  • Hickmans Imperial: Marvels Space Epic A Decade In The Making
    www.denofgeek.com
Jonathan Hickman has been playing in the Marvel Universe for 15 years now and almost no one can lay a greater claim to the universes makeup in that time than him. Not only did he destroy the Marvel Multiverse (in the greatest superhero crossover of all time, Secret Wars), but he shaped the now-dead original Ultimate Universe with epic runs on Ultimates, mapped the multiverse in Fantastic Four, and rebuilt the Ultimate Universe in its most recent relaunch. Hell, he even sowed some seeds for the cosmogony of the multiverse in House of X/Powers of X (seriously, if you havent read what Al Ewing did to Secret Wars in his Defenders, you need to go check it out). But theres one story hes been chasing from the start: a book about the Shiar Imperial Guard. And were finally getting a payoff in this years Imperial.Marvel is pitching Imperial as a chance to see Hickman reshape the Marvel cosmos in the same way he did the Ultimate Universe. And while Im excited to read anything he does, what has been most interesting is the fact that hes been playing with these characters and ideas for a long time. There were rumors going back to his time with the Avengers that Hickman had a pitch for the Legion of Super-Heroes, DCs futuristic space teens. And in the Legion is the origin of the Shiar.Dave Cockrum was the artist who, with Chris Claremont, created the Shiar as part of his work on the big Phoenix story at the dawn of the Claremont era. Prior to his work on X-Men, Cockrum had been a seminal artist on the Legion of Super-Heroes, and he made the Imperial Guard loosely analogous to his Legionnaires. So Superboy became Gladiator of Kallark; Brainiac 5 became Mentor; Saturn Girl became Oracle; and so on. So while their in-universe story was based on imperial Rome, their look was very Legion, forever linking the two franchises in the minds of fans.Hickman used the Imperial Guard a ton in his Avengers run, having Gladiator (a Superboy stand in from the planet Kallark) lead the coalition of space societies that included the Spartoi, the Kree, the Skrulls and the Annihilation Wave as they joined the Avengers to battle an army of Builders bent on destruction in the universe. And those stories rocked. Hes also revealed in post-X-Men interviews that his original plan at the dawn of the Krakoa era was to put mutants Cannonball and Sunspot in an Imperial Guard book, fleshing out Shiar society relative to the mutant status quo.

  • How to Light a Room Like a Designer
    www.elledecor.com
Spring brings with it a multitude of joys: a new beginning, a spirit of rebirth. Its also when the days grow longer and brighter, allowing us to enjoy more of the benefits of natural light. It was precisely the importance of natural light in interiors that inspired ELLE Decor and its 25 international sister publications (collectively known as ELLE Decoration International) to partner with VELUX, a leading provider of skylights and daylight solutions, to host a global event in Amsterdam focused on this illuminating element in interior design. It brought together eight design experts from different countries, encompassing interior designers, architects, and design editors, all hosted by the editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration Netherlands, Monique van der Reijden. Normally, people take daylight for granted, she says, but we really took the time to be aware of it. And the moment you focus on daylight, fresh air, and nature, they really trigger all the senses.Elle Decoration x VeluxELLE Decoration Netherlands editor-in-chief Monique van der ReijdenElle Decoration x VeluxFrom left: Anna Chwaliska, editor-in-chief, ELLE Decoration Poland; interior designer Tommaso Spinzi; Miminat Shodeinde, founder, Miminat Designs; Laetitia Renevier, journalist, ELLE Decoration France and founder, Billie Blanket Digital Media; Daphn Dorgelo, editor, ELLE Belgium; architect Katharina Buseinus Van der Reijden began by welcoming the others to the Maison ELLE Amsterdram, a 32-room boutique hotel, located in an elegant 19th-century building close to Vondelpark, that not only brings an inimitable touch of French art de vivre to the city, but also offers a connection to nature through its lush, light-filled garden. She then accompanied her guests on the 30-minute journey to take in the allure of one of the Netherlands most striking residences: the Factory House, designed by Inez Kuiper on the site of a former gunpowder factory in Muiden. Surrounded by forest, it stands on a natural lake and also borders the seacoast. Elle Decoration x VeluxBoth sections of the housethe main body and a perpendicular barn-like structuremake great use of natural light thanks to their VELUX roof windows, which not only serve to heighten its architectural impact with their rhythmic placement, but also transform the ambience and quality of life inside. Natural light from above gives a sense of fulfilment to any space, notes Italian designer and art director Tommaso Spinzi. Belgian journalist Daphn Dorgelo concurs: Daylight literally brings energy. Its a natural mood booster, and a space enhancer as well, of course. The benefits of natural light are beyond doubt; study after study has demonstrated just how essential it is to a healthy lifestyle. A review published in December 2021 concluded that each additional hour spent in natural light was linked to a corresponding decrease in the risk of developing long-term depression. Natural light may also improve our energy levels, powers of concentration, creativity, and sleep patterns.Elle Decoration x VeluxElle Decoration x VeluxAlso, as Germany-based architect Katharina Buseinus notes, natural light makes a room more aesthetic, spacious, and invitingas is well evidenced by the VELUX roof windows at the Factory House, which help to flood the interior with dramatic and ever-evolving interplays of daylight and shadow, enhancing the design of each room. Radiant rays of sun shimmer on the black steel staircase. Textural fabrics and woods are brought alive, and the beauty of each architectural detail made clearly visible. VELUX skylights also provide a constant connection with nature (Buseinus, for one, says she loves falling asleep underneath the stars) and draw the eye beyond the limits of a structure, inspiring moments of reverie. And they ensure a healthier indoor environment with cleaner air, thanks to the stack effect whereby stale air is drawn out through the skylights and replaced by fresh air entering on the lower floors.Elle Decoration x VeluxElle Decoration x VeluxAt the Factory House, the roof windows are activated remotely via the VELUX Active app, which not only allows them to be opened and closed, but also for their anti-heat blackout shutters to be drawn like shadesan essential function as spring turns to summer. In this season, their durable aluminium design blocks out natural light, helping to reduce indoor temperatures by up to five degrees, allowing those indoors to remain cool no matter how much the sun sizzles. Elle Decoration x VeluxElle Decoration x VeluxAnd what did the group take away at the end of their visit? That natural light is the healthiest thing you can have, says Van der Reijden. It isnt just something we see. Its something we feel. It inspires, connects, and transforms us. Explore further at VELUX.com.

  • Rumor: iOS 19 will drop support for three iPhone models
    9to5mac.com
Were just over two months away from Apple announcing iOS 19 at WWDC25. A new rumor this week says that iOS 19 will drop support for three iPhone models: iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. All three of those phones were released in September 2018. This rumor comes from a private and anonymous account on X that regularly shares accurate information about Apples software platforms. The account has correctly leaked information about upcoming Apple software updates on countless occasions. If this rumor turns out to be correct, then iOS 19 will be supported on the following iPhones: iPhone 11iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro MaxiPhone 12 and 12 miniiPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro MaxiPhone 13 and 13 miniiPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro MaxiPhone 14 and 14 PlusiPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro MaxiPhone 15 and 15 PlusiPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro MaxiPhone 16eiPhone 16 and 16 PlusiPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro MaxiPhone SE (2nd gen)iPhone SE (3rd gen)As for iPadOS 19, todays rumor says that the update will drop support for the iPad (7th generation), which was released in September 2019 and is powered by the A10 Fusion chip. However, todays leak differs from an iPhoneSoft leak in December that said all iPhone models that can run iOS 18 will also be able to run iOS 19. Both sources have a strong track record and have accurately reported details of iOS device compatibility in prior years. iPhoneSoft, however, falsely reported that iOS 13 would end support for the original iPhone SE in 2019. Even if the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR dont support iOS 19, they will continue to receive software updates from Apple. For example, just today Apple released iOS 16.7.11 with security fixes for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. • PSA: Apple Intelligence for Vision Pro only available in US English
    9to5mac.com
Apple on Monday released visionOS 2.4, and its the first update to enable Apple Intelligence features in Apple Vision Pro. However, even though the update was released on the same day as iOS 18.4 which expands AI capabilities to more languages Apple Intelligence for Vision Pro is only available in English.Apple Intelligence for Vision Pro is limited to US EnglishIn a note on Apples website, the company notes that the first set of Apple Intelligence features for Vision Pro is only available in US English. This means that Vision Pro users must set both the system language and Siri to US English before enabling AI features. When Apple Intelligence arrived on iOS, it was also limited to US English. With iOS 18.2, Apple has expanded its AI tools to more variations of English. Now with iOS 18.4, Apple Intelligence is also available in French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese, and Spanish. The Apple Intelligence features in Vision Pro are pretty much the same as those already available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This includes Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, and text summarization. Apple hasnt made any specific AI features for Vision Pro, and it doesnt have Visual Intelligence like the iPhone.Since Vision Pro is only available in a few countries around the world, its understandable that Apple hasnt rushed to add support for more languages just yet.In addition to Apple Intelligence, visionOS 2.4 adds a new Spatial Gallery app with photos, videos and spatial panoramas curated by Apple. The update also makes it easier to share a Vision Pro with a guest. You can install visionOS 2.4 by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Its worth noting that Apple Vision Pro is currently available in Australia, Canada, China mainland, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE, the UK, and the US.Gadgets I recommend:Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Mother of Elon's Child So Disgusted With Him That She Sells Her Tesla
    futurism.com
The conservative influencer who claims to be the mother of yet another of Elon Musk's children has sold her Tesla and, of course, used it as a photo op.In an interview with theDaily Mail, 26-year-old Ashley St. Clair claimed that she had to sell her Model S because the billionaire she had a baby with has cut her child support."I need to make up for the 60 percent cut that Elon made to our son's child support," St. Clair told a reporter with the British tabloid, who apparently showed up to her Manhattan apartment just as the Tesla was being loaded away.Back in February, the formerBabylon Bee writer took to Musk's social network to drop a bombshell: that she'd had the billionaire's love child in secret after a whirlwind romance. About a month later, her attorneys revealed to People magazine that the multi-hyphenate billionaire "financially retaliated" against St. Clair for filing a custody petition by reducing their purported baby's child support payments. In the same statement, the influencer's attorneys claimed that Musk tried to get a judge to instate an emergency gag order against St. Clair. A judge slapped down the "emergency" designation, but the matter still has not been resolved."Ashley is vigorously opposing this application in order to preserve her right to speak-out. All while Mr. Musk fashions himself a first amendment warrior and freely communicates via his owned social media platform," the woman's lawyers wrote in their statement to People. "Given that Mr. Musk is dedicated to transparency in government, it would be helpful if he administered his own life by the same principles."St. Clair seemed to reference that statement when theMail asked if her child's father, who is more than twice her age, was being "vindictive.""Well, that's his modus operandi when women speak out," she said. "You can check the stocks: I'm not the only one who is cleaning up after his messes."Indeed, St. Clair's latest stunt was accompanied by news that Musk himself had begun whining about Tesla's stock plummeting amid massive protests against the company vis-a-vis his role in Donald Trump's administration."What theyre trying to do is put massive pressure on me, and Tesla I guess, to... stop doing this," the conflict gem scion said at a town hall event in Wisconsin, per Bloomberg. "My Tesla stock and the stock of everyone who holds Tesla has gone, went roughly in half. I mean its a big deal."Credit where credit is due: St. Clair and her legal team are very good at the art of the clapback. But that doesn't mean we have all that much sympathy for anyone who worked at the Babylon Bee or, for that matter, anyone who thought having a child with Musk was a good idea.More on Musk's family values: Elon Musk Is Such a Garbage-Tier Dad That His Kids Find Out About Their New Siblings While Browsing RedditShare This Article

  • Apple Quietly Working on AI Agent to "Replica" a Human Doctor
    futurism.com
As it struggles to hit its stride in the generative AI race, Apple is quietly working on an "AI doctor service," Bloomberg reports a move that the company seemingly hopes will revitalize its foray into medical tech. The secret initiative dubbed Project Mulberry and nicknamed "Health+" aims to give a facelift to Apple's fairly basic Health app, along with integrating a "health coach." Bloomberg described the service as being powered "by a new AI agent that would replicate at least to some extent a real doctor."The use of the term "AI agent" here is noteworthy, as it entails a higher degree of autonomy than a model described as an AI assistant.Using your Apple devices like an iPhone or Apple Watch, the idea is that the revamped HealthJust how deep will these recommendations go? Per the report, the Health app will have a major emphasis on food tracking, something that the current app doesn't do. In some shape or form, the AI doctor is supposed to help users with those nutrition features, though it's unclear how.Ambitiously, Apple is also working on using your phone's camera so the AI agent can study your workout, giving you tips on your form. It's worth being skeptical about how these features will work in practice. Apple's stab at AI, Apple Intelligence, was largely seen as an underwhelming flop. The greatest concern is the tech's proclivity for hallucinating, something that Apple caught flak for when its AI constantly butchered summaries of news headlines, leading the company to suspend the feature. These misinformation risks won't go away with deploying an "AI doctor." If anything, the stakes will be higher. To that end, Apple is trying to assemble a medical A-team, including experts in sleep, nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and cardiology, per Bloomberg, to create explainer videos that the AI doctor would refer patients to. If your data shows poor heart rate trends, for example, then the AI would show you a video made by one of these doctors about the risk of heart disease. Apple is also searching for a "major doctor personality" to serve as the face of the service. As it stands, the project is the top priority for Apple's entire health division, and is being led by Sumbul Desai, a Stanford doctor who serves as the company's VP of health. A release is due as early as iOS 19.4, according to the report, a software update that's anticipated to rollout next spring or summer.Share This Article

  • Embracer Group's Eidos-Montral studio confirms more layoffs, this time affecting "up to 75" people
    www.eurogamer.net
Embracer Group's Eidos-Montral studio confirms more layoffs, this time affecting "up to 75" people"We don't have the capacity to entirely reallocate them."Image credit: Eurogamer/Embracer Group News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on March 31, 2025 Eidos-Montral, the Embracer-owned studio currently providing support on Microsoft's Fable reboot, is laying off "up to" 75 members of staff, saying it doesn't "have the capacity to entirely reallocate them to our other ongoing projects and services."News of the layoffs - which follows 97 job cuts at Eidos-Montral last year - was confirmed in a statement shared on social media. "Today, we informed our studio staff that we are going to let go up to 75 valuable members," the studio wrote, "as one of our mandates is coming to an end. It is not a reflection of their dedication or skills, but unfortunately, we don't have the capacity to entirely reallocate them to our other ongoing projects and services."These very talented, highly experienced experts are going to enter the employment market," the statement continued, "and we are working to support them through this transition. Eidos-Montral stays committed to deliver its other projects currently in development."Eidos-Montral's most recent game, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, released in 2021 when the studio was still owned by publisher Square Enix. Following its purchase by Embracer Group in 2022, however, it was reportedly set to work creating a new game in the Deus Ex series - a project that was canned last year amid a devastating programme of "restructuring" and cost cutting at Embracer Group that resulted in over 4500 job losses across the company.Since then, it's been confirmed Eidos-Montral is assisting Microsoft's Playground Games as the Xbox studio attempts to get its long-awaited - and recently delayed - Fable reboot over the finish line. Today's statement suggests Fable isn't Eidos-Montral's only project, but it's unclear what else the studio may be working on at present.Layoffs have continued to blight the games industry in 2025 following an already devastating few years which have seen over 25,000 employees lose their jobs since the start of 2023. So far this year, 1200 layoffs have been recorded, affecting workers across the likes of Unity, PlayStation, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Games, Sumo Digital, Splash Damage, Bossa Studios, Night School, and Cyan, Inc. Results of a GDC State of the Games Industry survey shared earlier this year revealed one in 10 of the 3000 developers canvassed were laid off in 2024.
