• Google to pay $100 million to settle 14-year-old advertising lawsuit
    www.theverge.com
Google will pay $100 million to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the company of charging for clicks on ads placed outside the geographic locations selected by advertisers, as reported earlier by Reuters. The proposed settlement was filed in a California court on Thursday and still requires approval by a judge. The lawsuit, first filed in 2011, centers around Google Adwords now called Google Ads and claimed Google broke Californias Unfair Competition law by misleading advertisers about the locations it would show their ads. It also alleged Google didnt follow through on its promise to provide Smart Pricing discounts. This case was about ad product features we changed over a decade ago and were pleased its resolved, Google spokesperson Jos Castaeda said in an emailed statement to The Verge.Google has even bigger legal challenges with a federal antitrust lawsuit that could force it to sell Chrome. It also faced trial over the DOJs other lawsuit that accused it of creating a monopoly in the advertising technology industry. The settlement comes after extensive fact discovery, which counsel for the plaintiffs say involved reviewing more than 910,000 pages of documents and multiple terabytes of click data from Google. The class includes advertisers who used Googles AdWords program between June 1, 2009 and December 13, 2012.

  • Helldivers 2 is locking out players who use older CPUs
    www.theverge.com
Some Helldivers 2 players are reporting that they can no longer play the game on their computers equipped with older CPUs. The issue stems from the developer Arrowhead Game Studios and publisher Sonys requirement that users play on systems that support AVX2 (Advanced Vector Extensions), which has been a feature in many CPUs since 2013. However, the requirement was not properly enforced in the software, allowing some players with older hardware to play the game since it was launched for PC last year. Now, Arrowhead is working on fixing the issue after the backlash. As reported by Eurogamer, players on the Helldivers 2 Discord server have voiced their displeasure with suddenly not being able to launch a game they have paid for and have been playing. 600+ hours in a game I love just to be locked out is making me so frustrated to the point I just want to ask for a refund instead of fixing their mistakes, said a user.Server moderator Birby responded to some of those complaining and explained that the AVX2 check in the script is experimental, and can throw false positives. The moderator blamed users for not following the stated minimum system requirements. I dont like to have to tell people their 13 year old processor is out of date, said the moderator. You should never be surprised if your out of spec machine cant run the game.Still, players with the older CPUs likely have PCs or laptops that arent upgradable, so they will need to prepare to spend a lot of money on a totally new system.Later in the day, Arrowhead Game Studios community manager Baskinator wrote on Discord: Regarding the AVX2 issue, we are currently working on a fix for this. Thank you for being patient, and I apologize for the struggles youve had in the meantime. This isnt Sonys first unpopular move made on PC Helldivers 2 players. Last year the company had forced PSN account requirements for PC users, but then pulled back after all the negative reviews on Steam.Update March 28th: Added that Arrowhead Games Studios is now working on a fix.See More:

That's a great price for a newly released GPU that stands toe to toe with an RTX 5070 Ti (or RTX 4080), which could easily run you well over $2,000 in this absurd market. The Best Deal Today: RX 9070 XT Prebuilt for $1599.999070 XTSkytech Blaze4 AMD Ryzen 7 7700 RX 9070 XT Gaming PC (16GB/1TB)This Skytech gaming PC is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 processor, Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and 1TB M.2 SSD. This is a pretty nicely thought out configuration, with a competent AMD processor and DDR5 RAM with an optimal DDR5-6000MHz speed rating. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700 features a max boost clock speed of 5.3GHz with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 32MB L2 cache. You won't see much of a gaming performance uplift if you were to go for a newer Ryzen 7 or even a Ryzen 9 processor, especially at higher resolutions. Going by the photos, a 360mm aio liquid cooling system keeps CPU temps down. The entire system is powered by a generous 850W 80PLUS Gold power supply. The Radeon RX 9070 XT Received a 10/10 at IGNWe rated the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT a "perfect" 10/10. Even though it costs $150 less than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, the 9070 XT beats it out in several of the games we tested. In a few benchmarks, the results aren't even close. The 9070 XT also has 16GB of VRAM, the same as the 9070 and 5070 Ti.AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Review by Jacqueline Thomas"PC Gaming has been in a decadent spiral since 2020, and the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT is a reminder that it doesnt have to be that way. This graphics card has no problem maxing out any game you throw at it at 4K, even with ray tracing enabled, and does so at a price that makes the competition look downright greedy. I cant predict the future, so only time will tell if the launch price holds up. • Ex-PlayStation Exec Says NieR: Automata Revived the Japanese Games Industry, Convinced It To Stop Chasing Overseas Trend
    www.ign.com
NieR:Automata brought a lot of attention to the series and its creators, but it may have also had some greater ramifications for the industry. In a new interview, former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida said he thinks NieR: Automata "revived" the Japanese game industry. In an interview with AVWatch (as translated by Genki_JPN), Yoshida said the Japanese games industry was struggling after chasing overseas trends in the PlayStation 3 era. He said he thought director Yoko Taro made NieR: Automata without thinking whether or not it would sell overseas."From there, it became clear that Japanese creators were making 'Japanese things' and those things were selling overseas," Yoshida said. "Everyone realized that with NieR.""It was just a matter of saying 'it's okay to do it like that,' but 'we have to do it like that,'" Yoshida continued. "So the direction of Japanese creators became 'let's stop imitating overseas countries anymore,' 'if we create things with our own culture and that we understand, they will understand it overseas.'""I think the Japanese game industry was revived after NieR so much so that I would say it was before NieR and after NieR," Yoshida said. "To put it simply, I think NieR: Automata was the title that made people realize 'let's make something Japanese.'"PlayNieR: Automata has been, by all accounts, a success for publisher Square Enix and the creative team behind the game, including Yoko Taro. It's spawned an anime adaptation and a flurry of cameos for popular protagonist 2B, in everything from Fall Guys to Soulcalibur. The future of the series seems a bit unclear, as of this writing. While the mobile game NieR: Reincarnation may well have been the NieR 3 fans were waiting for, it was also shut down last April. The creative team has worked on a handful of other projects too, like the card-driven RPG Voice of Cards, but NieR fans are still waiting for the next premium game.Regardless, Yoshida saw a shifting of the tides with NieR: Automata. Given how popular the game is today, I'm inclined to agree. Hopefully we see more from NieR soon, but now, as we're roughly eight years removed from its original 2017 launch date, it's a nice recognition of Automata's already-tangible legacy.Eric is a freelance writer for IGN.

  • WEBTOON Unscrolleds Viral Hit Is A Must-Read Modern Classic
    www.denofgeek.com
Its always exciting when a great title comes along at the absolute perfect time and it feels like everything aligns for the story to hit even harder. WEBTOON Unscrolleds Viral Hit, created by Taejun Pak and illustrated by Kim Junghyun, is an exciting breath of fresh air that presents a simple premise in a rewarding way. Hobin Yu is a scrawny high school student who is constantly bullied, despite minding his own business and keeping his head down while he struggles to pay his moms mounting hospital bills.Hobin finds himself in a unique situation where he gets pushed too far and starts beating someone up, only for this act of violence to get recorded and uploaded to NewTube, which makes him a viral sensation. Soon, Hobin is pulling in huge revenue from his NewTube streaming, which finally means that he can pay his moms bills. However, he needs to take on progressively stronger bullies to appease his channels fans, all while he communicates with a mysterious streamer who helps him with his cause.Viral Hit is kind of like Fight Club or Megalo Box meets Oshi no Ko, with some Solo Leveling thrown in for good measure. Its a unique entity because its able to indulge in constant action, but through an interesting lens because Hobin isnt driven by any desire to become stronger or intimidate others. All of this is done to help his mother. Its a fascinating angle for an underdog action story, which are plentiful with Webtoon Unscrolled graphic novels.Whats also so appealing is that Viral Hit becomes the ultimate character study. The audience truly loves Hobin, cares for him, and wants to see him succeed. However, theres an understandable concern that the endless NewTube fighting is gradually turning him into a more hardened individual. He begins this adventure as someone who fights against his will, but theres a growing concern that he begins to relish this combat and the money that he makes for his mom is just a nice bonus. While Viral Hit gets pretty dark, theres also a rich sense of humor in the storytelling and an earnestness when it comes to Hobins efforts to make headway with his crush. The story is full of action, which is frequently its priority, but it makes sure to present a broader tone that isnt afraid to get silly and pull at the readers heartstrings.Viral Hit teases enough romance and slice of life situations that balance out the more aggressive ideas.Viral Hit delivers an impact because it tells a heightened story that almost feels like the natural extension of where the world is at right now. Its tragic that the only way that Hobin can help his mother is through streamed fighting, but it reflects societys desperation. Hobin is so lovable and relatable because he feels stuck in an oppressed system where all he wants to do is provide for his family. The comic explores fame and fortune, but these arent what initially drive Hobin. Its a selfless, altruistic quest thats more a reflection of society and the Top 1% than himself. He wouldnt be doing any of this if there wasnt an audience for it, which is such rich, timely material for Viral Hit to explore.Hobin is dependent upon society for views and therefore revenue but theres also a level of disdain for the people who desire this twisted material. Viral Hit has interesting things to say about how people engage with fandom and how this level of communication is crucial to evolve. During a time in which so many anime and manga are set in fantasy worlds or some version of the world thats too far removed from reality, its staggering to get a series like Viral Hit thats not only grounded, but critical and introspective of the current world.Viral Hit digs far deeper than many of its peers that examine comparable material. Its a title that constitutes endless dissection and discussion, which makes it all the more convenient that Viral Hit now exists as a WEBTOON Unscrolled graphic novel. Viral Hits first volume is available April 1, 2025 and its the perfect way to get into the ground floor of whats likely to be one of 2025s standout titles.

    news.xbox.com
SummaryUnleash chaos across three worlds as part of a greater cosmic storm.Discover the hidden connections between three DCF games as you challenge fate itself.Fight for blood, blaze through a crime-fueled bullet hell, and defend an alien kingdom. At first glance, Bunny Battle Nemesis, Tony and Clyde, and Cruz Brothers may seem like three wildly different games. A futuristic war waged by alien rabbits, a crime-fueled bullet hell, and a brutal fight circuit where warriors fight for blood. But in the DCF Universe, nothing happens in isolation. The smallest spark can send shockwaves across worlds. A trickster gods prank, a heist gone wrong, and a fighter chasing glory in the Pride Fists tournament. It twists fate in ways no one could predict. And now, in the Triple Trouble Bundle, you are at the center of this storm. And this storm is not just about stabs, slashes, jabs, blasts, and empty clips. Broken noses, flying teeth, and shattered ribs. It is about more than just blood splats, shotgun blasts, and smashed bottles. High-speed chases, bank heists, and last-second dodges. And its much more than the smell of gunpowder burned in the morning mixed with sweat, blood, and tears. The DCF Universe goes beyond all the violence and the endless struggle for survival. It is about proving ones worth in the eyes of the Allfather, Orochi. As the creator of existence, Orochi established that only those warriors who embody honor, courage, and perseverance may enter his realm and cross the gates of Valhalla. But this is not just a myth buried in this cosmic lore. It is something players can unravel firsthand in Cruz Brothers, the first game released from the DCF Universe. Through the in-game collectible DCFU Cards, players unlock fragments of the universes secrets, revealing how Orochi and the Creator Gods gave birth to existence and, eventually, to the homo sapiens.Creator Gods? Sounds a bit over the top, right? But dont worry, you will be seeing them all over this bundle. They have been heating things up since Cruz Brothers and now they are causing even more trouble in Bunny Battle Nemesis.Legends say that one morning, Loki Orochison woke up and thought, What a laugh wed have if I freed one of my sisters Maidens and sent her off to cause some chaos? Too right, mate? But lets just say, the Leporidae are not laughing. And that Maiden was Amanda. Once a prisoner among the Maidens, now, she has invaded the Leporidae Kingdom. Not to thank Loki for his trickery, but to take revenge on the one who bound her in chains, the Goddess of Death, Hell Ella, by striking at her beloved children, the Leporidae, on their own planet. Now, the Leporidae warriors are fighting for their survival, standing against Amanda and her Mamba Rangers who threaten their home planet. And you, as the player, will be their guiding hand on the battlefield of Bunny Battle Nemesis. You can also fight back by stepping into the shoes of Valentina, another of Hell Ellas Maidens. But unlike Amanda, she has not gone rogue. In fact, she is deeply grateful to Hell Ella for saving her from a cruel fate, one that played out far from the Leporidae Kingdom, in a world of outlaws, chaos, and relentless gunfights in Tony and Clyde. You see, in the DCF Universe, nothing happens in isolation. The Triple Trouble Bundle isnt just a collection of games, it is three different perspectives on a storm of chaos. A fighter proving their worth in the Pride Fists tournament, outlaws carving their own path in a crime-fueled bullet hell, and an alien kingdom resisting a war sparked by a trickster god. • 33 Inspiring Garden Trellis Ideas for Spring
    www.elledecor.com
When you picture a formal garden, what comes to mind? Perhaps you imagine berms, overflowing with spring flowers. Maybe you envision a fountain, set at the confluence of gravel paths. Possibly, if youve toured some of Europes great gardens, youll also envision an elaborate trellis, covered in fragrant rose blossoms. Indeed, trellisworkor treillage, if youre feeling fancyhas been a beloved garden feature for centuries. Andif youve always dreamed of planting one yourselfyou wouldnt be alone in your admiration: Pliny the Younger described vine-covered pergolas as early as the first century. Back in 1625, Francis Bacon described lattice carpentry work as an ideal feature of a garden. Walt Whitman yearned for trellises in his 1855 book of poems Leaves of Grass. Even if your version of Pliny the Youngers lavish villa looks more like a cramped urban patio or raised beds on a slab of concrete, a garden trellis is a pretty way to update your spacewhether youre looking for a space-saving way to add greenery or cover up that unsightly wall or fence. What Is a Trellis, Actually? A trellis is typically an interwoven frameworkThe Oxford Companion to the Garden describes it as a crisscross screen of slender wooden rods or stripsused for training viny plants. While their use can be traced back to antiquity, trellises became extremely popular by the Renaissance. French gardeners, however, took treillage to the next level. In the 17th-century, landscape architect Andr Le Ntre built elaborate trellises for Louis XIVs elaborate gardens at Versailles. Here, at the apex of their fashion, trellises went on steroids, morphing into elaborate outdoors rooms and tunnels. The Oxford Companion to the Garden notes that the jardinier treillageur was the highest rank of gardener at Versailles. Today, your garden-variety trellis is usually a simple lattice frame. It can take the shape of an arbor, pergola, or pavilion at its fanciest, or prop up a climbing plant in a planter at its simplest. You can spot trellises indoors too, though these are usually strictly decorative wall treillage. What to Plant on a Trellis Trellises are designed for climbing plants. Just what climbing plant you choose depends on your spaces lighting conditions, climate, and personal taste, but possibilities abound. Want a romantic vibe? Go for climbing roses. Want a dreamy fragrance? Try star jasmine. Looking for a retreat straight out of the English countryside? Plant wisteria. Even if you dont have a backyard, you can get a mini indoor trellis for viny house plants, like pothos plants. Still not sure where to start? Below weve outlined the prettiest trellis ideas, whether youre looking to spruce up your patio or create your very own Versailles. 1Simple Backyard Trellis Paul CostelloOne of the best benefits of trelliswork is its ability to cover an unsightly wall in a blanket of green. Designer Sara Ruffin Costello uses the tactic beautifully in her New Orleans home, where a wire lattice hosts delicate vines. Combined with planters and even a small tree, this look is giving whole new meaning to urban jungle. Shop the Look2The Espaliered Fruit TrellisClive Nichols//Getty ImagesOne of the most classic tricks of an English garden is the use of a rustic brick wall to espalier a fruit tree: The branches are trained to grow flat, typically in a pattern, creating a visually arresting geometry on an otherwise plain surface. This method also makes the fruit easy to harvest. Shop the LookAdvertisement - Continue Reading Below3Simple Trellis John M. HallThe contessa may be barefoot, but her garden shed is anything but. Stern and interior designer Ellie Cullman, a low trellis for a creeping vine creates a barrier between deck and patio while enhancing the topography visible from inside the house. Yes, if you add a bougainvillea-covered arch! Here, fashion maven Liz Lange tapped her bestie Jonathan Adler to create the Palm Beach house of her dreams. She wanted a surreal fantasy where nothing bad could ever happen, Lange tells us. And nobody gets that better than Jonathan.Shop the Look6Rustic Trellis Dominique NabokovTheres something delightfully chic about this slightly disheveled French country home (no coincidence, its just outside Versailles). But thats precisely what its owner, the fashion designer Agns b., loves. Here, the garden is mostly let to run wild, including the vines that cover the house and race up a rustic arbor above the entry. Shop the LookAdvertisement - Continue Reading Below7A Trellis Calling from Inside the HouseRicardo LabougleIf you are so lucky to find yourself with an indoor, open-air courtyard, try mounting lattice or other creeper-friendly apparatuses in places that will allow vines to cascade, like in this plant-filled atrium at the center of Vik Muniz and Malu Barrettos studio building in Salvador, Brazil, designed with architect Brenda Bello and landscape designer Alex S.Shop the Look8House-Enveloping Trellis Heritage Images//Getty ImagesLike evolution, some gardening ideas are about the survival of the fittest. Just ask London-based garden designer Butter Wakefield, who transformed this urban patio into a country-chic oasis. Here, a trellis adds visual interest to an otherwise hum-drum wall, thanks to finials, lighting, and an edgy black paint job. Bonus points for the elegant water feature. We happily will beneath this beaut! Shop the Look18Go Barely There with a Stainless Steel GridMarlene PixleyAs this garden designed by Janice Parker proves, opposites attract. A clean, modern stainless steel trellis of cables looks beautiful on a rustic wall, as well as on a smooth surface planted with white climbing roses, the landscape architect explains. Not only are thin stainless steel wires strong enough to support your growing flora, but they look almost invisible when paired with a textured wall. Just be careful about where you put the (ahem) petal to the metal. We [dont] put the trellis on the side of a painted wood surface of a house or a barn, as when it comes time to repaint the structure, it becomes very difficult, Parker adds.Shop the LookAdvertisement - Continue Reading Below19Create ContrastJane BeilesIf you want to make your trellis pop, consider affixing a thick wooden structure to your garage or barn. A trellis is a timeless way to create architectural interest in a garden, as well as showcase a plethora of flowering vines, designer Kristina Phillips explains. They evoke a sort of romantic English garden feeland can be kept clipped or left rambling. Though the white roses here certainly speak for themselves, the bold lattice creates a country contrast as you wait for those flowers to bloom.Shop the Look20Make a MomentNEIL LANDINO JR.You dont need to have an opulent water fountain or pergola to elevate your gardens design. Instead, let your trellis work overtime to deliver on form and function. • 8 Home Trends That Are Tragically DEAD to the Design World
    www.housebeautiful.com
Like any expression of style or aesthetic sensibility, interior design trends come and go. Right now we're in the grips of officecore, which also happens to be a recession indicator; later in the year, it will likely be something else. The trouble is some interior trends were so overused, so heinous (to some!) that they're effectively dead to the rest of the design world. We all have some skeletons in our closet that remind us of the clothing fads we never should have indulged inand if you're an interior design professional, and you've been at it long enough, some of those regrettable design choices are bound to show up in your living room, too. We asked six brave designers to tell us the design trends that are effectively dead and buried. They stepped up and revealed what makes them cringealong with the styles and pieces that are so timeless, they'll never die out. Related StoriesTrends That Are Dead to DesignersHead-to-Toe Midcentury Modernonurdongel//Getty Images Before you get miffed that midcentury modern furniture is on this list of regrets, just know that the two designers who said this both recognize that the MCM aesthetic has its placeas long as there are other elements mixed in. "About a decade ago, the resurgence of MCM design was everywhere, and for our generation, it felt somewhat nostalgic as we grew up with our grandparents' homes being MCM time capsules," Mark Schubert of Phillip Harrison Interiors says. However, the design market was oversaturated by the look. Vintage pieces were everywhere and then the aesthetic turned up in new collections by high-end and fast-furniture companies alike.Designer Allison Handler agrees. "As my style and aesthetic has evolved, I really cringe at going all in on this style/trend a few years back." However, she says that she'd still include midcentury modern pieces as long as she was able to mix in other design styles and transitional pieces, like warmer fabrics and textures, to soften the lines. Chevron-Patterned UpholsteryDaniel Cortez//Getty ImagesAnyone alive and coherent in the 2000s likely had a very close relationship with the chevron trend. Designer Amy Elbaum of AE Design sure remembers it. "Looking back on the trend, I completely regret the style because chevron is such a bold pattern and usually includes high-contrast colors that make this type of fabric tire very quickly over time due to its intensity," she explains. She also points out that chevron fabric doesn't easily transition into other design styles because it's such a modern and dominant pattern. Ikat FabricDaniel Cortez//Getty ImagesMikel Welch says that a trend he "dove into with full enthusiasm was Ikat fabric." No vintage piece he found was safe from reupholstery in this bold, intricate fabric. "Today, I cant help but cringe when I see photos of that phasethose loud, busy designs dont resonate with me anymore," he adds. With his more minimalist approach today, the Ikat material simply feels too chaotic and less sophisticated than his preferred aesthetic now. Buddha-Inspired FurnitureCavan Images//Getty ImagesWelch adds that another trend he got swept up in early in his design career was Buddha-inspired furniture, including a red Buddha chair he used in a model home project. "Back then, I thought it was a cool, artistic statement, but I didnt fully understand the cultural weight behind it," he explains. "Reflecting on it now, I realize how shallow that choice was, and I cant help but laugh at how misguided it was." Welch parting ways with that project, which he recognizes was probably for the best. "It was a design choice that lacked depth and respect, and Ive learned so much from that experience." Cheap Chrome PiecesKwanchai_Khammuean//Getty ImagesDesigner Ali Budd looks back with regret on the phase in which she used low-quality chrome pieces in clients' homes. Rather than the general price of the items though, what bothers her the most now is the fact that they were typically knock-off versions of iconic furniture. "Its not about trendsits about integrity," she says. Over-the-Top Glam FurnitureVostok//Getty ImagesExcessively glam furniture pieces have fallen out of favor with designer Kristy Turner of Melanie Turner Interiors. "It used to be the go-to for adding instant luxury, but now it feels a bit dated and heavy-handed," she says. The over-the-top shine and ornamentation isn't in style anymorepeople are generally turning to more understated elegance instead, with sleek lines, natural materials, and a timeless vibe. Jewel-Toned Velvet SofasDaniel Cortez//Getty ImagesIt may be a bit controversial, but designer Alicia Held-Morris of Morris Lare Interior Design says that these once-beloved couches have not stood the test of time. "We love a good jewel-tone moment in the right interior, but not all velvets are created equal," she explains. "Some velvets, particularly cotton, crush easily, show wear rapidly, and dont hide any stains." Those issues combined with a rich tone shows every little bit of wear and tear. Button-Tufted Chesterfield SeatsBulgac//Getty ImagesWhile Held-Morris agrees that the Chesterfield sofa is beautiful and classic, the button-tufted versions are frankly a mess. "The button areas can get snagged easily, catch every little bit of dirt and dust, and arent that comfortable to sit on," she says. Rather than the button-tufted backs, she suggests a cushion instead, or putting a button-tufted version in a place that doesn't get a lot of traffic, like an entry hall or at the foot of a bed. Trends That Will Live on ForeverNatural MaterialsPatrick BillerBy Allison Willson.Mikel Welch calls out slipcovered sofas in natural fabrics, like linen, for their timelessness. "These pieces not only age well, but also add a sense of comfort and effortless elegance to any room," he says. Weathered WoodJulie SoeferBy Marie Flanigan.Wooden furniture with a natural patina are also on Welch's list of pieces that'll always be in style. As the wood ages, the furniture gains more character and charm, "making them just as relevant today as they were years ago," he adds. Neutral HuesAime MazzengaBy Wendy Labrum.Looking at the color wheel, Amy Elbaum explains that neutral tones and fabrics remain in style more consistently than other more saturated hues. "Having these kinds of pieces means you can evolve your aesthetic over time by changing out accessories, rugs, pillows, and art," she says. Neutral fabrics and color schemes can stand the tests of time better than brighter pieces. Quality antiquesMali Azima"There's something timeless about the craftsmanship and character they bring to a space," says Kristy Turner. From weathered wood to an authentic design, the history and charm of a vintage piece blend effortlessly with many types of contemporary decor. Hans Wegner Dining ChairsDesign Within Reach"These midcentury chairs are timeless not only for their beauty, but for their comfort," says Alicia Held-Morris. Hans Wegner's designs are simple yet sculptural wooden forms that are "engineering marvels," she says. They're practical, stylish, and comfortableis there anything more timeless than that? • My only AirPods Pro problem was fixed by Apples Shortcuts app
    9to5mac.com
Im a very big AirPods fan. I use my AirPods Pro 2 all day, every day of the work week. But theres one AirPods shortcoming thats my only real complaint, and it involves toggling between noise modes in Control Center. Fortunately, Ive found the perfect fix thanks to the Shortcuts app.My AirPods problem: noise mode confusionLet me explain a scenario I encounter often, that you may be able to relate to.Im wearing my AirPods Pro, but Im not totally sure which noise mode Im in.This didnt used to be as much of an issue when there were only two modes available: Transparency and Noise Cancellation. Those two are fairly easy to tell apart. Though Ill admit there are times Im home alone and find myself uncertain.Adaptive Audio, however, has made me way less aware of which noise mode Im using at any given time. Some people also have the Off mode enabled, which can throw another layer of confusion into the mix.My problem is simple. Most of the time I like to be in noise cancelling mode. And when I want noise cancellation enabled, but Im not sure which mode Im currently using, the available options to address this are clunky.Standard options for noise mode changes arent good enoughApple offers both hardware and software options to enable noise cancellation. The hardware solution: AirPods Pro 2 let you squeeze the tip of an AirPod to cycle between two or more noise modes. But if Im already using noise cancelling without realizing it, Ill find myself having to make multiple switches before being assured that noise cancellation is enabled. For software: iOS lets you toggle noise modes from Control Center or the Settings app. Both options, however, require more taps than necessary.I imagine most people use Control Center for this task. But heres what that process looks like:Open Control CenterLong-press on the volume sliderAt this point you can see which noise mode is enabled. If its the mode you want, then youre done. But if its not, you then have to: tap the noise mode to view all optionsTap the mode you actually wantThen tap again to exit the noise mode screenAnd tap again to exit Control CenterThis is way more cumbersome than it needs to be.Using the Settings app isnt a great alternative, since on any occasion you might be buried several screens deep into other menus and itd be a pain to get back to the AirPods settings. So whats the solution? A simple combination of the Shortcuts app and Control Center. The solution: Shortcuts-powered custom Control Center buttonsThanks to the Shortcuts app and iOS 18s more customizable Control Center, you can now build custom toggles to automatically enable Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency, or Adaptive Audio with a single tap.Shortcuts can do all kinds of powerful, crazy things. But sometimes, the best solutions are the simplest.Ive found that best solutionwith this simple shortcut.Using the Set Noise Control Mode action, Ive set up a shortcut that immediately enables Active Noise Cancellation. Then, I added that shortcut to Control Center.Control Center lets you create custom controls to trigger any shortcut you want.So I now have a Control Center button that immediately turns on noise cancellation for my AirPods Pro.If noise cancelling was already enabled, it stays on. If it wasnt, the control turns it on.I open Control Center and its one quick tap. This is a much better option than the status quo of what Apple offers.Depending on your needs, you could set up separate shortcuts for every different noise mode, then give each mode its own button in Control Center. It would kind of be like if Apple offered dedicated AirPods controls in Control Center. For me, just having one for noise cancellation is all I need. And it solves the one issue Ive had with my AirPods.Do you use the Shortcuts app to set your AirPods noise mode?
