To no surprise, these patterns stem from our earliest relationships: the ones with our parents or primary caregivers.Importantly, these issues dont necessarily mean someone has a bad relationship with their parents, or even that they grew up without one. Instead, they reflect unmet emotional needs or unresolved attachment wounds from childhood and as time progresses, they inform how we connect with others in our adulthood.In psychology, these are known as parent woundsor the mother wound and father wound, respectively. Heres how they can manifest in romantic relationships.1. The Mother Wound In RelationshipsWhile anyone can have mommy issues, theyre most commonly associated with men. For both men and women, however, the father wound often originates from observations made in childhoodas research from the Australian & New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy explains.In more patriarchal settings, children tend to learn about power and domination from their fathersthe leaders of the householdfrom a young age. In turn, having an emotionally remote or absent father may later result in difficulties with establishing trust, problems with authority figures or struggles with self-esteem.These issues often develop when a father figure was absent, inconsistent, overly critical or harsh during a childs most precious, formative years. Just as with mother wounds, father wounds can manifest in two contrasting ways: clinging to partners for stability or keeping emotional distance as a self-protective measure.Fathers are presupposed to be a childs source of stability and safetyan icon of strength. They will fight tooth and nail to prove that they dont need anyone, even their romantic partners. And this includes forgetting something dubbed immune amnesia. But now that measles has made a reappearance in this country with 320 reported cases across 16 states this year so far after vaccination rates have been dropping, it may be time to for a reminder. A reminder of not only the short-term badness but also the long-term no-you-really-dont-that-because-it-could-have-been-avoided stuff that measles can bring to you like immune amnesia and SSPE.Immediate Complications Of MeaslesYou may have seen the following statistics about measles from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:Around one in five unvaccinated people in the U.S. who get measles is hospitalizedOne out of every 20 children with measles gets pneumoniaOne child out of every 1,000 who get measles will develop encephalitis, a medical term for swelling of the brainNearly one to three of every 1,000 children who become infected with measles will die from respiratory and neurologic complications.You may have also learned that getting the measles while you are pregnant can lead to premature birth or low-birth-weight babies.Immune Amnesia From MeaslesBut you may not realize what measles can do to your immune system, not just while you are infected with the virus but for years and years afterwards. We obviously live in a world where there are a lot of threats around us like different nasty viruses and bacteria. Thats why its not a good idea to eat dirt or lick the toilet seat. There are also good stuff like friendly bacteria and avocado toast. Over the years our immune systems learn to recognize the bad stuff from the good stuff by either encountering them naturally or deliberately through approaches like vaccination. Your immune system forms memory cells to remember what to do with each thing and plasma cells to quickly secrete antibodies specifically against things that were recognized as bad.Unfortunately, the measles virus can target and destroy these cells in your immune system, resulting in your immune system forgetting what to do when different things invade your body, hence the term amnesia. A study published in the journal Science in 2019 found that a measles infection play Wreck-It Ralph on your store of antibodies, destroying 11% to 73% of them. Thats decimating not just antibodies against the measles virus but also antibodies against other stuff like potentially the chickenpox, rhinoviruses, coronaviruses, different types of bacteria and whatever. So all that work your immune system did over the years to detect and build up defenses against stuff may be laid to waste.This can leave your immune system like that Matt Damon character in the Bourne Identity and all its sequels, trying to re-learn and piece together things. Over time your immune system may get back to where it was previously. But this can take years and re-exposures to all sorts of things. Yep, try saying that 10 times quickly. This can happen long after you think youve recovered fully from the measles, typically seven to 10 years later. You gotta figure that anything with that many syllables cant be good to get.SSPE is quite rare, appearing in about 7 to 11 out of every 100,000 people who get the measles. But its bad if you get it, really bad. Its basically inflammation and swelling throughout your brain, resulting in progressive loss of your ability to think and function, eventually leading in most cases to coma and death. Theres not real cure for SSPE. You can down barrels of vitamin A till the cows come home, and it wont affect the course of SSPE.Clearly, the best way to avoid immune amnesia or SSPE from the measles is to not get the measles in the first place. And gee if there were only a very effective way of preventing the measles. Oh, thats right, theres a measles vaccines that is over 97% efficacious against the measles after two doses are administered, which people have been getting for years. And that vaccine helped the U.S. declare measles eliminated in 2000 so that it wouldnt be a problem any longer. Until, of course, now.

The year 2025 is going to be pivotal for Teslas humanoid robot plans, if the words of CEO Elon Musk are to be believed. But next year could mark an astronomical milestone for the companys Optimus robot, in quite the literal sense. Taking to X, Musk mentioned in a post that SpaceX will put an Optimus robot on Mars atop its flagship Starship rocket by the end of 2026. Just over a week ago, the Starship broke apart following a launch test, the second such failure this year. At the event, Musk told the crowd that Optimus was the biggest product ever of any kind. It was later reported that the robots were remotely operated by humans at the event. Later, during the companys Q4 2024 earnings calls, Musk shed more light on production plans, adding that the product has a revenue potential higher than $10 trillion. He also mentioned plans to manufacture thousands of humanoid robots in 2025.Will those several thousand Optimus robots be doing useful things by the end of the year? Yes, Im confident they will do useful things, Musk said. The Tesla and SpaceX chief has previously given an estimate worth $20,000-30,000 as the asking price of Optimus. As far as plans of sending Optimus to Mars are concerned, they are more likely a technical showcase. Whether Starship is able to perform a successful uncrewed mission to Mars by the end of 2026 is the bigger picture. NASA has its hopes pinned on the Starship for its Artemis missions, which are supposed to put man back on the Moon by 2027. Trump has signed into law a continuing resolution that averts a government shutdown.The bill keeps the government funded through late September.Democrats on Capitol Hill were deeply divided in their approach to the funding bill.President Donald Trump on Saturday signed the high-stakes government funding bill approved by the Senate a day earlier, averting a partial government shutdown but leaving Democrats divided on their strategy to counter the administration.Harrison Fields, the White House principal deputy press secretary, wrote in a post on X that Trump signed the continuing resolution. Fields thanked a range of congressional leaders, from House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York.The bill which funds the government through the end of September trims non-defense spending by roughly $13 billion and increases defense spending by $6 billion.On Friday, the GOP-controlled Senate voted 62-38 to advance the measure, with Schumer and nine other lawmakers who caucus with Democrats joining nearly every Republican.The bill then passed the chamber in a final 54-46 vote. Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Independent Sen. Angus King of Maine were the only members who caucus with Democrats to support the final measure, while GOP Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky was the lone GOP opponent of the bill.The bill's passage has exposed a major rift among Democrats on Capitol Hill, as virtually every House Democrat including many hailing from critical swing districts opposed passage of the bill. This is apparently the one Disneys putting its weight behind this year, which means its time to brag about some metrics! According to Disney, theLilo & Stitchtrailer has garnered 158 million views within 24 hours. Its the second-biggest trailer for its enterprise of live-action remakes to date, coming behind the 224.6 million views for the Lion King remakes teaser trailer. (That teaser, which dropped in November 2018, was the second-biggest trailer drop ever at the time.)Liloalso did quite well on social media, taking the top trending spot on Twitter, YouTube, and Chinas Douyin platform. Disney gave partial credit to Stitch popping up at the Super Bowl in a short teaser, which itself had 173.1 million views in 24 hours, and stands as the studios most-viewed digital spot. Disneys no stranger to bragging about how well its trailers have donejust like were no stranger to reporting on thembut it is a bit strange to see it brag aboutLilo & Stitchsteaser getting second place. It also highlights how much the remakes have lost their potency: looking great was the general saving grace ofLion King,but such views are not apparent in what weve seen from Lilo. If folks arent gonna tune in for Snow Whites CG dwarfs, they might not tune in for a CG alien pretending to be a CG dog. As always, the best and worst thing to happen to this remake may be it gets younger generations to watch the original animated version and see how the two differ.
