Mastercard is taking a significant step toward broadening the use of crypto assets across Europe and the UK. The global payments leader has partnered with crypto exchange Kraken to facilitate card-based crypto payments for everyday purchases. The collaboration was officially announced in a blog post published by Mastercard on April 8. With its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations, the European Union is already one of the most tightly regulated crypto markets globally. Meanwhile, the UK is expected to finalise its own comprehensive crypto legislation by 2026.In the coming weeks, Kraken will be launching both physical and digital debit cards to facilitate payments through crypto. As part of the partnership, UK and Europe-based Kraken users will be allowed to make crypto payments to over 150 million merchants who accept Mastercard.Both, Mastercard and Kraken are attempting to narrow the gap between traditional finance and crypto assets, the announcement claimed."Our customers want to be able to easily pay for real-world goods and services with their cryptocurrencies or stablecoins. Our partnership with Mastercard is a major step in realising this vision," said David Ripley, Co-CEO of Kraken.In January, Kraken launched a feature to let users process P2P transactions through both, crypto as well as fiat currencies. Mastercard, in its announcement, said that this partnership follows the market success of this feature."In just 90 days, over 200,000 Kraken customers have activated their 'Kraktag' and are sending money worldwide as easily as a text message," the post noted.Mastercard said it is determined to expand digital payment possibilities and keep up with the globally evolving financial landscape."With a shared ambition to simplify, interoperate, and secure the digital asset ecosystem, we are proud to collaborate with Kraken and bring real value to their user base," said Scott Abrahams, Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships at Mastercard.Over the last few years, Mastercard has taken multiple steps to foray into crypto services. The company has partnered with Floki Inu, 1inch, and Swoo Pay among others.In September 2023, Mastercard and Binance ended four crypto card programmes in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Bahrain. At the time, neither company disclosed specific reasons for ending the partnership. Previously, the collaboration had introduced Binance Cards, which allowed users to convert their crypto assets into traditional currencies for everyday transactions. Vampire Survivors developer Poncle has revealed that the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will not include cross-save. The feature, originally planned for an update slated for release this month, is apparently not possible for the PlayStation platforms owing to some legal issues with the company. In a thread on social media platform X, Poncle elaborated that the legal issue comes from the developer needing to share the information of the partners that it works with in order to enable cross-save. Because of this, chances of the feature ever making it to the PS4 and PS5 “are now very slim.” “We’re sorry to say won’t be able to bring the Vampire Survivors Cross-Save feature to PlayStation 4/5 alongside our next update,” wrote Poncle on X. “Last month, we told everyone that Cross-Save would be available on PlayStation 4/5, PC, Xbox, Android and iOS alongside our next free [Vampire Survivors] update in April” “But at last minute, we’ve run into a legal issue on PlayStation we weren’t aware of that requires us to share info on our partners that we’re unable to. The chances of Cross-Save coming to PlayStation consoles are now very slim.” However, Poncle has said that it’s not completely impossible. Because of this, it is continuing to work with PlayStation to sort these issues out. “We’re so sorry to build up any anticipation for this feature on PlayStation only to change plans at the last minute,” wrote the developer. Despite problems faced in bringing cross-save to PS4 and PS5, other versions of the game – PC, Xbox, Android and iOS – will still be getting the feature in an update over the next few weeks. Even the Nintendo Switch version of Vampire Survivors will get the update in a later update. The Apple Arcade version might get cross-save too. The PS4 and PS5 versions of Vampire Survivors were released back in August 2024. Alongside the base game itself, all of the DLC for the game was also released The last major DLC released for Vampire Survivors was Ode to Castlevania, where Poncle collaborated with Konami to bring in some Castlevania-related characters, enemies and weapons to the game. The cheaper price point is thought to be Nintendo's effort to make up for the severe depreciation of the yen against the US dollar in recent years. The general consensus among Japanese gamers in response to this has been "Thank you Nintendo, please become the ruling party of our country next," but that doesn't mean casual users weren't surprised to see an almost 20k yen increase in price between the first and second console – thus the discourse and random comparisons. Blue Prince releases on April 10, and will immediately be available on Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft announced last week. The PlayStation Blog announced today that it will be available the same day on PlayStation Plus, as well. Between a nomination for “Best Gameplay” at Gamescom 2024 and a more recent deluge of positive reviews, the puzzle game — whose name I just recently realized is a play on “blueprints” — has garnered a ton of attention ahead of release. Blue Prince is the rare game to get a day-one release via both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, no doubt thanks to the strong word of mouth it’s enjoyed for the last year and change. Here’s a little bit of what Jay Castello had to say about the game in their review for Polygon: This gradual accumulation of knowledge is almost the whole of Blue Prince (one early room recommends having a notebook at hand; I filled several pages), although there are some architectural elements of the house that become permanent, making future runs more likely to be fruitful. These moments tend to feel big, some of them even having very atmospheric cutscenes that break up the routine of drafting door after door. You’ll also be collecting passwords and codes that stay the same across runs. Mainly, every new draft is a question of what you will learn about the estate and how you will apply that knowledge in future runs. As for the other PlayStation Plus offerings this month, EA Sports PGA Tour will be available alongside Blue Prince on April 10, while Hogwarts Legacy, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2, Battlefield 1, and PlateUp! will be added to the game catalog on April 15.
