Oh hey, this game on Steam has an update! I wonder what it does? *No Patch Notes*

I feel like this happens pretty often, a game gets an update and there is no patch notes with it. Sometimes they post it on their socials, but sometimes not.
Anyone else find this frustrating at times? Lol
Like I don't need an entire chapter of patch notes, but even just a small info about the general idea of what the patch does would be nice lol

Which is worse, no patch notes, or "Misc bug fixes"?

Yup. I like to read patch notes, and it's sad they're often missing. Good example would be the Tomb Raider Remastered games.

I think none lol. I'd take even just a small thing that says that it's just bug fixes.

This should be mandatory on any platform, tell me what exactly are you changing/fixing.

Or maybe it's a cache update, or maybe steamworkshop is updating something.
Sometimes steam will tell you, sometimes not!

At least it's better than PlayStation where they just totally removed the ability for devs to add them.

Yeah, publishers are random like that.
Sometimes there's patch notes posted as intended, sometimes they only posted the notes in the community hubs, and sometimes they never posted anything.

They had it on PS4...I don't know what was the thinking behind it. Corporations make no sense.

I love seeing the Scheduled list fill up with EA and/or Ubisoft games. Obviously some launcher-related bullshit.

Patch notes are not even on point 100% of the time anyways. It is just a rough summary of what's going in.
For a given AAA title with 20 entries in the patch notes, there likely have been 200+ checkins.
Reading Perforce history and grabbing what you think is important to mention publicly is a very fun activity.

Nowadays they just go if you want to know what is in this patch, here is a link to the Steam page.

It annoys me no end. Take today for example, I login to steam for the first time in 3 days and every single Ubisoft game has a 251mb patch. That's like 15 games. These same 15 games has a similar sized patch about a week ago. So annoying

If there is anything worth mentioning they usually put up a post with patch notes.
Don't really care about getting spammed for every 5 bugs they patch.

This was really bad with Rise of the Ronin (original PS5 release). It's as if the role of organising it (and for social media presence in general) got dropped somewhere between the dev team, Koei Tecmo, and Sony.
I thought you played that on release, and I just went back to check the OT and your last few posts in there were trying to find patch notes lol

Those ones are just updating the launcher. They should still note that, but they don't.

Yes that's why they are called notes, not perforce logs.

I always appreciate the devs that choose to do patch notes. But yeah when an especially old game gets a large patch out of nowhere and there are no notes? Obnoxious.
Can we also talk about Steam just scheduling arbitrary times and dates for updates sometimes? Like that last Blue Prince update was scheduled for May 1st for some reason.

Not having detailed patch notes bothers me a lot.
But I don't know which bothers me more. Nothing or patch notes worded like "Changed elements related to X". Like TELL ME WHAT YOU CHANGED. I still don't know what they did to the Cid segment in FFVI Pixel Remastered and it bothers me so much. Just fucking tellll meeeeee.

I find the community discussions to be the best place for patch notes, even ones that are provided don't always include every detail.
