However, the latest excitement is fueled by a series of leaked characters, with the formidable Ultron taking center stage. The notorious cybernetic antagonist, known from Avengers: Age of Ultron, has been the subject of speculation regarding his inclusion in the game.Recent leaks suggest he will take on a Strategist role, complete with a distinctive kit that boasts healing drones and energy beams. In addition to Ultron, recent datamined files have hinted at the inclusion of beloved heroes such as Blade, sporting his stylish vampire-hunting look.Furthermore, the buzz surrounding potential new characters like Deadpool, Jean Grey, and the eccentric Hit-Monkey suggests an expanding roster that draws from the rich tapestry of Marvels multiverse. But the real twist? Ultrons merchandise is already making waves online, with T-shirts featuring his Marvel Rivals design available at retailers well ahead of his anticipated debut.Ultron isnt official in Marvel Rivals yet, but you can buy his T-shirt in storesAccording to a listing on the merchandise website Hot Topic, Marvel Rivals fans can now grab the Ultron T-shirt with his leaked art printed on the front. The design of Ultron highly resembles the one players saw on leaks via dataminers such as X0X_Leak on X.Ultron shirts are going on sale in stores ahead of his Season 2 release rumors. Image by VideoGamer. You can buy the shirt for $19.12, and it comes in sizes from Small to 3X. While the hero still hasnt been made official in the game, players on social media are shocked to see actual merchandise of the character being sold online based purely on leaked designs. One such fan wrote, Could be evidence that hes releasing soon. Either they fit him in the schedule, and hes season 2, or theyve been working on him in the background, and hes the event mystery that will be revealed in a week. Thinking about it, what if Doom 2099 is having him attack Krakoa? It wouldnt be the first pair of maps where a playable character serves as the antagonist. But thats not all several players noticed the Peni Parker spray on the bottom left side of the printed graphic which raised eyebrows as one questioned, weird placement for Peni Parker logo on bottom left. However, soon another player deduced, Yeah, idk who puts these together, but my understanding of shirts like this is that Hot Topic/Amazon/Whoever gets a bunch of approved art from Marvel to use. While players decrypt whether its an official merch or not, to those unaware, Hot Topic is a website that deals in made-to-order shirts, meaning they can print any graphic on their website on a shirt of your size based on your preference that may or may not have been licensed by Marvel themselves.Marvel RivalsPlatform(s):macOS, PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series XGenre(s):Fighting, ShooterSubscribe to our newsletters!By subscribing, you agree to our Privacy Policy and may receive occasional deal communications; you can unsubscribe anytime.Share

  • 7 Underrated Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings Youve Probably Never Heard ofbut Should
    www.architecturaldigest.com
Skip to main contentAsk anyone to name the most famous American architect, and youre almost guaranteed to the hear the name Frank Lloyd Wright. And if they were to follow this up with his most influential work, theyd probably say the Guggenheim, Fallingwater, or Taliesinmaybe even the Robie House, Martin House, or SC Johnson Administrative Building, if they are more serious fans of his work. They would be right, of course. All of these buildings were incredibly important, both in Wrights career and the broader architectural tradition. But the luminary designed over 500 buildingseven more when factoring in those that were never builtmaking it easy for some of them to get lost in the monstrosity of his legacy. But many lesser-known structures deserve more recognition, starting with the below seven underrated Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.Photo: Getty Images1/7City National Bank and Park Inn Hotel (Mason City, Iowa)In the early 1900s, James E. E. Markley, a lawyer based in Mason City, Iowa, sent his children to Hillside Home School in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The school, located on the grounds of what would eventually become the Taliesin estate, was designed by Wright and run by his aunts. After becoming acquainted with the architects work, Markley and another lawyer, James E. Blythe, commissioned this multiuse building, which originally housed a bank, hotel, and the clients law office. The bank was located in the cube-shaped mass, creating a sense of solidity and security. Today the hotel is the last remaining one designed by Wright.Photo: Jim Steinfeldt/Getty Images2/7Lindholm Oil Company Service Station (Cloquette, Minnesota)In the 1930s, Wright designed a gas station as part of Broadacre City, his ambitious, decentralized suburban development. Though the community was never built, the citys gas station did make it out off of the drawing board. The architect saw the service station as the future city in embryo, which would naturally grow into a neighborhood distribution center, meeting place, restaurantor whatever else is needed, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation. A glass observation lounge in the upper level ensured the structure could be used for more than just pumping gas.Photo: Puku Pix/Getty Images3/7Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, 1921 (Tokyo, Japan)Despite being demolished, the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo is largely Wrights most famous project in Japan. Lesser known is Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, a girls school also in the nations capital. While working on the Imperial Hotel, the architects Japanese assistant, Arata Endo, introduced him to Yoshikazu and Motoko Hani. The pair founded the school with the desire to educate students in a home-like atmosphere, and Wright, inspired by their educational philosophy, accepted the commission. Its for this reason that the school bears a strong resemblance to a Prairie-style residence. However, it retains a Japanese feel too, thanks to the use of native Oya stone and its roof that appears to curve up at the eaves, similar to Japanese kirizuma.Photo: Chicago History Museum/Getty Images4/7Hanna House (Stanford, California)This is the first and best example of Wrights innovative hexagonal design, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation explains of one of the most monumental, though often underrated, Wright residential projects. Designed in 1937 with no right angles in the floor plan, the shape is similar to a honeycomb and uses a collection of six-sided figures as the basis of its design. In addition to its hexagonal geometry, the home is special in how long Wright worked on it. He continued to expand and adapt the design over 25 years to better suit the needs of the Hanna family.Photo: Raymond Boyd/Getty Images5/7Community Christian Church (Kansas City, Missouri)Wright had grand plans for Community Christian Church, which he was commissioned to design in 1940. He envisioned a building atop large pillarsreportedly similar in the shape to the supports in the S.C. Johnson buildingwith cars underneath. Wartime material shortages, financial cuts, and building codes kept some of his more grandiose ideas from taking shape, but the project was nonetheless monumental. The architect used a corrugated steel frame and sprayed concrete for the design, saying, this is a type of architecture that should be a lesson to this city. It is no mere church building, but a new order dated 10 years ahead of its time.Photo: Farrell Grehan/Getty Images6/7Beth Sholom Synagogue (Elkins Park, Pennsylvania)Commissioned in 1953, the Beth Sholom Synagogue wasnt unveiled until September 1959, five months after the architects death. The place of worship was meant to evoke the image of cupped hands, but this is only the beginning of its symbolism. As the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation explains, Its angular mountain-like profile and the purposeful ramps leading to the main sanctuary are suggestive of the ascent to Mount Sinai. The roofs three ridges display abstract representations of seven-branched Menorahs, while the entrys canopy geometrically symbolizes the hands of a rabbi joined to pronounce the benediction.Photo: Raymond Boyd/Getty Images7/7Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin)Among the most underrated Frank Lloyd Wright buildings is the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, which was one of Wrights last major commissions. In fact, he died before the project broke ground in 1961. Though inspired by Byzantine church architecture, the circular silhouette of the structure is unique, showing Wrights singular vision and his lifelong departure from the expected. Nonetheless, it still retains certain classic elements of its Byzantine precursors, such as a large dome and cross-shaped floor plan, which is created from concrete pillars that support the roof.

    www.architecturaldigest.com
Since before even officially becoming an adult, Kylie Jenners houses and glamorous lifestyle captured her fans imaginations. (Though shes more recently been in the headlines for attending awards shows with her boyfriend, Timothe Chalamet.) The young entrepreneur and founder of Kylie Cosmetics, who, according to Forbes, has a net worth of $710 million, hasnt strayed far from her Los Angeles roots, but has nevertheless amassed an impressive real estate portfolio now worth upwards of $80 million. And its no wonder why Jenner has invested so much time and money into her residencesfor all of her red carpet glam, the youngest Kardashian-Jenner sibling is still a homebody at heart. After I got pregnant, I spent so much time at home, I love it, she told Harpers Bazaar in a 2020 interview. The makeup mogul shares two childrendaughter Stormi and son Airewith ex Travis Scott. I love to lie in my bed and watch movies and forget about the world. Below, were sharing a look into some of the reality stars homes, ranging from her famously pink and sparkly pad to her more recent minimalist decor.Tuscan-style Calabasas mansionJenner was not yet 18 when she purchased her first home in 2015, in her familys favorite city of Calabasas. She purchased the Tuscan-style mansion for $2.7 million, and worked with celeb-favorite interior designer Jeff Andrews to reimagine the space to her particular aesthetic, which at the time included dramatic black hardwood flooring and high-contrast bright white walls. The impressive pad measured 4,851 square feet and comprised six bedrooms and six bathrooms. Jenner converted one of the bedrooms into an enviable glam room with mirrored walls, custom drawers, and a well-lit vanity. The monochromatic theme was carried throughout the home, including in the primary bathroom, which featured a dedicated seating area and walk-in closet. The dwelling also featured a home theater and a pool. Jenner was ready to move on from her starter home not long after that, however, putting it back on the market for $3.9 million one year later and selling it for $3.2 million in 2017.Cape Codstyle Hidden Hills padIn 2016, a little over a year after she bought her starter home, the real-estate-savvy entrepreneur paid $6 million for a Cape Codstyle mansion in Hidden Hills, officially becoming neighbors with mom Kris Jenner and sister Kim (her first home in Calabasas was closer to sisters Khlo and Kourtney). The 7,000-square-foot residence featured six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, as well as a home theater, wine cellar, four-car garage, and cavernous walk-in closet in the primary suite. The backyard looked out onto the mountains, giving the property extra privacy. The Kylie Cosmetics founder was ready for a change of pace after a brief stint there and sold the mansion at a slight profit$6.7 millionin 2018.Hidden Hills officeJenner didnt look very far for her next purchase. A few months after snapping up her first Hidden Hills mansion, she doubled-down on property in the area, buying the house next door for $4.5 million. Reports at the time suggested that Jenner bought this second home to serve as an office, with plans to keep the Cape Codstyle pad as her primary residence. Her second Hidden Hills home measured 5,200 square feet and boasted four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, with a covered patio, outdoor fireplace and grill surrounding a large pool and spaan impressive office for the flourishing Kylie Cosmetics brand. She ultimately let go of this second Hidden Hills home just one year later, selling it for $5.3 million.Third Hidden Hills propertyJenners living room, photographed for AD in 2019Photo: Douglas Friedman / Art: Damien Hirst and Science Ltd. • Texans Might Soon Have to Show Photo ID to Buy a Dildo Online

AdvertisementGo ad freeage verificationTexans Might Soon Have to Show Photo ID to Buy a Dildo Online Mar 25, 2025 at 10:27 AM A new bill introduced by Angela Paxton, wife of Texas AG Ken Paxton, would impose privacy-invading age verification requirements on online sex toy retailers. Dean Black via Unsplash / Collage via 404 Media A newly introduced bill in Texas would require online sellers to show a photo ID before buying a dildo.SB 3003, introduced by Senator Angela Paxton (wife of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton), would criminally charge online retailers for selling an obscene device without verifying the buyers age. Sellers would have to require customers to submit their government-issued photographic identification, or use third-party age verification services that use public records or other reliable sources to verify the purchaser's identity and age, the bill says. Owning a credit card, which already requires the holder to be over 18 years of age, would not be enough.Like the regressive and ineffective adult site age verification laws passing all across the country in the last few years, this law would drag Texans back to a not-so-distant time when sex toy sellers had to pretend vibrators were for massage.Hallie Lieberman, journalist and author of Buzz: A Stimulating History of the Sex Toy, sold sex toys in Texas in the early 2000s under the states six dildo law, which criminalizes the possession of six or more obscene devices, defined as "a device including a dildo or artificial vagina, designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs." That law is still on the books but is now considered unenforceable and unconstitutional. Lieberman told me sellers got around the law by claiming the toys were for medical purposes. This bill could send retailers back to that time.I can see something like that happening again, with people saying on their sex toy store websites that vibrators are for back massage and butt plugs are for rectal strengthening, Lieberman said. It's similar to how sex toys were marketed in the early 20th century to get around obscenity laws and the Comstock Act (which unfortunately still exists and may be used to prevent access to contraceptives and sex toys nationwide.) Butt plugs were sold as cures for asthma and vibrators for sciatica. We are literally going back in time with this law.Lieberman told me she had to call the clitoris the man in the boat at the time to avoid breaking the law. When we can't speak openly about our bodies and sexual pleasure, when we're forced to use euphemisms, we not only are under informed about our bodies, but we also feel shame in seeking out pleasure, she said.Like age verification laws for websites, the bill would make buying sex toys online harder for everyone, not just minors, and would send consumers to less-safe retailers with lower-quality, possibly dangerous toys. And also like those laws, people who do upload their government ID or undergo other age verification measures could risk having their purchases exposed to a hostile government. The government should not have a record of what sex toys we buy. This isn't just a frivolous concern, Lieberman said. In a nation where the president has declared that there are only two genders and that transgender people don't exist, where trans people are erased from government websites and kicked out of the military, it would be dangerous for the government to have a record that you purchased sex toys designed for trans people. Imagine you're a school teacher at a public school in Texas and there's a record you purchased a sex toy designed for queer people in a state where a parental bill of rights bill was just passed prohibiting discussion of sexual orientation in schools."We are literally going back in time with this law."Texas legislators have been trying to limit access to sex toys for their constituents for years. In late 2024, Hillary Hickland, a freshman member of Texas Republican House, introduced a bill that would ban retailers in the state from selling sex toys unless they file paperwork to become sexually oriented businesseseffectively forcing stores like Walmart, CVS and Target, which sell vibrators and other sex toys, to take those products off their shelves and forcing brick-and-mortar boutiques to verify the ages of all customers. The bill was referred to Texas Trade, Workforce & Economic Development committee earlier this month.Paxtons bill would charge online retailers with a Class A Misdemeanor if they dont verify ages, and would open them up to fines up to $5,000 for each violation.Paxton did not respond to a request for comment.Sam Cole is writing from the far reaches of the internet, about sexuality, the adult industry, online culture, and AI. • Europe is looking for alternatives to US cloud providers
    arstechnica.com
Bad forecast Europe is looking for alternatives to US cloud providers Some European cloud companies have seen an increase in business. Matt Burgess, wired.com Mar 25, 2025 9:12 am | 27 Credit: Getty Images Credit: Getty Images Story textSizeSmallStandardLargeWidth *StandardWideLinksStandardOrange* Subscribers only Learn moreThe global backlash against the second Donald Trump administration keeps on growing. Canadians have boycotted US-made products, antiElon Musk posters have appeared across London amid widespread Tesla protests, and European officials have drastically increased military spending as US support for Ukraine falters. Dominant US tech services may be the next focus. There are early signs that some European companies and governments are souring on their use of American cloud services provided by the three so-called hyperscalers. Between them, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) host vast swathes of the Internet and keep thousands of businesses running. However, some organizations appear to be reconsidering their use of these companies cloud servicesincluding servers, storage, and databasesciting uncertainties around privacy and data access fears under the Trump administration.Theres a huge appetite in Europe to de-risk or decouple the over-dependence on US tech companies, because there is a concern that they could be weaponized against European interests, says Marietje Schaake, a nonresident fellow at Stanfords Cyber Policy Center and a former decadelong member of the European Parliament. The moves may already be underway. On March 18, politicians in the Netherlands House of Representatives passed eight motions asking the government to reduce reliance on US tech companies and move to European alternatives. Days before, more than 100 organizations signed an open letter to European officials calling for the continent to become more technologically independent and saying the status quo creates security and reliability risks. Two European-based cloud service companies, Exoscale and Elastx, tell WIRED they have seen an uptick in potential customers looking to abandon US cloud providers over the last two weekswith some already starting to make the jump. Multiple technology advisers say they are having widespread discussions about what it would take to uproot services, data, and systems. We have more demand from across Europe, says Mathias Nbauer, the CEO of Swiss-based hosting provider Exoscale, adding there has been an increase in new customers seeking to move away from cloud giants. Some customers were very explicit, Nbauer says. Especially customers from Denmark being very explicit that they want to move away from US hyperscalers because of the US administration and what they said about Greenland. It's a big worry about the uncertainty around everything. And from the Europeans perspectivethat the US is maybe not on the same team as us any longer, says Joakim hman, the CEO of Swedish cloud provider Elastx. Those are the drivers that bring people or organizations to look at alternatives.Concerns have been raised about the current data-sharing agreement between the EU and US, which is designed to allow information to move between the two continents while protecting peoples rights. Multiple previous versions of the agreement have been struck down by European courts. At the end of January, Trump fired three Democrats from the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB), which helps manage the current agreement. The move could undermine or increase uncertainty around the agreement. In addition, hman says, he has heard concerns from firms about the CLOUD Act, which can allow US law enforcement to subpoena user data from tech companies, potentially including data that is stored in systems outside of the US.Dave Cottlehuber, the founder of SkunkWerks, a small tech infrastructure firm in Austria, says he has been moving the companys few servers and databases away from US providers to European services since the start of the year. First and foremost, its about values, Cottlehuber says. For me, privacy is a right not a privilege. Cottlehuber says the decision to move is easier for a small business such as his, but he argues it removes some taxes that are paid to the Trump administration. The best thing I can do is to remove that small contribution of mine, and also at the same time, make sure that my customers privacy is respected and preserved, Cottlehuber says.Steffen Schmidt, the CEO of Medicusdata, a company that provides text-to-speech services to doctors and hospitals in Europe, says that having data in Europe has always been a must, but his customers have been asking for more in recent weeks. Since the beginning of 2025, in addition to data residency guarantees, customers have actively asked us to use cloud providers that are natively European companies, Schmidt says, adding that some of his services have been moved to Nbauers Exoscale.Harry Staight, a spokesperson for AWS, says it is not accurate that customers are moving from AWS to EU alternatives. Our customers have control over where they store their data and how it is encrypted, and we make the AWS Cloud sovereign-by-design, Staight says. AWS services support encryption with customer managed keys that are inaccessible to AWS, which means customers have complete control of who accesses their data. Staight says the membership of the PCLOB does not impact the agreements around EU-US data sharing and that the CLOUD Act has additional safeguards for cloud content. Google and Microsoft declined to comment. The potential shift away from US tech firms is not just linked to cloud providers. Since January 15, visitors to the European Alternatives website increased more than 1,200 percent. The site lists everything from music streaming services to DDoS protection tools, says Marko Saric, a cofounder of European cloud analytics service Plausible. We can certainly feel that something is going on, Saric says, claiming that during the first 18 days of March the company has beaten the net recurring revenue growth it saw in January and February. This is organic growth which cannot be explained by any seasonality or our activities, he says. While there are signs of movement, the impact is likely to be smallat least for now. Around the world, governments and businesses use multiple cloud servicessuch as authentication measures, hosting, data storage, and increasingly data centers providing AI processingfrom the big three cloud and tech service providers. Cottlehuber says that, for large businesses, it may take many months, if not longer, to consider what needs to be moved, the risks involved, plus actually changing systems. What happens if you have a hundred petabytes of storage, it's going to take years to move over the Internet, he says. For years, European companies have struggled to compete with the likes of Google, Microsoft, and Amazons cloud services and technical infrastructure, which make billions every year. It may also be difficult to find similar services on the scale of those provided by alternative European cloud firms. If you are deep into the hyperscaler cloud ecosystem, youll struggle to find equivalent services elsewhere, says Bert Hubert, an entrepreneur and former government regulator, who says he has heard of multiple new cloud migrations to US firms being put on hold or reconsidered. Hubert has argued that it is no longer safe for European governments to be moved to US clouds and that European alternatives cant properly compete. We sell a lot of fine wood here in Europe. But not that much furniture, he says. However, that too could change.Schaake, the former member of the European Parliament, says a combination of new investments, a different approach to buying public services, and a Europe-first approach or investing in a European technology stack could help to stimulate any wider moves on the continent. The dramatic shift of the Trump administration is very tangible, Schaake says. The idea that anything could happen and that Europe should fend for itself is clear. Now we need to see the same kind of pace and leadership that we see with defense to actually turn this into meaningful action. This story originally appeared on wired.com.Matt Burgess, wired.com Wired.com is your essential daily guide to what's next, delivering the most original and complete take you'll find anywhere on innovation's impact on technology, science, business and culture. 27 Comments

  • 12 years (and 2000 hours) later, Warframe remains an MMO like no other

Shoot for the stars12 years (and 2000 hours) later, Warframe remains an MMO like no other2,000 hours and still no Despair drop, by the way - even after the drop rate boost.Image credit: VG247 Article by Connor Makar Staff Writer Published on March 25, 2025 12 years ago, a little game called Warframe was released to the world. I, 15 years old and not yet down bad for sci-fi in general, gave the game a cursorary look to see what was up. I confess, that original version of Warframe did not win me over. I can't remember why, but knowing what I was like back then, I probably saw all those damage numbers and it made me think of my maths exam. These days, I think about going back in time and DDTing my younger self until he bought the founders pack before the game came out for that sweet, sweet Excalibur Prime. You see, future Connor has sunk 2000 hours into Warframe. He's farmed for Ash, the old way. He grinded out the Nechramech alongside dozens of other miserable people, and he found himself awake at 2am gathering Cryotic for the Sibear, only to max it out for a tiny pile of mastery points and throw it away. If none of that makes sense don't panic, it means there's still hope.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. In those 2,000 hours I've had a lot of time to think about why I dig it so much, and I've broken it down to three main factors. These weave around in importance every few months, but right now, it's the community. Warframe has the nicest gaggle of horny weirdos hanging around it I've ever seen. Jumping into a Discord or in-game Clan feels like spending lunch in the school computer lab. I've only been called an asshole once (during a Relic extraction mission where I - knackered as the sun was coming up, disappointed in me - wasted like five minutes of our collective lives). Compare that to wasting five minutes of a World of Warcraft M+ dungeon run and you're comparing a hydrogen bomb to a coughing baby. But there's also the feel of Warframe. It's fast, hella fast. You dart through missions at a breakneck pace that, while I accept may be a bit much for new players, is catnip for oldies. Race through a mission, then do a little dance at the end with the gang. There's nothing like it. But on top of being fast, Warframe is also heavy. You slam into enemies with a thunderous crash, abilities rupture out from techno-organic arms. I could throw my Wolf Sledge at random enemies all day. And sometimes, I do literally do that.I don't know how the team at Digital Extremes manages to blend light movement and heavy action so well, but it's such a sturdy hook to the whole experience. Word is, Steve Sinclair waited for a full moon and took what was left of the Dark Sector money to Ivey Park. There, he gave it to a moose, who agreed to grant the team the wisdom they sought in return for his immortal soul and (a major role in Soulframe). It's unclear whether Rebecca Ford had to do something similar back in 2022, but all in all it seems like a decent trade. 12 years is a long time in gaming. | Image credit: Digital ExtremesFinally there's the look of the whole thing. Warframe is a visual oddity. An astronautical battle-hardened tragicomedic soup, and like all soups built upon a strong mirepoix, a foundation on which the team can just go "Boybands? Yeah sure f*ck it why not". That foundation is rooted deep in sci-fi - in Dune and retro anime. An art direction pioneered by Michael 'Mynki' Brennan (who sadly passed away late last year) and carried on with passion and vigour by a powerful art team. It's the glue that holds it all together. All of these lead me to a personal reality I've long accepted; Warframe is my favourite MMO. Hands down. It's a weird anomaly in the genre. It doesn't play like anything else, it doesn't look like anything else. The game has a voice that is somehow both very contemporary and forward-thinking. To me, it's not a mystery why the game has survived 12 years. During this era of game development, when it feels like there's more pressure ever to conform, to play it safe, Warframe has screamed "no".Here's to another 12 years.

  • Civilization 7 update 1.1.1 is now here, bringing new features and more UI polish, as outlined in this dev video that at one point features some slightly dodgy text spacing

UnfortunateTimingCivilization 7 update 1.1.1 is now here, bringing new features and more UI polish, as outlined in this dev video that at one point features some slightly dodgy text spacingTo be fair, the best of us can occasionally miss hitting the space bar when we mean to.Image credit: Firaxis News by Mark Warren Senior Staff Writer Published on March 25, 2025 The second of the two big March updates Civilization 7 developer Firaxis revealed would be coming last month has dropped today, March 25. It adds some new features and continues the effort to fix and change elements of the game folks didn't like, such as the UI.As you might expect, the studio's put out a developer video going through the changes alongside the proper patch notes, and it's a good watch, though there is one bit that fans have picked up on for a pretty awkward reason given the whole UI gripes context. Basically, it features some little text spacing mistakes, which aren't end of the world, but are technically UI things Firaxis hasn't executed that well.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Yep, towards the end of Civ 7 creative director Ed Beach giving us all the lowdown on this new update, there's a text box about some changes to the Railroad Tycoon legacy path, and as players on the Civ subreddit spotted, it features a few instances of words not being spaced out as they should. There are two bits that read 'increasedfrom' and also a 'givesa'. Nothing too bad, but yeah, not ideal given the game's situation. This bulleted list being centrally aligned is also drawing some criticism from civvers, whose confidence in Firaxis' ability to rectify the in-game UI issues that've been a part of the game's mixed reception so far hasn't exactly been boosted by this. "In the grand scheme of things, this graphic should be a very minor thing," one wrote, "but it speaks to the greater point of Firaxis not knowing literally anything about design."Watch on YouTubeThat aside, when it comes to what Update 1.1.1 includes, the previously announced stuff like more UI improvements and refinements, Mount Everest, improvements to how the AI scouts and settles, and the ability to give your cities and commanders custom names like 'Minecraftmovieland' and 'Jack Black dressed as Steve' are all there. There's also the Quick Move setting, which lets you disable unit movement animations to speed up gameplay, and a restart button you can press from the pause menu if you want to start over "within the first few turns of a new game".As for what the future of the game looks like update-wise from here, Firaxis added that it's "still hard at work on Update 1.2.0, currently planned to deploy in April (subject to change)", and said that "you can expect plenty more major updates in the months to come".If you're still on the fence about trying Civ 7, make sure to check out our review of it, which dissects all the stuff it does differently to its predecessors.

  • Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 To Launch In June With 3-Phase Software Plan
    www.nintendolife.com
Image: NintendoThere's just over one more week to go until Nintendo lifts the lid on the Nintendo Switch 2 with its upcoming Direct presentation on 2nd April, but we've got room for another rumour or two right? The latest comes from Insider Gaming, who claims via multiple conversations during GDC in San Francisco that Nintendo is planning to launch the Switch 2 in June, roughly two months following its Direct. This would line up quite nicely with how it approached the launch of the original Switch, though to our knowledge, the last major console to release in the month of June was the N64 in Japan. Will Nintendo really follow suit with the Switch 2?Not only that, but Nintendo will supposedly implement a three-phase plan for its Switch 2 software, with first-party titles getting top priority during the initial launch. Following this, phase two will commence in October / November and allow for titles from third-party publishers to shine. As part of this, it's said that developers will receive dev kits in June. Finally, the third phase essentially covers the Christmas period, which presumably would allow both Nintendo and third-party publishers to unleash some major titles.Overall, aspects of this sound plausible, but we're not completely convinced. First of all, while we can certainly imagine dev kits being sent to indie developers in June, we have to imagine that some of the major publishers (i.e. Activision, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft etc) will have had their hands on dev kits for some time now. Frankly, the notion of the Switch 2 launching with no third-party games is a bit ridiculous. On the flip side, it strikes us that development for the Switch 2 would be comparatively straightforward compared to previous generations, so Nintendo holding back dev kits until the last minute wouldn't be completely out of the question. Our recent interview with Llamasoft revealed that not even Jeff Minter has managed to bag one yet.Whatever happens, we remain confident that the Switch 2 will play host to a wide variety of games from major developers and indies alike. Whether these come at launch or are staggered throughout the year, we reckon we'll be eating well once the console finally drops. Last year was just a warm upSalt, pinchedWhat do you make of this apparent three-phase software plan? Does it sound plausible to you?
