• The One Piece Film: Red 4K Steelbook Drops to a New Low on Amazon as the Anime Returns for More Episodes
    www.ign.com
One Piece as a franchise has been getting a lot of extra attention lately. There's the live-action version of the show on Netflix, some highly anticipated LEGO One Piece sets, and even a recent collaboration with the NBA. Whether you're new to the series or have been around since the very beginning, there's never been a better time to be all-in on One Piece, especially with new episodes arriving next week as the anime returns from its six-month hiatus. While the series seemingly has an endless amount of episodes more than 1,000 to be more precise One Piece has no shortage of movies either. The latest film in the franchise, One Piece: Red, was released back in 2022, but Amazon has only recently dropped the price of the 4K steelbook to a reasonable price. You can also find the same deal at the Crunchyroll store right now.The Best One Piece Movie Deal at Amazon TodayOne Piece Film Red 4K SteelbookSince this steelbook was first available on Amazon, it has not dropped below $29.79 as its lowest ever price. The discount that is happening now is largely thanks to the Crunchyroll store offering a price reduction alongside the Crunchyroll Anime Awards that are starting in April. If you're hoping to add this steelbook to your One Piece collection, right now is the best time to do so.One Piece Film: Red is the most recent movie in the series and probably not the best place for a newcomer to jump right in. There are are actually a total of 15 One Piece movies in the franchise and they all fit in various points in the timeline. This particular movie takes place after episode 1030 on the One Piece timeline, so you have a long ways to go if you're just starting on The Romance Dawn Arc. If you're ready to start the ultimate anime marathon, One Piece is available on pretty much every anime streaming site, including Crunchyroll. We like it enough to give it a 9 out of 10 in our review. Here's a quick breakdown of what we thought of the film:"One Piece Film: Red breaks the mold of the typical anime shonen film, capturing the magic of the series. Its confidently a musical, too, with J-Pop star Ado providing several fantastic earworms as Uta Shanks doesnt get as much screen time as fans may hope, but its still satisfying to spend more time with him. Its not the movie that will convert non-believers into fans it feels more like a lost episode than a cash grab for newcomers but by heavily integrating itself with the main series and understanding the humor that makes it shine, Film: Red ranks at the top of One Pieces features."Play

  • How to Increase Your Chance of Getting a New Nintendo Switch 2 Console on Day One
    www.ign.com
Its been a while since we saw a new preorder item this big go live. Nintendo is planning to unveil the Switch 2 in a super-sized 60-minute Nintendo Direct tomorrow, April 2. We expect to learn all about the next-gen consoles new features, along with its launch lineup of games, and maybe even new accessories and peripherals. We also expect to learn when you can preorder the Nintendo Switch 2. Whether preorders go live tomorrow or at some point in the future, youll want to be ready when they do. Here are some pro tips from the IGN commerce team on how to prepare to preorder the Nintendo Switch 2.Follow IGN DealsWhen a major piece of gaming hardware goes up for preorder at a retailer, theres no telling how long it will be available. Weve seen sought-after hardware sell out in seconds. The best and most reliable way to know when a listing goes live is to follow IGN Deals on Twitter/X or Bluesky and keep an eye on those accounts in real time. Wario64 and CAG are also reliable sources of links the moment they become available. During and after the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct (which starts April 2, 2025 at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST), well be in the trenches, posting links the moment they become available.Log Into Your Retailer AccountsTheres no point in clicking a live preorder link early if youre not logged in. The precious seconds it takes to enter your login name and password could make the difference between you getting a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch and not. The retailers below are all likely to have Switch 2 preorders, so create an account if you have to, and make sure youre logged in tomorrow morning, in case Switch 2 preorders go live.Have Your Credit Card Saved in Your AccountThe next step is to make sure your credit card info is entered in at the above retailers so you dont have to type numbers with your excited fingers as everyone else on the planet buys a Switch 2 before you can.Don't Despair if You Miss Out at a RetailerWith big ticket items like the Switch 2, the preorder links rarely go live at the same time across all the retailers. Often, Best Buy's link goes up first, followed a few minutes later by GameStop and Walmart. Amazon is usually the wild card of the bunch, sometimes going live hours (or even days) later. So if you miss the chance to preorder from one retailer, stay tuned to see if others will have Switch 2 preorders in stock a little later. There's even a chance a given retailer will get additional preorders after its initial stock has run out. And even if you miss out preordering at all of the retailers, local brick-and-mortar stores may get stock on launch day. And failing that, even if stock is scarce at launch, Nintendo will catch up with demand at some point, so remain steadfast. Avoid Switch 2 Scams and ResellersAnytime a hard-to-buy piece of gaming hardware goes up for preorder, out come the opportunists. You can bet shady sites and resellers on eBay will be primed and ready to capitalize on this moment. Some sites will make their original Switch stock seem like Switch 2 stock. Others will take their actual Switch 2 preorders, crank the price sky high, and re-sell them at a massive profit. If you fail to secure a Switch 2 preorder at a legit retailer when they go live, please dont pay large sums of money to these people looking to make an easy buck. Its almost always better to wait until more stock becomes available at a site you trust.Chris Reed is a deals expert and commerce editor for IGN. You can follow him on Bluesky @chrislreed.com.

  • Bring Her Back: Philippou Brothers Reveal Real-Life Trauma That Inspired New A24 Horror
    www.denofgeek.com
Danny and Michael Philippou were already well known in the YouTube community when they took Hollywood by storm with their A24 horror hit, Talk to Me. That haunting supernatural horror explored grief and loss through the lens of a wild party game, which saw teens take turns being possessed by a strange artifact.During the trailer launch for and sneak peak of their follow-up, Bring Her Backa film that follows foster kids Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) as they are taken in by an eccentric and possibly dangerous woman (Sally Hawkins)the pair shared that just like their massively successful first feature, Bring Her Back was shaped by a devastating loss in the Australian twins own lives. In the middle of writing Bring Her Back my cousin lost her two year old, Danny Philippou shared. We were in the hospital, and I was just seeing her on the bed, holding this kid, and the family were all around him, and they were holding his feet and his hands and his head and his arms, and eventually, over time, everyone let him go. My cousin was the last one to let him go.The idea of her never being okay ever again after that, that was an inspiration point, He continued. And how far she would go to heal herself from it. The idea of a never-ending grief cycle is terrifying to me.If it seems like Talk to Me and Bring Her Back are atmospherically and thematically connected, thats because they were developed concurrently, both inspired by the same losses, as well as Micheals love for The Exorcist.I think its the greatest film ever made so that makes me lean towards possession automatically, Michael told a group of journalists. Theres something so terrifying [about it], it feels so real to see somebody where something else is inhabiting their bodies. Connecting the stuff that makes you feel uncomfortable or nervous, or freaks you out and then express those things on screen.Danny added, Then leaning into how far youd go to bring someone back that you love. Those deep questions that you wonder and think about. Thats something that we didnt fully get out with Talk to Me, so this is another iteration. As Bring Her Back went into pre-production another tragedy struck as a close family friend died at the age of only 23. Alerted by their mother, the twins were suddenly once again crafting a film while dealing with the death of a loved one.The grief was so raw that in the moment we didnt really have time to properly process it, Danny admitted. We were doing pre-production meetings, then we started shooting, and there was no time to properly sort through those emotions. They sort of poured themselves out in the script and in conversations with Sally, so that bled into the character of Laura and scenes that were meant to be scary suddenly turned sad. So that just becomes part of the process, I think theres a rawness in it that wasnt in Talk to Me.To the brothers, horror offers a lighter way to explore dark themes and experiences like the loss of their cousins child, even becoming fun if they approach it in the right way. From what we sawtwo clips and the recently released first full trailerBring Her Back is a far darker and more somber take on horror than their previous endeavor, which still freaked out audiences around the world. According to Micheal, horror was always in their blood and their unusual childhood meant that the brothers carved a bloody path to adulthood and filmmaking.Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox! Our parents were never home, he said. Our grandfather raised us to a certain point, and he passed away when we were really young. And once he did, there was no parental supervision, and our childhood was Lord of the Flies. Theres footage of us as 10 year olds covered in blood, like actual blood, from backyard wrestling and fucking each other up that way, it just became our love language: violence and psychopathy-ness.Perhaps thats why Bring Her Back centers on three children, Andy, Piper, and Ollie (Jonah Wren Phillips) thrown into a world of violence and ritual under the watchfuland potentially malevolenteye of grieving mother Laura. Working with Hawkins was something of a dream come true for the brothers who eagerly gushed about her performance. And it marks a landmark moment for the actress too as she ventures into horror for the very first time.We did not think she would say yes, we sent her the script, and then she got back right away and said she was in love with it, how much it meant to her, how much she connected to it. Danny recalled. Her role was inspired by so-called Psycho-biddy movies like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Lady in a Cage, and Straight Jacket. Thus Bring Her Back promises to show a side of Hawkins audiences have yet to see.Im in awe of her. Shes genuinely incredible. And in certain scenes so terrifying as well, Danny teased.Bring Her Back hits theaters on May 30 2025.

  • iOS 18.4 lets you set default iPhone apps in these new categories
    9to5mac.com
Apples push to make the iPhone more customizable and personal has brought a new iOS 18.4 feature: now there are two new categories for setting default apps, depending on where you live.Translation default available broadly, while Navigation is limited to the EUApple has offered some form of default app controls in the Settings app for years. But recently in iOS 18.2, the feature expanded with new categories and a dedicated hub.Now in iOS 18.4, the category options are growing again.Translation is a new category available in the US and abroad, letting you change the default from Apples Translate app to a third-party option like Google Translate. And if youre in the EU, youll see a second long-anticipated addition: Navigation. Its a shame that Navigation is restricted to EU users, but if you do happen to live in the EU youll be able to change your iPhones default from Apple Maps to another option, such as Google Maps.Default app categories all work a bit differently, but generally speaking, your default app will be used by links and built-in OS tools you encounter system-wide for performing a certain function. For example, if you change your Navigation default to Waze, tapping an address your friend sends you in an iMessage should open that location directly in your preferred app.Default apps can be configured on your iPhone by opening Settings Apps Default Apps.In the US, you should see these nine category options, with Navigation as the tenth in the EU:EmailMessagingCallingCall FilteringBrowser AppTranslationPasswords & CodesContactless AppKeyboardsDo you plan to change default apps in iOS 18.4? • It's Never Been More Over For Tesla
    futurism.com
Things have been looking rocky at Tesla for a while now. Even before CEO Elon Musk began ripping through the federal government to global outcry, its late-2024 sales were way down. Now that feels like a lifetime ago, as mass recalls, performance issues, and anti-Musk protests have united to erase some $800 billion in Tesla's market value. And as the once-mighty Tesla falls by the wayside, a rising challenger is beginning to eat Musk's lunch.BYD is the Shenzhen-based EV company quickly replacing Tesla as the world's foremost seller of electric and hybrid vehicles. It just released its earnings results for the first quarter of 2025, showing sales up 58 percent sold in the same period of 2024, from around 400,000 vehicle sales to nearly a million. The automaker, which recently revealed a vehicle battery that can charge in just five minutes, also hit a new record in EV exports at 206,084 units, up 111 percent from last year.Tesla's sales results won't go live until tomorrow, but analysts are warning of continued volatility for the company even as hopeful investors pump its stock.Though Tesla's sales in China have ticked up after a dismal March, its total sales are expected to fall to between 315,000 and 369,000 well below Q1 of 2024, which saw north of 380,000units thanks to plunging consumer sentiments in the US and Europe. It doesn't help that the US green energy market is rapidly shrinking as Wall Street and manufacturing giants backtrack on climate pledges, and Musk's buddy-in-chief threatens to end EV tax credits the secret sauce behind Tesla's rise, not to mention Musk's fortune.Though Tesla's long-term standings look grim, its weaning lifeforce could get a small jolt thanks to Trump's looming auto tariffs, which experts note could benefit Tesla more than any other company, at least in the short term. Though every US car company has made its vehicles with a combination of US, Mexican, and Canadian labor after the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) took effect in 1994, Tesla's supply chain is said to be more dependent on US workers than its automotive rivals, giving it a temporary leg up.That hasn't stopped Musk from arguing that the "tariff impact on Tesla is still significant," which is probably true, though the real question is how big an impact Tesla will feel compared to companies like Ford and General Motors. "Tesla is NOT unscathed here," the tech tycoon wrote, presumably trying beat the oligarchy accusations. What happens next could be a matter of US history. The unprecedented tariffs are expected to be formally announced tomorrow on what Trump's camp is calling "Liberation Day." Financial experts note that this will be the "biggest tax hike in US history," as odds of a recession creep up and unemployment anxiety hits levels not seen since 2009.Regardless of how Tesla weathers the trade war, it likely won't be enough to catch back up to BYD. Thankfully, the Chinese EV giant is open to sharing its technology with foreign companies, even after Musk laughed in its face. Talk about manners.More on EVs: FBI Launches Task Force to Protect TeslaShare This Article

  • The Majority of Scientists Are Now Considering Fleeing America
    futurism.com
As Donald Trump's administration continues to gut scientific funding anddiminish the role of research all while installing crackpot anti-vaccine figureheads to lead entire federal agencies scientists are starting to look for greener pastures.According to a Nature poll of more than 1,200 scientists, a startling 75 percent said they're now considering leaving the United States. Europe and Canada emerged as top choices for relocation. And if that wasn't enough sign of intellectual erosion, a whopping 79 percent of postgraduate researchers and 255 of 340 PhD students said they'd consider leaving."Anywhere that supports science," one respondent wrote of where they'd go instead."This is my home I really love my country," another graduate student at a top US university wrote. "But a lot of my mentors have been telling me to get out, right now."It's a sad reality for researchers, who are increasingly seeing no future with Trump at the helm. The poll highlights the threat of a massive brain drain as scientists are forced to pursue opportunities abroad instead.Experts have warned that the country's reputation as a world-leading place to conduct scientific research has taken a massive hit under the current Trump administration, which could also have disastrous long-term economic consequences in the years ahead. While thousands of scientists have been rehired following mass firings at federal government agencies, concerns over future layoffs are still widespread. Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency is still laying waste to one agency after the next. Earlier today, hundreds of federal health workers were told they'd be losing their jobs.Massive cuts to grants and stipends, in particular, have US-based scientists reeling. Studies and clinical trials have ground to a halt. Countless projects are being canceled."Seeing all of the work stopped is heartbreaking," the graduate student quoted above wrote. "Ive been looking very diligently for opportunities in Europe, Australia, and Mexico.""If I want to work in that space, Im going to have to find somewhere else that prioritizes that," she said.Meanwhile, institutions outside the US are counting their lucky stars and are expecting a massive influx of talent."From what Im hearing from the places were talking to, and other people who are looking to take international jobs, a lot of universities in these countries are seeing this as a once-in-a-generation opportunity," another researcher, who has been in touch with a Canadian university after his National Institutes of Health grant was terminated, told Nature."I think it has gone from 'Can we recruit a few people?' to 'How many people can we actually take?' because the demand is there," he added. The hit to US universities could threaten the country's competitiveness, especially when it comes to high-interest areas like AI."Universities are tremendously important engines of innovation," New York University professor Sabrina Howell told the New York Times. "This is really killing the goose that lays the golden egg."In short, the Trump administration's attack on science could be a devastating and potentially unprecedented self-own."Weve had a pretty good run over the past 60 to 80 years," Duke University economist Daniel Gross, who found in a working paper that Trump's cuts could disproportionately affect institutions with the most successful research programs, told the NYT. "Sometimes you dont realize the value of something until its gone."More on brain drain: NASA Disgusted by Elon Musk's DisrespectShare This Article

  • SpaceXs Fram2 Mission Sends Four Private Astronauts into Polar Orbit
    www.scientificamerican.com
March 31, 20253 min readSpaceX Hits New Milestone with Fram2, the First-Ever Crewed Polar MissionThe privately funded Fram2 mission is the first ever to take astronauts into polar orbitand the latest sign of a new normal for human spaceflightBy Lee Billings edited by Dean VisserA SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the Fram2 mission astronauts aboard soars into a polar orbit after lifting off from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida on March 31, 2025. Gregg Newton/AFP via Getty ImagesIn some respects, the most notable thing about Fram2, the private four-person space mission that launched on Monday night on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, is its polar orbit. Named after the Norwegian polar-exploration vessel Fram, the Fram2 mission marks the first time humans have occupied this particular slot around our planet, a swooping ellipse that takes a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft between Earths North and South Poles in about 45 minutes. Especially when seen from a panoramic cupola attached to the spacecraft, the unique views offered by Fram2s 430-kilometer-high orbital perch are breathtakingly cooleven leaving aside the vast expanses of polar ice far below. But the notional noteworthiness of Fram2s three-to-five-day stay in polar orbit ironically belies something even more remarkable: privately funded human spaceflight is now considered so routine that any such mission seeking to make headlines desperately needs some attention-grabbing first. Why Did Fram2 Go to Polar Orbit? On supporting science journalismIf you're enjoying this article, consider supporting our award-winning journalism by subscribing. By purchasing a subscription you are helping to ensure the future of impactful stories about the discoveries and ideas shaping our world today.None of the 22 life-science-focused experiments carried onboard Fram2 demanded that it reach polar orbit, which hadnt been attempted in previous crewed missions because of the increased amount of fuel required to get there. (Fram2 flew southward from its launch site, whereas most space missions have targeted more equatorial orbits and have launched toward the east to receive a fuel-saving boost from Earths rotation). Simply put, aside from the desire for some novel gimmick, there was no clear rationale for SpaceXs mission planners or Fram2s leader, cryptocurrency billionaire Chun Wang, to have chosen a polar orbit in the first place. Why This MattersNone of this means that sending humans into that orbit isnt a legitimately impressive feat. It isall the more so because SpaceXs Falcon 9 rocket not only safely delivered the Crew Dragon to polar orbit; it also had enough leftover fuel to still perform a pinpoint soft landing on an awaiting barge in the Atlantic Ocean. But Fram2s polarity overshadows the more mundane but no less astonishing new normal, in which private human spaceflight has rapidly shifted from the stuff of science fiction to a decidedly unexceptional reality. Two screen captures from the livestream of SpaceXs launch of the private Fram2 mission, showing the glowing nozzle of the Falcon 9 rocket (left) and the spacesuit-clad Fram2 crew in the Crew Dragon capsule (right).SpaceXConsider that this is SpaceXs 17th crewed mission, of which about a third have been privately funded. Wang and his three crewmatesfilmmaker Jannicke Mikkelsen, roboticist Rabea Rogge and polar explorer Eric Philipsall rode in Resilience, the Crew Dragon vehicle that has flown three other crews (two of them private) to space. Resiliences previous private missions were both commanded by billionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, who has since parlayed his SpaceX-powered passion for spaceflight into a nomination to lead NASA on behalf of the Trump administration. And the Fram2 launch occurred scarcely two weeks after the liftoff of SpaceXs NASA-funded Crew-10 mission to the International Space Stationthe shortest gap yet between the companys crewed launches, all of which have taken place as SpaceX has maintained a frenetic record-setting pace of uncrewed commercial launches and has continued the wildly ambitious development of its potentially revolutionary Starship vehicle.Whats NextOne might be tempted to think this is merely a reflection of SpaceXs success, but the rising numbers of legitimate competitors for the companys launch-industry dominance suggest otherwise. Even if SpaceX somehow falters, Blue Origin, Rocket Lab, United Launch Alliance and other launch providers all appear on track to offer broadly similar services in coming years, suggesting that this bold new era of spaceflight is here to stay.
