He will receive credit for time already servedtotaling 1,283 days.The 42-year-old former two-time UFC heavyweight champion was sentenced during a hearing at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in San Jose, California. He had previously pleaded no contest to a charge of attempted murder, according to NBC Bay Area.Prosecutors had sought a sentence of 30 years to life in prison, while the defense argued for no incarceration. Judge Arthur Bocanegra presided over the case, which stemmed from a February 2022 incident involving a high-speed pursuit.Velasquez followed a vehicle carrying Harry Goulartea man accused of sexually abusing Velasquezs then-four-year-old sonas well as members of Goulartes family.According to a news release from the Santa Clara County District Attorneys Office, Velasquez confronted the vehicle at an intersection and opened fire with a handgun. When the occupants attempted to flee, Velasquez allegedly rammed the vehicle and continued firing. Goulartes stepfather, Paul Bender, was struck in the arm by a bullet that entered the vehicle.Authorities also reported that a search of Velasquezs phone revealed online queries such as: sexual assault case where victims family fights back and sexual assault cases where victims family retaliates.Velasquez was incarcerated for nearly nine months before being granted conditional release on appeal, following an initial denial of bail.Goularte has pleaded not guilty to one count of committing lewd acts with a minor. His trial is scheduled to begin on June 2. Velasquez has also filed a civil lawsuit against the Goularte family and the daycare center where the alleged abuse occurred. That facility has since been closed.The sentencing prompted strong reactions across the MMA world, with many fighters and fans publicly expressing support for Velasquez on social media.In addition to attempted murder, Velasquez also faced charges for shooting at a motor vehicle or aircraft, assault with a firearm (three counts), assault with a deadly weapon (three counts), willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.Days prior to sentencing, Velasquez released a statement submitting to any judgment the court system came to following the trial.What I did was not correct, Velasquez said while appearing as a guest on the Kyle Kingsbury podcast. I understand that. I paid, and Ill pay whatever else as far as what I have to do to pay all that back. I dont think I can pay it back, but I can always learn from my mistakes and help others. Its just information that you never know anybody. Trust your kids. Have that open communication with your kids. When you do go to the bathroom with them when (theyre) very young, you can work your way in there as far as talking to them about whats appropriate and what is not, so they know to tell you and they can always tell you whenever something is not correct. So as far as that goes, its basically that the more we get consciously aware of ourselves, the more that light shines on dark things, especially things like that.Velasquez also said: "Even with that family and what theyve done, I cant have hate like that for them because there are things that I have to move on to and give love to my kids and give love to the people around. Ive got to share this with everybody, so I cant give hate to them at all. I wish them healing in the best way, whatever that is. I wish that for them. I understand that they have traumas, as well. Its not right to spread it no. Im glad they themselves have stopped because they cant practice any more as far as daycare. With my own time, Ive forgiven them and everything else, and I know my kids are great.Velasquez retired from MMA in 2019 with a 14-3 record.

    A research team from Cornell Tech is addressing the lack of technical support for various end-user hardware options, using a tool they developed that renders 3D models via a mobile device.The tool, called SplatOverflow is intended to use the renders to make hardware issues easier to identify and diagnose. It is based on the similarly named tool StackOverflow, which performs an identical function for software issues.Recommended VideosAs tools for designing and manufacturing hardware become more accessible, smaller producers can develop and distribute novel hardware. However, processes for supporting end-user hardware troubleshooting or routine maintenance arent well defined. As a result, providing technical support for hardware remains ad-hoc and challenging to scale, the team said in its research blurb. SplatOverflow is the brainchild of Amritansh Kwatra, a Ph.D., an information science fellow at Cornell Tech. The research was directed by Thijs Roumen, assistant professor at Cornell Tech. The research was carried out at Matter of Tech Lab.What SplatOverflow does is put the design information, documentation, and end-user discussions, in one place, making it easier for people who might not have expertise in hardware, Kwatra told the Cornell Chronicle.The tool first creates a 3D model of the device that needs troubleshooting, with information about the model included. This allows the specialist and the user to view the scene together to identify the issue. The rendered model is called a SplatOverflow scene. It includes two parts a 3D Gaussian Splat the 3D rendering of the device that needs troubleshooting; and the computer-aided design (CAD) model, of the additional information.SplatOverflow allows experts to compare the 3D Gaussian Splat with the CAD model, to get a clearer idea of the original design and function. Credit: NASA/Frank Michaux Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreLate Saturday night, technicians at Kennedy Space Center in Florida moved the core stage for NASA's second Space Launch System rocket into position between the vehicle's two solid-fueled boosters.Working inside the iconic 52-story-tall Vehicle Assembly Building, ground teams used heavy-duty cranes to first lift the butterscotch orange core stage from its cradle in the VAB's cavernous transfer aisle, the central passageway between the building's four rocket assembly bays. The cranes then rotated the structure vertically, allowing workers to disconnect one of the cranes connected to the bottom of the rocket.That left the rocket hanging on a 325-ton overhead crane, which would lift it over the transom into the building's northeast high bay. The Boeing-built core stage weighs about 94 tons (85 metric tons), measures about 212 feet (65 meters) tall, and will contain 730,000 gallons of cryogenic propellant at liftoff. It is the single largest element for NASA's Artemis II mission, slated to ferry a crew of astronauts around the far side of the Moon as soon as next year.Finally, ground crews lowered the rocket between the Space Launch System's twin solid rocket boosters already stacked on a mobile launch platform inside High Bay 3, where NASA assembled Space Shuttles and Saturn V rockets for Apollo lunar missions.On Sunday, teams inside the VAB connected the core stage to each booster at forward and aft load-bearing attach points. After completing electrical and data connections, engineers will stack a cone-shaped adapter on top of the core stage, followed by the rocket's upper stage, another adapter ring, and finally the Orion spacecraft that will be home to the four-person Artemis II crew for their 10-day journey through deep space. Credit: NASA/Frank Michaux Through the motionsThis will be the first crewed flight of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to land astronauts on the lunar south pole and eventually build a sustainable human presence on the Moon, with an eye toward future expeditions to Mars. The program's first crewed lunar landing is penciled in for the Artemis III mission, again using SLS and Orion, but adding a new piece: SpaceX's enormous Starship rocket will be used as a human-rated lunar lander. Artemis II won't land, but it will carry people to the vicinity of the Moon for the first time since 1972.The core stage for Artemis II arrived from its factory in Louisiana last year, and NASA started stacking the SLS solid rocket boosters in November. Other recent accomplishments on the path toward Artemis II include the installation of the Orion spacecraft's solar panels, and closeouts of the craft's service module at Kennedy Space Center with aerodynamic panels that will jettison during launch.As soon as next month, the Orion spacecraft will travel to a different facility at Kennedy for fueling, then to another building to meet its Launch Abort System before moving to the VAB for stacking atop the Space Launch System. For the Artemis I mission, it took around eight months to complete these activities before delivering Orion to the VAB, so it's fair to be skeptical of NASA's target launch date for Artemis II in April 2026, which is already running years behind schedule.However, the slow march toward launch continues. A few months ago, some well-informed people in the space community thought there was a real possibility the Trump administration could quickly cancel NASA's Space Launch System, the high-priced heavy-lifter designed to send astronauts from the Earth to the Moon. The most immediate possibility involved terminating the SLS program before it flies with Artemis II.This possibility appears to have been overcome by circumstances. The rockets most often mentioned as stand-ins for the Space Launch SystemSpaceX's Starship and Blue Origin's New Glennaren't likely to be cleared for crew missions for at least several years. Credit: NASA/Rad Sinyak The fully reusable Starship holds immense long-term promise to be significantly cheaper and more capable than the Space Launch System, but it suffered back-to-back failures to start the year, raising questions about SpaceX's upgraded Starship design, known as "Version 2" or "Block 2." Once SpaceX irons out the design issues, it must prove it can recover and reuse Starships and test the vehicle's in-orbit refueling capabilities. Blue Origin's New Glenn had a successful debut flight in January, but its next flight is likely six or more months away. Neither rocket will be ready to fly people for at least several years.NASA's existing architecture still has a limited shelf life, and the agency will probably have multiple options for transporting astronauts to and from the Moon in the 2030s. A decision on the long-term future of SLS and Orion isn't expected until the Trump administration's nominee for NASA administrator, Jared Isaacman, takes office after confirmation by the Senate.So, what is the plan for SLS?There are different degrees of cancellation options. The most draconian would be an immediate order to stop work on Artemis II preparations. This is looking less likely than it did a few months ago and would come with its own costs. It would cost untold millions of dollars to disassemble and dispose of parts of Artemis II's SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft. Canceling multibillion-dollar contracts with Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin would put NASA on the hook for significant termination costs.Of course, these liabilities would be less than the $4.1 billion NASA's inspector general estimates each of the first four Artemis missions will cost. Most of that money has already been spent for Artemis II, but if NASA spends several billion dollars on each Artemis mission, there won't be much money left over to do other cool things.Other options for NASA might be to set a transition point when the Artemis program would move off of the Space Launch System rocket, and perhaps even the Orion spacecraft, and switch to new vehicles. Credit: NASA/Frank Michaux Another possibility, which seems to be low-hanging fruit for Artemis decision-makers, could be to cancel the development of a larger Exploration Upper Stage for the SLS rocket. If there are a finite number of SLS flights on NASA's schedule, it's difficult to justify the projected $5.7 billion cost of developing the upgraded Block 1B version of the Space Launch System. There are commercial options available to replace the rocket's Boeing-built Exploration Upper Stage, as my colleague Eric Berger aptly described in a feature story last year.For now, it looks like NASA's orange behemoth has a little life left in it. All the hardware for the Artemis II mission has arrived at the launch site in Florida.The Trump administration will release its fiscal year 2026 budget request in the coming weeks. Maybe, then, NASA will also have a permanent administrator, and the veil will lift over the White House's plans for Artemis. But that day, I decided to risk it, calculating I had a full hour.Forty minutes later, I stood at the cash register with a mound of jackets, jeans, and long-sleeved shirts. Triumphant for scoring $125 for three children's future winter clothing for only $125. I glanced at my phone as I handed over my debit card to the cashier. Another mom in the class had texted me: "Where are you? It's parent viewing day."My stomach dropped and I immediately felt tears sting my eyes. I pushed them back, finished paying, and rushed to the ballet class, five minutes away. Parent viewing is an annual event, a milestone following months of practice and one I'd looked forward to.In the studio, my daughter locked eyes with me. I could tell from her trembling lips that she'd been putting on a brave face in class, but she was hurt and confused by my absence, and there would be a post-class meltdown.     The Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a full reveal next week, but one leaker has revealed a whole host of new pieces of information about the console here's all we learnedTech22:53, 24 Mar 2025Nintendo Switch 2 is being fully revealed on April 2(Image: Nintendo)The Nintendo Switch 2 is so close now we can pin a preorder time on it, and in less than 10 days we'll know the console's price and its release date.We know some info about the console from Nintendo's January reveal, and subsequent leaks have pointed to a backward compatibility boost, an AI boost for visuals, the return of Amiibo, and those mice-like Joy-Con.Article continues belowNow, one leaker has said they're confident enough to predict just how powerful the machine will be, with the console reportedly hitting 3 TFLOPs of power when docked and around half of that when handheld.Just a few days until all is revealedPosting on Famiboards, SecretBoy (an account that has some history with Switch 2 leaks) said "People should really be prepared for 3 TFLOPs docked and around half that in handheld. I don't expect people to believe me, but that's what I've heard the final specs are."To unpack that, TFLOPs stands for Teraflops, and refers to a unit of measurement of processing power of a GPU. The higher the TFLOPs, the more powerful the console, but with the Xbox Series X sitting at over 12 TFLOPs and the PS5 Pro sitting at 16.7 TFLOPs, the Switch 2 won't be bothering its rivals for graphical grunt.That said, we've already explained how that's not really an issue, but with the Steam Deck offering around 1.6 TFLOPs, it sounds like Switch 2 could be comparable in power to Valve's handheld PC.That's not all SecretBoy had to say, however."I've also heard that the screen is a 120Hz LCD that supports VRR though, which is amazing because developers can optimise the handheld profiles of their games with VRR and 40 fps in mind."If the Switch 2 can run titles at 40FPS, it would balance the console's battery life with a more fluid experience than 30FPS. And, guess what?   • Amanda Seyfried Thinks Megan Foxs Character Survived Jennifers Body

    In an interview with GQ, Amanda Seyfried broke down her most iconic charactersincluding her leading role in the Diablo Cody-written Jennifers Body opposite Megan Fox. The film, directed by Karyn Kusama, wasnt an instant hit but over the years since its 2009 release has built up a solid cult fandom thats propelling talk of a sequel. In the interview, Seyfried expressed her love for the film and its universe. I cant critique this movie. Its a perfect movie. Its got balls. Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny. And we were expressing a certain angst in a very, very specific comedic way in a very specific genre. God, the special effects were so incredible, she remembered. There [were] stunts. There was like everything that you could want and girl on girl action. Jennifers Body wasnt exactly marketed to its correct audienceangsty teen girlsand Seyfried is well aware of how that worked against the film back in 2009. If the critics criticized anything, it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked. It just did and we all agree. Karyn is like a fierce advocate of women in storytelling, Seyfried said. She is able to enhance the relationships between women on film and TV. Shes able to mine everything she can and shes very, very human and shes very sensitive. But I felt like she cared deeply about this story underneath all of it. She just got it all and she put it together so beautifully and the marketing team cheapened it like it was just, you know, a romp, a gory romp. I think they ruined it and I think that Karyn and Diablo were a really good team. And Megan and I are a really good team.Thankfully the film was revisited and found innocent of the film crimes movie bros accused it of, and has since gained a cult following. It deserved its welcome as that eras entry into the pantheon of puberty as a monster genre films like Ginger Snaps before it. Could a sequel offer Jennifers Body the ultimate redemption? Seyfried hopes so. Im looking forward to the sequel, she said. Theyre working on it. I already said thumbs up. I was like, whenever youre ready, Im ready. Because I want to play [an adult version of my character] Needy. I love Needy. It also was the first time I got to play really nerdy, and Megan got to turn into a fucking demon. And it was awesome. We all just had a lot of fun. So I want to celebrate it by doing the sequel.Seyfried riffed on where she thought Needy mightve ended up. I just want to see Needy in a power position. Not necessarily in a power suit but in a power position. You know, maybe she runs her branch at Planned Parenthood or something. Shes a badass. But how can you have a Jennifers Body sequel without Megan Foxs Jennifer? After all, Needy stabbed her in the tit, er, heart at the end of the film. To that end, Seyfried teased, And I dont know, where would Megan be? Shes probably like somebodys chief of staff. But shes kind of dead, right? But is she? I dont think she is. If Needy ended up being an unreliable narrator of the events of the film and turned out to be the Will Graham to Jennifers Hannibal, we would be so dead. It would perfectly fit into the theories that abound the unspoken tension between them in their toxic relationship, and we could see that being fascinating to explore now that theyre long out of high school.
