You know what they say about March: It comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. I dont know if thats true whether your metric is weather, stress, or simply Girl Scout cookie availability but its a good reminder that the end of this month should include a little bit of time for easy living. Appropriately, this weeks new TV provides a lot of reprieve whether you want to escape into the world of video game comedies, pulpy thrillers, showbiz satires, or big guys fighting each other. • One of the most atrocious games ever published is coming to Steam, and its not a joke
    www.polygon.com
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, widely regarded as one of the worst video games ever commercially released, is getting a 2025 release on Steam and the exhumation of this 2003 disaster does not appear to be a joke, some sort of meta-commentary, or a stealth psychological horror game disguising itself as Big Rigs.Instead, publisher Margarite Entertainment appears to be of the opinion that the oft-mocked Big Rigs is a classic trucking game and that its release on Steam in the coming months will mark its triumphant return. A news release from Margarite Entertainment effectively touts the same inaccurate promises that Big Rigs box art made more than 20 years ago, which the final, barely-playable game certainly did not live up to.Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing was developed by Stellar Stone which outsourced the games development to Ukraine and originally released by GameMill Publishing. In its original state, the game was an unmitigated disaster. The games AI-controlled truck that you were supposed to race against didnt move at all. The games physics and collision detection were virtually non-existent, meaning you could drive your rig up the side of mountains and through buildings. Even the games acceleration was completely busted; players could move in reverse at speeds of up to 2 million miles per hour. The game is also infamous for its congratulatory message YOURE WINNER ! when completing a course. A patch released for Big Rigs addressed some of the games glaring issues, including some of its broken English, but even then, many of the features promised on the games original box (and now in Margarite Entertainments announcement) were never part of the game. That includes stay[ing] one step ahead of the law and hauling loads yes, two of the games four drivable trucks have trailers, but the contents of those haulers are not visible nor are players aware of their contents. You might consider them Schrdingers load.Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing has long been a well-deserved punching bag for critics and content creators for decades. GameSpot famously scored the game a 1 out of 10 in reviewer Alex Navarros 2003 assessment, which was paired with a funny video of Navarro suffering through the barely functioning game. Similar popular takedowns from the Angry Video Game Nerd and Cr1TiKaL have echoed just how bad Big Rigs is. At this years Awesome Games Done Quick speedrunning charity event, runner szcymanski completed all five tracks in 3 minutes, 29 seconds, a feat pulled off completely in reverse to showcase the games brokenness. Its still unclear if publisher Margarite Entertainment truly knows what it has on its hands. Margarite Entertainments website says that the companys mission is acquiring and licensing classic games and that it is eager to present these exceptional games to an emerging audience. Thus far, the only game the publisher has announced it has rights to is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. (Margarite appears to be based in China, going by the companys domain registration and investment from Hong Kong-based ACG Plus Capital.)Time will soon tell what the 2025 release of Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing will play like. But given the games infamous quality, dont expect much more than a fresh batch of memes and comedic playthroughs.

  • Im Obsessed With Grilling Shrimp on My Waffle Iron
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page. For lean protein thats tasty, low fat, and affordable, you can't go wrong with shrimp, especially if you buy frozen. I like to do just that, and stretch it out over many meals. I think we can all agree that when youre eating a lot of one particular thing, the best way to keep things interesting is to try new recipes and to find different cooking methods for it. And my latest shrimp obsession is to grill it using my waffle iron. Why waffled shrimp worksThe waffle iron is one of the most versatile appliances in your kitchenit's good for so much more than making waffles. The benefits of using a waffle maker to cook your wee sea bugs is four-fold: speed, ease, space, and a dry cook (which compares to grilling). When I waffle my shrimp, I always start with a cleaner counter space; as the prep is all done beforehand, and my particular waffle maker is not very large, I need some room to have all my skewers ready to go. Then its just a matter of switching out the skewers of shrimp in the appliance; once cooked, theyre ready to snack on or lay across a pile of rice. The "dry cook" is the biggest selling point for me. I love shrimp, but I don't always love eating wet shrimp, and the waffle iron remedies this. (Im a sometimes seafood lover, so I can get easily grossed out by too much ocean; my fiance historically makes too much saucy shrimp, so Ill switch to waffling when Im in charge of dinner.) Similarly to grilling, where you have grates, the divots and grooves of the waffle press allow the excess juices to drain away from the meat. (This is also why you should waffle some meat.) That, coupled with the high heat of the waffle plates, means you can quickly concentrate the flavor without much moisture collecting around the seafood. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann How to waffle your shrimp1. Thaw the shrimpWaffling your shrimp is especially good if youre in the mood for a quick shrimp snack. Since the waffle iron cooks from both sides simultaneously, my medium shrimp finished cooking in three minutes. If you have frozen shrimp or youre marinating it, thaw them in the fridge overnight and give them a seasoning dry rub in the morning so youll be ready to waffle them just before eating.2. MarinateA good marinade can be nearly any seasoning mix, spice blend, or even salad dressing. As I mentioned, I prefer dry but flavorful shrimp, so after thawing Ill pat them dry with paper towel and add them to a bowl with dry seasonings like old bay, cayenne pepper powder, a curry powder mix, and salt. Then Ill drizzle on a teaspoon or so of cooking oil. This makes it easier to coat the shrimp with the seasonings but also prevents them from sticking to the iron.3. Skewer Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann You dont need to skewer the shrimp, but I like to because its so much easier to remove them from the waffle maker and switch in the next batch. Also, you must consider how fun it is to eat shrimp straight off the skewer. Use bamboo skewers and poke through the centers of the shrimpthey don't need soaking or any special treatment. You can skewer as many as will fit, but dont add more than the length or width of your waffle iron.4. WaffleMy waffle iron only has an on-off toggle, but if you have temperature controls, then put them up to the highest setting. Shrimp cook easily, and large or medium shrimp will cook through in three to four minutes. When your iron is fully preheated, lay down as many skewers as you can fit with about a half-inch of space between them. Press the lid down and keep some pressure on it for the first minute or so. Peek in the side to see if theyre looking opaque after three minutes, and remove them if so. Swap in the next skewers. If you dont have a waffle iron already or youre looking to buy a new one, I highly recommend one that has removable plates for easier cleaning. Its such a relief to let the waffle iron cool down while I eat my snack shrimp, then come back and pop out the plates; the appliance goes into its storage spot and I take care of plates with the rest of the dishes. Cuisinart 2-in-1 Waffle Maker with Removable Plates, WAF-RP10NAS $79.99 at Amazon Shop Now Shop Now $79.99 at Amazon While your waffled shrimp may not have the grill marks or the smoky flavor of actual grilled shrimp (perhaps you can add some smoked paprika?), heating up the waffle iron is a lot easier than firing up a real grill. Plus, if you live in an apartment (like I do), or you simply dont have a grill, this waffle-griddled shrimp gives you lots of flavor and a lot less mess.
