• How To Get The Namazu Legendary Mount In Assassin's Creed Shadows
    www.gamespot.com
Do you want to have the Namazu legendary mount in Assassin's Creed Shadows? This is one of the coolest-looking horses that you can find in-game (outside of spending your hard-earned cash in the store). That said, you do need to trek across the countryside if you want to find them. How to get the Namazu legendary mount in Assassin's Creed ShadowsThe Namazu legendary mount can be found near the island of Okishima in the Omi region. Okishima is actually a popular destination, even until the present day. That's because it's one of Japan's "Cat Islands"--basically a place where felines are frolicking around, as opposed to being kept indoors. It's also said that the inhabitants of the island are descendants of a samurai group that was banished centuries ago. Map of the location of the Namazu legendary mountAbove, you can see a map that shows the location of the Namazu legendary mount in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Basically, you need to trek to the Omi region, which is northeast of Osaka (Izumi Settsu) and east of Kyoto (Yamashiro). Once you arrive at the town of Azuchi, you can look for a boat that you can sail to the island itself.Note that there's no need to rush at all. You can progress through the game normally and even tag the fast travel point and kakurega during quests, such as those that culminate in the Yasuke-Lady Oichi romance. Okishima diving spotOnce you're in Okishima, go marvel at the cats--if you're as big a fan of them as I am. Once you're done meowing by yourself, head to the western part of the island just a short distance away from the kakurega. While checking out the coast, you should see a bonfire surrounded by a few bandits. Take them out and be ready to dive underwater. Okishima underwater cave and Namazu chestAfter diving underwater, turn around and look for an opening. The tunnel itself leads to a small cavern with a chest that contains the Namazu legendary mount. Open it to receive your reward, then quickly swim back to the surface since your character is probably out of breath by now. That's how you get the Namazu legendary mount in Assassin's Creed Shadows. You can equip them via the inventory screen and then ride them while exploring. The Namazu has the same speed and animations as the other horses in the game, but they do have a unique look. They have fish scales on their body and even whiskers akin to a catfish. That's pretty cool, considering that you found them near a Cat Island that has a fishing village.Do you need more help as you continue your adventure throughout Sengoku Jidai era Japan? We've got you covered, so just take a look at our Assassin's Creed Shadows guides hub.

How to unlock the Ray Gun Mark IIThe Ray Gun Mark II Wonder Weapon was originally introduced in Black Ops II. This is a three-round burst variant of the very first Ray Gun. It can be Pack-a-Punched, and it can also double as a bludgeoning device for melee attacks. This is an unlockable Wonder Weapon in Shattered Veil. You can start working toward gathering the parts needed to unlock the Ray Gun Mark II once you've followed the in-game prompts leading you down the elevator shaft to Pack-a-Punch. Get the floppy diskYou'll want to zip down into the elevator shaft at round 10 or after. A special zombie will spawn the name "Lab Technician." Kill this zombie to get the Floppy Disk item it drops. Get your code wordTake the Floppy Disk to the East Foyer, which is found by taking the right side door from the giant dinosaur bones display. There's a printer/fax machine in the East Foyer. Interact with the PC next to this device to get a code printed on a piece of paper. This paper will give you a code word. This code is randomized for every match. Make note of this word and head to the Nursery. Solve the nursery puzzleFirst, find the first letter of your code word on the nursery chalkboard. The letter will be in one of six groups. The number you need for this letter is the number of letters in that specific group.Repeat this process for all letters in your code word in order to get a numerical code. For example: My word was WORM. I found each letter and counted the number of letters for the group it was in, so my code was 7671. Your letter groups will likely be randomized, but you can see how I got my code from the chalkboard shown above. Get the severed armHead down into the Service Tunnels area. You'll likely want to be prepared here with an upgraded weapon, armor, and basic perks. There is a Doppelghast enemy behind a locked glass door. Enter the code into the keypad by the door. Enter the numerical code you just got from solving the nursery puzzle. Kill the Doppelghast and two other zombies that spawn with it. Pick up the Severed Arm item dropped by the Doppelghast. Collect your Ray Gun Mark IITake the Severed Arm you collected further into the Service Tunnels. You'll see a metal garage door you can open on your left. Access this to reach the map's Armory. You'll want to be quick here once you enter the Armory's door. You only have 60 seconds to grab the gun.The Ray Gun Mark II is locked behind glass. Interact with the keypad to use the Severed Arm to unlock the case. The Wonder Weapon is now yours. It's worth noting that the armory is also where you can bring key items randomly dropped by various enemy types. This lets you get a random item from a case. This can be perks, killstreaks, or guns of various rarity. Other ways to get the Ray Gun Mark IIIf luck or Gobble Gums are on your side, you might not need to take all the steps above to unlock the gun in the Armory. The Ray Gun Mark II Wonder Weapon can be gained by getting lucky with the Mystery Box, or if you use the Wonderbar Gobble Gum, you will be guaranteed a Wonder Weapon on your next Mystery Box spin. However, the gum doesn't specifically guarantee you the Ray Gun Mark II.However, it's worth noting you only get one Ray Gun Mark II Wonder Weapon from the locked stash. So, if you want your teammates to have one, you'll need to try and get lucky with these other methods. • Shenmue is the most influential game of all time, according to new poll
    www.polygon.com
A public poll to determine the most influential video game of all time, held by the U.K. screen arts academy BAFTA, has returned an extremely surprising (if not totally unworthy) result: Shenmue, Yu Suzukis wildly ambitious 1999 Sega Dreamcast game about one young mans search for justice (and capsule toys).Shenmue beat more routinely canonized classics like Doom, Super Mario Bros., Half-Life, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to claim the title. Those four games made up the rest of the top five. Minecraft came in sixth place, Tetris in 11th, Final Fantasy 7 in 17th, and Grand Theft Auto 3 placed a lowly 19th.Theres evidence that BAFTAs poll was subject to some brigading among passionate game fans; Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, a (by all accounts very good) role-playing game that has barely been out for two months, came in 7th place, just ahead of Super Mario 64. Still, theres no disputing the worthiness of most of the games in BAFTAs top 21, even if the order is a little idiosyncratic.Shenmue was a passion project for the Sega producer Suzuki, the creator of Out Run and Virtua Fighter. The most expensive game ever made at the time, its a boldly realistic take on the humdrum daily life of Ryo Hazuki, a teenage martial artist out to avenge his fathers murder in the 1980s. It features incredibly detailed environments, a day-and-night system, NPCs who obey their own schedules, dozens of minigames and quite a lot of just waiting around.Shenmue was certainly ahead of its time, although its debatable how influential it has been on other games certainly in comparison to something like GTA 3. Conceived as a multi-part epic, it was a commercial failure, and though Shenmue 2 came out in 2001, it would be 18 years before Suzuki got to continue his story in the crowd-funded Shenmue 3.Responding to the accolade in a statement, Suzuki said, I am deeply honoured and grateful that Shenmue has been selected as the Most Influential Video Game of All Time. At its inception, we set out to explore the question, How real can a game become?, aiming to portray a world and story unprecedented in scale and detail. This distinction serves as a powerful reminder that the challenge we embraced continues to resonate with and inspire so many people even today. It is truly the greatest of encouragement.Above all, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the fans around the world who have continued to love and support Shenmue. Your passion and encouragement have guided this journey every step of the way. And the story is not over yet, there is more to come! Thank you very much!BAFTAs poll was conducted as a prelude to the BAFTA Games Awards, which take place next week on April 8. In a similar poll last year, the public selected Tomb Raiders Lara Croft as the most iconic video games character of all time, ahead of Mario, Sonic, and Hitmans Agent 47.Heres the full ranking of the top 21 most influential video games of all time, according to BAFTAs poll:ShenmueDoom (1993)Super Mario Bros.Half-LifeThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of TimeMinecraftKingdom Come: Deliverance 2Super Mario 64Half-Life 2The SimsTetrisTomb RaiderPongMetal Gear SolidWorld of WarcraftBaldurs Gate 3Final Fantasy 7Dark SoulsGrand Theft Auto 3The Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimGrand Theft Auto

  • It Takes 50 Hours to Earn the Right to Preorder a Switch 2 From Nintendo
    lifehacker.com
Nintendo Switch 2 is officially coming to stores on June 5. In just over two months, you might have the opportunity to own Nintendo's newest (and most expensive) console and play the latest Switch 2 exclusives (Mario Kart World looks ridiculously fun), assuming you can snag one of them.Because if you want to boot up a Switch 2 on launch day, you'll almost certainly need to preorder it. Unless you're lucky enough to find a store that has extra consoles in stock, or there turns out to be exceptionally low demand (unlikely given eight years of building anticipation among the Nintendo faithful), these things are going to be a rare commodity. One option, of course, is to preorder a system directly through Nintendobut the company's requirements to do so are anything but orthodox. How to "register your interest" for a Switch 2Nintendo doesn't consider theirs a "preorder" program, per se. Instead, the company invites you to "register your interest" in buying a Switch 2. Assuming you're at least 18 years old, you'll need to head to Nintendo's official interest registration site, then sign into your Nintendo Account. Once Nintendo has confirmed your eligibility, it will send an invitation to the email address registered with your Nintendo Account. This invitation gives you the option to buy one Switch 2 consoleeither the standalone unit or the bundle with a digital copy of Mario Kart World. This invite will be good for 72 hours. Easy enough, right? It's not that simple.Only experienced gamers need applyThis is a first come, first served program, so the sooner you are able to register, the better your chance of being selected. On top of that, this...let's call it a "purchasing opportunity" is only open to registrants who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription with at least 12 months of paid service. But the requirement that seems most out of left field to me is this: You also need to have at least 50 hours of gameplay associated with the Nintendo Account you use to register, as of April 2, 2025. If you don't meet any of these criteria, you'll be put on an overflow list. Nintendo will only start sending invites to members of this waitlist once the registrants who meet the requirements have all been invited. Fifty hours of gameplay is a bizarre requirement (can't I just give you money, Nintendo?) but you can see the company's reasoning. As a mega-hyped piece of hardware, the Switch 2 is a prime target for scalpers. By setting strict requirements for who can register for an invitation to purchase one (and by limiting each registration to one console purchase) Nintendo is trying to ensure that only true Nintendo fans get first crack. Scalpers won't even be able to make multiple Nintendo Accounts in order to get around these limits, as the aforementioned 50 hours of gameplay had to be logged before today, April 2. Unless scalpers knew the rules well ahead of time, any dummy accounts they make leading up to the Switch 2 launch will be useless. Even as someone with well over 50 hours of gameplay on my Nintendo Account, this all feels a bit weird. Perhaps its the data privacy geek in me, but it doesn't sit well with me that I need to share my gameplay with Nintendo in order to prove that I am, indeed, worthy of buying a Switch 2. Tie the purchase to my Nintendo Account, fine, but I'm not sure I like the precedent here. Because even if you have those 50 hours, you might not be eligible, since you also need to have opted in to share that data with Nintendo. Nintendo's language isn't totally clear here, so it's not obvious to me if it counts to if you opt in today, or if you had to have already opted in before the program was announced. If you want to maximize your chances of being selected to buy through Nintendo, it's time to check your Nintendo Account privacy settings and ensure that you are sharing your usage information with Nintendo under Data Usage Opt-Out Preferences. When do invitations to buy a Switch 2 go out?Strange privacy implications aside, here's what happens after you register: Nintendo says the first round of invites will go out May 8, 2025, with subsequent rounds sending off "periodically" until purchases areavailable for all. The email will come from no-reply@noa.nintendo.com, so consider adding that to your email whitelist if you have an overzealous spam filter. If selected, you'll be able to buy your chosen Switch 2 console or bundle (the standalone system is $449, while the Mario Kart World bundle is $499) as well as a "variety of additional items." My guess is that will include the new Pro Controller, the retro GameCube controller, and perhaps additional Joy-Cons, as well as any other types of accessories Nintendo dreams up. As with the system itself, you'll only be able to purchase one of each of these additional items. Nintendo accepts Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, and Apple Paybut not Nintendo eShop gift cards. The company will also only ship products directly to customers, and will not make orders available at its two retail locations. Of course, Nintendo isn't the only company you can order a Switch 2 from. You can sign up for similar alerts from other retailers, including Best Buy and GameStop, and I imagine more retailers will add their own opportunities soon enough.

  • GameChat is decades late and looks pretty janky
    www.engadget.com
In 2002, Microsoft launched Xbox Live with built-in voice chat as one of the main selling points of the then new service. Now, nearly 25 years later, Nintendo is finally giving its fans an easy way to talk to their friends online over a friendly match of Mario Kart World.Considering some of the solutions Nintendo has offered in the past, GameChat is surprisingly elegant. A tap of the Switch 2's new C button, conveniently located below the Home button on the right Joy-Con, brings up a dedicated interface that allows you to quickly start screensharing, mute and unmute your mic and, if you decide to buy the optional Switch 2 Camera, enable video. What's more, the Switch 2 has a built-in mic. We'll need to test the handheld to see how well the microphone performs in a noisy environment; Nintendo touted its noise-reduction features in today's introduction. But if nothing else, kudos to Nintendo for realizing it couldn't release a new console in 2025 without voice chat built-in and making that feature standard on all models. However, if the demo Nintendo showed off today is any indication of the final product, the company has some work to do. Voice chat looks like it works well enough, with users allowed to invite up to 11 other people to join their conversation. That said, screen sharing and video chat look very rough. When everyone in the video started streaming their gameplay, it looked like the games were running at less than 30 frames per second, making it difficult to see how it would be possible to use the feature to guide a friend through a tricky section, like Nintendo suggested in the demo. Video chat was equally janky, with the footage from the Switch 2 Camera looking like something captured by a webcam from the mid-aughts. Moreover, if you want to see your friend's screen, there's an additional tradeoff.Nintendo showed off three different interface options, with two of them devoting a fair amount of screen space to tiles for your friends. I imagine this won't be a problem if you're playing on a TV, but even on the Switch 2's large 7.9-inch screen, the interface looks like it could get cramped fast.To Nintendo's credit, the company has thought a lot about parental controls, with features that allow parents and guardians to decide who their kids can chat with online and if they can join a session with video. But the thing is none of GameChats capabilities are new. They've existed in apps like Discord for years, which begs the question why some of them look so rough this close to launch.Nintendo has time between now and June 5 to polish GameChat, but in 2025, making a technically competent chat app shouldn't be so hard. Of course, I imagine most of the Switch 2's audience won't care if some of GameChat's features are half-baked. For the rest of us, the company plans to offer the feature for free until the end of March 2026. One would hope that's enough time for the company to catch up on two decades worth of progress in online gaming. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/gaming/nintendo/gamechat-is-decades-late-and-looks-pretty-janky-202309823.html?src=rss

  • Sonos cut retail prices for its Era 100 speaker and Ray soundbar
    www.engadget.com
Sonos has given two of its audio products price cuts. The Era 100 smart speaker and Ray soundbar now retail for $199. The change offers new customers a $50 savings for the Era 100 and $80 on the Ray. Both speakers would frequently show up on sale, but Sonos has confirmed that this is a permanent pricing change for the products. These items have been available for a few years, so the price drop might signal that a refresh is in store for both. When it debuted in 2023, the Era 100 was an upgrade on the Sonos One, bringing overhauled touch controls and even better audio quality to the same cylindrical form factor. At $200, it's now selling for what the Sonos One cost, making it a solid choice for a home speaker. The Ray came out in 2022, offering a solid home theater performance without the most high-end audio or accompanying high-end price tag.
