Does Xenoblade Chronicles 2 story get better the further you play?

I am and hour into the game. Does it get more interesting as you progress story wise? It sure hadn't gripped me like the first game did. Granted the opening of the first game is iconic.

Just like the original game, there are a lot of massive twist that kind of turn the story on its head so I would say that it does but I was into it from the beginning so what do I know?

Haha, absolutely not. My eyes eventually slid off the screen the moment any cutscene began.

YES
I mean the moment I switched to jp voice, all the cringe left the game and what remained was insanely memorable

Usual suspects in here popping off, but yeah it definitely gets more interesting. That's gameplay and story wise

In my opinion, absolutely not. I say this as someone who is currently 120 hours in and played it 6 minutes ago lol.
They underutilise characters, overuse others, lose itself within the plot. I feel like this had different writers during different parts and it was never cohesive. The first few hours are good the rest is just incoherent and disjointed. Perhaps a second playthrough is way better.
But as a story based gamer, the fact I dread cutscenes is a terrible sign. I've started skipping cutscenes for side quests and even heart to hearts, the game just lost me around the 50% mark and never got me back.
Gameplay is fun but has various issues (so many systems and lacking QOL).

It literally does.
Xenoblade 2 is the epitome of the "it gets good 30 hours in" trope.

Nope. The only good part of XB2 is the Torna expansion.

Most definitely. Chapter 4 is a bit of a drag but it gets a lot better afterward.

No. It's a fever dream front to back, and Jin and Malos aren't enough to save it.

Absolutely. The story has some of my favorite highs in the genre. Ignore the first reply. Swear they post more about how much they dislike the game than the most hardcore fans who love the game post about it.

100% YES. Don't listen to anyone saying no. They're just wrong. It may not be to everyone's taste. But the story objectively ramps up and gets much better the game progresses all the way until the end.

Does anyone know if it's required to play xbc2 before 3 story wise?
