A second round of console testing for the Oblivion Remaster reveals the extent of the game's performance issues. Hitches, sub-60fps drops, crashes and uneven frame-pacing on its 30fps quality mode blight every platform, including PS5 Pro tested today. Also curious is the manner in which continuous play time affects performance on all console platforms.

Instead of console specific bonuses, you get console specific bugs.

So, massive memory leak right now? Only 15 minutes of gameplay time for the frame rate to start dropping significantly in the open world and requiring a fresh boot to correct.

"Broken mess" is all that comes to my mind here. Game is simply in an inexcusable state.

What a disaster. If the problems are related to Gamebryo, good luck ever getting this sorted out.

I shelved the game to focus on others until this gets patched. It will get patched...right?

So, it's Oblivion! People should have seen how it ran on a typical gaming PC at the time.

I still remember how people showed videos of the PS3 version of Skyrim going all the way down to literally 0 fps.

Game is a mess on PC too. A shame, but totally expected. Doubt it'll ever see big improvements either.

Eagerly awaiting a patch on the ps5 but I've still had a blast with playing it. Surprised to see so many issue but also totally not surprised, given the number of glitches I have encountered.
Honestly the quality mode is unplayable for me the DF video shows me why, but on performance I've been really forgiving with it's performance. Having only really put this amount of time on the ps3 which also had its share of issues, I had the Xbox One physical rerelease but never got back into it.
The gameplay loop is fun and keeps me coming back, I absolutely hope they patch it soon though.

This game is already up there in the "Butter smooth on MY *platform here*!" Hall of Fame.
Just like Jedi Survivor, I see claims of flawless performance on PC, as well as claims of "perfectly locked 60" on PS5 Pro despite that just being demonstrably false.

It truly is remastered. Even down to the infamous Bethesda performance. Not surprised at all, and was not moved to get the shadow drop without reviews lol

I beat the Dark Brotherhood questline then immediately shelved it whilst waiting on PS5 updates.
I will be back and make a new character most likely.

Horse riding on the PS5 makes me want to throw up. I basically run everywhere with fortified super speed and high jump

The discovery of a memory leak (I think that's what they say, at the start) explains the popularity of snake oil mods on Nexus. People have a shit time with the game, shut it off, apply some essential oils to their ini file and hey presto it's way better (for another 45 minutes, at which point they'll shut down anyway lol)

The game is basically unplayable to me on PS5 Pro. The PC version is also pretty bad but my rig powers through some of it. On pro the fps tanks when I swing the camera around.

And somehow, SOMEHOW, even in this game, there are people saying it runs "fine" for them. Just amazing.

A lot of those people will leave a positive comment after the first 10 minutes and not update it when the problem reappears.

I'll try and act shocked that a Bethesda game has tons of problems.
This is why games are releasing more broken than ever. Because people buy this and says it's ok.

PS3 version survivor here.
I will always remember this one dungeon where the Daedra where at the damn FPS would drop to like 1-2 frames all the way through it. Wild times.

i literally couldnt play all the DLC on PS3, because the more you played the worse it ran (my save file grew in size like 6-10 fold because i did everything). the game was a fundamentally broken pile of shitty ass code. and i never got my money back (asked several times).
no joke, my game was in a state where it took so long for one VATS sequence to finish that i could make myself dinner.. like a few frames per minute or something. i laughed/cried many times trying to finish quests.. had to give up without even touching Point Lookout. maybe i'll finally get to experience it if they release that UE5 remaster.. would appreciate it Bethesda/Sony could gift it to me, though.
and yeah FFS at least get the performance mode on Pro to run decently.. its ridiculously choppy in the open world, almost unplayable at times. surely it could run better on the most powerful and expensive console?!

I love how the performance goes down by a third after just after 15-20 mins of gameplay. A true homage to PS3 Skyrim.

Disagree completely with Tom on SSR. The reflections sliding off the screen constantly are way more distracting to me than the reflection pop in.

I turned off SSR the moment I got out into the open world and saw how horrible it was. I find lumen reflection pop-in less distracting than SSR artifacts.

I hope they get this patched up to a good state. I was looking forward to checking it out after I finished Expedition 33 and Doom. But, I ain't touching this mess. Assuming PC is still a mess as well, that is?

And they didn't seem to address the night lighting bug. This would be the deal breaker for me.

Gotta say, the combination of typical Bethesda jank with the unbearable brand of UE5 shittiness is a match made in hell.
Anyway, people should be boycotting this on principle, but I guess that's too much to ask for. Enjoy the slop.

As someone who owns both the PS5 version and the PC version I can tell you that my PC version runs way better, but I have a 9800X3D and the issues seem to be CPU driven. That being said, even with a monster CPU, this thing is a stutter fest. I have personally decided to wait to play it until they fix it.

Some of the little things can seem silly to complain about but when it's a huge pile of small things they add up to a bad experience.
Like when I'm walking near water holding my bow, the bow's "reflection" appears in the body of water despite me being hundreds of yards away from it. It's like it doesn't even know how to determine what should be reflected and what shouldn't.
The crashing really did it for me though, as well as it causing my Portal to disconnect literally every 5 minutes, while other games are just fine. I was going back and forth between this and Days Gone R and always had this anxiety in the back of my mind because I was expecting a disconnect but was relieved it wasn't happening with DGR. (At least not nearly as often)
