My favorite iOS 18 upgrade for Apple’s Reminders app is tiny
I used to change up task managers often, always looking for a new app that could make keeping up with todos just a little bit better. But for years now I’ve stuck with Apple’s Reminders app, and a tiny new iOS 18 feature has turned out to make a big difference for me. Reordering your Today list in iOS 18 Apple’s Reminders app has become much more powerful than a simple list app. There are new features added all the time, including a variety in iOS 18 last fall. Out of those additions, an especially small new feature has been my favorite—not counting what’s technically a Calendar upgrade. In iOS 18 you can now reorder sections in your Today list, something that was impossible before. When viewing Today, tap the three-dot icon in Reminders’ top-right corner to reveal an ‘Edit Sections’ button. Here, you’ll see that Today includes three main sections: Overdue All-Day Timed Reminders Essentially, your Today list sorts reminders based on their time status. If they’re overdue from a previous day, they’ll show up first. These are followed by all-day reminders, meaning they don’t have a specific time but are due today. Finally, the Timed Reminders section includes everything with a specific time—and it’s sorted into Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. These same main sections existed before iOS 18, but you couldn’t change their order. You always saw overdue tasks at the top, followed by all-day, then timed. Here’s why reordering has been such a valuable upgrade for me. Why Reminders’ default Today setup doesn’t work for me Most of what I put into the Reminders app doesn’t involve hard deadlines. I’ll assign due dates, but in most cases if I don’t complete something on a given day, it’s not a huge deal. As a result, it’s not uncommon for me to let tasks become ‘overdue’ in the app. And before iOS 18, that meant my Today view was always very poorly organized. Why? Because overdue reminders got front-and-center treatment at the top of my list. The problem is, these reminders are almost never the most important tasks on my agenda. If they were, I’d likely have completed them already. Tasks assigned to the current day, and those with specific times, are more important to me 99% of the time. So in iOS 18, I was able to move ‘Overdue’ reminders to the bottom of my Today view. This way, the new tasks for the day don’t get lost under the clutter of overdue reminders. Rather, they get the prominent placement they deserve. And when I’m ready to tackle overdue items, they’re waiting right at the bottom of the list. I completely understand why Apple’s default sorting puts overdue tasks at the top, since for plenty of users I suspect overdue items merit more attention. But for me, customizing the Reminders app to de-prioritize overdue items has been a very welcome upgrade. Have you reordered your Today list in Reminders on iOS 18? Let us know in the comments. Official Cybertruck Account Explodes in Fury
Much like Tesla's owner, the official Cybertruck X account appears to be having a normal one on "the everything app."Responding to "Dirty Tesla," an aggrieved YouTuber who took to Elon Musk's social network to kvetch about his Cybertruck losing half its value in a single year, the person running social media for the janky electric truck — and let's be real, it just might be the company's micromanagement-prone CEO, Elon Musk — seemed to freak right out."One more post like this," the Cybertruck account said, "and you will be getting $0 when I do an Irish exit in the middle of the night."Unlike the similarly-named and arguably offensive drink, an "Irish exit" or "Irish goodbye" is the idiomatic act of ducking out of a party or function without saying goodbye. If you're confused, you're not alone — using "Irish exit" in this context makes absolutely no sense, if only because cars generally don't have parties, at least outside of the movies.Unfortunately, the cringe didn't end there. It seems that whoever runs the Cybertruck account has taken a page out of the Tesla owner's posting manual and has become wont to respond to pretty much anything it wants. When Cybertruck engineer Lars Moravy queried X users about what they think could "make Teslas better" in the coming year on April 4, the swiftly-devaluing truck's account responded, days later, in a manner that seems at first blush more befitting a middle schooler than a social media manager."ASS!" the account bellowed. "I JUST WANT ASS."In that post and others using "ASS" in all caps, the Cybertruck account tagged Tesla AI and autopilot VP Ashok Elluswamy. While it's pretty apparent that the account is referencing Tesla's "Actually Smart Summon" feature, which Cybertrucks don't yet have, the account is obviously enjoying deploying the double entendre acronym for comedic effect. While the ASS posts did, unfortunately, elicit a chuckle on our end, the account's overall cringey-cutesy tone sounds way too much like Musk to be anything but creepy.Amid the mass Cybertruck recall expanding to Canada due to its issues with parts randomly flying off, the car's official account is clearly posting through it — and like with Musk, those dumb, lighthearted posts aren't fooling anyone.More on Cybertruck nonsense: Women Reveal Whether They Find Cybertruck Drivers AttractiveShare This Article

Europol Arrests Five SmokeLoader Clients Linked by Seized Database Evidence
Apr 10, 2025Ravie LakshmananOnline Fraud / Threat Intelligence Law enforcement authorities have announced that they tracked down the customers of the SmokeLoader malware and detained at least five individuals. "In a coordinated series of actions, customers of the Smokeloader pay-per-install botnet, operated by the actor known as 'Superstar,' faced consequences such as arrests, house searches, arrest warrants or 'knock and talks,'" Europol said in a statement. Superstar is alleged to have run a pay-per-install service that enabled its customers to gain unauthorized access to victim machines, using the loader as a conduit to deploy next-stage payloads of their choice. According to the European law enforcement agency, the access afforded by the botnet was used for various purposes such as keylogging, webcam access, ransomware deployment, and cryptocurrency mining. The latest action, part of an ongoing coordinated exercise called Operation Endgame, which led to the dismantling of online infrastructure associated with multiple malware loader operations like IcedID, SystemBC, PikaBot, SmokeLoader, Bumblebee, and TrickBot last year. Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States participated in the follow-up effort that's meant to focus on the "demand side" of the cybercrime ecosystem. Authorities, per Europol, tracked down the customers who were registered in a database that was previously seized, linking their online personas to real-life individuals and calling them for questioning. An unspecified number of suspects are believed to have opted to cooperate and have their personal devices examined to collect digital evidence. "Several suspects resold the services purchased from SmokeLoader at a markup, thus adding an additional layer of interest to the investigation," Europol said. "Some of the suspects had assumed they were no longer on law enforcement's radar, only to come to the harsh realisation that they were still being targeted." Malware Loaders Come in Different Forms The development comes as Broadcom-owned Symantec revealed details of a phishing campaign that employs the Windows screensaver (SCR) file format to distribute a Delphi-based malware loader named ModiLoader (aka DBatLoader and NatsoLoader) on victims' machines. It also coincides with an evasive web campaign that tricks users into running malicious Windows installer (MSI) files to deploy another loader malware referred to as Legion Loader. "This campaign uses a method called 'pastejacking' or 'clipboard hijacking' because viewers are instructed to paste content into a Run window," Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 said, adding it leverages several cloaking strategies to evade detection through CAPTCHA pages and disguising malware download pages as blog sites. Phishing campaigns have also been a delivery vehicle for Koi Loader, which is then used to download and execute an information stealer called Koi Stealer as part of a multi-stage infection sequence. "The utilization of Anti-VM capabilities by malware like Koi Loader and Koi Stealer highlights the capability of modern threats to evade analysis and detection by analysts, researchers, and sandboxes," eSentire said in a report published last month. And that's not all. Recent months have once again witnessed the return of GootLoader (aka SLOWPOUR), which is being spread via sponsored search results on Google, a technique first spotted in early November 2024. The attack targets users searching for "non disclosure agreement template" on Google to serve bogus ads that, when clicked, are redirected to a site ("lawliner[.]com") where they are asked to enter their email addresses to receive the document. "Shortly after they enter their email, they will receive an email from lawyer@skhm[.]org, with a link to their requested Word document (DOCX)," according to a security researcher who goes by the name GootLoader and has closely monitored the malware loader for several years. "If the user passed all of their gates, they will download a zipped JavaScript file. When the user unzips and executes the JavaScript file, the same GootLoader behavior occurs." Also spotted is a JavaScript downloader known as FakeUpdates (aka SocGholish) that's typically propagated via social engineering ploys that deceive users into installing the malware by disguising as a legitimate update for web browsers like Google Chrome. "Attackers distribute malware using compromised resources, injecting malicious JavaScript into vulnerable sites to fingerprint hosts, perform eligibility checks, and display fake update pages," Google said. "The malware is commonly delivered via drive-by downloads. The malicious JavaScript acts as a downloader, delivering additional malware." The fake browser update attack pathway has also been observed distributing two other JavaScript malware families called FAKESMUGGLES, which is so named for the use of HTML smuggling to deliver next-stage payloads such as NetSupport Manager, and FAKETREFF, which communicates with a remote server to retrieve additional payloads like DarkGate and send basic host information. The Academy Finally Adds Oscar for Stunts
There are Academy Awards for nearly every facet of moviemaking, from directing, to writing to visual effects to costumes to production design. (A new Best Casting Oscar will be given for the first time in 2026.) But there has never been an Oscar for stunts, despite calls from many corners of the industry to add one for many years. At last, the men and women of the stunt world will be honored by the Academy, as the organization announced today that they will finally add an Oscar for stunt design. The award will be introduced for the 100th Academy Awards in 2028 — meaning films released in the calendar year of 2027 will be the first eligible to receive the prize.92nd Annual Academy Awards - BackstageA.M.P.A.S. via Getty Imagesloading...READ MORE: The Movies Nominated for the Most Oscars With Zero WinsIn a statement, the leaders of the Academy, CEO Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang, had this to say about the new award:Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking. We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion. The news is extremely welcome and absurdly overdue — and for precisely the reasons laid out in the Academy’s statement. Think of all the amazing filmmakers throughout the history who relied on stunts to bring their art to life, from Buster Keaton to Tom Cruise. Measles Outbreak in U.S. May Undo Formal ‘Elimination’ Status
April 10, 20255 min readMeasles Was ‘Eliminated’ in the U.S. in 2000. The Current Outbreak May Change ThatThe U.S. formally eliminated measles in 2000 thanks to widespread vaccination, but public health experts fear the current growing outbreak of the disease may allow it to reclaim its holdBy Lauren J. Young edited by Dean Visser Bilanol/Getty ImagesMeasles outbreaks are now flaring across multiple U.S. states, and this week Texas public health officials announced that a second child has died of lung failure caused by the highly contagious viral disease. This eight-year-old had no underlying health conditions and had not received vaccination against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)—the primary, most effective tool to prevent infection.Meanwhile cases continue to burst across state lines: new measles reports have spiked in Kansas, Hawaii, Colorado, Indiana and Michigan this week. Separately, increasing measles reports in Ontario have triggered travel alerts in neighboring New York State, while recent cases in Mexico have been traced to outbreaks in the U.S.As efforts to contain these outbreaks sputter and spread of infections stretches into nearly three months, public health experts fear measles—a disease that was virtually eliminated nationally for a quarter-century—may soon officially reclaim a hold on the U.S.On supporting science journalismIf you're enjoying this article, consider supporting our award-winning journalism by subscribing. By purchasing a subscription you are helping to ensure the future of impactful stories about the discoveries and ideas shaping our world today.Peter Marks, a leading vaccine official who recently resigned from his position as director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, recently told NBC News, “I think we’re well on our way” to losing the country’s measles elimination status—a long-standing public health achievement that was largely accomplished through the widespread distribution of MMR vaccines.Measles’ Elimination Status in the U.S.A disease receives “elimination” status when its incidence is reduced to zero in a specific region for a set time frame. The amount of time can vary for different diseases; for measles, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization define this status by a period of 12 months with zero endemic cases. In other words, “there needs to be no continuous transmission chain for 12 months or more, and a transmission chain is when you can link one infectious individual to the next,” explained Amy Winter, a demographer and epidemiologist at the University of Georgia College of Public Health, in a media briefing about measles in March. The U.S. was officially certified for measles elimination in 2000 and has been able to sustain that status through prevention measures—especially the country’s high vaccination coverage. “It’s really legitimately amazing and [applause-worthy] that we’ve been able to eliminate the disease and keep it eliminated in this country,” Winter said.A single dose of the MMR vaccine provides 93 percent effective protection against the disease, and the recommended two doses provide 97 percent protection. Polio is another disease that had been declared eliminated in the U.S., also largely because of the widespread use of polio vaccines.Measles cases can enter a community via a person who has traveled to a place where the disease has not been eliminated, and this can result in short-term outbreaks. The CDC notes that such cases in the U.S. often arise among unvaccinated travelers and that typically two out of three of them are Americans.“All the measles cases in our country are due to international importations, either a U.S. person going to a foreign country, getting infected and bringing it back, or someone from a foreign country visiting us and transmitting,” explains Walter Orenstein, an epidemiologist and a professor emeritus at Emory University. “One of the big concerns I have is not supporting global efforts to enhance immunization, which is a win-win situation: one, for the countries that we help, and two, for our domestic health security.” A dose of measles vaccine is pictured in a health center in Lubbock, Texas, on February 27, 2025. Ronaldo Schemidt/AFP via Getty Images Could We Eradicate Measles? The term “eradication” refers to the worldwide absence of a disease. The only human disease to have reached this status is smallpox.“What we did with smallpox, which I worked on in India during 1974–1975, is: we got rid of transmission in other countries, which meant it couldn’t be transmitted back into our country,” Orenstein says. Because smallpox has been eradicated, vaccination against the disease among the general public is no longer needed anywhere.“Eventually, perhaps we can eradicate measles, but [that] is very difficult, particularly because of its high contagiousness,” Orenstein says. “But certainly we can maintain our elimination status if we can get very high levels of immunization in our communities and sustain those levels.”What’s the Possibility that the U.S. Loses Elimination Status? Given measles’ high contagiousness, Orenstein says, “uniformly”high immunity is extremely important in preventing spread. Even small dips in population immunity (also called “herd immunity”) among small pockets of unvaccinated people can spur outbreaks—and can do so even if the overall state or country’s vaccination rate is relatively high.“With these threats and dropping immunization coverage, we may have enough susceptibles to eliminate our elimination status” for measles, Orenstein says. The U.S. almost lost measles elimination status in 2019, when a New York State outbreak lasted from approximately January to October, said William Moss, executive director at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s International Vaccine Access Center, at a recent media briefing on vaccines’ role in eliminating diseases. “That outbreak in 2019 was largely fueled by a large outbreak of over 900 cases in New York City, in New York State,” Moss explained. “What is striking about this current [2025] outbreak is the speed at which it’s expanding and increasing.”Since the first U.S. cases were reported in the initial measles outbreak in Texas in January, the CDC’s total number of measles cases this year has reached 607, though experts say the real count is likely higher. More than 70 percent of cases have been in people under age 19, and the majority of hospitalizations—21 percent—are in children under age five. The year’s total cases to date are the highest they’ve been since the 2019 outbreak. “It’s hard to say right now whether this outbreak is going to continue for 12 months,” Moss said at the recent briefing. “I hope that is not the case, that we can get a handle on this outbreak through increasing vaccination coverage. But it does remain a threat, and we potentially could lose our measles and elimination status if this continues the way it has.”And frontline health officials now suggest this could happen amid the current U.S. outbreaks. According to the New York Times, Katherine Wells, public health director of the city of Lubbock, Tex., said in a March news briefing that she anticipated the outbreak “is going to be a year long.”“Elimination is protection, not just for our vaccinees but for people who can’t be vaccinated or don’t make a good immune response to their vaccine,” Orenstein says. “And to me, natural measles is not healthy for you—and that seems to be a message people are not understanding. There’s no reason that someone has to suffer measles.”Additional reporting by Meghan Bartels.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's latest update finally lets you lob spare repair kits at enemies
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's latest update finally lets you lob spare repair kits at enemies Plus new Adventure Books and more. Image credit: MachineGames News by Matt Wales News Reporter Published on April 10, 2025 I suspect I might be in a minority here, but I can confidently say I didn't use a single repair kit as I bumbled and faffed my way through MachineGames' excellent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle late last year - mainly because I was so enamoured by the game's ludicrous clobbering loop I couldn't take two steps forward without hoovering up another handful of melee-focused bric-a-brac. So I very much appreciate that Indy's latest update finally gives my never-diminishing stash of repair kits a purpose by letting me lob them at foes. Besides that, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's Update 4 comes with a heap of tweaks and changes designed to further enhance its already excellent action, starting with two new Adventure Books that'll provide Indy with some additional whip-focused benefits. Open Season, for instance, creates a temporary window after whipping enemies in which they'll take increased damage from subsequent attacks. And with Sleight of Hand, Indy can pull an enemy's weapon towards him after disarming them with the whip. That brings us to Update 4's dozen or so quality of life improvements. These include new one-liners for Indy during fights, meaning you'll get a bit of extra vocal variety while punching Nazis and other miscreants. And Machine Games says Ray-traced Global Illumination has also been improved across all platforms "at no performance cost". To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Here's what we had to say in our Indiana Jones and the Great Circle review.Watch on YouTube Elsewhere, there's now a timer around Indy's health showing how long you'll need to wait until enemies call off a search, and a number of UI elements and effects - specifically the HUD's centre dot and "stealth" vignette while crouching - can now be toggled on or off. Additionally, the journal has seen some improvements while in its somewhat fiddly "lowered" state; you can see more of it, for starters, and it's now possible to switch between local and level maps. Moving on, there's a new "Always Allow Skipping Cutscenes" option if you have absolutely no patience for cinematic chatter; there are a couple off new tutorials; the menu for purchasing Adventure Books and map information booklets has been improved; the PC version now supports the PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller for advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and PlayStation or Steam Deck controllers will now show up in the controller configuration menu on PC. And for more on Update 4's lengthy list of bug fixes, you'll be wanting to check out MachineGames' patch notes. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle's fourth major update is now live on PC and Xbox, and it seems reasonable to expect all its additions and improvements will feature in the PlayStation 5 release when it launches next Thursday, 17th April. And it is, of course, well worth picking up. "Smart, fun and so very Indiana Jones," we wrote in our five star review, "The Great Circle is a stealth action tour de force that marks a bold new era for MachineGames" - and that was before we went on to name it Eurogamer's game of the year in 2024.

DOGE cuts watchdogs investigating self-driving Teslas: Report

Read original Speed: 0.5xSpeed: 1xSpeed: 1.5xSpeed: 2x 🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur. Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reportedly cut 30 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) workers in February, disproportionately affecting regulators tasked with assessing self-driving vehicle risks, according to a Financial Times report. The move could be viewed as a potential conflict of interest and has sparked criticism from Democrats due to Musk serving as the CEO of Tesla.Newsweek reached out to the White House and the NHTSA for comment by email on Thursday afternoon. Why It MattersNHTSA is a federal agency responsible for ensuring motor vehicle safety, setting fuel standards and enforcing regulations related to the nation's transportation system.U.S. regulators at the agency in January opened an investigation into millions of Tesla vehicles following further reports of crashes involving the car's remote and self-guided features. This probe followed several other investigations, including one opened in October 2024 about Tesla's "Full Self-Driving" system, a 2022 investigation more than a dozen crashes reportedly cause by Tesla's "autopilot" feature and others. Elon Musk, second from left, speaks at a Cabinet meeting at the White House on April 10, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Brendan Smialowski/AFP via Getty Images What To KnowThe Financial Times on Thursday cited people familiar with the situation that said of the roughly 30 NHTSA workers let go in February as part of aggressive DOGE cuts, many were part of the "office of vehicle automation safety."One former NHTSA figure who was not among the layoffs told the Times that this presented a "clear conflict of interest" by "allowing someone with a business interest influence...appointments and policy at the agency regulating them."This criticism has followed accusations that Musk may have personally benefited from DOGE cuts at other agencies, such as cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that possibly helped his SpaceX company amid red-tape and regulation issues.NHTSA regulators last month issued a total recall on Tesla Cybertrucks, citing an issue with exterior panels that run along the left and right side of the windshield that could detach while driving and create a dangerous road hazard, The Associated Press reported. The recall affected 46,096 Cybertrucks, including all 2024 and 2025 model years, manufactured over the past two years. That followed a wider recall of some 240,000 vehicles in January after the NHTSA opened a probe over rearview cameras having trouble with image displays. What People Are SayingFormer Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who served in the Clinton administration, in February wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is the latest federal agency to be hit with DOGE layoffs. That's the same agency that has investigated crashes involving Tesla's self-driving cars. This was never about "efficiency."Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, a Democrat, in February wrote on X: "Your morning reminder this is all a corrupt grift. Musk is firing 50% of the office that regulates the self driving cars he makes and sells. Those that remain will serve at the pleasure of the guy they are supposed to be regulating. F1 25 hands-on preview, part one: MyTeam 2.0 goes full team boss by “retiring” the owner driver
Total Wolff F1 25 hands-on preview, part one: MyTeam 2.0 goes full team boss by “retiring” the owner driver The days of “Fine, I’ll drag this shed with wheels I’ve built onto the podium” aren’t over, but you'll need to possess one of your drivers to do it. Image credit: EA/Codemasters Article by Mark Warren Senior Staff Writer Published on April 10, 2025 The MyTeam mode of the last few F1 games has been arguably the bit that’s most easy to skip or just forget exists. You’d certainly not have missed much new stuff by doing so. Codemasters is aiming to change that with F1 25, though, by introducing the first significant revamp the mode’s gotten since it debuted back in F1 2020. While it doesn’t feel as massively granular and in-depth as you’d get with a game that’s fully dedicated to being a racing management sim – I’m thinking the very ‘does what it says on the tin’ Motorsport Manager or even something like Golden Lap – from what I’ve played so far, it does at least seem to offer a slight upgrade on the old MyTeam. The biggest change is the ditching of the usual role that you, the player, take in the running of your team – which you’ve probably named something like Chicane Racing because you got to that screen, panicked, and couldn’t think of anything more interesting that wasn’t Team Dragon Force 9 Go. Gone is the owner driver, with Codemasters having made the call to “retire the concept”, because it’s not really relevant to how behemoth F1 teams operate nowadays. It makes sense, the likes of Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren have long given way to CEO-style team bosses reporting to monstrous corporate boards, and even the independent teams like the one founded by the late Eddie Jordan are all but extinct in anything close to their original forms thanks to takeovers. It takes billions to go racing at the F1 level, and the few individuals that have that kind of wealth to their own name are far too busy destroying the world to be showing up on a Sunday and trying not to soil their fireproof undergarments as they take 130R flat. Then again, it’s not like all of that wasn’t just as true back in 2020 when the mode debuted. So, this year you’re a team boss, with two drivers to sign, manage, and probably occasionally shout at when they crash into each other. Though, that last bit might be a bit over-complicated by the fact that every weekend will see you pick one of them to run the race as from behind the wheel. Part of the impetus the studio cites for axing the owner driver is that by having one of the drivers just be you, there was little incentive to not just prioritise yourself with every decision or upgrade, so by giving you two other people to oversee, the choices you’ve got to make should have more weight. No racing suit for your custom character this time, just a regular business suit. | Image credit: EA/Codemasters You can still go the Red Bull route of being a one-driver team, if you fancy. How you recruit drivers has also been revamped, with drivers now percieving your team in different ways depending on how you’ere doing in certain areas, and a new negotiation system adding a bit more meat to the signature-chasing bone by making you build up a relationship with a driver and their people before you can make a formal contract offer. Elements that’ll influence how these extremely talented (but also usually vertically-challenged) wheelpeople see your team include the two mechanics which have been pulled over or adapted from last year’s driver career changes: accolades and fan sentiment. Both are measures of how you team’s getting along, with the former being weighted to reflecting a team’s historical status within the sport, and the latter being a measure of how you’ve viewed by fans right now. Roped into the accolades is another ported-over feature, in the form of the rivalry system. In my 45 minutes with MyTeam 2.0 so far, I’ve not had a chance yet to see how all of those bits play out or shape a playthrough in the long-term. My initial view is a split one; all of those features worked just fine in F1 24’s driver career, so they should do the same here, but it might have been nice to see them given more unique twists to help differentiate a bit more between two separate modes that now feel like they’re blending together, mechanically. Outside of new ‘events’ that pop up and force you to make a choice in ana area of your team (such as which driver to give simulator priority to before a certain race), a lot of the day-to-day flow of MyTeam 2.0 will feel familiar to folks who’ve played previous iterations. You’re setting upgrade research in motion using research points, and pressing the buttom to fast forward time until the next big event or race weekend happens. Who are you gonna give that swanky new wing to first? | Image credit: EA There is a new wrinkle added by the research and development of parts now being separate processes, giving you some extra choice as to whether you develop one instance of the upgrade for one car first (saving some time), or try to keep things equal between the drivers by developing it for both cars at once. You’ll now find out if your upgrade development has failed and will have to be done again, as happened to me a couple of times during my hands-on. Playing into that is the mode’s second most noticeable revamp – the facility that your team operates out of. Designed to better convey the sheer industrial size of F1 teams nowadays, you’ll see a few different bits of the facility bustling away as you jump between the main menu screens dedicated to the various elements of your team – engineering, corporate, and personnel. All of these areas can be upgraded in order to grow your team and increase its capabilities in terms of the stuff you’d expect – making the car go faster and attracting more sponsors to stick on it. There’s also now a sponsor loyalty mechanic designed to give you little boosts as rewards for sticking with one main corporate entry on the sidepod across multiple seasons, than just chasing the most dosh. Will all of that be enough to vault MyTeam up from near the bottom of the F1 game mode importance pile to somewhere near the top? There’s certainly a chance from what I’ve played so far, but we’ll have to see. F1 25 is set to be released on May 30 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
