interim CEO Tom Conrad reprioritizes the companys future roadmap and continues what he hopes will be a turnaround from a bruising 2024.The cancellation of Pinewood leaves Sonos without a significant new product to ship in the second half of 2025. The company most recently released the Arc Ultra soundbar and Sub 4 at the end of last year. Internally, some employees were concerned that Pinewood would ultimately become a repeat of the Sonos Ace headphones and see the company trying to take on well-established players in a new product category. The Verge has reached out to Sonos for comment.Pinewood was designed to offer many of the same streaming video apps as other devices on the market. But as I reported last month, Sonos also planned for it to double as an HDMI switcher and support passthrough functionality for gaming console …Read the full story at The Verge.

  • FCC chairman asks the public to list every regulation he should remove
    www.theverge.com
Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr is asking the public to help him identify unnecessary regulations created by the agency so that he can eliminate them.Carr announced In re: Delete, Delete, Delete on Wednesday, in response to President Donald Trumps executive orders seeking to remove regulations across the government. One order that the FCC cited in its announcement calls for agencies to identify 10 regulations to repeal for every one they propose. Carr has so far made himself one of Trumps most loyal lieutenants, taking up his preferred policies and investigating media and tech companies Trump has long battled. For too long, administrative agencies have added new regulatory requirements in excess of their authority or kept lawful regulations in place long after their shelf life had expired, Carr says in a statement. This only creates headwinds and slows down our countrys innovators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. The FCC is committed to ending all of the rules and regulations that are no longer necessary. And we welcome the publics participation and feedback throughout this process. The FCC is asking for comments that identify rules and regulations that are outdated, create barriers to entry or unfairly disadvantage American-owned businesses, or have greater costs than benefits, according to the agencys public notice. Anyone wishing to comment on the initiative can do so on the FCC website for the next 30 days.
